The speaker is outfitted with a 15-inch high-excursion cone woofer, a 6.5-inch midrange, and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter, which combine to produce a wide-ranging 26 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. The room-filling results are remarkably gratifying whether the listener is enjoying the latest surround sound movie soundtrack, a state-of-the-art multichannel audio format such as SACD or DVD-Audio, or a traditional two-channel stereo CD.The woofer owes its elite performance to its custom-designed cast-aluminum frame, fiber-impregnated cellulose cone, and huge high-temperature voice coils. The construction details create a powerful bass response and--in tandem with the midrange driver--a much more pleasing middle that extends well beyond the weak, distorted mids commonly associated with large-driver two-way speakers.
