Amazon.com Product Description
Surround sound speakers don't amount to much without a quality receiver, and this JVC 7.1-channel model plays the role perfectly. Equipped with a full complement of surround decoders--including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6, DTS 96/24, Dolby Pro Logic II, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx--the receiver breathes life into home theater audio, delivering spectacularly crisp, explosive sound for both movies and music. The decoded formats are complemented by JVC's digital acoustics processor, which creates dynamic audio soundstages that mimic the acoustics of the most popular live venues. Among the multichannel DAP selections are Theater 1 and Theater 2, Hall 1 and Hall 2, Dance Club, Live Club, and Pavilion.

Internally, the receiver is equipped with a hybrid feedback digital amplifier and a DSP digital equalizer. The amp runs at 700 watts of total power (100 watts x 7 in surround mode, 100 watts x 2 in stereo mode), which should satisfy all but the largest environments. To create an even wider sound field, the receiver offers a virtual surround back function that simulates the effect of a back surround speaker even if you don't own one.

Busy listeners will also appreciate the RX-D202B's AV Compu Link function, which facilitates simple one-touch coordination between your JVC audio and video components. Simply pop a DVD into your JVC DVD player and it automatically activates the receiver and TV while switching them to the proper modes. And people who live in large households will delight in the 3D Headphones feature, which creates an out-of-the-box surround effect through any pair of ordinary stereo headphones (not included). The receiver even lets you stream audio directly from your computer through its USB-PC link.

Components attach to the unit through its comprehensive series of inputs and outputs, including its two digital audio inputs (one optical and one coaxial), four analog audio inputs, and two audio outputs. The RX-D202B also acts as an audio/video switcher, with two component video inputs and one output, three S-video inputs and three outputs, and three composite inputs and three outputs.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Junk.......2006-08-01

When I received this amp all the video and audio inputs except the s-video and optical audio didn't work. It is still in the repair shop, I took it in two days after I got it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Receiver- Great Price!!.......2006-06-23

I bought this receiver in May when the right channel on my 1977 Luxman R-1050 went out, the left channel still works good and i saved it for future use with only 2 speakers, but you can't have surround sound with only 2 speakers. My JVC was perfect out of the box, and still is. It has not presented to me one problem at all. It has impressive surround sound, I have always counted on JVC. I have it hooked up to a Samsung Tv, a n Audiovox DVD player, Emerson 5 speaker sp200 system, a Sony Xplod 1200w subwoofer, and a Volfenhag amplifier for the sub. I only wish they had provided a better FM antenna.

4 out of 5 stars A low cost unit, but has its share of bugs.......2006-04-11

I bought the system after an initial wariness of the product with earlier reviews. I have a lot of experience in home electronics and enjoy setting things up, so the installation was a snap and the modification of the digital inputs was a piece of cake, although frankly I'm more impressed with the analog inputs than the digital, but that could very well be the other electronics in my stereo cabinet.

First problem is the USB input stopped functioning on day two. I'm currently stationed in Africa and have not been able to sit on hold with JVC for support, but the USB stopped working after about 12 hours of use. When it worked the sound was fantastic - awesome digital input. After the first day it just stopped playing through USB. The computer still recognizes that a USB device is connected but no sound. I thought it might be the computer so I tried running it off a laptop and again - no sound, but the computer recognized the device. I'm at a loss - The only thing the manual says is to disconnect and reconnect - well after about 20 tries one gets tired. I ended up connecting through the line out jack on the audio card to the analog inputs on the stereo- That works ok too.

Coincidentally, most of the rest of my AV stuff is JVC, so I have not used the remote to control other brand devices. The weirdest thing is that the TV control button (powering on and off other TVs) works only sometimes. No rhyme or reason, but on any given day the button will not actually turn on (or off) the TV. This phenomenon is not listed anywhere in the manual... Just strange.

All the basic features of the stereo work fine - I'm actually using the 6.1 option rather than the 7.1 because I only have six speakers and I'm impressed at the great sound for the budget price. The subwoofer-out produces a whole lot of bass, but can be controlled.

All and all, if the USB didn't crash so fast, this would be an excellent value. Still a good deal though. For me it's a replacement until I can upgrade, and for the money I haven't found anything else in the same price category that delivers the same performance.

1 out of 5 stars Took a chance, got burned........2006-04-07

Bought this unit to replace an aging Kenwood 5.1 digital receiver. Had the unit for about two weeks, at about that time I was watching a movie late one night when out of the corner of my eye I caught a bright white flash and about as soon as that registered I realized that I no longer had any audio. The unit would still power on but no audio.

I applied for a refund from Amazon, they accepted and had the unit picked up shortly thereafter at my house and at no cost to me. About a little over a week later I had my refund.

Lessons learned, going to buy a more reputable unit this time around. But definitely no hesitation in dealing with Amazon again.

While the unit was functioning it wasn't all that impressive, the audio was solid for its price range but the feature set was not overly useful when connecting to a HTPC with coax or fiber optics.

4 out of 5 stars Receiver-.......2006-03-16

I had some dificulity with the manual not being clear--but the unit works great. It is difficult to understand how to code the sound sources. After some initial problems, the unit meets my expectations.
