    Amazon.com Product Description

The HT-DDW700 offers everything you need to bring out the full audio experience of your DVDs, digital cable, and other entertainment sources. The advanced A/V receiver pumps 800 watts of power (133 watts x 5, plus 135-watt sub) into its 5.1-channel configuration, while the five satellite speakers and 8-inch active subwoofer deliver authentic, immersive surround sound. And as you would expect from a modern surround product, the receiver is equipped with an array of analog and digital audio inputs and stands ready to decode Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II formats.

Properly setting up a surround sound system can be a bit of a drag, as it requires you to fidget with the location for each of the system's speakers in order to create a proper sound field. Fortunately, the HT-DDW700's auto calibration function simplifies the entire ordeal. To calibrate the system, simply place the included microphone in the ideal listening position, such as the center of your couch, and the system will automatically adjust for speaker placement, distance, and delays. As a result, the system conforms to your space, not the other way around.

The receiver also offers Sony's Digital Cinema Sound processing--a technology developed in cooperation with the sound engineers at Sony Pictures Entertainment. The studio created three different sound stages, each customized for recording three different categories of audio: speech, special effects, and music. The end result was three specific digital signal processing techniques. The first is optimized for crystal-clear dialogue in dramas and comedies, the second is designed to bring out the full ground-shaking experience of action films, and the third is created for specifically for musicals, concert videos, and such.

Listeners will also dig the five bass-reflex satellite speakers--four for the front and rear channels and one for the center channel--each of which includes a 2.75-inch woofer that produces a crisp midrange. The 8-inch subwoofer, meanwhile, pumps out powerful, room-filling bass.

Additional features include an AM/FM tuner with 30 presets (20 FM and 10 AM), a digital clock with a sleep timer, and coaxial and optical digital inputs. Dimensions range from 17 by 5.75 to 12.12 inches (W x H x D) for the receiver to 3.62 by 3.88 by 4 inches for the front/satellite speakers to 6 by 3.88 by 4 inches for the center. Finally, the entire system is magnetically shielded against video interference, so you can place the speakers near you TV without distorting the picture. The HT-DDW700 is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

    What's in the Box
Receiver, two front speakers, two rear speakers, center channel speaker, subwoofer, remote control, FM wire antenna, AM loop antenna, coaxial digital cord, 20 foot pads, four subwoofer foot pads, two AA batteries, optimizer microphone, user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars Great Small System.......2007-06-24

I just installed the system today in our master bedroom. We have a 44" Toshiba DLP rear projection TV - great picture but sound was weak. The Sony system worked great right out of the box. I made a couple of modifications that worked well, too. For the center speaker, I substituted the internal TV speakers for the small Sony one. I also used a pair of wireless speakers for the rear speakers so that I wouldn't have to run rear speaker wires clear around the room. I ordered the wireless system at the same time as the Sony (See the Colby 2.4 Ghz Wireless Speaker System). This combination worked well and I happy I bought it. Why not 5 stars? - small speaker wire that can't be removed from the speakers. However, for a small system the sound is good.

    5 out of 5 stars impressive system.......2007-06-06

i bought this system for an upstairs bonus room which isn't very big and this Sony system gets the job done. I've had the system for a few months now and have had no problems and am really enjoying movies and gaming.

5 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong for under $200.......2007-05-29

Already had a DVD player and wanted a system to complete the package. Sound quality is great. Haven't turned it up all the way because the sound that comes out is ample. Most important thing for me was being able to hook up my AirPort Wireless to it. Now I run my itunes wirelessly from my lap top and don't have to mess with a CD. Works great and there are still three more plug-ins for any other devices I want (VHS). Had a Panasonic, what a piece of junk, returned it and got this. For under $200, what more could you want?

4 out of 5 stars Great unit for price!.......2007-05-05

After researching this unit on the internet I purchased one at a retailer location near my work. The service was Horrible but the heavily discounted price made the hassle well worth it.

For a small to medium sized room this is the best unit out there for under $300, much less under $200. Yes more expensive units will allow for greater expansion and more options for input and output of sound. But if you have a large space and large plasma or LCD (over 46") then you can probably afford the the pricier units which will allow for future growth of additional equipment and changes in technology. But if like me you have a nice sized city condo and smaller LCD (40") then this is the perfect unit, no matter what price point.

