Denon AVR-685S 6.1 Channel Surround Sound Home Theater Receiver
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Denon's AVR-685S provides 6 channels of high-quality, remarkably affordable amplification to drive all the primary speakers in a 6.1 surround sound system (front left/right speakers, rear left/right surrounds, and front/rear center speakers, along with a preamp output for the ".1" low-frequency effects channel, i.e. subwoofer). It's perfectly compatible with 5.1 speaker configurations--just leave of the rear center speaker. The receiver packs 75 watts per channel into 8 ohms from 20 to 20,000 Hz, or 110 wpc into 6 ohms at 1 kHz.
You'll never be at a loss for creative surround algorithms, irrespective of your listening source. The receiver's onboard 6.1-channel surround processing includes Dolby Digital Surround EX, DTS, DTS 96/24 5.1 for DVD-Video, DTS ES Discrete 6/1, ES Matrix 6.1 and Neo: 6 Cinema and Music modes, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx (for cinema, music, and games). Dolby Pro Logic IIx processing is the first technology to offer a choice of processing traditional stereo music and movie content into room-filling 5.1 or 6.1 channels.
The AVR-685S owes its superlative sound quality to premium digital-audio technologies like SHARC 32-bit floating-point DSP from Analog Devices. For simplicity of video connectivity and switching, the AVR-685S includes video up-conversion for composite and/or S-video sources to high-bandwidth component-video with no compromise in video quality.
The receiver performs 24-bit, 96 kHz analog-to-digital conversion on all stereo analog inputs except the multichannel analog jacks, while Analog Devices 24 bit/192 kHz high-resolution DACs on all 7 channels ensures premium playback sound. Adjustable high- and low-pass crossovers (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, and 250 Hz) let you tailor the sound to suit your speakers and your listening space.
The AVR-685S features 3 assignable sets of component-video inputs and 1 set of monitor inputs (all with 100 MHz bandwidth). You get 4 sets composite and 3 S-video inputs, a set of 5.1 external wide-bandwidth (100 kHz) inputs for multichannel formats such as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, 3 assignable digital inputs (2 optical, 1 coaxial), and a total of 7 analog inputs (not including the unit's built-in AM/FM tuner).
The receiver uses a digitally regulated volume control with .5 dB increment adjustments and a step range of -80 to +15. Product Comparability

Product Description:
High-Quality Surround Sound Reproduction NEW High Resolution 32bit Floating Point DSP 24 bit, 192 kHz High Resolution D/A Conversion Capability High-grade Up Conversion This video transcoding (up-conversion) allows you to enjoy high picture quality from all video sources connected to the AVR-685. Since composite and S-video signals are up-converted into component video signals and output to the monitor, all you need to do is connect a monitor that has component video input jacks. 3 Sets of Component Video Inputs The AVR-685 is equipped with 3 sets of component video inputs and 1set of monitor outputs (all RCA terminals) Fully Discrete, Equal Power 6 Amplifier Channels, 110 Watts Each Front 110 W + 110 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD) Center 110 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD) Surround 110 W + 110 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD) Surround Back 110 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD) For optimum Dolby Digital and DTS reproduction, the AVR-685 features high quality, wideband audio amplification, providing 110 watts power output for each of the 6 main channels. A large capacity power supply includes a high current power transformer along with discrete power output devices on all 6 amplifier channels for highest dynamic range and superb reproduction clarity. DENON's Basic Design for High-Quality Sound Reproduction Power Transformer for High Power Driven The chassis that supports the large transformer has been designed to absorb vibration, and the transformer is housed inside a highly rigid frame to secure it more solidly to the chassis. In addition, a cushioning material has been placed around the core of the transformer to minimize interference on the signal and enable more faithful reproduction of the original sound. The AVR-685 inherits these low-noise design from higher-end models not to mention the use of sort ring. Twin Drive Rectifier
