Excellent CD.......2006-07-20
Tango music seems hard to find, expeccially of such ggod quality. Happy to have found "The Best Tango Album in the World, Ever!", now to the dance floor!!
Leonard in Hemet, CA.......2006-04-20
I gave it four stars to encourage those who like to sit and listen to fine orchestras. This CD may be great for dancing if you are in the clsss with those who danced with the stars. My partner and I are early 80s and dance almost everything else. Then we decided to learn Tango. This album doesn't work for us.
with DEFECT.......2006-02-01
I RECEIVED A CD, THE TANGO CD( THE BEST TANGO ALBUM IN THE WORLD EVER) WAS DEFECTUOUS, SINCE IT PLAYS ALRIGHT UNTIL THE 12TH SONG, BUT THEN THE SONGS STARTS GIVING WEIRD TONES. AND THE 2ND CD ACTS THE SAME WAY, SINCE MY TANGO ALBUM IS A DOUBLE CD.THE PROBLEM IS NOT FROM THE RADIO, SINCE MY OTHER PURCHASE FROM AMAZON IS IN GOOD SHAPE, AS AL MY OTHER CDS.
THE MUSIC ALWAYS STOPS PLAYING RIGHT AT THE SAME TIME OF THE CD, THE 12 TH SONG, SO ITS PRETTY MUCH A CD PROBLEM.
I DUNNO WHATS THE REFUND POLICY, OR CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER, ITS SO BAD , COS THIS TANGO CD IS GREAT. I ENJOYED IT MUCH , UNTIL.........

My review is for ballroom dancers.......2005-09-15
If you're just learning tango and wish to practice on your own, this is a wise investment. You won't have to disrupt your practice running back and forth to your cd player to select tracks. You won't drive yourself nuts listening to the same song stuck on loop play. Basically, this is a good cd of classical, non-elevator tango music that does not beat you over the head with a nausiating DUM DUM DUM DUM beat. (Well, most of the songs do not.)
There are a few lousy tracks within this collection, but it has been my experience that with all cds there will always be tracks you tend to skip over.
Do not let the $14.99 price tag for a two disk set turn you off. This is good music.
Something is missing........2004-12-28
I got the feeling that 1/3 of the title were included just to justify the double volume. I would a smaller number of tracks but with more passion.

This was a gift and the receipant loves it. Amazon responded to my order in above average time and I will continue to buy through their website.
Not for the serious flautist.......2006-06-10
Most of the tracks on this CD consist of saccharine fluff, such as Disney, show-tunes, etc. If I buy a flute recording, I want to hear some serious music, not this ghastly schmaltz. And I hate to say it, I'm not a huge fan of Galway's playing style. It's too light and airy, just on the edge of going into overtones. He overuses his vibrato, especially on the higher notes. When you want them to just smoothly soar with rich tone, they just sort of flutter about. He does have impeccable technique and speed, but his tone leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. Seek out another artist!
The Very Best of James Galway.......2005-09-23
Really is one of the best of James Galway, if not the very best. Easy listening, soothing, relaxing - easy to enjoy
Lightweight.......2005-08-24
Admirers of James Galway as a superb classical flutist, of whom I am one, should be forewarned that this 2002 release has been packaged by the mass merchandisers for the "crossover" crowd and the mass market: there's slim pickin's here for serious music lovers. The first CD contains brief, lightweight classical "hits" in "arranged" versions, basically encore bonbons, while almost the entire second CD is devoted to ephemeral, forgettable pop fluff. There's not much of substance here; given Galway's vast (over 50 recordings) discography, the classical music lover would be well advised to look elsewhere.

The dates and facts surrounding the birth of Carlos Gardel, even his real name and nationality, are still argued about--more than 60 years after his death in a plane crash. But his place as the greatest singer in the history of tango is indisputable. Gardel not only nearly singlehandedly defined the tango-cancion (sung tango) and set the standards of interpretation. For many, he embodied the very spirit of tango--urbane yet streetwise, romantic but also tough, sensual but oh-so-cool. This collection, smartly selected and reasonably improved aurally, offers ample proof. North American audiences may recognize songs such as El Dia Que Me Quieras (sung by Luis Miguel, Julio Iglesias), Mi Buenos Aires Querido (Iglesias) and Por Una Cabeza (soundtrack True Lies). Gardel brings to his performance impeccable intonation, precise phrasing and just the right pathos. These are the definitive versions by a master at the peak of his powers. --Fernando Gonzalez