Each of the satallite speakers (front and rear) produce loud and crisp sound while the center speaker perfectly mimics voice. The non-amplified subwoofer is more then enough (and despite what other reviews have said the volume output can easily be lowered through the menu options).
Hook up to DVD, Cable through digital is very simple and the unit allows up to 3 additional non-digital connections.

Other reviews have also mentioned a low output of total volume, but this is because of user error. Dolby and Prologic decoders will lower the volume of sound that is not originally created and recorded in as high of quality as Dolby and Prologic, thus lowering the volume. The very simple fix to this is for the user to actually read the manual and easily change the sound output based on what is being "viewed" or listened to and how that sound was originally recorded.
(i.e. DVD's are typically recorded in 5.1 Dolby which require no converstion by the stereo and thus will not lower the volume, but if you are watching a comedy on TV it was most likely recorded in just 2.1 stereo which requires the stereo to convert the sould to Dolby, thus lowering the volume. If however, you simply change the output when switching to TV from DVD then the volume will remain the same)

    Pros:
    -Powerfull little system
    -Low price
    -simple set up
-auto calibration (takes the guess work out of speaker placement, lets face it no one can really put the speakers right where they suggest)
-seperate volume control for each speaker (through menu)
-easily change the label to read up to 8 characters or each input
-does not include DVD player. An attached DVD player will only lower power output and cause possible play back issues with temp.

    Cons:
-Does require reading the menu (as a guy this sucked because I just wanted to play with it and figure it out myself...no can do here)
-Complete dependency on the Remote (all functions are limited or even impossible with out the remote)
-Nearly impossible to expand or evolve with your system or future tech.

Overall I Strongly suggest getting this unit at or well under $200 (I paid $150)..."IF" you do not want a massive amount of obnoxious, loud noise to bother the neighboors and/or wish to purchase a system which can expand with you and tech for the next 5 years, but are simply looking for a system which provides phenomenally better sound then any TV will ever provide alone; this is the system for you!

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price.......2007-03-21

This is my first AV receiver system. I didn't know what to expect. I like Sony products and decided to give this a try as it was cheap in amazon (even before using my gift card).

Sometimes, i feel the bass is too high even when i reduce it. But, overall i feel it's an awesome purchase. Especially, watching DVDs with DTS 5.1 output is awesome using this system.

One problem with the receiver is that the controller (or whatever it's called) is too big and has very few buttons to control it. Most of the controls are in the remote control. The remote (kinda) operates as a TV remote (i have a Sony Wega TV), but the controls are really dumb. I have to hold a button named 'TV' everytime i want to use the receive remote as a TV remote. I now have 4 remotes :( Some receivers come with an universal remote, but they are expensive. So, you get what you pay for. I consider this a good purchase.

    Amazon.com Product Description

The HT-DDW900 offers everything you need to bring out the full audio experience of your DVDs, digital cable, and other entertainment sources. The advanced A/V receiver pumps 900 watts of power (140 watts x 5, plus 200-watt sub) into its 5.1-channel configuration, while the five satellite speakers and 8-inch active subwoofer deliver authentic, immersive surround sound. And as you would expect from a modern surround product, the receiver is equipped with an array of analog and digital audio inputs and stands ready to decode Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II formats.

Perhaps the receiver's most impressive feature, however, is its High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), which delivers uncompressed digital audio and video directly to a digital TV. The input represents the current state-of-the-art in high-definition video because the information is never converted into an analog format, and thus never has the opportunity to degrade. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all the information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector. The HT-DDW900 also provides a handy HDMI-switching feature, with two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output.

Properly setting up a surround sound system can be a bit of a drag, as it requires you to fidget with the location for each of the system's speakers in order to create a proper sound field. Fortunately, the HT-DDW900's auto calibration function simplifies the entire ordeal. Additional features include an AM/FM tuner with 30 presets (20 FM and 10 AM), a digital clock with a sleep timer, and a remote control. Connectivity stems from the two component video inputs and one output, four composite video inputs and two outputs, six analog audio inputs, and the digital audio inputs (one coaxial and two optical). Finally, the entire system is magnetically shielded against video interference, so you can place the speakers near you TV without distorting the picture.

