On their follow-up to 1999's Right Back, the Long Beach Dub Allstars continue stirring their musical melting pot. Wonders of the World combines heavy dub, shimmery pop, bouncy ska, and aggro alt-rock into a disc that roller-coasters between spaced out ("Wonders Dub II" and "Grass Cloud") and punked out ("No Way"). The ex-Sublime members also pulled in some talent from the hip-hop world, getting will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas on "Sunny Hours" and Chali2na from Jurassic 5 on "Life Goes On." Even with all the special appearances and genre-crossing, though, the Allstars don't crack the surface, covering the same ground that bands like Sugar Ray and 311are already treading. While the band does flow seamlessly between rock and reggae, Wonders of the World feels coated in a tepid, radio-friendly gloss that, despite a few bright spots, dulls by the end of the disc. --Jennifer Maerz

I'm Impressed!.......2006-08-24
I'm sure you've heard, Long Beach Dub Allstars is not Sublime. In some songs there is little bit of the Sublime style, but just a tiny bit; I didn't expect them to be Sublime either. I expected something totally different from what LBDA really is. And I like them alot more than I thought I would.
awesome album.......2005-12-21
When you buy this, don't expect quite the same as Sublime, but it's still awesome in its own right. Some songs are remniscent of Sublime but there's a lot more dub and reggae. I can't say the singer is quite as good as Bradley but he's still quite good and I love listening to this album on my ipod. It's worth the money just for "Sunny Hours," "Listen to DJ's," and "Lonely End" but the other songs are awesome too and this CD is a hell of a lot better than 99% of the crap they play on the radio. This is one of my newest favorite bands in its own right.
Pathetic.......2005-10-05
I Bought this cd beacause there first cd right back was great.
Theres one good song on this cd the rest suck.
Right back was nice and fresh almost like sublime this one sounds
totally diffrent its offspring meets britney spears meets sublime there vocals are okay but music wise they sucked on this cd.
All Around Mastery.......2005-01-25
Most people don't like LBDAS because they expect to hear Sublime. Long Beach Dub Allstars is not Sublime, but they are a collection of incredibly talented musicians with a wide range of styles. This album has everything, great songs by both Opie and RAS-1. Does anyone know if this album is out of print?? I'm not able to find any place that stocks it.
Best Cd In A Long Time.......2004-04-29
Lately, I have realized that not a lot of real good music have been put out in the past years. One day i was searching in the mall for a new cd i would want to try out. I rembered hearing about a band formed with some of the remaining members of Sublime. I found it in the store and brought in home. The first few times I didn't really like it. After a few times I started to like more. After like a month I would listen to it at least once a day. the cd starts out great With Sunny Hours feat Will I Am and Rolled up, both songs at least up to par with good Sublime songs. It gets even better with songs like Life Goes On, It Aint easy and No Way. The cd finishes a little slow with another suuny hours and grass clouds which is instrumental but still hits some good songs like talkin the truth and kablammin it. Exept for the two just mentioned, this cd is all A material and should be a part of any Sublime liking fan or any fan of just music. It doesn't get that much attention but is definitely worth it. plus it has an awesome cd cover.

Released just one month after the Surfer Girl album, Little Deuce Coupe was, incredibly, the band's fourth album in less than a year. Brian Wilson and the band responded by turning in arguably their most consistent effort to date--and a concept album, to boot. Deuce Coupe expanded the band's subject matter to encompass 1963 America's burgeoning love affair with hot rods, surrounding previously released cuts such as the title track, "409," and others with strong new material (much of it cowritten by Wilson and a DJ, Roger Christian). A highpoint: the a cappella James Dean tribute "A Young Man Is Gone" (a reworking of Bobby Troup's beautiful "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring"), a prime example of Wilson's arranging genius and the band's vocal prowess. All Summer Long was notable not only for racheting up the band's standards and essentially bidding farewell to the surf songs that inspired both their name and reputation, but also for going toe-to-toe with one of rock's most explosive phenomena--Beatlemania--and coming away victorious, with the single "I Get Around" soaring to No. 1 in the spring of 1964. Essentially another loose concept record (revolving around the innocent hedonistic pursuits of an idyllic SoCal summer) that takes its cue from the effervescent title track, it also documents Brian's restless creativity pushing the band toward its performing peak. Bonus takes include the superior single take of band staple "Be True to Your School," alternate takes of "Little Honda" and "Don't Back Down," and the slightly salacious outtake "All Dressed Up for School." Both albums have also been sonically burnished via 24-bit digital remastering. --Jerry McCulley

