Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
The BB-II 50-watt powered subwoofer is designed to offer maximum low-end slam for a minimal investment of money and setup time. Measuring a mere 15 by 9 by 9 inches, the 20-pound BB-II can fit just about anywhere--behind the sofa, beside the TV, under a shelf. Its overload-proof design makes it optimal for computer and home theater use. The BB-II dips down to 45 Hz, extending the bandwidth of satellite and bookshelf speakers a full octave below the range of most. The subwoofer's upper range extends to 180 Hz, letting it bridge the frequency range for even the smallest satellite.

The sub's driver is magnetically shielded to prevent image distortion when the sub is placed near a TV or monitor. Inputs include line-level (RCA) and speaker-level connections, with speaker-level outputs for wiring the sub between a receiver/amplifier and satellite speakers. The speaker comes with two 10-foot speaker wires and a single 6-foot interconnect (RCA-terminated at one end, with a .125-inch minijack connection at the other).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perfect match.......2005-01-05

Purchased a Onkyo micro system for my wife's x-mas gift. I'm happy with the sound and unit's quality for the price I paid. It was the cleanest sounding out of all the small systems I checked out, but the low end was not as pronounced as to what I'm used to. The plus with this system is there was a subwoofer preout in the back of the unit. So the search began.

I found this new on ebay. Overall, for what I paid for the Onkyo and this little power house, I received more than my money's worth. Grant you it won't blow the roof off ( my home theater downstairs can do that) but it will keep you dancing around the house on cleaning day. This whole micro system (including this sub)is only 90 watts, but they are clean well balanced pounding watts. My wife is very happy with her new set up. Her smile told me that I did good.

5 out of 5 stars A Nice Surprise.......2003-10-22

I recently setup a home theatre system in my guest bedroom. My demands weren't too high since it was not intended to be a "premier" system for me like I have in my living room and master bedroom (both equipped with much more expensive Polk, Yamaha and Altec Landsing subs). So, I didn't want to spend nearly that much on this system for the sub though.

While shopping, I came across this KLH BB-II for $29 each (closeout at Fry's). I decided to go ahead and buy 3 of them since they seemed to be constructed fairly well and they were so cheap. I suspected I would be returning them the next day assuming they would likely not sound very good.

I first hooked up a pair in the guest bedroom and adjusted the volume using Video Essentials as a guide. And then I put in several DVDs that I am familiar with (Phantom Menace, Ozzy Live, Elton John live, The Matrix, etc.).

What a nice surprise! I was immediately impressed. It's a fairly large room (20x25 feet) and the little subs made a tremendous difference. I was startled to hear them sound so tight and punchy without distortion and fairly loud levels. I can't say they were overpowering or anything, but I think that is partly the point. The fit in nicely and simply do what they are designed to do - handle the low end without being overt. They are definite keepers here for this room!

Then I took the remaining KLH BB-II I had purchased and hooked it up in my master bedroom - to see how it compared to the much higher wattage subs I've had in there in the past. I had even tried a 10" KLH powered sub in this room in the past and was very disappointed at the result (it sounded really bad to me).

But this BB-II model took my by surprise again. It may sound crazy, but I actually thought the KLH sounded better than anything I'd ever tried in there before. Better than the Polk, Yamaha, Altec Lansing (and of course the other KLH). I was very excited about it and plan to keep it there too. It just sounds smooth to me. It's not boomy or obnoxious. It sounds clean to my ears and I am very happy with my purchase!

Again, it may seem nutty, but these little subs really do perform great. They may not be the biggest and baddest, and certainly not appropriate for the extremely high-end crowd, but I honestly believe they compare favorably to many of the subs that are out there that cost several hundred dollars more unjustifiably. Just get them setup correctly and you'll be amazed at what they do for the price.

Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars A Lot of Base That Won't Take a Bite Out of Your Wallet.......2003-10-15

Instead of buying a single 100-watt subwoofer, I purchased two of these KLH 50-watt units at closeout for use with my Sony home theatre receiver (it has two subwoofer outputs). They work quite well together or even separately--they produce more than adequate base when used togther with my five home theatre speakers. With some base-heavy DVD 5.1 soundtracks, I've even turned one of them off. (Both set at near full volume are just too much for my smaller listening envirnment). Better to use them together at about half power, hooked up with a pair of good quality 10-foot patch cables. Doing so will privide a seemless accoustic blend for your home theatre, eliminating those annoying flat spots that are sometimes encountered, especially in larger rooms. If you like over-powering base, then setting both near full volume will deliver teeth-chattering performance without distortion, especialy if you put them in opposite room corners. One of these units is quite adequate for a modestly-sized living room type listening envirnment--like my own. The KLH Basbite II is solidly built and a very good value for the money. The best bang (or should I say boom?) for the buck I've seen on the market for a small subwoofer.

4 out of 5 stars Great Low-end ($) Sub.......2002-09-11

I have been very happy with this little sub. I had some trouble in the beginning, but when I adjusted my receiver, the sub really pushed the bass out in a relatively large room. Maybe not for the audiophile and it won't break any low frequency records, but a wonderful addition to a basic home theater system.

3 out of 5 stars Too quiet........2002-05-17

This was the cheapest sub woofer I could find, and it is a fine value for what I paid, but I was hopeing that I was getting a deal.

You are getting what you paid for, a little bit of bass added to your system. You will not be finding out that you got a bargian. You will not be finding out that at half volume it is as loud as you can handle. It'll be a very minor, but noticable improvement to your entertainment setup.
