I've owned this sub for over 3 years now and I really enjoy it. At first I had it behind a sofa and I really didn't get the full effect. Then I moved it to under a side table and it changed my movie viewing. I started enjoying those large explosions in space!

While this sub does not have an "perfect" range, it sure is easy on the wallet when you really have to have that .1 on your 5.1 system. My sub is attached to a Belkin power strip (that I never turn off) and it auto-detects when my reciever needs it on. Works great, but "chirps" a little to tell you it turned on. I don't mind it. My unit never had the "low hum" that other people have talked about. Wonderful for a shoestring.

I always dreamed of a "real" subwoofer...and I found it ! I coupled a Yamaha E-250 with the JBL PB10 and listening to the system is a pleasure every day. Whether it's Jazz, Rock, Techno or Drum and Bass, the sub can find the lowest frequencies. There are numerous control at the back to set it at the level you need. I haven't cranked it up to the max yet as books start to fall from my bookshelf when it's set at 2/3. At half volume, the lamps on the first floor shake...you better have neighbor living far from you.

I also own a Klipsh subwoofer for my hometheater but it doesn't compare. As for the humming sound, the PB10 as been in my bedroom for a year and i must be deaf bacause i haven't noticed anything.

I bought this sub about 2 years ago. It sounded better than the Polk and all other brands in the price range. I was happy with it for about 6 months. Then there was loud buzz... and then nothing. I got it repaired under warranty, and it was great... for another 6 months. This time, the speaker blew after the loud buzz that occured after my power came back on after an outage. I got a new speaker (after paying some nifty shipping fees). It was great for about another 6 months until... you guessed it... loud buzz, and the amp blew. I'm not about to try to have it fixed again. I'm surprise they gave me warranty coverage for the second repair. At that time, I suggested they just give me a new one, but they refused.

I've read tons of reviews on different sites, and it appears that SIMILAR PROBLEMS IS VERY COMMON, EVEN WITH THE PB12. You think they'd recall the things.

All of this said, if yours happens to work, it will be great buy. As for me, I'm never buying another JBL product.

I have coupled a JBL PB10 to my Cambridge Microworks (which produce decent bass down to 45-40Hz) and my listening pleasure has increase twofold. They produce good bass, as advertised: down to 30(27)hz. Placement of the unit is critical for appreciating them fully. I have owned various Hi-Fi speakers (including Bose 901, Tannoy, Whaferdale) and I can say that the JBL is an excelent buy -and complement -that I'm enjoing a lot.

I've listened to the pb 10 and own the pb 12 the only difference is one has a little more to it than the other, Iam pushing it with an Onkyo DS 797 it sounds great except for the low level hiss when the unit is off/ I have exchanged it once but still the same flaw but the hiss noise is soooo low it is not that serious.. But, I am currently thinking about switching to the velodyne foundation series subwoofer, to see if there are any mfg defects... otherwise a very solid performing and built sub!
