Aiwa AV-D98 Audio/Video Receiver
Aiwa AV-D98 Audio/Video Receiver
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
AIWA's flagship AV-D98 surround receiver offers 120 watts across five channels, dynamic 5.1-channel digital surround processing, and Aiwa's Dynamic Integrated Neo Amplifier technology (DINA). Using DINA, the AV-D98 delivers higher dynamic range, increased headroom, lower distortion, and a wider audio soundstage than did previous Aiwa receivers.
Surround Processing
The AV-D98 is fixed to support Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, and DTS multichannel decoding from digital-audio bit streams supplied by your DVD player, DSS receiver, game console, or high-definition set-top box. Thirty preset DSP algorithms give you a choice of other ambient settings for your music, movies, or TV.
Connections
The receiver offers a full complement of inputs and outputs, including three digital-audio inputs (two optical, one coaxial), an optical digital-audio output (for a CD or minidisc recorder), and even 5.1-channel analog inputs to support DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD (SACD) players, which output multichannel high-resolution analog rather than digital audio.
Other connections include a phono input for your turntable, a dedicated subwoofer output, two S-video inputs and three S-video outputs, three A/V inputs, four A/V outputs, and one set of front A/V inputs.
Other Features
You'll also get an AM/FM digital-synthesized tuner, a multibrand remote control, a graphic equalizer with five factory presets and the option to save five more, BBE sound enhancement, Super T-Bass, banana-plug-ready binding-post speaker terminals, and two AC outlets (switched, unswitched).

Customer Reviews:
Great receiver for the money........2004-10-08
I bought this receiver as a set with the speakers (SX-AVR2900). If this review was for the whole set, I would have to give the system a lower score, but since this is purely for the receiver I would have to say it's a great buy. I paid about $200 for the whole thing. As far as features go, it has them all. You can adjust the sounds in just about any way. Switching from Dolby Digital to DTS could be easier but I can get over that. The remote is useful since it can be programed to everything except your DVD player (unless that too is an Aiwa). I had an old Aiwa DVD player, so I hooked it up for a while but tended to just use the DVD player's remote since the Receiver's remote seemed to lack. I have since hooked up a better DVD player since I don't use the universal remote part anymore. As far as the stock speakers, as surround goes, they are great. As for main speakers, I would replace the front left and right speaker for more power. The subwoofer and center speaker is fine. I have had the system for about 2 years and had no problems and tons of compliments while watching movies. I bought this because it was relatively cheap and had many features for the price. Overall, a great buy.
good for 3 years.......2004-09-03
I am in the process of replacing the D98. I think I have a broken relay. The system was great bringing all the components together. Sound quality was average or slightly better. Plethora of feature usually found only on high end systems. Power seems slightly over stated. I was very happy with its value per feature. I hate the plastic volume knob that makes a scratching sound when manually changing the volume. I have reached the point where I will not cut corners for a great deal on paper. The D98 was a great receiver with poor manufacturing. I am paying for that mistake. But I think I got my money's worth, otherwise I would give less stars. I think I payed in the ballpark of $200 with speakers and a 50W sub thrown in at Fry's.
Nice! Until it breaks.......2002-10-24
I bought this receiver last March and was very pleased with it until it just quit working. I thought...no problem, it's still under warranty, so I'll just get it fixed. That's when the real problems began. I happen to live in Anchorage, AK. and there is no authorized service center for Aiwa in Anchorage. I have been unable to access their Web sight for the nearest service center and their automated phone system continually disconnects. This has been going on for weeks! The reciever WAS great, but Aiwa USA needs to get their act together. I should have been suspect of buying another Aiwa product because I had a similar experience with Aiwa when I lived in San Diego, CA. I think I have definitely learned my lesson this time. NO MORE AIWA PRODUCTS FOR ME!!!
this is a great piece of equipment for anyone!!!.......2002-04-03
i just recently purchased this item and i could not be more happy with it! the instructions are clear and comprehensive and it is very easy to use. this reciever delivers incredible levels of volume and great sound quality. the only slight problem with it is that the remote didnt come with batteries and aiwa should have supplied it with more cables, otherwise, this is the ultimate reciever as far as the price/performance ratio is concerned.