The HT-DDW900 receiver measures 16.88 by 6.25 by 12.5 inches (W x H x D), while the front, rear, and center speakers check in at 6.12 by 3.75 by 4 inches each. The HT-DDW900 is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars This Does NOTHING more than HDMI PASSTHROUGH.......2007-06-21

I didn't buy this through Amazon, I got it directly through Vanns. How are all these people happy with this thing? I bought it because it had HDMI, and figured it would take all the IN components and put OUT through HDMI no problem to my plasma. WRONG. All it does is passthrough. I even ran component from the receiver to the TV and it won't upconvert to THAT either. WTF?
Go buy a Yamaha. They do what they're supposed to, unlike this piece of poorly designed garbage.

    4 out of 5 stars A novice's home theater system.......2007-05-24

After having done my research of what I wanted, I then read all of the reviews for this unit. Admittedly, and being somewhat of a novice when it comes to electonics, I took to heart what others had said about wiring needs, the confusion with the instruction booklet, issues with set-up, etc.

My components are as simple as it can get: (1)JVC TV (not HDTV), (1)Sony DVD player (digital), and (1)JVC VCR (standard). How complicated can it be? Well, after reading the booklet, I did indeed find it confusing as it really didn't give explicit directions to setting anything up. It more or less gives general guidelines since many different devices can be connected to the receiver. But I did appreciate the pictures of types of connections that could be made for different type of devices. So through trial and error I got the hook-up correct. And by the way, I had to spend an additional $50 in wires and supplies. I needed a digital coax cable for sound (for the DVD player), a digital video cable (for the DVD player), an RCA cable (for the VCR), a special cable with an S-Video connector on one end and an RCA plug on the other to connect from my TV to the receiver, and speaker wire (16-18 gauge). I also needed to buy the supplies to make two wall shelves to place the surround speakers onto the walls of our room.

The microphone that comes with the unit to set up the speakers is very cool. I cannot imagine trying to callibrate each speaker to sound as it should. But I had to manually change each speakers volume as they were preset at 0db.

I agree with one of the reviewers that the speakers, though small (which I like)don't put out the sound as I would desire even with the adjustments that I made. Loud ought to be LOUD especially when watching movies. But the max setting on the receiver is 65, and it ain't loud.

WIth regard to the remote control, I don't like it. It is not user friendly. It is quite a frustration trying to navigate within the various menues. Furthermore, the one that I received was deffective. I was unable to program the codes for the other machines into it. And the video/tv button didn't work. I have since received from Sony's customer service another remote control for free.

Overall, I like the unit as it meets the desires of having surround sound in the small room I have our TV in. If the room was bigger this unit would not be sufficient. The price I paid was superb. With shipping I spent under $300, although I needed to spend another $50 for wires. But still not bad! I wish there was better volume especially when watching sci-fi and action movies. I think for a novice like me this is a good first system so as to get familiarized with how these things work as well as learn what is liked verses not. Then in the future purchase a better system.

5 out of 5 stars Don't pass up on this system!!.......2007-05-15

I think the complaints about the "pass-thru" HDMI are completely out of context. Sure, it doesn't carry audio or upconvert analog signals over HDMI, but come on people - what else in this price range does?

I've got this system connected to a Panasonic TH-42PH9UK plasma display a Dishnet VIP622 receiver and a new Philips DVP5982 upconverting DVD player. This HT setup gives us ALL the features we wanted, performs wonderfully doing it and didn't force us into the poorhouse.

PROS: inexpensive, sounds great, powerful active subwoofer, black color, easy install, lots of inputs (including 2 HDMI!), lets you use your own DVD player, small footprint speakers, AM/FM radio, auto-calibration, decodes Dolby-Digital/DTS/PL2, headphone output, doesn't use proprietary speaker wire connectors.

CONS: no speaker stands included, cheap speaker wire, manual could explain things a little better.

BTW, this system came from Vanns and I got EXCELLENT service. In fact, a few days after receiving it, I found it advertised on their website for a bit less than what I paid. After speaking to one of their customer service reps, they arranged to pricematch themselves and refund me the difference! Very cool!

