The TX-SR502B handles a range of audio and video components, from front-panel audio/video/S-video jacks for simple hookups with camcorders, game consoles, and VCRs (4 AV/S inputs total), to multiple rear-panel connections, including 2 HDTV-capable component-video inputs with 50 MHz bandwidth, a VCR input, inputs for a CD player and audio recorder (CD, minidisc, cassette, etc.), a set of multichannel RCA analog inputs (perfect for use with a DVD-Audio or SACD player's high-resolution analog outputs), and a quartet of assignable digital-audio ins (3 optical, 1 coaxial) for DVD players, a satellite receiver, a DVD player, and other gear.

Routing your DVD player's and VCR's audio and video signals to the receiver before sending them on to your TV simplifies AV source switching, since you can do it all with the receiver's remote rather than having to switch inputs on your receiver and your television.

Everything about this product is evidence of high quality and detail.
It works beautifully, has a very warm, neutral sound stage, low noise levels and an exceedingly good FM tuner with a sensitive receiver...rare in any model of receiver today.

The speaker connection terminals work well, but because of the Surround sound requirement for so many terminals, the connection space is rather cramped...and that is my only negative comment. Other brands have even more cramped and poorly laid out connections, so this is a minor gripe.

Women seem especially happy with the Onkyo sound and relatively straight forward controls and settings on the remote. The manual is very easy to read, and is unusually detailed in depicting a variety of component hook up examples. Most users will find this very helpful and very friendly!

I highly recommend Onkyo products for reliability, quality and appearance.

Very good product!!, good sound, bad manual!.......2005-09-07

I bought a Sony STR597 and i was good for the price, but i could not listen the sound and the power that i thought i would have, after some months i could sell it and i decided to buy the Onkyo TX-SR502B, wwwwowww, what difference!!!!!!, the sound is so clear and the power (it is really power) is enough for a small/medium room. I could listen some details in the music that i had never listened.
I should say that the manual is very bad, and the receiver does not have a lot of sound effects.

Consider that you will need a subwoofer.
