The Cambridge SoundWorks New Ensemble is among the most popular and most highly acclaimed speaker systems of all time. Designed by Cambridge SoundWorks co-founder, Emmy Award winner and Audio Hall of Fame member Henry Kloss, it delivers an unprecedented combination of high-performance and high value without filling your living room with huge boxes.

The satellites are 2-way speakers with built-in crossovers. Each incorporates a long-throw mid-bass/midrange speaker and a 1 3/4-inch direct radiator tweeter. Most sub/sat systems use two identical speaker drivers in each satellite. Using separate drivers for the mid and high frequencies sounds better because each speaker can specialize in producing one part of the signal. And the midrange speaker responds low enough to eliminate gaps between the satellites and the subwoofer. The satellites can be placed at ear level, positioned for a realistic stereo image. Their small size makes them very unobtrusive.

New Ensemble uses two slim (4 1/2-inch) acoustic suspension subwoofer cabinets enclosing 8-inch woofers. The narrow subs can be put in places where no other subwoofer would fit: under furniture, on top of shelves or behind drapes. The result is uniform bass response throughout the listening room. New Ensemble's dual subwoofers will play louder and can handle more power than single subwoofer systems.

    I've had these speakers for several years and they are a classic. Speaker designs tend to come and go, and it's great to see that Cambridge knows a good thing when they make it. There is nothing about the performance of these speakers that would lead one to suspect the low price-point. The best thing about the performance is that you would never know that the low-frequencies were coming from a separate box than the satellites. The overall effect is very cohesive. If you are in the market for a sub/sat system, the Ensemble III is a winner.