All in all, I'm VERY pleased with this purchase. It's almost identical to it's replacement, the HT-7000DH, but costs MUCH less $$$ and doesn't lock you into a DVD player you may not want. Don't pass up on this deal!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome sound, Excellent quality, Movie Theatre in my LR.......2007-05-14

This system has wonderful crisp clear sound and never any static, even at a higher volume. It gives me chills at times, especially when watching a scary or dramatic movie, when I hear something coming up behind me (from rear speakers). Here is an example of how good the sound is: We live out in the country, with neighbors, but not close at all. One day, my son was playing Halo2 on the X-box and had the front door open (dont ask me why, he is a doofus sometimes)and was shooting up the bad guys with gun shots and grenades. Our neighbor came by and peeked slowly around the door and was very relieved to not find any dead bodies. He said he thought someone was getting shot over here and came to see if everyone was ok. Then he proceeded to drool over our new TV and theatre system. He was relieved that no one was hurt and now my son remembers to close the door and not air condition the entire 5 acres. We have this hooked up to our new 40 inch Samsung LCD HDTV (awesome) as well as the Wii, a VCR/DVD combo, and the already-mentioned X-box. Each component gets awesome quality sound from this system. I highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Sony Sounds good!.......2007-05-13

Extrememly satisfied with this home theater system. Had to look up a few things on line but all in all very easy to set up and very easy on the ears! Bass is perfect. Surround is perfect. Has many different settings and all of them are really cool. (you have to go in and turn up the volume on the small speakers, they are set to 0 as default) Replaced wimpy speaker wire with 22 guage. Would recommend this system to all.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! Cops came to my house!.......2004-06-12

This system is great! I bought it for space reasons...great features and sound that takes up 1/3 of the space of my old bulky entertainment center. I live in a single family detached home, and was listening to the HQ**2 mix of Toni Braxton's "Hit The Freeway" one evening and was surprised to find the local cops knocking on my door. This system puts out!! The bass from the subwoofer was the problem...I turn it down now whenever I hit the Toni Braxton track. ;-) My only complaint is I now have three remotes to juggle...one for the receiver, one for the DVD/VCR combo and one for my TV. Need to shop around for a good universal remote that is compatible. Oh yea, and the LED display on the tuner is blue, and the DVD/VCR display is green...what's up with that?

    5 out of 5 stars Marvelous.......2003-12-30

This system is the greatest investment I could have bought. Easy setup took a little more than one hour, got everything up and running that night. One flaw in Sony's design is some of the cords are to short. They don't reach down to the floor. There are many plugs and not enough outlets, I think they should all be able to plug into the reciever to take up only one outlet

    4 out of 5 stars Good System.......2003-12-21

I recently purchased at circuit city, $50 less than amazon.com. I thought they were partners? The dvd player didn't work but return was no problem. The sound is very clear and the bass is strong. I have to keep the bass turned down due to apartment living. Hookup was kind of a pain. Once I discarded the directions and used logic it worked.

Remote for the dvd is a bit poor as one button acts as left, right, up, down and enter. It is easy to hit enter unintentionally.

I don't think the product description makes it clear but this is also an am/fm tuner.

Overall, I'm very satisfied and would buy it again.

5 out of 5 stars Space Saver. Great Performance & Features. Many Hookups........2003-09-20

I live in a Apartment so was obviously very Space Conscious. Was Originally looking for a DVD+VHS Player combination only, but eventually decided to go for the Home Theater containing everything I'd need. Great Speaker Performance for my needs (much much more than I need). A Space Saver indeed with the DVD Player & VHS Units combined.

I also have a MultiSystem TV, SVCD Player+Tape Deck, another MultiSystem VHS & CableBox in house & was really Impressed by the Ability to Connect all of these Devices Interconnected using AV1, AV2, RFin RFOut & more hookup Connections. I & wife drew a neat connecting diagram & were able to hookup all of them in 1-2 hours. Right now all of my above Devices can Play on this Fantastic 5 Speaker+SubWoofer System.

We also compared Sony & the Panasonic HT-810V Model & this was clearly a Winner since we needed lot more devices hooked up to the Speaker System. A HomeTheater with a Separate Receiver is always the Best Idea & I am glad we made that decision.

We enjoy the Product a Lot. I would recommend it to everyone who is looking to buy a Home Theater.

Shop for it Online. There are many other Retailers giving better prices for the Product. Actually we bought it from B&H Photo Video where inspite of the Shipping Price, the Cost was lower than Amazon & CircuitCity with Free Shipping.

Future Growth with a more Powerfull Receiver is also possible which is also a nice thing.

