The NS-AW1 all-weather speaker system is Yamaha's first speaker pair designed for use in the outdoors. The two-way acoustic suspension design incorporates a high-compliance, glass-filled, cloth 5-inch midrange/woofer and 1/2-inch tweeter--solidly reproducing the lower, middle, and upper frequencies--in a weather-resistant enclosure. The enclosure is made of UV-stable polypropylene and features an aluminum grille. The speakers are magnetically shielded, so they can be placed on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture via stray magnetic fields.
To ensure flexibility, durability, and the best electrical connection possible, Yamaha has equipped the NS-AW1 speakers with gold-plated five-way binding posts, which can accept banana plugs and a variety of other connectors, as well as speaker wire. The gold plating guarantees that once the connection is physically made, the electrical connection will not degrade because of weather or other connections. The NS-AWI speakers come with mounting brackets and are decorated in a black, micropebble finish.

The upper end of the frequency range is handled by Yamaha's 1/2" pure titanium dome tweeter.
