1 out of 5 stars the worst satellite receiver on the market.......2007-04-12

The wires fray fast, due to the low-grade rubber/plastic insulation. Regular use will degrade the connection fast and eventually the wires will tear apart. Unit runs extremely hot. Extremely dissatisfied with product. Xact's customer service is right "up" there with the likes of Comcast and Sprint. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS UNIT. It's cheap for a reason.

3 out of 5 stars works as advertised.......2007-04-02

The unit works well but lacks some newer features found on more advanced units. Also the way the cords go into the unit and the starting size of the cup holder mount made in unusable in my cars cup holder. It works great in the separate boom box that I use outdoors.

5 out of 5 stars Wow, I must have gotten a good one!.......2007-02-01

Let me start by saying: I don't work for Xact, Sirius, Howard Stern or anyone associated with them. I've got one of these radios after being turned on to Sirius by my best friend, who has a Sportster. I picked this up for, I kid you not, $20.00 at our local computer store, on "Managers special" down from $130.00. With minimal trouble, got it "installed" in a spare cup holder, altogether, a very easy installation. My car has a pretty weak antenna, or maybe the transmit signal's really weak on these, I'm not sure which one it is, but I went the cassette adapter method to get the signal from receiver to car stereo, as it's louder and not prone to interference from any stray signals. The service is fantastic, and the sound that this radio puts out is really great! After a couple of months, I saw a boombox for my radio at the local thrift store for a whopping $10.00 new in box, with everything included, so I picked it up and put it in the bedroom.
I haven't had a single problem with the radio, and it sounds great in the car as well as in the home. The display is clear and easy to read, and the remote, although HUGE (when compared with, say, the visor's credit card) the buttons are easy to navigate without looking away from the road in front of you, and after a brief period, you'll have the remote memorized so you won't even have to glance at it. The clarity of the display makes it very easy to read across the room, or in the car, and I especially like the signal strength and antenna fine tuning adjustments for home use.
I've since put a visor in the car, and keep this one in the boombox for home listening. It does get rather warm, but nothing like the overheating issues I've read about in other reviews, and I, for one am very happy with it, and would recommend this to anyone who asks about it.

5 out of 5 stars I have two of these and they work fine.......2007-01-21

So for the first time I looked at the reviews of this product, having owned two of them for 2 years. What is everyone talking about. I am about to buy a third one so that I can hook it up to the boom box that I just got off ebay to keep in my office. Overheating, never happened...Clumsy to use - you must have fat fingers as the remote works very simply.

I have to give it 5 stars because from day one both receivers work fine, and trust me I am a picky SOB. My colleagues like to say about me "if a complaint is a gift then Bob is like Santa Claus". If this thing sucked the way everyone is complaining then I would be at the top of the line.
Great machine, no complaints from me.

By the way, I don't work for Xact, Sirius or Howard Stern. If anyone has a machine they hate and haven't taken a hammer to it then let me know as I will willingly buy it.

1 out of 5 stars BROKE TWICE!!.......2007-01-17

The first Xact XTR1 unit I bought broke after four months. The headphone jack went dead. Thank goodness it was still under warranty (believe me, it needs it). I am on my second unit now, this one lasted a bit longer, two years. Now all it does is restart continually. Sirius is a great service, but licensing to companies like XACT will ruin it's reputation. Xact XTR1 is not a well made product, do not buy unless you like wasting time and money.

2 out of 5 stars Okay Receiver With Big Drawbacks.......2005-04-26

I bought the unit from a large retailer in Dec 2004, having been "sold" on the premise that the XACT unit had the most functionality for the price and was more portable than other units available - easily transferring from car to home to boombox, etc., if I elected those routes (with additional hardware). I liked the idea of portability and went with the XACT vehicle package.

I agree that the vehicle mounting unit is extremely limited. The actual mount has limited tilt and is cluncky with a screw that fastens to the back of the unit, making mounting and dismounting somewhat difficult. I ended up building my own base for the mount that fits in a cupholder, because the original mount wouldn't fit anywhere else. With my homemade creation, the setup works quite well. I keep my antenna on the dashboard and haven't had a big problem with reception. I even traveled 1200 miles across the county and the reception was fine. Of course, I did have to change FM modulator channels periodically from city to city, but that should be expected.

The unit is very limited overall. Scanning stations is very difficult while driving and I rely on my saved stations nearly exclusively. However, the keypad only gives access to 3 saved stations at a time and this can be annoying. I still haven't figured out the Memo/S-Seek button, even after reading the manual several times, and it seems usless.

Most troubling, in April, I returned to the big retailer where I purchased the unit (in Dec), to buy the home mounting dock. However, the retailer no longer carries XACT products in its stores. It is available on the web, but this is rather unsettling. I purchased the unit as the newest, best product less than 4 months ago and now I can't find it in any stores. I bought the unit for portability and versatility and it's already difficult to find the additional components for it.

In general, the redeeming quality of the XACT unit is that it allows me to listen to Sirius, which is an excellent service. Other than that, XACT offers poor functionality and design. If I were to do it again, I'd get a unit from a more recognizable company and definitely one with a dial.

4 out of 5 stars I love my Xact Sirius receiver.......2005-03-13

I love my Xact Sirius receiver. I works great, and I like the fact that the docking station can be turned to most any angle. Plus, Sirius may cost $3 more a month, but it has more than twice as much commercial free stations. That makes it so worth the extra $$$$

1 out of 5 stars Did Not Work.......2005-03-01

It's a nice device if you want to just look at it. I could not get the reception in my house. I placed the antenna at my window facing north/northwest as instructed and got nothing. I tried at every window and even outside. The best I could get was two minutes of reception followed by ten minutes of silence. The customer service people at Xact were impolite and not helpful. They told me that I needed to place the antenna on my roof. Obviously, if I had known that, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Sirius is a great service, but do not buy Xact products.