    Product Description

The DAV-DX255, a five-disc, slot loading DVD 5.1 surround sound system provides a flexible way to set-up the system to achieve optimal performance. With Sony's multi-speaker formation function, you can select from seven different speaker formations. Whether all of the speakers are kept in the front of the room or in a more traditional surround sound system formation the DAV-DX255 system can be adjusted to conform to the listening environment. All of these speaker formations are selectable from an on-screen display detailing speaker placement. The DCAC technology ensures that speakers are optimized for the room configuration providing a rich and enveloping sound. Additionally, this powerful 1000-watt home theater system includes an audio input for connecting and listening to digital music stored on portable audio players. For improved compressed audio clarity, Sony's digital signal processing circuitry and 32-bit S-Master digital amplifier technology helps achieve a more accurate sound. Another feature is a music/movie mode that automatically optimizes sound quality for music or movies by adjusting bass levels and cross-over frequencies.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Store hours upon hours of entertainment in Sony's DAV-DX255 five-disc carousel changer and surround sound receiver. This versatile unit plays DVDs and a variety of older disc formats, such as VCD and SVCD, as well as your favorite music CDs. The advanced AV receiver packs 1000 watts of power into authentic 5.1 surround sound. Five satellite speakers and an six-inch subwoofer deliver the lifelike sound. The system decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and dts.

    Calibration Made Easy
Proper set up of a surround sound system can be a bit of a drag. Creating the right sound field in a room often requires a lot of fidgeting with the placement of the system's speakers. Fortunately, DAV-DX255 has an auto calibration feature that customizes the system to your space, not the other way around. To calibrate the system, you simply hold the included microphone in your ideal viewing position, such as the center of your couch, and the system automatically adjusts for speaker placement, distance and delays.

    MP3 and JPEG File Playback
The DAV-DX255 plays MP3 sound files and JPEG photo files. Insert the disc and use the remote control to navigate through your folders to your files.

    What's in the Box
Five speakers, subwoofer, AM loop antenna (aerial), FM wire antenna (aerial), speaker cords, video cord, remote control, two AA-size batteries, calibration microphone, footpads, and operating instructions.

4 out of 5 stars TARGET buyers beware!!.......2007-05-01

I purchased this item @ Target on impulse which cost me $65.00 more than on the internet @ that time. Target would not attempt to match or give a store credit for $ 65.00 or any amount for that matter. Be very careful when buying/ anything at Target!
As far as the product is concerned, it is not as good as the other Sony 5 disc DVD player I own/use. The sound (speech)could be better quality and the loading of DVD's is combersome in comparison to my other Sony model. No on screen display when changing DVD's and a disc location light has stopped operating.
    Music sounds terrific.

    5 out of 5 stars Terrific!.......2007-04-02

I really like this system. I used to work at Circuit City and sold audio products and I've heard apparently "the best of the best", but after a certain point...to my ears...it all kind of runs together :) This has a very good sound however and is very simple to set up. My movies sound amazing as well as my music. A couple of weeks ago I sat and just listened to a concert and it was wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Home Theater System for the price........2007-03-25

For $300 delivered we are very happy with this system. It sounds really good in my opinion. For people who are not sound experts this will get the job done at a great price. If you have money to burn, then go buy a $1200 system and it will probably sound a little better.

    5 out of 5 stars SONY DAVDX255 DVD SYSTEM.......2007-03-21

FOR THE PRICE AND THE BRAND IT IS THE BEST I EVER .......THIS IS THE BEST BUY!

    4 out of 5 stars good value.......2007-03-20

I wanted a decent surround sound....ok...honeslty, I wanted an EXCELLENT sound system, but don't want to invest $1000+. I just need something to take the heat off the television speakers. I have a 52" DLP TV - the picture is great, but the speakers are lacking. My husband has some high frequency hearing loss. I appreciate fine sound, but can't justify a high-priced system for our purposes. You will be disappointed if you expect BOSE quality sound, but this system does a decent job for the price. My husband is overseas and my youngest child recently married and moved away, leaving me to fend for myself to hook up electronics of any kind for the first time. I have always had someone else to do it. With that in mind, the system was easy to set up (all color coded) and calibrate. I found the remote wasn't exactly self-explanitory, but after reading the user's manual, was easy to use. I like the ability to program 20 radio stations. I do like to crank my music up sometimes. I find the sound is good (not excellent) It doesn't crank the volume I may like...but, as my kids pointed out, my neighbors would be complaining if I lived in an apartment! Loud enough. Overall, I am pleased with the system. It offers ease of set-up and use, decent volume and sound, 6 CD/DVD changer. I give it 4 stars because I'm a pretty tough customer - I think this is a good value system, but there is always room to impress me more!

