Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy high-quality music and home theater performance with JBL's Northridge E50 three-way bookshelf speakers, which offer a flexible horizontal/vertical orientation that's adaptable to your location needs. Ideal as home, office, or bedroom speakers, or as part of a comprehensive surround sound system, the E50s employ JBL's professional audio engineering and high-quality construction to deliver elite sound and great value. JBL's exclusive 8-inch PolyPlas woofer, 4-inch PolyPlas midrange, and 0.75-inch titanium-laminate dome tweeter ensure an impressively wide frequency response (45 Hz to 20 kHz), which can be boosted with the addition of a powered subwoofer. The tweeter also boasts an oval design called Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS), which results in a wider horizontal dispersion of sound. The idea is simple: turn every seat, even those in the corners of the room, into the best seat in the house. Additional audio enhancements include a FreeFlow flared port that minimizes distortion and thump and a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network that preserves the original signal for additional clarity.
The E50s throw a changeup in traditional speaker orientation by resting as comfortably horizontally as they do vertically. The alternate positioning--which was inspired by the horizontal monitors seen in many recording studios--makes them ideal for people with bookshelves or tables that can't accommodate tall speakers, and for folks who just prefer the flatter look. The units measure 17.5 by 11.5 by 12.25 (W x H x D) and pack plenty of punch into the relatively compact frames, with 90 watts of continuous power handling and a max amp level of 175 watts.
The speakers' convenient five-way binding posts provide a variety of secure hookup options, including support for bi-wiring and bi-amping. The alternate cabling methods can offer either subtle (in the case of bi-wiring) or significant (bi-amping) improvements in audio imaging and detail. When the low, mid, and high frequencies are isolated, the speakers' trio of transducers can reproduce their frequency ranges even more efficiently and with greater accuracy. In addition, the speakers' computer-designed, lock-mitered cabinets virtually eliminate distortion, while their slim European profiles look elegant whether stored on individual speaker stands or bookshelves. Listeners can also mount them on a wall--an ideal solution when using them as rear surround speakers.
The E50s hail from JBL's Northridge E Series, which comprises not only floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, but also center channel speakers, subwoofers, and anything else you need to create a superior surround system. All Northridge speakers are magnetically shielded to protect against video interference and are covered by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.
What's in the Box
Two E50 speakers, self-adhesive rubber feet, warranty card, user's manual.

Or, combine it with a Northridge E center channel and subwoofer to create a powerful home theater system. The E50 performs like a pro, with technology developed by JBL's Professional division. Equipped with JBL's tried-and-true titanium-laminate tweeters and PolyPlas drivers, the speaker reproduces high notes with extreme clarity. The lows and mids, assisted by the dual FreeFlow flared ports, are loud and clear, without unwanted distortion or boominess. The Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) waveguide ensures that every seat is the best in the house for sweet music and intelligible dialogue, or for just rocking out. Since the transducers were purpose-designed to work together harmoniously, JBL's simple Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network divides the signal with minimal processing (and minimal opportunity to degrade the signal). Dual sets of sturdy gold-plated, 5-way binding posts enable bi-amping or bi-wiring.