I'm not braggin', babe, so don't put me down........2006-09-20
This CD features two Beach Boys albums.
Little Deuce Coupe was the Beach Boys' fourth album. It features a bunch of their car songs. Four of the songs had been on previous Beach Boys albums. Most of the songs are very good. One of the highlights is the moving a capella tribute to James Dean, "A Young Man is Gone".
All Summer Long was the Beach Boys sixth album. It also has a "theme", of sorts, that being "fun in the summertime". It was the Beach Boys best album at that point. It features their first #1 hit, "I Get Around". Other than that, it features a number of other songs that are considered to be Beach Boys classics; including "All Summer Long", "Little Honda", "Wendy" and "Girls on the Beach". No bad songs, although "Our Favorite Recording Sessions", which features outtakes of the Beach Boys messing up, is definitely "filler".
There are four bonus tracks; including the superior single version of "Be True To Your School", the previously unreleased "All Dressed Up For School", and alternate takes of "Little Honda" and "Don't Back Down". Any Beach Boys fan should enjoy this CD.
An EXTREMO good album.......2006-01-02
This album has lots of their original stuff on it including their hit "Little Deuce Coupe"obviously. My Favorite Song is "Drive - In" on this album. I have an "opinion" about the Beach Boys... They're GREAT!!!!!!! I've seen a Beach Boys concert before that had almost EVERYTHING.... But all Beach Boys concerts now-a-days do.

On their sophomore outing, the Long Beach Dub Allstars display accomplished musicianship and stoned enthusiasm as they create a unique blend of southern California reggae, dub, and punk rock. Rising from the ashes of the now-defunct Sublime, bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh lead this seven-piece groove ensemble with resolute determination. Featuring the good-time vocals of Opie Ortiz as well as an array of keyboards, turntables, saxophone, and percussion, the Allstars shift from traditional reggae to hard-edged ska-punk with graceful abandon. Including an appearance by reggae singer Barrington Levy on the Sublime cover "Saw Red" as well as cameos by rasta-punk hero H.R. and Jamaican toastmaster Tippa Irie, Right Back is an enjoyable excursion into American roots-rock-reggae. --Mitch Myers
Customer Reviews:
not sublime but THATS OK.......2004-11-19
ok, for all you people saying that it sucks cuz its not sublime and bla bla bla...well. hm, maybe thats why they changed their damn name. if they were trying to make the same music as they did when they were sublime they would have kept the name. but they didnt cuz brad is gone, yeah that sucks, yes he was awesome but the rest of the homies gotta make a living so they kept goin on doin what they rock at doing. this cd is awesome, as is their next cd, buy that one too damn it.
moving on.......2004-06-21
the band that was sublime is no more. these cats need to stop expecting long beach to be sublime- which is utterly hopeless. it is just different with brad gone. as much as we all miss him and wish he were here creating wonderful music, his passing must be accepted. long beach, as far as i know, doesn't claim to be sublime. it's evident in their music. they have progressed and really are still an excellent group. you can't hold them responsible for brad or hold them to that musical style. you can still feel a little of the old sublime with long beach, but they obviously will never be the same. well, enough about the past...right back is a really solid album. i really enjoy this album for what it is as any one must do. you will not like it if you can't accept that it's a new band, so be open minded. A must have for any collection and i find it to be extrordinarily good in the summer time
sweet surf reggae.......2004-06-05
this album is awesome. if you like reggae/ska to surf to or just kick it, then get it. and if you want brad, then buy sublime. it's all sweet as pie. chill-
Sounds good to me........2004-03-15
Some say that this album is lacking because "the great voice is gone". They are obviously not Sublime, which makes this CD even better. I say "even better" not criticize or even compare. I say this because it is multiple genres of music, brought together to make a new genre. These different genres might have influence them to produce Sublime. Some people say that "The only thing they lack is the voice and songwriting of Brad Nowell. Ras-1 obviously cannot fill his vacancy, guitar, voice or presence-wise." That's cool to say but, they aren't trying to fill anyone's shoes. They have moved on and are still great musicians. I am glad to see that everyone didn't just go their own way. We are blessed that these people can obviously jam some funky as beats, that make you want to bob you head, and burn one down. The added elements of the woods and brass give this CD multi-dimensional depth. Also the drum beats, DJ scratching, multiple vocals adds great flavor. Sounds good to me.
Just not the same.......2003-08-14
I tried to get into this...its ok...but no matter what you just cant and i mean CANT compare them to Sublime...no one could ever take brads spot.I'm not realy saying he is...just who ever is comparing LBDA to Sublime needs to keep their mouth shut about music.

