Behind is the 1996 debut album from this German progressive metal five-piece. They've got one of the best keyboardists in the genre (put Artension's keyboarder aside, he's in a league of his own). The guitarwork is well balanced and the drummer occasionnally displays some pretty tricky stuff. The vocalist, sometimes sounding somewhat Savatage-ish. Modern Music Records.

being 40 some thing i didnt really know what trance was but i liked the hit single dont give up so i thought id take a chance on this cd , it is a 5 star album in every respect and iam hooked to chicane now , the high light of the album is halcyon which is a musical journey which i wished would never end , all in all every home should have one

An album full of "Chicanery".......2001-08-18

The first time I heard about Chicane, was when I was listening to his remix of BT's and Paul van Dyk's "Flaming June". The track was good, but I thought nothing of it really, then listening to a Trance radio station while surfing the net, I heard a masterpiece from "Behind The Sun" called "Halcyon". This song was so wonderful, it prompted me to save up my money and buy the CD.

Knowing nothing of Chicane, even about his hit "Offshore" (I live in a really small town) I really didn't know what to expect from this album. Starting off with beatless ambience for a warm up, it changed to a stellar prelude called "Low Sun", setting you in a type of mellow jungle, this track sets you up for "No Ordinary Morning" which is a great song reflecting on lost love. Both the "Saltwater"s are great, although I prefer to jump right into "Halcyon", "Autumn Tactics", "Don't Give Up" and "Andromeda". Me, having heard the Thrillseeker's mix of "Autumn Tactics" and thinking it was the original, totally unprepared me for this track, starting like an alternative rock song, but then getting to the lyrics, with the great vocals of Justine Suissa. "Overlap" is a nice interlude between "Autumn Tactics" and "Don't Give Up" "Andromeda" is a semi-cool down song, but not really giving you the feeling that the CD has ended. Unfortunately for me, I bought the UK/Canadian release, and did not have the pleasure of hearing the Radio Edit of "Don't Give Up" which is the bonus song for the US release. Even though the original is better and I've heard the Radio Edit, it's always better to have the extra song. I hope Chicane keeps using his Chicanery in his next albums and that he keeps them original.

All in all, the CD was perfect, you know, one of those albums where you actually like ALL of the songs on it. This music was crafted very well with the melodies and countermelodies and so on. Chicane uses his unique Trance/Dance/Pop/Ambience style to its fullest.

I didn't know Brian Adams could sound so good ("Don't Give Up")!! Maire Brennan is angelic on "Saltwater". And the remix is even more tantillizing. "Autumn Tactics" (vocals by Justine Suissa) is reminiscent of Everything But the Girl. Tracy Ackerman on "No Ordinary Morning" is mesmerizing. I think the album just keeps getting better from first track to the last.

PERFECTION.......2000-07-04

I have just finished reading everyones review of this album, and im amazed at anyone who doesnt like this. This is by far the best trance album i have ever heard. The music is excellent for any occasion. Every song is Beautiful on this CD. My personal favorites are No Ordinary Morning & Halycon. I have all 3 of the chicane realeases and i love them all! But this one is the BEST! Its a must buy for anyone who can appreciate the beauty of music. As far as im concerned CHICANE is the best trance artist ever. and i can't imagin it getting any better then this. Another CD i strongly recommend is Paul Van Dyk - Out There and Back.

I must apologise to anyone who thinks that this isn't 'serious enough' or too 'poppy' but I was pretty impressed with Nick Bracegirdle's effort. By far one of the best tracks in this album is 'Halcyon' and is bound to do something this summer, I rate it definitely above 'Don't give up'; 'Saltwater' is immense and the ambient mix is brilliant for chilling out to. The question is whether this is better than FFTMC...perhaps they should be played at different times of the day?

I bought this in London on a trip and it seems that the release is limited to UK.

It's the same as the US release with a bonus track - worth getting. The packaging is also different (paper).

Since this is a import, you might want to go to amazon.co.uk and notice the significant "value" you could save if you order it directly from them!

The same goes for other U2 singles for ATYCLB that were not released in the states.

A Fan.......2003-07-02

I follow the theory that says you can't be a fan of the band if you're not willing to follow them where-ever they go(musically, that is). If you fall of the wagon, you're just a fan of some of the music. I am an U2 fan, I follow (and even WILL follow), but I beg of you : Don't start here. If you're looking for a jumping-off point for an U2 experience, one of the following will serve you far better :

It's U2, how can you go wrong?.......2003-06-03

In all honesty, spend the extra bucks and make sure you get the version with "The Ground Beneath Her Feet", it's one of those U2 songs that are never gonna make it to main stream radio, but is a real classic for people who actually listen to the whole album and not just the singles. ATYCLB is easily one of U2's best albums to date, it's a great record that will stain your life with memories and emotion forever.