If you like tango, this CD is a must.......2007-04-29
Fantastic CD. Really enjoyed listening to it!
The best of Carlos Gardel.......2007-03-28
Brings back lots of memories, but the recordings are old and dated, mono and scratchy, so as memorabilia, is a wonderful compilation, don't know if they could have improved the end product updating and cleaning the original sources.
The Grandfather of tango!.......2006-01-10
There 's a famous Argentine aforism:"Gardel is like the good wine; everydays sings still better".
The tango is winter 's memory; unfinished happiness, indifference ' s smile, old livings and memories either pleasant or unpleasant. Single poetry masked by the collective stardom.
Carlos Gardel `s legend has enhanced through the years. His undeniable abilities and countless virtues, impeccable diction and stage presence gave the tango a special status that surmounted its intrinsic level (Borges called it once a reptile of brothel) and make the definitive leap in the good taste of every melomaniac around the world.
The tango as memory, nostalgia 's matrix, about what it could have been and was not. A musical genre that accounts the little and if you want insignificant anecdotes of unknown and crepuscular human beings; that revives those livings of our vanished childhood and youth; that reminds Mi Buenos Aires with the same sensation of desperate anguish interweaved with hopeless; the appropriate immigrant 's song.
A magnificent selection of Gardel , best known as "El morocho del abasto", where each June 24th of every year in many corners of the world a crowd of people gather with the only purpose to remind his memory.
Not the best sound of the Carlos Gardel reissues.......2005-02-11
Yes, the recordings here are core treasures of Tango. But the audio processing causes there to be resonances at certain midrange frequencies that are harsh and irritating. Better sound, and twice the tracks for 1/3 more, can be found in "Lo Mejor de lo Mejor" (as it is listed on Amazon --- the CD actually is called "Carlos Gardel 40 Temas Originales").
Gardel rocks.......2002-05-17
What can I say, Gardel was the king!