Customer Reviews:
Not Sublime, but good none the less.......2007-01-05
If you're looking for Sublime, this ain't them; bUT an excellent CD. A lot of really good songs, some mellow, some flow harder. Certainly would recommend it to anyone.
None of you have a clue.......2005-09-07
I am from PA and I saw three of LB Shortbus shows in PA and traveled to WV to see a fourth show. I have spoke with the band several times before and after. RAS-1 (singer/guitarist) was one of Brad Nowell's best friends and actually appears in the "Stories, tales, lies & exaggerations" Sublime documentary, and in the "What I Got" music video. Trey, (lead guitarist) actually was practicing with Sublime and they were planning on adding him into the band eventually until the tragic event of BJN's death. He also wrote the original "Falling Idols" song performed by Sublime and was in the band Falling Idols. Dameon (drummer) was just friends with them, and I don't know anymore about his history. Eric Wilson (bassist) was the bassist from Sublime and is now in ShortBus. They are excellent live and all you fake Sublime fans will be disapointed because you expect them to be Sublime when the truth is, Eric and Bud cannot make another Sublime without Brad; however, they still can get together with some good friends and create some kickin' music with fusions of raggae/rock/punk They also have a new dog after Louie had died, and his name is Fourty. He is a black lab. All of this information is from my own experience talking to the band members.
A great album that went under the radar..........2005-07-30
Unless you are a So Cal music freak, you wouldn't have followed the remnants of Sublime this far, but you should have. This is one of the greatest albums of the past 4-5 years. Just as the Dub All-Stars made great albums, this is a little different, more true to rock music. Buy it NOW!
a solid effort.......2005-06-30
do not mistake the lbsb for sublime or lbdas. they sound nothing like either one. you will be quite disappointed if you are buying this album to hear sublime / lbdas. they may have a a member or two from both bands, but the music sounds nothing like sublime or long beach dub all stars. that being said, it is a solid record musically. nothing spectacular, but a good effort that is musically all over the place in terms of style and influence.
Awesome.......2005-02-17
first of all Opie Ortiz, Jack Maness, Marshall Goodman, and Tim Wu were NOT members of Sublime. They were guests on some sublime albums. They were from LBDA. Sublime was Brad Nowell, Eric Wilson, and Bud Gaugh. Anyway this album is is awesome.

solid.......2007-01-18
this cd was a great intro to shortbus. they remind me a lot of SI SENORITA which most people don't know about but you can find them on my space. its a mix of ska and reggae blended with rock. e wilson kills it and the sublime name lives on with shortbus.
just buy it already.......2005-06-10
this is as good as any ep gets. it's an excellent intro for anyone interested in lb shortbus. although i recommend getting "flying ships of fantasy" instead or even better - get both of them (3 songs from this aren't on their lp). their live shows rock, anywhere between 2-3 hours of pure bliss. cool down to earth people that aren't afraid to talk to their fans, especially ras.
Its what I call good music.......2003-01-17
If you like any of what these 4 musicians did before they formed the band "Long Beach ShortBus", you will like this cd. Its down to earth music and you will agree with the lyrics and tap to the beats.Even though they resemble the sound of "Sublime" and "Long Beach Dub Allstars", they definealty have their own Style. DO yourself the favor and buy this album. You wont be disapointed.
Shortbus cd ....... expectations exceeded !.......2002-07-26
i wasn't sure what to expect when i got this ..... to say i was pleasently suprised is an under-statement ! this EP is amazing.
I have always been a big fan of RAS-1 & after hearing his work on this EP I am even more impressed.
Standouts for me are "California Grace" .... a great tune that alternates between mellow verses & a more "rocky" chorus. "Stray with me" continues to mesmerise me with it's multi-layered, trippy kind of feel ..... real passion in the delivery tops it off. Eric Wilson's bass lines are world class.
"Odd Walking Man" with vocals courtesy of Butthole Surfer Paul Leary tops the EP off for me with it's old skool LBC punk stylee.
The lyric "It's not about the junk i throw away, it's about the junk i fix" leaves me with a lasting impression of this songs meaning ....... this song is LBC punk at it's best.
the dub intro's are great providing even further proof of this bands versatility.
no, it doesn't sound like sublime or the long beach dub all stars ...... it sounds like shortbus ...... a very talented group of guys doing their thing .... and doing it amazingly well.
can't wait for a full length offering.
beg, borrow or steal this ........ just do yourself a favor & get it.
worthy

