Polk's 100-watt Monitor 30 bookshelf loudspeaker offers high performance for music and home theater fans at an affordable price without sacrificing quality. Easily driven by a modestly-powered amplifier or receiver, the Monitor 30's highly efficient design provides open, spacious, and clear sound and is voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The speaker has a non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with .75-inch thick baffles and front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing, ensuring cleaner, more lifelike sound. Its stylish looks complement today's LCD and Plasma TVs, with wood grain finishes and modern titanium faces.

For clear and detailed high frequency response and realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments, the 30 uses a 1-inch silk/polymer composite Dynamic Balance dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnets. High efficiency, excellent bass is courtesy of a single, 5.25-inch bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance drivers that is lightweight and stiff with good damping for lower distortion. Dynamic Balance technology produces flat frequency response, sharp detail, transparency and an ability to play program material with wide dynamic range at life-like volume levels without a hint of strain. The sound is always clean, clear, and effortless.

The Monitor 30 features a critically tuned flared port that minimizes port noise for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass. The multiple small-diameter driver design also helps deliver the 30's wide dispersion, solid mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less," three-dimensional sound.

Mylar bypass capacitors are used in the crossovers, which extends high frequency response and further improves detail and transparency. Dual, five-way binding post connectors allow for secure hook-ups, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility for more advanced set ups. Plus, the speaker is magnetically shielded for safe placement on or near TVs and video monitors with no risk of distortion.

I got a used pair of these off eBay for about a hundred twenty shipped, was using them for surrounds and recently moved them to computer duty powered by a Trends Audio T-Amp (absolute steal) and have been reasonably ok with them.

Tips: I found that they actually sound better when placed upside down, so that the tweeter is on top. Try it both ways, I'm sure that individual room accoustics, placement, and tastes will all come into play.

Due to space constraints I have them very close to a back wall, which made them sound a bit boomy until I decided to stuff a sock into each of the speakers' rear ports. Since I listen mainly at moderate (60-75db) volumes this doesn't really do any harm to the speaker itself.

Detail and imaging are competent but nothing to write home about, the tweeter is not quite as precise as I would like. In retrospect I think I would have been better off going with Athena AS-B1.2s (about a hundred twenty five shipped from audioadvisor dot com), or especially the Ascend CBM-170SEs (ascendacoustics dot com) which is light years beyond but does cost about three hundred fifty. With a beefier amp though I think the Onix XL-S bookshelf speakers from av123 dot com would do very well at about two hundred fifty shipped.

I have this pair hooked up to a Onkyo receiver and use them mainly for sound when watching sports and movies in HD on my flatscreen. Crystal clear and surprisingly good bass considering I don't have a sub hooked up.

If you're an amateur like myself, go get em - you'll like em.

I hooked these speakers up to a 20+ year old NAD amplifier that delivers 20W per channel. This is at the bottom of the recommended power range, but the sound is excellent and is everything that I could have hoped for. They take up very little room and look good too. I am very satisfied and would buy them again.

This is one of the best products I have spent my money on. This speakers 'speak' well and you will be amazed at how well they sound for that kind of size.
Also, the buying experience from Amazon was excellent. I got mine deleivered in about 2 days.

For the past 5 years I had built a system composed of polk speakers for the front and center channels, but never got around to puchasing the rears. I instead used a pair of infinities i had received from a relative at no cost. Those rears both blew and after several months of annoying flutter sounds, I made the decision to get some new rears, preferbly polk. I wanted a speaker that sounded great, yet didnt blow a hole in my pocket, leaving me with regret. So i did what i loved to do; research. When it comes to home theatre equipment, I find alot of joy in the research as well as shopping for the best price. If your a fan of electronics, im sure many of you can relate. So, I came across several polk models worthy of the buy, one of them seemed to expensive, the other too cheap and small. The M30 was perfect size for the price. I took a stab at it without even listening to it, because I trust polk audio. Once I installed them and listed, I was blown away. They needed a little fine tuning, but thats it. I could hear every detail in 5.1 surround without being over powering. They sounded much better than my old infinitys. Bottom line, buy these, they are a perfect addition to your home theatre.