Placido Domingo is a phenomenon, and every aspect of his artistry is on display in this 2-CD compilation, which includes arias from his signature roles in Italian, French, German, and Russian operas, and songs from Viennese and Spanish operettas. The original recordings range from the early 1970s to the present and show that though over the years his bright golden voice has taken on a darker, more burnished glow, it has retained the melting lyricism, the heroic ring, the thrilling top notes, and the focused intensity that make it instantly recognizable. (Comparing the Verdi arias included here with their counterparts of later vintage in the all-Verdi set The Tenor Arias bears this out.) The program demonstrates his stylistic and expressive versatility and his ability to instantly establish character and mood, from Lenski's sorrow (in Eugene Onegin), Cavaradossi's heart-rending despair (in Tosca), Otello's shattering agony, to Tristan's passion, Siegfried's exuberance, Faust's ardor (first in French by Gounod, then in Italian by Boito). In three Mozart arias, Domingo spins endless, perfectly shaped phrases with incredible breath control, then adds an oddity: the famous duet between Zerlina and Don Giovanni, a role he has not performed. Five Viennese operetta songs, one of which he also conducts, are delightful; there is a smile of pleasure in his voice, but not a hint of kitsch. By contrast, Tchaikovsky's "None but the Lonely Heart" is spoiled by an orchestration that is pure Hollywood. In the final Spanish group, he is on home ground and incomparable. This is a glorious record, a must for all lovers of great singing. --Edith Eisler
Customer Reviews:
A great introduction to the art of Placido Domingo.......2007-07-04
Placido Domingo, of course, is one of the finest tenors of the latter part of the 20th century. This 2 CD set well captures his talent, showing the range of his singing. We hear cuts from Puccini and Verdi to Tchaikovsky and Wagner to Strauss and Handel. And even a traditional Spanish sung and some operetta thrown in for good measure!
This is a wonderful introduction to his artistry, and shows that he can sing well across a variety of styles and eras. Let's sample some cuts:
"Il mio Tesoro" (from Mozart's Don Giovanni) is a difficult aria to sing well. And Domingo is up to the challenge. He displays a smooth and rich voice. His is one of those distinctive tenor voices, like Tucker's or Pavarotti's, that is quickly recognizable. This is, as noted, a challenging piece and Domingo handles it well, showing off considerable vocal agility in the process.
From the same opera, "La ci darem la mano," a sweet duet with, in this instance, soprano Susan Graham. This seductive work is sung well by both parties and is a ravishing version.
From Puccini's "Tosca," "Recondita armonia." At the close, his voice rises above orchestra and chorus. Overall, well and richly sung.
And now for something very different. . . The "Forging Scene" from Siegfried. One may not think of Domingo as a heldentenor, but he does a serviceable job here. His voice sometimes appears a bit light, but, overall, he does estimable work. He catches Siegfried's spirit as he forges the shattered remains of his father's sword, "Nothung." When he sings the name of his sword at the close, with the leitmotif ringing out from the orchestra, it is an affecting moment.
Then, "Celeste Aida" (from Verdi's opera). A stentorian voice well deployed to meet the challenges of this wonderful aria. Some tenors scoop as they move from those lower to the higher notes; Domingo's voice is well controlled here. The final high note is well hit.
Strauss (Junior's) "Ach, wie so herrlich zu schau'n" is a romp! A fun piece and well sung by Domingo. He demonstrates, as before, excellent vocal agility.
Lehar's "O Vaterland" is also fun. It is a sprightly tune sprightly sung.
Finally, he ends the second CD with a traditional Spanish tune--"La Golondrina." He does not overpower this work with operatic technique. He sings it well and affectingly.
So, all in all, if one wants a good introduction to Placido Domingo's vocal oeuvre, this is a very strong starting point.
This is really the best........2007-05-16
I have many of Mr. Domingo's recordings but I really love this one. He seems to get better with age. Some of the songs are on some of my other recordings but they seem new and fresh on this CD. I really think this is the best of Placido Domingo.
If you like Placido at all, you must have this CD........2005-04-06
Placido Domingo has been around for so long, it is easy to take this great artist for granted. I totally agree with the previous reviews of this album; I can also say that I had the opportunity to hear him live in concert on April 2, 2005 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and his voice is still stunning. His opening aria that night was the prayer from El Cid, "O Souverain," which he dedicated to the memory of Pope John Paul II. This piece is the 8th selection on CD 1, and is from a 1997 live recording. His thrilling finish blew me away when I listened to it the first time, and and the crowd on the recording reacts the same way the Mississippi audience did when we heard him. That aria alone is worth the price of this CD set.
Rare And Great Domingo Classics.......2005-03-08
EMI's "The Very Best Of" series is a wonderful way for the opera lover/novice or even connoisseur in training to get acquainted with the great singers of opera in the 20th century. It is possible that in a few years, the great singers of today (from the 90's up to now and further into the future) will grace the album covers of The Very Best Of...The Very Best Of Renee Fleming, The Very Best Of Salvatore Licitra, etc. This is not exactly the best of Domingo. It is more of a collection of rare and wonderfully expressive arias from operas that range all over the map- Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Meyerbeer, Gounod, Massenet. Now, here's the reason why so many people adore Domingo, myself included - Domingo is a Renaissance Opera Tenor. He has sung almost every tenor role in the opera universe. Even if he is, to some, the "tenor who sang with Pavoratti in the three tenors" he proves he's the strongest of the bunch, the most dedicated, the most prolific and most artistic. Domingo has a beautiful voice, with secure high register and dark, masculine middle chest voice and exciting dramatic electricity! He's sung more than 50 operas, in addition operetta and Spanish Zarzuela (the Spanish equivalent to musicals or operetta which is where he got started and his parents sung in Zarzuela) and he has also recorded Spanish mainstream love songs for Latin audiences. A winner of Grammies, an actor in movies about operas that he starred in (Tosca, La Traviata, Otello) and the most active tenor on tv broadcasts, he is just incredible and powerful.
He is a great force in opera.
Even in his old age, he does'nt seem to be slowing down or call it quits. Recent performances (2000-2005) include Eugene Onegin, the lead in Queen of Spades, Rasputin in Debra Dratell's Nicolas and Alexandra, Idomeneo and his next role Parsifal. He is the singular tenor who mastered every repertoire- Mozart (Don Ottavio, Tamino...unfortunately Domingo as Don Giovanni is a miscast because he is too noble and romantic and GOOD to be a bad guy)..to Puccini heros (Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, Dick Johnson in Fanciualla Del West, Rodolfo in Boheme, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Calaf in Turandot) Verdi heroes (Radames in Aida, Don Carlos, Stiffelio, etc) to the French repertoire...Gounod (Faust, Romeo) Meyerbeer heroes, Massenet hero (Des Grieux, Le Cid) and Saint Saens (Samson) the list goes on and on. When this man dies, an era will die with him. His legend will live on because he will leave behind dozens of albums, movies and memories......
A real Bobby Dazzler.......2004-02-19
Fans of Mr. Domingo would be lucky to find a selection of music that more profoundly explores and exhibits the diversity of his vocal ability and interpretation than is offered on these two discs. Delicious displays of Mozart, ringing renditions of the most challenging high Italian roles, powerfully rounded accounts of some of the heavy German/Russian repetoir, and some noticably nostalgic songs from the light Spannish tradition provide an impressive catalogue of the great man's rich, focussed, technically impecable and singularly beguiling vocal talent. Those who are yet to form an opinion on any particular genre of the operatic spectrum would do well to start here, so eclectic is this album. Also, you might be reassured to know that, should you become an admirer of P.D.'s talent as a result of listening to this compilation, (it is difficult to resist), you will have no trouble finding other recordings by him. A record-breaker with more than 110 roles to his repetoir (40 is a respected total for an opera singer), he is the most recorded tenor in history, leaving more than 80 complete accounts to date of operas in the Italian, French, German and Russian traditions.

