Amazon.com Product Description
An ideal centerpiece for your home theater system, Kenwood's affordable VR-806 supports nearly all the major surround formats while delivering 100 watts of power to your left and right front, left and right rear, center, and back surround speakers. Internally, the receiver is equipped with a 24-bit Cirrus Logic DSP processor and a 24-bit/96 kHz audio digital-to-analog converter that combine to ensure rich, dynamic sound whether you're watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster or listening to your favorite tunes. The audio experience is enhanced by the five DSP modes--arena, theater, jazz club, stadium, and disco--that simulate the acoustics of the most common live venues.
As with the best surround receivers, the VR-806 offers decoding for a variety of surround formats, including Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx. The first two play 6.1-channel soundtracks from the latest DVDs, while Pro Logic IIx converts two-channel audio sources such as CDs and VHS tapes into full multichannel splendor to create a surround-like effect. The receiver also boasts an active equalizer function that adapts to the type of speakers you own (full-range, satellite, etc.) and the type of program you're listening to (movies, music, or TV). The resulting audio can meet all types of expectations, whether you like your audio tight and crisp or full of booming echoes.
Additional audio functions include full digital bass management (sends the deep bass only to the speakers equipped to handle it); automatic signal detection for both analog and digital sources (instinctively switches between CD player, DVD player, or satellite receiver depending on which unit is playing); individual bass and treble controls; and a Midnight Theater mode, which softens loud passages of movies so that people in other rooms won't be disturbed. And, of course, the receiver includes a quartz PLL-synthesized AM/FM tuner with 40 station presets.
For the ultimate in flexibility, the VR-806 offers two component video inputs for such items as HD-compatible TVs and DVD players and three composite video inputs for VCRs, video game systems, and other products. It also comes with one component and one composite video output, along with a composite recording output. The receiver is also stacked from an audio perspective, with two coaxial and one optical digital audio inputs, six stereo analog RCA inputs, subwoofer and left/right back surround preouts, and a headphone jack for private listening. The VR-806 comes with a comprehensive remote control and is covered by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Putting together a home theater system? The VR-806 makes a great centerpiece. Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES play the 6.1-channel surround soundtracks from the latest DVDs, while Dolby Pro Logic IIx creates up to 7.1-channel surround sound from conventional 2-channel music sources like CDs, tapes and even FM radio. Active EQ tailors the receiver's response to bring the best sound out of whatever type of speakers you have (full-range, satellites, etc) and the type of program you're listening to (Movies, Music, or TV), and there are 5 audio DSP modes (Arena/Theater/Jazz Club/Stadium/Disco) that bring your music to life. With 100 watts into each of six channels (left/center/right/left surround/right surround/back surround), the VR-806 is ready to power your home theater speaker system. Coaxial and optical digital inputs provide high-quality connections for DVD players, satellite tuners and other digital sources, and six analog inputs let you connect tape decks and other components.
