Timex T600W CD Stereo Clock Radio with Nature Sounds (White)

Amazon.com Review
Small yet robust, the Timex T600W is no ordinary clock radio. With a CD player, an 18-preset digital tuner, stereo speakers, four "nature" sound samples, and three separate alarms, the T600W may cost more than the average clock radio, but it still represents a solid value.

Short and stout with rounded sides and a contrasting silver-and-black body, the T600W looks a little intimidating. It has far more buttons than most clock radios, which we suspect may puzzle first-time users. Fortunately, many of these controls are used for setup, while the most frequently used buttons are set apart and logically situated.

The Indiglo (blue) display shows time, date, radio frequency, CD track, and indicates which nature sound (ocean, brook, forest, or wind) is currently selected for the alarm. Setting the six AM and 12 FM presets is very straightforward, and when powered up the T600W's last-station memory automatically returns to the station selected before the radio was switched off.

The sound of the T600W is quite good, but the close proximity of the two speakers yields little stereo separation. And though it does deliver a full, clean sound, don't mistake this clock radio for a mini-stereo system. Turn it up too loud, and the cabinet will start to buzz in protest. If you want to listen at higher levels, we'd suggest using the mini-headphone jack or investing in a more music-oriented clock radio or shelf stereo.

All in all, the Timex T600W is a good value: it's small, sounds good, and is chock full of features. --Wayne Garcia

2 out of 5 stars Wish I hadn't bought it.......2005-05-31

There are WAY too many buttons, and it's way too easy to screw the thing up accidentally and oversleep because you shut off the alarm without realizing it. Plus, the time display is so big and so bright that I had to get used to it when I first bought it because the light made it difficult to fall asleep. I wish I hadn't bought it.

1 out of 5 stars can;t see the time.......2005-02-09

There isno way you should buy this as you can not see the time at night.

2 out of 5 stars Internals are too loud.......2004-11-24

Does what it says but the actual running noise "hum" is too loud, so loud in fact it will actually compete with soft CDs. I like a bit of Enya to wake me and I heard more of the unit than her mmmmming. Quite the duet.
The ocean waves and similar sounds are good however so it's nice for that.

2 out of 5 stars too many flaws.......2004-05-23

I have owned this alarm clock for a couple of years now, and I regret to say, I am at long last in the market for something better. From day one, the clock would gain time, a couple of minutes per month. The cd player (which whined noisily when it started up) also stopped working long ago, and unfortunately, the cd player was the main selling point for me when I purchased this clock. The radio reception leaves a lot to be desired, depending on where I stand in the bedroom. My final complaint is that some (not all) of the functions are way too complicated to program without the manual, which disappeared a long time ago.

Why 2 stars then? The one reason I have kept the clock far beyond its prime is that I love the nature sounds feature. I find now that I have difficulty falling asleep without the serene forest breeze whispering in my ears - I am a "soothing nature sounds" junkee. On another positive note, the alarm has been very dependable, aside from user error.

1 out of 5 stars Undependable and too hard touse.......2004-01-17

After putting up with this Timex radio for way too many months, I'm back searching for a better quality, more user-friendly clock radio. It looks great, but the quality isn't there. Poor reception. Volume control is particularly bad -- hard to find a mid-level sound output. It jumps from too low to too loud, which can be incredibly annoying when you need a dependable alarm. Sometimes the sound was too low to wake me up; other times, the sound would blare out and wake up the whole household.

Worst problem is difficulty in setting the station pre-sets. After reading the insructions several times, the radio just proved unresponsive to my station settings. I'm extremely disappointed and would not recommend this radio to anyone.