Eroica Trio, Classical Music Angels.......2006-03-19
The album, "Best of Eroica," demonstrates with heavenly beauty this group's musicality, technical skill, and deep understanding of the music they've chosen. This album is a "must" for anyone who enjoys piano trios and wants to relax surrounded by transporting sound.
Spirited style in a generous album--4.5 stars.......2005-12-09
This generous album (nearly 75 minutes long) contains 14 selections from the award-winning trio's other CDs. Thus, the range of music is quite wide. The artists (Erika Nickrenz--piano, Adela Pena-violin, & Sara Sant'Ambrogio--cello), though accomplished soloists, meld their playing beautifully. The Albinoni here is the shortest of the four versions in my collection--played with spirit. The Vivaldi demonstrates their virtuosity. I think the viola shines in Brahm's lullaby. The Piazzolla pieces remind me of the concert at which I heard them play; it was spectacular. Still, a few of the pieces are not particularly to my liking--though they are played well. Also, as a baroque fan I'd like to see some Telemann, Bach, &/or Handel. Most of the pieces are very lively--not too relaxing or useful for meditation--but great for listening. But then, as a trio, they are chamber music oriented. Still, IMHO the order of pieces on the album could be improved. Overall, it's a very fine album though I like the baroque one better--just a personal preference, of course.
Electrifying.......2005-08-26
I saw them live a few years ago, and was captivated by their group chemistry and technical precision. One of my favorite modern classical groups.
Better still, buy the other CDs.......2005-05-27
As a compilation, the ladies have selected a few cuts from each of their 6 CDs to give any listener new to the Eroica Trio--named in homage to Beethoven's 3d "Eroica" Symphony, not the crass misreading offered by a previous reviewer--a singular treat, and thus serves as a good first disk. But it is a sampler of sorts, and while I think that all of their CDs are good and worth your attention, they do range in focus and style from tangos to the Baroque, to healthy doses of Beethoven, Brahms and Bach--so suit to taste. The 5 star rating I give this CD is really for the larger body of work that this disk draws from.
I was prepared to have a mean rant, however.............2005-05-07
These ladies can play!! The chemistry and emotional fire is what makes up for the corny "Erotica Trio" title, but I ask you-what would you do as a graduating classical musician to get noticed today? Our cities are riddled with out-of-work and under appreciated young classical musicians, and it's partly our fault for not telling everyone about this great art form.
One day we may see a renissance in the musical arts where knowing the works & composers of the classical cannon won't be so rare- just imagine.

