By turns mournful and mystical, these 14 Celtic lullabies performed by musicians from around the world give voice to the experience of mother and child in haunting, evocative folk songs. "More often than not," veteran Irish singer Nóirín Ní Riain writes in the liner notes, "a true lullaby is more indicative of the mental state of the mother than of her wish to lull her child to sleep, and so often her frustrations find a legitimate voice through song." Celtic Twilight 3: Lullabies will become a bedtime favorite, both for its lulling pull to sleep for baby and the numinous, soothing tones of old-country songs for parents winding down at the end of the day. --Stefanie Durbin

5 out of 5 stars Best Lullabies for Baby and for MOM!.......2007-05-31

This Audio CD is a wonderful gift for anyone who is expecting, it soothes mom as well as baby. I love this CD and play it often at night when I am winding down.

5 out of 5 stars Received unexpectedly and love it!.......2007-05-19

I received this as a gift from one of the artists. I am the "Christina" of track 6 - Alasdair Fraser was a friend of the family and wrote tunes for each of us as a thank you for hosting him. My piece was a slow air/waltz, but I never heard it performed until I received a copy of this CD from him.

Not only am I thrilled with the beautiful arrangement of "my" song, I love the other songs on the album as well. The music is wonderfully relaxing, and I look forward to playing it for my children to introduce them to Celtic music. I'm still a Gaelic singer, too...:)

5 out of 5 stars Great shower gift for expecting moms!.......2007-03-05

I bought this first Celtic Twilight, Vol. 3: Lullabies CD right after I had my first baby. It has such beautiful music, and is not some of the sickly sweet lullaby music that you get on so many other CDs.

It has been a wonderful ritual that we have before we go to bed so that my son can settle down and go to sleep. By track 2, he's usually snoring! I'm buying another copy of the same CD for my second baby so that she can have the same soothing sounds to drift off to sleep.

I would highly recommend this CD!

5 out of 5 stars Celtic Twilight Lullabies.......2007-01-15

This is a wonderful album. As is often the case with lullabies, they seem more for the pleasure of adults than for children. My grandchildren find this album quite soothing as do their parents. We all listen to the songs over and over and think it is very relaxing album.

5 out of 5 stars Love It, So Beautiful, Angelic Lullabies.......2006-12-02

I absolutely love this CD. It reminds me of songs my Irish grandmother would sing to me.
Ethereal voices sing Irish lullabies. The music is soft, serene and intensely rich. I believe this music will work for all ages from a newborn to 100+.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Blues.......2006-03-11

Fat Possum Records, a new discovery for me. These are raw edge blues songs. If you are looking for BB King, it's not here. They are played the way you'd hear them in a club.

The good news with this CD - Track 2 - The Set You Free, is one of the theme songs for Nissan Xterra that played during the olympics (the snow boarding version).

The other good news, for $7 how can you possibly go wrong?

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Blues Rock Compilation!.......2005-03-27

This album opened my eyes to so many artists that I wasn't aware of, who are apparantly making some of the best music out there.
The beautiful thing is the rock influence on so many of these songs that makes the title ring true. The Black Keys rock out ferociously on "Set You Free", which sounds like The Stones circa "Exile On Main St." Iggy Pop and The Stooges show up on "You Better Run",culled from a Junior Kimbrough tribute album. The old standbys like Fred McDowell, R.L Burnside and Furry Lewis mix with the late Charles Caldwell, who was just discovered before his death and stands proudly with the best on "Hadn't I Been Good To You", from his posthumous "Remember Me" album. Bob Log III's "Boob Scotch" stands with Clarence Carter's "Strokin" as on of the best blues party songs of recent memory."Vampires and Failures" by Grandpa Boy is one catchy song you won't be getting out of your head anytime soon.Overall great mixture of blues and rock that was unquestionably one of the best releases of 2004!

5 out of 5 stars As far as compilations go this really good.......2004-10-24

Fat possum is in the ONLY record lable that I am willing to support, so when it came out (which was on the same day as my birthday) I went out and got it. Some of the Highlights are the Little Freddie King track "Crack Head Joe" which has a guitar riff that sounds very similar to Junior kimbrough. Thee shams "You want it", and Grampaboy's "vampires and Failiures". Near the end, the album takes on more of an Acoustic feel. Which adds a nice break to all the rawer more electric Blues/Rock sounds. Overall this is a very enjoyable sampler. I wasn't crazy about N.T.S.O.B.C. 1, but this is much better.

    4 out of 5 stars Turning Point.......2006-06-27

This collection shows a change in the style for this label. The first two collections have a style that evokes images of mysterious places. I often used the first two to read books by Tolkien or brooks.

This collection still has some of that, but one can see a style where the music is less mysterious and mood evoking into a more mainstream style - one that is pleasant to listen to but evokes less "mindscapes".

The first four of the Narada collections all have something to offer. After that it became too much like muzak

3 out of 5 stars Lots of hits, lots of misses.......2004-11-04

This is a so-so collection of blues recordings. A few are great, with artists like Muddy Waters, T-bone Walker, and John Lee Hooker contributing some classics. But there are a few songs that were made famous by the Rolling Stones, and they sound ridiculous played in a blues style. Bottom line: this is worth getting, but only if you can get it cheap, and you're willing to sift through some duds to get to the good ones.

4 out of 5 stars Great mix of new and old blues recordings.......1999-07-12

The House of Blues label has done it again with another incredible collection of blues essentials. From classics must-haves by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and John Lee Hooker to more recent recordings by Taj Mahal and Luther Allison, this collection is calling to you.

Also have to mention that the album art and liner notes are beautifully designed and well-written.

Only reason not to give it a full five stars is too many tracks pulled from other HOB discs, but if you don't have them all yet, you won't mind.

      4 out of 5 stars Ballads.......2001-10-13

Another of the albums that Anderson recorded for Bluesville in 1961, it contains an interesting range of materials form his extensive repertoire. "Betty & Dupree" is a fine performance, as is "Sugar Babe", but my favorite is "Boweevil". Anderson's version of this classic cotton farmers' lament is performed with enormous gusto - listen to that guitar!

      An enjoyable album.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting tunes of a bygone era.......2001-06-14

I'm very partial to Pink Anderson because he's my homeboy from Spartanburg SC (where I was born) and i know his son (whose featured on the cover) very well. That aside, this is a good collection because it preserves some good ballads that are almost forgotten today. As well as "John Henry," I love his rendition of the "Titanic" song (Wasn't it sad when that great ship went down). Enjoy.

Due to the rough sound transfer of the original Paramount acetates and 78s, this third in a five-CD series is strictly for completists and historians. That being said, Blind Lemon Jefferson was at the height of his powers in 1928 and the songs here represent some of his darkest themes and most striking visual imagery. "'Lectric Chair Blues" describes a sentenced man "sittin' in the electrocutin' chair and cryin'," while on "Lock Step Blues" Jefferson bemoans the "big rats" in his prison cell. But there are happier moments like "Christmas Eve Blues" and the celebratory "Happy New Year Blues." Jefferson's intricate fingerpicking can be distinguished on these tracks, but it's his powerful two-octave voice that really penetrates the mists of time. Truly revelatory stuff if you have the patience. --Ken Hohman

Better than the generic titled 'Acoustic' series sounds, there's a lot here that's a bit different, a bit distinctive, from Beth Orton to Dylan covers, don't quite know what Oasis are doing here, but this is better than mood music. You can listen to it!