    Product Description

Put together a versatile home theater system with great features. Purchase the HT-5800DP Home Theater In A Box System. It has 720 Watts of total power, 5 Disc DVD changer, and a tuner with 20 FM + 10 AM presets. The system includes a slim center speaker, 4 satellite speakers, and a 120-Watt subwoofer. Purchase the HT-5800DP Home Theater comes with Dolby Digital, dts, and Dolby Pro-Logic II Decoding, giving you flexibility with your surround sound. Additional features include Custom Parental Control, Instant Replay, and SmoothScan and SmoothSlow modes.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's HT-5800DP home theater system brings home the convenience of a specially matched, all-in-one system with the quality of separate components. You get a stand-alone 5-disc DVD/CD changer with play exchange (swap 4 discs while 1 is playing), a 5.1-channel audio/video surround receiver with separate A and B speaker outputs for multiroom use, and a 5.1-channel speaker system. With its impressive 120-watts-per-channel x 6 channels (4 satellites, 1 center speaker, and an equal-wattage powered subwoofer), the system is ready for action right out of the box.

The DVD player spins DVD movies as well as recordable CDs packed with your favorite MP3 music, filling your room with glorious surround sound. The system processes everything from DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 discrete surround signals to Dolby Pro Logic II, which generates multichannel surround from any stereo source--movie or music. The system's onboard 32-bit surround processor also features Sony's own digital signal processing, broadening your surround listening possibilities. All requisite cabling for basic use are included, making it easy to assemble.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the HT-5800DP's DVD player--the Sony DVP-NC675P/S--stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The receiver does not offer component-video inputs or switching, so you'll need to connect the DVD player's component-video outputs directly to your compatible television to appreciate this feature.

Three composite-video inputs offer accompanying analog-audio inputs, accommodating most audio/video components and granting convenient AV switching. If you have an older TV you may require a video modulator to convert the receiver's composite-video (yellow RCA jack) signal to an RF signal (which uses a thicker, threaded jack).

The included speakers cover front left/right/center and rear left/right/center, along with a powerful, 10-inch, 120-watt subwoofer with a bass port for added low-frequency slam. The sub may be placed anywhere that's convenient for you; its low-frequency sounds are difficult for the ear to localize and thus appear to emanate from the appropriate smaller speakers. All satellites use a single 3.25-inch driver, while the center speaker uses a pair of 4-inch drivers to better handle the bulk of the audio from your DVDs (including critical dialogue). All speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent distortion when placed on or near your TV.

A host of radio presets (20 FM, 10 AM) put all your favorite stations (and then some) right at your fingertips, and the receiver's amplifier uses discrete output transistors for clean, quality power.

    What's in the Box
DVP-NC675P/S DVD/CD changer, STR-K5800P receiver, SS-VE58P speaker package (5 speakers), SA-WMSP68 subwoofer, a user's manual, all requisite speaker cable, 1 coaxial digital-audio interconnect, and UniCommander remote control (RM-PP760), remote batteries, and warranty information.

    -good remote
    -very good overall quality

-impossible to eject discs using the remote

    1. Volume. Not what I expected. 0-70. 40 is easy listening volume. 50 might, repeat might upset the neighbors after 10pm. And that's listening to music, movies are even quieter.
    2. It does not shuffle ALL disks. The shuffle function only works for one disk at a time.
    3. Does not play mp3's off a dvd+r. I don't know if any system can, but it should.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy from Sony!!!.......2004-08-17

This is the 3rd home theather Sony branded I have. I bought this unit less than a year ago and the display went dead suddenly. Now Sony is charging me $200 to have it fixed. What a disappointment for a company that claims to be best in class. Never will do business with them again.

      2 out of 5 stars BUZZZZZZZ..........2004-06-10

I was very pleased with this system for the first month or so I owned it (better speakers would make it much better though..); However, shortly after that it began making a loud intermittent buzzing noise. This noise ranges from almost imperceptible, to so loud it drowns out almost all other audio output. It seems to be coming from the satelite speakers only.