A pretty nice cd...........2002-07-11
If you're a fan of the Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sublime, or many of those So-Cal bands, I suggest you to buy this EP.
Don't expect alot of the usual Punk-Reggae-Ska style on the whole cd, as from you can hear this band, though this four-piece band borrows similar sounds from their roots, they add a new more rockier vibe to many of the tracks.
Eric Wilson fills in a pretty sick bass line for the intro and outro of this EP, which is also followed by nice instrumentation.
"California Grace" is a really nice mellow rock track, it reminds me a bit of the LBDAS song "Sunny Hours", but in a way it sounds more mature and you can hear some type of growth in part of Ras-1. Vocally, Ras-1 shines in this track. This track is one of the stand outs.
"Better Than This" in my opinion is the stand out track on the cd. It has some touches of reggae in it, but it also combines more of a steady rock vibe to it. There's some really nice guitar in this song.
One fan compared Ras-1 on "Take It Slow" to Bono from U2. Ras-1 does a pretty good job vocally on this song, this is one of the stand-out tracks. Though there is a touch of reggae, like most of this cd, it's more rock. It has a catchy chorus. All in all, a nice song.
"Stray With Me" is the calmest song on the cd. The song just mesmorizes you into a calm and collected vibe, it's a nice song to chill to. It's not one of my favorites, but it's pretty good. Not too much reggae in this track as well.
If you need your punk fix, "Odd Walking Man" is just the song for you. This track would go well with the next Tony Hawk Pro-Skater video game.
The reason I rated this EP 4 starts is because it's not close to perfection, but that doesn't mean it's not great. This is the debut release from LB Shortbus. Though the band might have its few similarities with Sublime and the Long Beach Dub Allstars, you can hear that the band has a different formula and I expect this band to come out with some really good releases in the future.
Buy this EP, it's worth it.

Truly Elo's live presentation........2006-11-04
GReat live perfomance, with Jeff leading the band, I would recommend this cd!
Why did they have to cut up "Roll Over Beethoven"????.......2006-09-29
I had this on vinyl as a kid and was very excited to find it had finally been released on CD. I was extremely disappointed, however, to discover they cut the second solo section from "Roll Over Beethoven," completely ruining the buildup into the last chorus - very sad. Interesting to note that someone went in and altered the original graphics of the inside foldout cover to reflect the new song lengths for the "restored full length versions [???] that were edited on the original vinyl" (check out the tiny type at the bottom of the center spread).
And yes, the sound was quite poor on the original and there's not much of improvement here - garbage in, garbage out. But one can still sense the excitement that could be whipped up by this particular version of ELO (with Mike d'Albuquerque on bass and Mik Kaminski and Hugh McDowell on violin and cello respectively). It's a incredibly fantastic performance. Hopefully, one day, someone will go in and truly restore this album in it's "entirety."
A cool period piece.......2006-06-02
If you're into "Turn To Stone" and that commercial ELO stuff (which I do like), this may not be for you. If you're a fan of early ELO you'll probably find it very interesting. Note that it is not a lot of songs, if you're used to hours-long DVD concerts.
The sound is OK, not great, but after all this is the Long Beach Echo-rena and in those days all the monitors were on-stage, not in-ear, so everything bled everywhere.
"Roll Over Beethoven" is cool although I actually prefer the "ELO Part II" version on Live In Moscow I think it's called.
My favorite here is "Showdown"-has a very Western open range OK-Corral kind of feel to me, a really nice version with an edge to the sound
Time for another review in almost 3 years!.......2006-01-18
If you ever owned this muffled mess on vinyl, you'll be pleasantly suprised by the sound quality on this new version. It is 100 times better! I've read an interview with the band, and apparently the truck with their equipment broke down. This put them behind and they never had a chance to do a proper sound check. The master tape that was used for the old vinyl version was marked: DO NOT USE - BAD MIX. Why it was still used, I'm not sure. Apparently, a way better mix of this concert surfaced and here we are!
One thing different about this new version, they cut about 30 seconds from the little jam piece between Showdown and Daytripper. It was always one of my favorite spots on the album so I noticed it right away and was a bit bummed. The funny thing is, four songs on this new release are supposed to be unedited versions we never heard on vinyl and then they gotta cut 30 seconds out of another. I don't get it. Anyway, if you're a big fan of the first three ELO albums or just a big ELO fan in general, this is worth getting!
Roll Over Long Beach!.......2003-09-18
I bought this cd in England and felt deeply in love this cd at the moment I layed down in the cd player. Its just one of the best cd that is played live, even with the sound problem it still good worth spend some money to own it!
Every single song its terrefic in the meaning that the permoformance of each song by the E.L.O band is not good its just EXCELLENT.
The cover of DayTripper its really good, as we know that Lynne was always a Beatles fan since always.
In the Hall of the Mountain King/ Great balls of Fire is for me the best song of the album, the instrumental song its just a classic song from Edvard Grieg that we heard from On the third day cd and the complementation from this excellent piece of art ends with Great Balls of Fire a tremendous cover of Jerry Lee Lewis.
Roll Over Beethoven, all the fans from E.L.O should already know that E.L.O in almost all their live permorfance loves to play this song, its just a beatiful song and no words to describe this master piece made by Chuck Berry, an old rock & roll song that will endure for many long time.
The three covers in this cd makes you fell that you should own this cd, also if you like E.L.O performance in a live tour, you also have to own, Wembley, Australia and others cd. And if you are not used to listen E.L.O lives performance, perhaps I should recomend to you the E.L.O BBC Session thats its a jewel for all E.L.O`s fan.

