Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars RCA RP4801.......2007-04-22

Absolutely worst cd radio alarm clock ever. Very difficult to program. Requires a PhD from CAL to understand. Sound is tinny from radio. This was a gift that I could not give back. Gave it to my mother in law...

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY unless you like STRESS.......2006-09-04

This alarm LOOKED liked it had everything -- two alarms, would get gradually louder, plays CDs, etc.

It had a NAP feature, which I wouldn't use, but that button was on the other side of the controls so I figured there was no danger that I'd accidentally hit it.

WAS I WRONG!

Supposedly the NAP button is the only button that turns on or off the NAP feature (like a snooze - except it'll wake you in 10 minutes or 2 hours, whatever you set.) Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the Alarm SET button also turned on the NAP feature.

Imagine my growing frustration and ANGER when I can't turn the *@$#ing NAP off!!! It's late at night, I wanted to set my alarm to be 1/2 hour later for the next morning, and I'm stuck pushing the NAP button over and over again for 5-10 minutes to get it to turn off OR I can have my alarm go off in 10 minutes to wake me when I've just started to fall asleep.

The NAP feature turns on about 20% of the times that I try to set the alarms. After 3 months of this, I'm trashing this and going out to spend another money on a different alarm. Yes, the alarm has many nice features, but that is outweighted by the repeatedly stressful nights of fighting with the NAP feature.

Save your money and your sanity!!!

1 out of 5 stars A real disappointment.......2006-07-10

We bought this item at Walmart as a Christmas gift for our daughter and while it worked for a while (about 3 months or so), the CD player stopped working. We sent it to the address listed in the manual and it took about 3 months to get another one. And, lo and behold, the replacement unit doesn't work at all!

Pass on this and get something of higher quality.

3 out of 5 stars Too bright, and a little buggy.......2006-06-06

The other reviewers here nailed the problems exactly. Overall, this is an acceptable alarm clock (I bought it just to wake up to CDs, and it does that well enough), but I wouldn't buy it again:

1. The display is too bright at night. If I sleep facing my nightstand, I have to turn the clock away.

2. The nap timer randomly turns itself on about half the times I go through the alarm setting modes. This is especially annoying because the only way to turn it off is to hold down the NAP button for several seconds. Also, the nap timer can only be set to 2 hours at the longest, which is a little short for my tastes.

3. There aren't many alarm options. My last clock had separate buzzer and radio alarms which could each be set to Mon-Fri, Sat-Sun, or daily. On this one, I can change each alarm from buzzer to radio to CD, but I can't make separate weekend and weekday alarms - the clock doesn't even know what day it is.

4. Advertised features are missing. The weekend cancel function, auto brightness control, and time zone selection simply don't exist.

On the plus side, it plays not just CD-Rs, but also CD-RWs! If you like to change your alarm music a lot, you can reuse the same CD-RW disc over and over.

4 out of 5 stars not impressed.......2006-04-07

I have had this player for a couple of months and I do have trouble playing cd-r's...it stutters and this is verrrrry irritating. I will be looking for another to replace it. It plays pre-recorded cd's beautifully.