I have a friend with a different Sony system and he has a similar problem with his subwoofer. (Maybe this is a problem with Sony products in general?) He tried to get it serviced and was told there was nothing wrong with it. I hope I have better luck, as this can really be a great system on the rare occasion that I can hear it over the sometimes thundering buzz!

5 out of 5 stars A big step up from pro-logic.......2004-05-27

Wow! Our previous system was a Kenwood Dolby ProLogic receiver (100W/ch) w/ Bose 301 front speakers (we used "emulated" center channel) and some generics for the rear. And we thought it was nice. We were not prepared for this. After hooking things up we watched Jurassic Park. When the T-Rex roared you knew it, even if you were in a different room. On the other side of things, you can hear people speaking very clearly. I tend to agree that the manual could be a little more user-friendly but I had no trouble (mainly because I only hooked up the included DVD changer audio to the receiver {using digital via included coax}, the component video went straight to the TV and the speakers hooked to the receiver.) I have no more use for my equalizer, cd player, vcr, tape deck, etc. but there are plenty of hook-ups for these devices.
Mostly everything is set-up correctly right from the box. Just make sure you configure the DVD to turn on DTS and Dolby Digital. I also suggest using the digital coax (orange jacks) for connecting the DVD audio to the receiver and getting better speaker wires for the speakers (lamp cord from HomeDepot or Lowes is 100x better than the scrawny included wires)

      5 out of 5 stars A great system.......2004-03-12

I've owned this system for almost a year and find it is extremely versitile and does most everything I want. The only drawback is that it has no turntable inputs. That's right, I ahve an old AR turntable that I want to connect. Oh well.

      5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2004-02-20

This system is well worth the money. It really does sound fantastic. I have a large apartment and this baby fills it with no problem. The changer played every disc I threw at it (cd-r, cdrw, dvd r+) with no problem. I haven't been able to test out the progressive scan yet, but when my HDTV is delivered next week, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this system.

Update: I got my new TV and let me just say that watching DVD's with Progressive scan and through component video cables is unbelievable! This system was one great buy!

4 out of 5 stars Good sound, Good quality.......2006-07-22

I received this as a gift and have not been disappointed.

      Pros:
-Accurately provides movie sounds through the proper channel
-Interprets DTS & Dolby Pro Logic tracks
-Has coax inputs for DVD player
-Determines proper mode based on program's encoding (if provided) or you can override and select your own
-Allows for you to enter distance from you to each speaker for better sound quality
-Small speakers are nice to look at but provide good sound
-Addditional channel for "Main" music speakers if desired (A & B Speaker channel selectors)
-Subwoofer kicks - worth the money
-Independently powered subwoofer provides more power
-Easy hookup and tons of Aux ports (I have a DVD, Tivo, DirecTV receiver, and VCR connected without issue)

      Cons:
-No wireless setup for rear speakers
-No onscreen menus (menus are accessed through LCD panel on front)
-Does not work with Tivo remote: requires the use of the stereo's remote (probably a limitation of Tivo but thought I'd mention it anyway)
-Subwoofer requires coax cable (not speaker wire) and the cable provided is about 3 feet (probably need to buy another cable)
-Provided remote is clunky, buttons are hard to find and nothing about it is intuitive

Overall it is a good system. I am very happy with it.

3 out of 5 stars Decent System, NOT 5 Star Solution.......2006-02-23

I rec'd this system. It is decent. Probally works great in small room, Dorm Room etc. Not what I would call Top of the line. Base is ok. Suround OK. I have a large family room with high ceilings. High end 42" Flat Screen and wanted to take sound up a notch or two. I bought this system for around $250.00 and am returning it. I will look at higher end systems like BOSE etc. for better sound. Probally $750 to $1500.00 System to get what I want.

      5 out of 5 stars Just awesome.......2005-12-15

This is an awesome system. The power is perfect and the sound is crisp. I used better speaker wires and thats why I think I got the perfect response from the amp. The sub...as mentioned above is crazy powerful...have to leave it on half way to reduce the vibration for my nieghbours below. Good looking ....could do with another digital input.....

