WOW!! THESE DESTROYERS CAN ROCK HARD.......2007-06-22
I certainly found this CD great as these Destroyers are a great blues rock band and my favorite blues rock band along with ZZ Top, Bad Company and a few others. My personal favorites would be Move It On Over, Bad to the Bone, One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer, and I Drink Alone. For great blues rock fans, I would really recomend this CD.
George Thorogood 30 Years of Rock.......2007-05-18
If you like rock and roll. You will love this one.
Rockabilly All The Way - George Thorogood Style!.......2007-04-05
George Thorogood is one of my favorite all time rockers. The reason why is he was able to combine rock with a little bit of country. In essence: ROCKABILLY! I was raised in the South, but did not especially like a lot of country music. This CD has just the right amount of both Rock and Country music all in one great collection. I would not call it a greatest hits album, but most of George Thorogood's songs are on it. This is a must for your CD collection!
RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "ALMOST GREAT TO THE BONE!".......2007-01-28
This is a great CD with some all-time classic Thorogood, slide guitar masterpieces. Such as "One Bourbon Once Scotch, One Beer", "Move It On Over:, Who Do You Love", "Bad To The Bone", and perhaps the most intelligent, "tongue in cheek" "drinking" rock song ever, "I Drink Alone"! And other songs. Why then would you ask, would Shaq "The King Of The World Blues Reviewer", give it 4 stars instead of 5? Because out of 16 songs about 4 of them are not all-time greats, so that is 25% of the songs, don't rate a 5 star grade. Hence, 4 star, still really good, and you should buy it.
Old School Rock.......2007-01-10
Excellent Old School Rock. Makes you want to tap your feet and shake your money maker. Highly recommend!

a space in time.......2007-06-10
The best album by Ten years after. It brings back all the memories from late 60's/early 70's.
A Space in Time - Ten Years After.......2007-01-12
This is, in my opinion, one of their best albums. Timeless. After all these years still 100% enjoyable!
Still Growing On Me.......2007-01-04
I was never a huge Ten Years After fan but I did listen to them somewhat regularly "back in the day," as my kids like to say. I had this album and Cricklewood Green in vinyl plus a few cuts on the Woodstock Album.
Now my son is learning to play the guitar so I thought I'd introduce him to some "good guitar" in the form of Alvin Lee. He's not impressed with most of what I listen to but he does like this a bit.
I must say that I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do. The more I listen to it the more it grows on me. Almost every song on this album has staying power. If you like TYA at all this is a great album overall and worth the investment.
A Classic.......2006-11-27
What I like about this album is that it covers a wide range of emotions and feelings. Lead guitarist Alvin Lee was widely proclaimed as the fastest guitarist of his era. This album was pretty much mandatory in any early 70's high school rockers collection. I highly recommend this album for anyone wanting a taste of classic early 70's rock and roll. Really good stuff from a really good band.
Once There Was A Time...a space in time.......2006-11-10
A friend and I were recently reminiscing of a space in time before there were music downloads, mp3's, i tunes, and i pods. A time when vinyl was the musical medium . Albums contained liner notes and lyric sheets that were printed large enough to read. Cover Art was captivating and meant to be enjoyed. Songs were heard as being just a smaller segment of a larger collection of work. You dropped the needle, sat down and took it in from start to finish. Like a great movie, you wouldn't dare leave before the end. Every song set up the next one. The music was the event of that moment in time, not a wallpaper back drop. 'A Space In Time' is of that time, yet after 35 years it has stood the test. Timeless.

Vanessa.......2007-05-06
Vanessa Williams has long been one of my favorite singers and entertainers out there and this compilation is a great example why. Featuring the now-classic pop ballad "Save The Best For Last" and the Oscar-winning "Colors Of The Wind" (which is my personal favorite on the album), among other hits, the album is an absolute winner. As for Vanessa herself, you just can't help but be captivated by her sheer beauty and talent (currently co-starring on "Betty"), I simply adore this woman. After all the turmoil she had to go through in the beginning of her career, she just started from scratch all over again and she did it in such an honorable way. She's a true role model - for everyone.
Good collection @}->---.......2006-02-11
I really like Vanessa Williams and over the years she has had a couple of big songs here and there. Some of the ones on this cd were never huge hits, but to her fans, we know them well. My personal favourites here are Betcha Never (a bit latin-ish and fun), Sweetest Days and Save The Best For Last. That song is now a bit of an anthem. She doesn't have the most powerful voice in the world, but it's pretty and her music is really beautiful. Maybe for fans only. I just wished she'd really come back with some new big hits.
Some very good, some less so.......2005-09-22
This CD has three great songs: Love Is, Save the Best for last, and Dreamin'. The rest of the songs are just OK. This is why it just doesn't pay to buy CD's. I can't recommend purchasing the whole CD just for three songs.
Just OK.......2005-08-18
I bought this CD in order to get a few of the "big hits," and that's what I got--no more, no less, as most of the other songs are just so-so.
LOVE IT!!.......2005-08-10
I grew up during the 80s and I am a big fan, so I enjoyed each song in this CD