The Beach Boys' second album of 1964 (they released four that year!) was released at the height of rampant Beatlemania. But that stiff competition only served to push Wilson and his band to new creative heights. The budding transatlantic rivalry also effectively made this the final album of Brian Wilson's early sun-'n'-fun period--his personal introspection and insecurities would increasingly inform his work hereafter. That either dates All Summer Long or marks it as a time-capsule classic (more likely the latter). Wilson's Phil Spector-inspired production blossoms in service of such pressing concerns as the fun of motorcycling ("Little Honda"), seasonal fun ("All Summer Long") and the joys of dining out ("Drive In"). But the Hawthorne Hedonists also convey Wilson's romantic brooding on "Hushabye" and "Girls on the Beach," bittersweet reminders of how fragile their leader was at heart. All Summer Long now seems an ironic tribute to a simpler, long-vanished American ethos. --Jerry McCulley

America's #1 group responds to Beatlemania with a #1album.......2000-04-20
In the 1960s, albums released in America usually timed out at appx. 1/2 hour, with about 12 songs. Sadly, Capitol Records deleted the catalogue of Beach Boys two-fers, in favour of the original packaging seen here. As it is, All Summer Long is a first -- first response to the Beatles, first of the magnificent Brian Wilson-produced albums featuring all of Phil Spector's musicians, the Wrecking Crew, and first to really break the mould of only surf and car songs. Brian would
completely realise this non-fad album cycle with Today and Pet Sounds in the following two years. This album stands at the beginning of BB Phase II: Phase I was the surf/car records, Phase II inclu- ding All Summer Long/Summer Days/Today/Pet Sounds, and Phase III was the post-Pet Sounds, non-Brian-produced, collaborative period for the Beach Boys. Stellar production and vocal arrange- ments, catchy timeless tunes...what more is there?
Solid, splendid--one of the best from the Boys.......2000-04-13
A must-have, simply put. A friend once looked at the songs on "Revolver" and said "Is this a greatest hits CD?" The same can be said about this album. (Two-fer or not, buy it. It's only money.) Now check out "Shut Down, Vol. 2." Long live 1964.
Really cool songs that even teenagers will definitely like........1999-10-13
Any Beach Boys fan will love it and even people who aren't Beach Boy fans will learn to love it and will love to listen to it. It's really cool and up to date. Buy it and listen to it! It's really great!
Brain Wilson is a genius, what more do you need to know?.......1999-06-11
I'd hunt for a copy of the "Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer Long" two-fer before dropping change on this single album CD. It is still in print in Canada and you'd get more bang for your buck. Nuts to Capitol records for deleting the wonderful two-fer series. Despite what some folks might claim the song "Drive In" is not about "the joys of dining out" but actually about the joys of the drive in movie theatre!
Another Truncated Beach Boys CD, But Great Music.......1999-05-24
Of all of the major music groups, the Beach Boys are probably one of the worst served by their record label. This album was originally packaged along with the "Little Deuce Coupe" album, bonus tracks, and song by song annotation. Mysteriously, all of that is gone and we are left with a short single album, no liner notes or packaging, and no bonus tracks. This is wonderful music but it is frustrating to know that the original CD package is out of print in the USA.

Joe Pass- Blues Dues.......2000-06-22
This is another of the recent Joe Pass cds put out posthumously. The live cds that I've heard are incredible, and this is no different. Jobim's Wave is a great song to start off the cd.