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sony system.......2005-08-05

I just got this system yesterday, but I feel that I have tested it enough to give a fair review. The setup was relatively straightforward; plan on about an hour total including hookups and figuring out all the controls using the decent manual. Once you figure out the optimum configurations for the CD player/Ipod, and those for movies, the sound is incredible for the price. The volume has to be kept somewhat high for decent volume, but this may just be because the provided wires are too thin. But, once it's turned up, the sound quality doesn't diminish at all, and the volume max is more than adequate. Don't plan to use this to fill a giant hall with dance music, though. The best part of the system, I think is the subwoofer. That thing is really powerful; I am kind of scared to turn it up more than halfway. Great buy!

5 out of 5 stars Great Home Theater System.......2005-07-23

We have this home theater system in our bedroom and it is awesome. Great sound and great quality as you would expect from Sony. I would definitely consider purchasing another system for our living room.

      Amazon.com Product Description

Looking for a home theater system with more style than bulky black boxes can offer? Do complicated setups make your head hurt? Sony's DAV-FC7 Dream system may be the reality for your home-theater fantasies. The compact set features a slot-loading five-disc DVD-Video changer with built-in surround-receiver abilities and color-coded speaker terminals, five satellite speakers, and a separate subwoofer designed to work in concert to deliver spectacular video quality and exhilarating, full-bodied surround sound from both DVD and Super Audio CD (SACD) music sources.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DAV-FC7 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Choose from progressive-scan component-video outputs, composite-video, or S-video outputs. (Older TVs may require an RF modulator or video switcher to convert composite- or S-video to a threaded RF coaxial jack.)

Whether watching a DVD or discovering the sonic benefits of SACD, you'll enjoy the DAV-FC7's outstanding, 100-watts-per-channel audio performance (across left, center, right, left/right surround, and subwoofer outputs) from Sony's S-Master full-digital amplifier. Depending on the discs, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound, using a high-resolution 1-bit converter to exceed the quality potential found in the standard 16-bit compact disc. For added convenience, the system also offers MP3 file playback and JPEG image CD slideshows so you can get the most from your favorite digital media right in the comfort of your living room.

After just minutes of setup time, you can enjoy the DAV-FC7 from the repose of your easy chair with the supplied easy-to-operate Remote Commander remote control. Auxiliary connections include secondary composite- and S-video sources for a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR and a headphone jack.

      What's in the Box
DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, five satellite speakers, five short speaker stands, a passive subwoofer, a remote control (RM-SP900), remote batteries, a user's manual, and all requisite cabling.

      1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy - unless gift for Ex-wife.......2007-04-08

Sounds like a broken record about this machine - but when powered on the DVD display blinks twice and then goes blank. At this time and for some time later (maybe days or weeks) the DVD function won't work - no eject, no insert - no play!!

If you want one, I will sell you mine - certified not to be working on arrival.

      2 out of 5 stars Hello....Recall please.......2007-01-23

I can't believe that Sony has not done something about this. Our system has the same CD and power problems! I have already mounted the speakers on the walls and would love to just replace the unit with something compatible. I used to always buy Sony products but after this piece of junk, I'm looking elsewhere for dependable electronics

I'm sorry to say that I too have seen the 'standby' glitch but in the past I was able to unplug the system and power it back on to fix the problem. UNTIL TODAY
Now when I power on the system it flashes 'DVD' for a second, then goes blank. I cannot eject or insert a DVD. No display on the TV. But the FM tuner and audio inputs still work.
This system cost me $400 2.5 years ago. I was never thrilled with it - sound is ok, but no Treble/Bass or EQ adjustment is available.
It also takes forever to switch between disks, maybe an acceptable sacrifice for such a sleek system.. but now it no longer functions for me.
Not that anyone is going to be buying these new anymore. Just steer clear!

3 out of 5 stars First home theater system.......2006-12-29

I actually won this system via a radio contest, and I have had it for 2 years now. There have been some small annoyances, but otherwise, it has been a good system. It looks sharp, was easy to setup and use, and there was plenty of length to the speaker wire to setup surround sound in nearly any size room. The DVD changer is slow, but the sound and picture quality is great. I would recommend this system if you only have a basic setup of home theater, as multiple inputs/outputs can be a bit of a hassle.

      4 out of 5 stars 4 years and running..........2006-12-26

I have had my system now for 4 years and the only problem I run into is when I hit the disk switch button to move to another disk, it will sometimes eject instead. This is minor for me. I LOVE the Dvd player, and the sound is fantastic! For a middle of the road Home theather system, this is perfect!
