You know what rock 'n roll is. You know it's somehow more than the sum of its thundering guitars, pounding drums, and soaring vocals. It's that pickslide that brings the song into a huge chorus. It's the wave of distortion that falls over you in the first five seconds of the White Stripes' "Fell in love with a girl."

Rory Allen Philips and Jamie Woolford have cornered it, and fed it through 13 tracks. Two of them are more ponderous (read: crappy) piano ballads, but those just make you appreciate the rock all the more. I can't recommend the other eleven tracks enough.

My friend Ryan first played this CD for me about three years ago and I instantly fell in love with it. It's a great power pop CD and one you should add to your collection. I was sad when I heard that The Stereo broke up but am glad to hear that Jamie (the lead singer) is going to release a solo album. She Would Never and Divine are my favorite songs. All of their albums are great.

This album provides 13 amazing tracks. From the catchy lyrics of "Devotion" to the beautiful melody of "Divine," THREE HUNDRED is an absolute great album to buy! Without it is like living life with no air.

This is not like Weezer. Don't ever allow yourself to believe this. This is Rick Springfield. This is Billy Joel. This is the Beatles. This is American rock n' roll. I know that some indie kids might be confused by this. Rock n' roll is not street cred. Rock n' roll is not hip indie labels. Rock n' roll does not need "-core" at the end of it. Rock n' roll is you and me. The Stereo is rock n' roll.

Perhaps I should start by admitting a bias: Many years ago, lying on Boston's grassy Esplanade by the Charles River on warm summer nights, I learned what a symphony orchestra should sound like, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. Those concerts were free; these seven compact discs are not--not quite. But for any lover of light classical music, they are certainly one of the best buys available. The orchestra (essentially the Boston Symphony) is one of the world's greatest; the music, from Smoke Gets in Your Eyes to the Goyescas Intermezzo and Ride of the Valkyries is instantly enjoyable and permanently valuable; the conductor is at the same time genial and exacting, convinced that any music you play, no matter how frivolous, deserves the best you can give it. --Joe McLellan

Definitly one of my favorite classical CD's....has a bit of everything, and it's all extremely well played and recognizable. I never go on car trips without it with me. If you buy only one classic CD (set), THIS IS IT!

This collection of songs combines a balance of environmental action and deep awareness of nature and the role humans are called to play as members of the Earth community. My personal favorites are "Expanding Universe" and "Lay Down Your Whopper" which I have enjoyed with groups of humans of all ages.

I have been a big fan of Dana Lyons's music since 1978, when I was a college freshman and Dana was my college roommate. (Ok, so I will admit that I am biased but ...) This collection of songs by Dana and friends comes the closest of any recording to capturing the absolute blast that audiences get from Dana's live performances. My three kids love this CD, and I do too. Our favorite song is Recycle Wrap, which we sing while we take out the recycling on Thursday nights. If you want your kids (or anyone else you love, including yourself) to have a CD of songs that are fun and funny (and yet still thought-provoking at times), get this CD.

item.I am sorry I cannot go over 2 stars as unfortunately there
is a defect on last track of the record, precisely on the song
"The last Rose of Summer".Anyhow I intend to buy other Deanna
Durbin's records as I enjoy very much her voice, but unfortunately the wallet is empty now.

This is a good CD only because of Deanna Durbin, but it is not a good CD for the following:

- It's stated right on the back of the jewel case that the source material used was "original 78 rpm records."
- The music is so compressed that there is no-longer any dynamic range left. I imagine the producers did this to eliminate any surface noise from the source material. But sense the source material was records you need to expect some surface noise, and to try and eliminate all of the surface noise is not good. Because the music becomes so compressed it starts to sound flat with no dynamic range at all. I understand these recordings are mono and not stereo, but there should be some amount of dynamic range to the sound. These recordings sound flat and lifeless.

Therefore, I do not recommend that you buy this CD look else where.

It's interesting to read the less than enthusiastic reviews many listeners give to fine recordings. In reality listeners are writing a critique of their own premature reactions to music they haven't spent enough time absorbing. Case in point is this excellent release by Brooks Williams. I too was listening to Knife Edge and Seven Sisters before I purchased this release. My initial reaction was less than enthusiastic. After letting the cd sit on the shelf for a few years, I returned to this music puzzled at my initial reaction because this has become my favorite Brooks album. The added production is very tastful and balanced and takes nothing away from the performance of these excellent songs. The guitar playing is fabulous as well. I find myself returning to this cd often. Another triumph for Mr. Williams.

This is a great album, merging various styles to create a sound all his own. Brooks is a master, and this album is an example of that.

From the slow and bluesy "Darker Kind of Blue" to the Johnny Cash inflected "Monkey", 'Hundred Year Shadow' may be one of Brooks more diverse musical offerings. Perhaps this is not only because of variety of styles he explores, but also because this CD finds Brooks covering a number of other artists, from the Beatles' "I Will" to the radio friendly "My Love Will Follow You", a track written by Buddy and Julie Miller.

More upbeat and less melancholy than its predecessor, 'Hundred Year Shadow' also features a full band on most tracks. In my opinion, this weakens the album to the extent that it lacks the sense of intimacy heard on 'Seven Sisters'. I must say, too, that the songs on this CD are not as memorable as those on recent albums. It feels at times like Brooks "light". Brooks shines brighter when either unaccompanied or when the accompaniment is minimal. This may have something to do with the production as well. So, while this CD is pretty good, if you've not listened to Brooks I'd recommend 'Knife Edge' as a place to start. And if you can find them, early albums like 'North From Statesboro' and 'When the Nighttime Sings' are also highly recommended.

      Someone told me that EP3 (I'll Find You) would be better than EP2, I did not believe them, but it's true. This EP is their best yet and it is a very hard task in itself to better their previous work. But they have done it with flying colours. It's hard hitting, melodic, catchy and uplifting. You'll be singing along to I'll Find You in no time, it's one of those song you wish you hadn't heard because you carn't go for longer than 20 minutes without sneeking off to listen to it one more time! Major cold turkey! The only problem is the length of the record, but it's an EP not an album, so there is the answer. The album is still to come...carn't wait!

      Their best yet, as hard as it is to believe, and a must see live!
