Kaito T1 - Radio antenna
Kaito T1 - Radio antenna
Product Description
Product Description:
This antenna will improve the reception on the shortwave bands for any portable shortwave radio. The antenna works with radios that have an external mini jack. This works really well for the pocket shortwave radios and it increases the reception stability very much. This antenna is extremely compact and weighs very little so it's great for travel especially in a hotel room. Just plug it into the radio, extend the 23 foot wire from the reel and clip it to a high curtain or similar near a window for much better reception that than the standard telescopic whip antenna.

Product Description
The newly released Kaito KA1103 is an improved and more advanced version of widely praised KA1102. This digital PLL dual conversion world band receiver will keep you connected to a very comprehensive frequency range including FM, AM, short wave and long wave stations with both a digital readout and a simulation of the old-fashioned analog dial. The KA 1103 has a very effective wide-narrow filter. It does a really good job of whacking back adjacent channel interference. Listeners will be impressed with both selectivity and sensitivity. With single side band (SSB) reception, the radio will transmit with a minimal amount of interference. There are four options when tuning your radio stations. With direct tuning, you input the desired frequency digits. Manual tuning allows you to change the frequency using the tuning knob. If you are unsure of what station you want, use the scan tuning option to have the radio stop at all hearable receptions. Finally, with preset tuning, you can recall a preset station with a single button press. You can store up to 256 preset stations using memory tuning feature, and there is a ten-key direct access tuning function, offering you quickly access to your top ten favorite stations. If you plan on traveling with a radio, the KA1103 is a very good choice. You can either listen to the KA1103 via the built-in 3" speaker or with the included earphones. Beyond the ability to tune into various radio bands, the KA1103 also features a built-in automatic battery charger, plugs it into any wall outlet with the included AC adpator when the battery indicator shows that battery is low. Frequency Coverage: FM:76.0-108.0MHz;MW:520-1710 MHz; SW:1.71-29.99 MHz;LW 100 - 519 kHz. Package includes Stereo earphones, 120 V/AC adaptor, external antenna, carrying pouch, 3 pcs of AA rechargeable batterties and a copy of user manual.
Customer Reviews:
Great for pulling in world radio stations, poor ergonomic controls.......2007-06-10
The small/portable KA1103 pulls in radio signals from across the globe. With help of an draped wire antenna, I had no problem picking up RAI out of Rome, Italy at sunset, Radio Australia at sunrise, and countless other international stations. With SSB, I hear ham radio conversations out of Alabama and New York sitting comfortably in the Midwest.
Based on my limited research, the KA 1103 costs *half the price* of competitive products with similar features. For under $100, this unit sports a *digital tuner* that doesn't drift. You can punch in desired frequencies fresh off a world radio station source, such as "Passport to World Radio" books, and store favorites as *presets*.
I'm not confident the price savings is worth the trade-offs in functional use. The "dial" serves multiple purposes. To browse the airwaves, just spin the dial. Press the M/F button and the dial now browses the presets. Press the VOL button and the dial now changes the volume of the radio. Two seconds after you stop adjusting the volume, the dial reverts to frequency adjustments. Changing the volume should not be a multi-step process that I must explain to my wife and kids when they want the sound down during commercials. "Hey Honey, press the button on the top that says VOL / CHG, then quickly spin the dial on the side. If you miss it, you need to press the VOL / CHG button again." Sure you can directly enter the volume setting, but that's a multiple button process, too.
The top quarter of screen displays the signal strength (nothing for FM), the current frequency, and the volume or preset number. The remaining three-fourth of display sports a matrix of frequency bands. I never look at the matrix to see what station I am on. Sure would have been nice if the unit constantly displayed the time as a way of tracking those world radio shows that start at odd times, such as 0:55.
The radio ships with four AA-rechargeable batteries and a built-in charger. I have better AA-rechargeable batteries from use with digital cameras. I won't use the built-in charger because it works off a timer only, rather than providing more the controlled/gentle charging of a good MAHA charger. This was not a plus for me.
The Eton E5/Gundig G5 appears to provide equivalent features without the counter-intuitive control problems. After a month of use, I'd pay the price difference to be free of these issues.