BARKING DOGS, WALTZING CATS, AND A RIDE WITH ROCCO!.......2006-12-05
Every year about this time, I like to add some new Christmas related item to my collection of Ammyland Reviews, Lists, or Guides. This year it was between reviewing The Jingle Dogs album, where they bark holiday favorites, or THE BEST OF LEROY ANDERSON, where the composer conducts his own miniature orchestral compositions, including the classic version of his original instrumental, SLEIGH RIDE. If you're reading this, then you already know that the annoying canines got the boot. And they ran all the way to the Spring of 2007 with their tails between their legs. "And don't come back! Shut them dawgs up, April!"
OK, where were we? Oh, yeah: It was in December of 1996 when I kept hearing this particular instrumental version of Sleigh Ride played on the radio station I listened to every day while delivering fresh squeezed organic juice to a grocery store or health food store near you. This was the most imaginative, briskly paced, and snowy version of Sleigh Ride I'd ever heard: the horses were clip-clopping, the whip was cracking, and I was bundled up warmly with a lovely lady friend at my side in this imaginary Santa suit-red sleigh polished to a high sheen after twelve coats of wax and a Laurie Partridge in a pear tree. (Yeah, I know I get a little carried away, but what are ya gonna do?)
Soon I was obsessed with that musical piece. "Who does THAT version, Mr. DJ Man? Who does it?" Finally, on the thirteenth day of Christmas, my DJ said to me, "That was Sleigh Ride - Leroy Anderson." I was about to yell at the radio, "I know it was Sleigh Ride, and my name's not Leroy Anderson!" when all of a sudden, the light bulb lit up above my head... in the same moment that the light bar on the police car behind me lit up. (When the cop finally managed to catch up to me, he found me at the counter of my local music store, paying for a copy of THE BEST OF LEROY ANDERSON.)
To this day, my four favorite instrumentals of all-time are MOONLIGHT SERENADE; THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS BE; BUMPIN' ON SUNSET; and SLEIGH RIDE. But not just any version of Sleigh Ride. No! It must be THIS recording, the one found on THIS disc, conducted by Anderson himself. I believe that Anderson may have recorded Sleigh Ride more than once, but THIS 1950 version is the one you want. Hey, would I lie to you about something so important this late in the season, and risk finding only lumps of coal in my stocking again?
Of course, there's other "stuffs" here that you might like also. As the informative liner notes say, "Many of these pieces have become part of the musical fabric of American life. Most everyone knows one or more of his tunes, though they may not know the name of the composer [*It's Leroy Anderson, remember?*] or even the title of the composition." For instance, there's BLUE TANGO, the first instrumental piece ever to sell over one million copies. And THE SYNCOPATED CLOCK, used as the theme for "The Late Show" on WCBS-TV in New York for over 25 years.
Anderson was incredibly imaginative and he composed each piece almost completely in his head. He stated, "When I'm making something up I never play a melody on the piano, because your fingers are used to falling into familiar patterns. You don't give your imagination free rein that way. In other words, your fingers are holding you back." I find his brief musical pieces to be very evocative. For instance, when I hear SUMMER SKIES, in my mind I seem to see images of Lee Remick romping in a bathing suit at the beach as if in a black and white montage from some classic movie of the 1950s. Or when I hear THE WALTZING CAT, I always seem to imagine a cat waltzing in my mind. THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING always makes me think of the first day of Spring ("Shut them dawgs up, April!"), and FORGOTTEN DREAMS always reminds me of... hmmm... I forget. But anyway, SLEIGH RIDE takes me for a ride in a sleigh in my wintry mind. And just how imaginative WAS Leroy Anderson? Get this! He composed Sleigh Ride during a 1948 July heat wave in Woodbury, Connecticut! OK? Uh-huh. That's what I'M talkin' `bout! So, what else ya wanna know?
For me, Christmas season begins the day after Thanksgiving every year, when I pull out my copy of THE BEST OF LEROY ANDERSON and blast the one piece of music that says "Christmas" to me like no other Christmas song does - this 1950 recording of Sleigh Ride. And I usually play the song at least once a day up through and including the 25th of December. Then I put the compact disc away for another year (after all, who really wants to hear about a waltzing cat? I mean really?!) Get into the swing of the Holiday spirit with THE BEST OF LEROY ANDERSON. Otherwise, I may just have to send Rocco over there to take you for a little (sleigh) ride... if you catch my (snow)drift.
Sleigh Ride: The Best of Leroy Anderson.......2006-03-09
Excellent CD. Got here very quickly.
Leroy Anderson rings a bell .. and wood blocks .. and .......2006-02-01
I have been a fan of Leroy Anderson ever since I played his music in middle school band in the 1950's. His classics were very inventive: imitating a typewriter (remember those?), a cat on a piano, a sleigh ride with bells and whips cracking, bugle calls, and so much more, most of it composed for highlighting specific instruments: trumpet, wood block, sandpaper block, pizzicato violin. Anderson is truly an accomplished, American composer. In this CD he conducts his own compositions. And the CD insert also taught me more about Anderson, the man, and his involvement with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Buy it, read it, and listen to it.
Wonderful Lite Classical Composer.......2005-09-23
Leroy Anderson was one of the best Lite Classical American Composers of the mid 20th Century and this CD won't dissappoint you. Taken from original recordings that Anderson conducted you'll hear the orchestrations as he wanted them to be heard. There's a mix of familiar and unfamiliar pieces that are all satisfying to listen to.