"All that you can't leave behind" is not U2's best album - my personal favourite is "Achtung Baby", where every song is a masterpiece and every note sounds as if it were the best that could possibly have been chosen. Whilst ATYCLB is great, it doesn't quite achieve that perfection, but then, an imperfect U2 album is twice as good as many other bands' best. To call them "past it" is to ignore the incredible creative power of this group.

The theme in this album is change. Moving on, but being true to yourself. This is mentioned in several songs: for example, "Stuck In A Moment" and "Walk On". It sums it up really, for lack of another theme: this does not have the angry rock style of their early albums, the acoustic simplicity of "The Joshua Tree", the dark intricacy of "Achtung". It is an amalgamation of these, and yet none of them, but still U2; craftsmen of music, emotion and thought.

"Beautiful Day" deserves to be classed with the greatest U2 tracks - it combines subtly intelligent lyrics and fantastic music in the classic U2 song structure, building up into a euphoric climax. "Stuck In A Moment" juxtaposes a cheery gospel tune with tough but sensitive lyrics. "Elevation" is a cracking tune with an infectious sense of fun, although the lyrics are a bit too silly. "Walk On" is my favourite off the album - a classic, emotional swelling song with beautiful and intimate lyrics. "Kite" has truly great moments, although the structure is uneven (the tongue-in-cheek last lyrics don't seem to fit with some of the rest of it). "In A Little While" is a simple, sexy little rhythm; like another reviewer said, I dare you to sit still through it! "Wild Honey" is a nice tune, hints of country ... sounds a lot like a feelgood version of "In God's Country". "Peace On Earth" sets hard-hitting lyrics to a simple, soulful tune - it is reminiscent of a few songs from the early albums (eg. "October","War"). "When I Look At The World" is a sweeping, richly textured song with one of the best Edge riffs ever. "New York" is confident, restrained mostly but bursting into occasional loudness, with U2's more 90's lyrical ambiguity. "Grace" is not my favourite song, although it can be surprisingly enjoyable when relaxed enough - it had potential for more. Lastly, having heard "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" off my brother's "Million Dollar Hotel" CD, I held out for the bonus track, and I recommend you do, too. It may seem a bit dark and electronic compared with the rest of the album, but at its heart is U2 musical emotion and Bono's amazing voice, and the classic "building up" structure also used in great songs like "With Or Without You".

No way...."Behind These Hazel Eyes", along with the entire "Breakaway" album proves that Kelly is the real deal and that she has the talent and rock cred to have a long successful career. The track is amazing and displays Kellys amazing vocal abilities. Not only one of her best tracks, but one of the best singles of the year. The only thing better than this disc is hearing her perform it live...amazing.

This album is more pop-sounding than anything Lee Ann has done before, but it's still a classy album which is highly entertaing.

The bonus track on this UK edition is Mendocino county line, a stunning duet with Willie Nelson which has already been made available on one of his albums, The Great Divide. For approximately the same price as that quoted for this import, you could buy both the standard version of this CD and The Great Divide.

The remainder of this review is a copy of my review of the main album.

Lee Ann has recorded her most pop-sounding album yet, but it's brilliant. Lee Ann deserves to take most of her old fans with her. She will certainly lose some, but she will gain more than she loses, just as Dolly, Reba and others did when they followed a similar career path.

Perhaps the hightlight for me is Talk to me, a passionate plea to gain a better understanding of each other. When Lee Ann pleads for you to find the words that you feel because understanding is forgiving, it makes you want to do just that, and it's so true.

Two of the most unusual songs here are Forever everyday, which appears to be a song about re-incarnation, and Orphan train, written by Julie Miller, the true meaning of which I've yet to work out properly.

Elsewhere on this album, Lee Ann demonstrates her ability to sing everything from romantic songs to uptempo rockers, and the whole makes for a very satisfying listening experience.

Nobody should buy this expecting it to be like Lee Ann's other albums. Lee Ann clearly wants to be around for a while yet, and will no doubt return to a more traditional sound when the time is right, just as Dolly has already done. In the meantime, enjoy this album for what it is - contemporary pop-country of the highest quality.