A super shortwave radio! Best performance for the money!.......2007-05-28
I've been a shortwave radio listener for the past 40 years. Since 1985 I've been using a Realistic DX-400 for the majority of my listening. I wanted something smaller that was easier to carry around and after considerable research I purchased the Kaito KA1103.
This radio outperforms my DX-400. It is especially outstanding on the FM and shortwave bands. Regular AM broadcast reception is okay but nothing exceptional. The Kaito KA1103 also receives SSB broadcasts which is a feature not found on many shortwave radios priced under $100. I've found the SSB reception to also be exceptionally good and stable. In addition to radio amateurs, I've been able to tune into several commercial aircraft conversations using the SSB feature.
Kaito packs this radio with all the accessories you need. You get rechargable batteries, antenna, power adapter, manual, and even a nice carrying pouch for the unit. I also bought the Katio T-1 antenna with my unit but I've found the supplied antenna to be more than adequate for all my listening requirements.
I hesitated before ordering this radio as some reviews knock this product as being "ergonomically hostile". However, I've found the radio to be very easy to use though it does take some getting used to. You definitely will need to keep the manual nearby for the first few weeks of use. But once you get used to how this radio operates, you'll continue to be amazed at its superb performance.
Battery life is exceptionally good. I can charge the batteries (within the radio) in about 12 hours and that charge will last me 2 to 3 weeks of use assuming I run the radio for about 3 hours per day.
Build quality is solid. This is my first Kaito product and I'm very well pleased with the overall fit and finish of my unit.
A great buy!
Best beginner shortwave radio on the market.......2007-05-24
Very good reception, the old-fashioned dial looks neat. A bought this radio to enter the world of amateur radio, and it has been fun the whole way. My only quam is the that fact that there is no dedicated volume knob, but if you buy a pair of headphones with separate volume controls, this is easily remedied. Any beginner shortwaver/DXer with a budget of around $100 should look at this radio.
Exasperating, and short-lived.......2007-04-25
I've owned a Kaito KA1103 for over a year. It has been one of the most exasperating purchases I've ever made. To begin with, its AC adapter failed after about a week. To Kaito's credit, they replaced it; but to their discredit, the replacement adapter was Dead On Arrival and has never worked. So I started operating the KA1103 on batteries. Unfortunately, in the KA1103 a set of four AA cells lasts only 3 to 4 weeks, even when used no more than 1 or 2 hours a day, at most. And, aside from the rapid battery consumption, the KA1103's controls are confusing and inconvenient. Finally, about a month ago, just over a year since I bought the radio, it completely quit working. I've just replaced it with a Sangean ATS 606A, which I hope will do better
great radio but............2007-04-12
what i like
this radio picks distant mw statins . fm reception is great. sw reception is good.you can wake up by a predetermined statin with a predetermined volume.selctivity is very good sound is not bad.
what i dont like .
after 3 days of use the telescopic antenna detached from the radio . battery life is short. the adaptor makes noise with the weak am stations. the charger is better to be automatic like that of ka11. the volume control is annoying. time does not appear in the display while the radio is on . you must press a button first. it will be great if RDS exist

Digital Tuning Meets Expectations.......2005-06-09
This is a tiny digital radio, including presets, at the 50-dollar price point. The size of a small bar of soap, the KA105 delivers crisp sound; it locks on stations; its AM reception is equal to its big brothers the Kaito 1101, 1102, and 1103.
But don't get this radio for shortwave. And don't get this radio for music. The speaker is too small to separate musical instrumentation. Talk radio is fine and that's what I'd limit this radio to. For a little more, you might be happier with the Kaito 1101. The latter sits with good stability on its stand whereas the 105 sits on a wobbly plastic slat that has a tendency to fall off.
I've had mine in the bathroom for over a year now and it pulls in the distant NPR Pasadena 89.3 with ease. For its limited use, it's quite effective. But I wouldn't buy it as an "everyday" radio.
If you need a little travel radio and you listen to talk, the KA 105 will be fine. But if you want musical fidelity, I suggest you upgrade to a Tivoli Audio Songbook, also a digital radio, for 160 dollars. If you want fidelity and don't mind analog tuning (with digital readout), you might look at the 99-dollar Grundig S350.