Customer Reviews:
good selection.......2007-05-11
my cds were standard recording quality
an overall good selection. It is sometimes hard to jump from different composers, but the cds flow well overall, an excellent way to catch a masterpiece you might have missed.
Bad recording quality.......2007-01-16
I bought this a week ago. I have never heard such bad recordings before. The first CD is the worst. There are loud scratching sounds, some songs are extremely hard to hear. Other CDs are better, but none are top quality. Great selection, but the poor recording quality makes it difficult to "lose yourself" in the music.

Not very good.......2006-08-03
Most of the music on this CD sounds the same. The recording quality is very poor.
Contemporary interpretations of the classic Argentine Tangos.......2003-01-31
Do you remember the great rendition of Milonga Triste from the movie The Tango Lesson? That was Hugo Diaz, and that piece is on the album "Hugo Diaz en Buenos Aires." That Hugo Diaz was a harmonica player, and the Hugo Diaz of Trio Hugo Diaz is a Uraguayan master bandoneonist. Harmonicas and bandoneons have a different sound. Don't buy this disk if you think the harmonica player Hugo Diaz produced it.
I like the instrumentation of the Trio Hugo Diaz. In a tango ensemble, there is a certain amount of improvisation and give-and-take between the bandoneón, the double bass, and the piano. The Hugo Diaz Trio does a good job in this regard. It reminds me of a jazz band in how they work together. If you consider tango to be a form of jazz, you already understand this concept. It works well when the band has a certain chemistry or "je ne sais quoi." You know it when you hear it, and you enjoy it.
This is the traditional tango music composed by Castillo, Gardel, Fresedo, Troilo, Martinez, Juan de Dios Filberto, etc. It has a unique sound. My first question: is it danceable? Yes, it is danceable. I feel that it is appropriate for salon tango, but probably not for fantasy tango dancers. The next question would be whether you could expect to hear it at an upcoming milonga. I think not. Although very popular in Europe, the Trio Hugo Diaz does not have a large following in the United States and Canada. Those people who are disc jockeys at milongas tend to prefer the tried and true old favorites. There may be a few of the arrangments in this disk may be considered by some to be a little too "jazzy" and non-traditional. I like it when people at milongas ask the DJ "Wow, that was great! What was it?" I like the variety.

Customer Reviews:
Even my kid likes this!.......2005-11-07
This is an amazing collection of songs, all performed with such skill that even my 8-year-old son likes this CD. Brahms and Beatles, Mozart and Ellington, there is something here for everyone. And thank you, thank you, thank you for "Bassoonist's Holiday."
Bassoon Me!.......2004-08-09
I delight in the bassoon! What a unique and great sound, throaty and thrillingly coarse, yet soaring to sound at times like sax, like oboe, like cello, like a bunch of bassoonatics!
This is delightful collection of musical styles played by this innovative and talented quartet. Choosing to select pieces that are not typically of the bassoon repertoire, we go from Waltz to Gershwin to Broadway to Motzart to Lennon/McCartnye to Sibelius to most of us unknowns such as Mitchell Clarke to Duke Ellington.
All played with passion and gusto and excellent tonality, phrasing and tempo.
Bassoon Me again!
Brilliant Bassoonastics.......2003-09-27
This would have to be the best bassoon ensemble cd on the market. The arrangements are stylish and clever, and the performances brilliant! Fraser Jackson must be the most accomplished contrabassoonist I have ever head. This cd is a must for any bassoonists collection be you amateur or proffessional.
OUTSTANDING QUARTET.......2002-04-14
This disc is really superb!!! Not only is the playing at an extremely high level by the group, the arrangements are also outstanding. The Brahms is abolutely beautiful. The group goes from lightning fingers bravura to sweet soulful singing. It is a joy to listen to again and again.
Simply fantastic!.......2001-10-26
I simply love the Caliban Quartet! They breath new life into bassoons! The way they bring out the music is simply magical. Not only do they sound good, their technical abilities are simply amazing!

Customer Reviews:
It's the best for my heart.......2007-06-27
Maybe it is not a perfect recording,
maybe you can find some poor sound quality (not about play itself),
But it's the best play for my soul.
I think it's the cure for your sadness. Not for happy people.
disappointing.......2006-06-28
Such a title should deserve better quality... Other CDs of Piazzolla are much better.
