No, GERARD is not only a French-flavoured first name ! It's also the name chosen by the Japanese keyboards wizard Toshio EGAWA (NOVELA, SHEHERAZADE, EARTHSHAKER…), at the time he created his own band at the beginning of the Eighties. The beginnings of the band were marked by an elegant and elaborated symphonic music relying on the Progressive rock played by YES, GENESIS and friends during the previous decade. Issued in 1983, the eponymous album was the leader of the remarkable Japanese Progressive rock movement, that was about to start. GERARD's fame got bigger with "Empty Lie, Empty Dream" in 1987, and stronger with "Irony Of Fate" four years later. The omnipresent impressive and skilful keyboards have become a specific characteristic of their music since the co-founder Yukihiro FUJIMURA (Future author of the fabulous aggressive guitar parts in VIENNA) left the band. "Save Knight By The Night" was initially issued in 1994 under the pseudonym Toshio EGAWA'S GERA! RD. This was the occasion to discover a completely different group, largely influenced by EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and UK, giving an explicit meaning to the term "power-trio" ! The prevailing bass with guitar accents of Atsushi HASEGAWA and some amazing drum parts courtesy of Masahiro GOTO contribute to give that unique music an impact usually found in the best hard-rock bands ! The instrumental band features from time to time Canadian singer Robin SUCHY. "The Pendulum" was issued in 1996, and "Pandora's Box" the following year. "Meridian" (Mostly tracks from the first period revisited in 1998), "Live In Marseille - Battle Triangle" (GERARD was invited to perform in France during the Year of Japan in July 1998), "The Ruins Of A Glass Fortress" (2000) and "Sighs Of The Water" (2002) will follow. I watched the movie, and remembered it BECAUSE of the music. Superb !!! Exquisite combination of cello and oboe makes the central theme (and track) something to be remembered for your whole life. I really recommend it !

This, in my humble opinion, is one of Glass' most ingenoius works. Set to the athmospheric surreality of 19th century london, this album seamlessly juxtaposes traditional melodic harmonies with colorations that are distinctively Glass. I ould recommend this record to any audionphile or Glass aficionado

    Ian Pooley's "Meridian" is how every house disc should be done, with funky basslines, nigh-perfect melodies and relentless beats that scream for airplay on your stereo! Pooley's music isn't "mindless" house music at all--it's warm, sensual and inviting--perfect enough for a night out or in!

    I picked up Meridian because I had read that Pooley was an influence on some Latin bands that I follow. What Pooley presents is credible and journeyman House music. The grooves are intracate but repitive. I found thebands that Pooley has influenced to be more interesting than Pooley's own music. I have to admit that I am not a fan of straight House music. Although I do enjoy House-influenced music. I would recommend checking out Plastilina Mosh or Titan.

            Fou Ts'ong - described by Time magazine as the greatest Chinese musician alive today - was born in Shanghai in 1934. He studied in Warsaw, winning the Chopin Competition, and then settled in London in 1960. In recent years, he has performed again in China, and in 1998 played in Beijing and Shanghai, donating his fees to the victims of recent floods.             Defenitely taking cue from the bands that have spawned and taken from them. Like in eye of the storm keeping their sound but integrating what they have learned since. Symphonic with an shoegaze feel. (Red Sparrowes who have members of neurosis.)Now when i say shoegaze. Like warm layers of noise with simple fractured chords wrapping you in sheets. Beautiful stuff.

            Allen & Allen blend the mellow contemporary jazz flavor with both traditional hymns and new anointed compositions. I can dig it!!!! This CD is excellent for meditating or quiet study. I especially like "When We Praise". "Jesus, The Mention Of Your Name" also ranks as one of my favorite cuts. The Kibble Brothers, from Take Six, show up on one track, adding their unique jazz signature sound. Not quite as funky nor as bold as Ben Tankard, yet they do what fits them. Love Sweet Love is a solid addition to the collection of any spirit-filled jazz connisseur!
