    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best collection of Detroit Blues I have ever found.......2007-01-29

You have Baby Boy Warren playing with Sonny Boy Williamson on harp. Talk about Detroit Hastings Street History! You the Detroit Count playing Hasting Street Opera. You have 25 great obscure sides by John Lee Hooker, some of them leaving him a little exposed that I doubt that you have. In some of these sides. You have 1 entire CD of the oldest delta playing represented by Calvin Frazier and Sampson Pittman. Alam Lomax thought enough of Sampson Pittman to include him on his Land Where the Blues Began CD. Pittman could run that slide really well. It was a revelation to me that he resided in Detroit. You get some stuff from Joes record shop that is raw enough that if you had recorded it today you would not have bothered to save it, but because its from the Hastings Street of the 50s it is a cool artifact of the times and chaotic back room at the record shop. If you want to buy just one CD of Detroit rarities, man this is it!

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Better by the pound!.......2004-07-06

This cd is the ultimate, one of the best cds ever, yes ever. This compilation contains nothing but amazing music from start to finish. And it is not merely a compilation of 'hits' or anything of the sort because well, that's not what Funkadelic is about. This cd is unnapologetic to casual listeners and thats what I love about it. What other compilation would have the guts to kick off with Free Your Mind and Your A$$ Will Follow, a 10 minute free-form, acid tripping, insane freakout? None. Every song on here is tremendous and there are 29 tracks for about 2 and a half hours of funkadelic music! An outstanding selection. Every bit twisted, crazy, and insane as its artists. Remember to free your mind, and suck their soul for they will lick your funky emotions clean with a yard of tounge down your throat. They are funk, they are not of this world. The time for change is here and here they are, they're just for you, straight outta keep runnin mississippi. I can go on with quotes, but bottom line this is a must for any music collection (assuming you don't buy the westbound releases individually).

4 out of 5 stars Great Collection minus 1.......2004-04-28

Every cut on this collection is worth collecting. I would had like to see "Let's Take It To the Stage" on here, but other than that, it's worth the money. I recommend buying this with "Under a Grove [Box Set]" for non stop Funkadelic. Check out my review for "Under a Grove [Box Set]".

4 out of 5 stars If you like your blues raw & gritty.......2000-10-24

Harmonica Shah (aka Seward Shah) blasts his way through 10 blues numbers by various artists such as Jimmy Reed, Elmore James and Earl Hooker as well as a host of self penned (some liberties here!) tunes.

The backing band(s) are complementary to Shah's over the top blowin'. Tasty guitar work by Little Jr. Cannaday and Joe Mitchell along with three excellent piano men round out the sound.

If you like your blues delivered in a smoky, urban dive and served up with a shot of cheap whiskey, then you will dig this CD. Listen closely to Shah's rendition of "The Sky Is Crying" and you'll hear him turning on his bullet mic just before he rips off a gut wrenching solo. Pure magic!