PURE BLUES Ten Years After.......2007-04-04
Could not believe how GREAT this cd was!! Anyone who loves the blues and ten years after should have this cd!!
True Blue.......2007-03-11
True to the title this is Alvin's & (&TYA's) bluest...excellent,throughout. Tracks chosen from past works as well as newer compositions, I think were/are Great choices. My only beef is that more and more people are not aware of the magnificent musicianship of Ten Years After and,of course, Alvin Lee's genius. ...keep playin' on guys there are some of us who live for and appreciate your efforts...a true masterwork or as the French would say a chef-d'oeuvre... WOAH!!!
Peace!!
you can name all the styles, but the real style is Alvin Lee.......2007-03-11
I can see, (hear), now that Lee does indeed use blues, rock, jazz, and rockabilly in his style, after reading mentions of this, but none of this ever occurred to me when I first began listening to him, c.1967. Lee has put all of these influences into seamless personal style that is most accurately communicated by simply calling it "Alvin Lee".
possumsmcbikeritems.......2007-01-10
Mainly for the Alvin Lee or Ten Years After collector, saying that there is some good rockin' and slow blues, but has the same music on it as some others.
Satisfaction guaranteed.......2006-11-10
If you've missed Alvin Lee as I have you will not be disappointed. And having George Harrison playing on a couple of cuts is an added bonus.

Customer Reviews:
Long Time Looking - Awesome.......2007-01-10
I had been looling for the Climax Blues Band on CD for a long time, having had them in every other format (including 8 track). Finding this compilation showed the evolution from their blues roots to the pop/rock format of the early '80s. I think they were terrfic in everything they did.
Climax Blues Band - bringing back memories.......2007-01-10
This is a great album for those of us who grew up in the 70's - takes you back to a much simpler time.
Teach Your Children (to learn their bands!).......2006-10-22
In 1975 I was at a friend's house when he played an import album on the Harvest label called Climax Chicago/Tightly Knit. I was immediately hooked and that album remains one of the top five of my all time fav's. That album and the follow up F.M Live showcase on of the best muti-instrumentalist Blues bands of all time period! Listen to Derick Holt's slide solo piece "County hat" on the Live album and it's clear your hearing one of the best (and definitely the most overlooked)slide guitarist to ever wear the bottle . When I read reviews where people base their opinion of this band on the throw away "money grab" song I Love You it makes me want to stick my head in an oven! This song is Air Supply-ish gooey crapola that doesn't deserve to be mentioned in a serious discussion of this band and was probably written to pay off some lawyer or something! There's a reason you don't hear Paul McCartney playing Yesterday live anymore people! File that stuff under Mr.Phyliss's Chic Flick compilations and let's move on! Disco and apparently corporate greed killed this band with Gold Plated being their true swan song. Buy Tightly Knit, A lot of Bottle, F.M Live and this collection IN THAT ORDER! I promise you will be a better educated and much happier consumer (and fan!)
Good quality sound, but not up to par.......2006-06-21
Let me start by saying I'm not an avid fan of Climax, or the Climax Blues Band. But I really enjoyed a few of their songs. Unfortunately, this was the only CD (set) that had one of those songs. I figured, what the heck, I'll see if I like anything else they've done. I did! Unfortunately, all you get is 2 CD's. No inserts. No background on the band. Nothing. Just 2 CD's. For what you have to pay for these 2 CD's, I really thought there'd be more. Just a little disappointed.
passe.......2005-11-06
The album is the same old same old. Generic blues from a group that should not be generic.Buy at your own risk. There are many more new artists out there that your dollar will be well spent.

Album Description
Maria Muldaur's musical style defies definition. She's conquered jazz, blues, country, folk, gospel and rock, while shaking the tambourine with Jerry Garcia and blending vocals with Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Aaron Neville, Dr. John and Charles Brown. She spent time as a member of the Even Dozen Jug Band and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band before going solo. This collection spans the last 30 years, featuring audience and personal favorites, picked by Muldaur herself. She includes track-by-track commentary in the liner notes, offering special memories and anecdotes for each of the CD's 19 tracks. Forty years into her career, Maria Muldaur continues to tour and release new material.
Customer Reviews:
Serious Blast From The Past.......2007-01-16
Maria Muldar began with Jim Kweskin's Jug Band. She sang that in the Jug Band. She improved on her own, she had attitude. I appreciate that. Carolyn
gift.......2007-01-10
because this was a gift I don't know how good the cd was but it was delivered in good shape and on time
Let this woman lead the Second Line Parade.......2006-11-11
I have appreciated this woman's voice for more than the thirty years she has been recording. It is regrettable that she hasn't received the attention she deserves for her body of work, but that is just the luck of being an artist who chooses the best work for herself truly. She is ecclectic in her choices, ranging from New Orleans, LA to Nashville/Memphis, TN to New York City, NY. The album 'Maria Muldaur's 'Midnight At The Oasis' was my introduction to her and was a pop hit in the mid-70s and it also had on it Dolly Parton's 'My Tennesee Mountain Home'. Two songs of such distinct style differences that gave my fifteen year old mind wonderful posibilities. On this retrospective, there are the contributions of Doctor John, the Neville Brothers, Peggy Lee, Brother Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, JJ Cale, Ry Cooper, Bonnie Riatt, Mavis Staples, The Chambers Brothers, Benny Carter, and too many more. Because of Ms Mudaur, I have since listened to and become a fan of many almost forgotten greats like Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith, and Hoagy Carmichael. I have seen people try to catagorize the music of this woman, but she is more than the Blues, or Gospel, or Pop, or whatever you try to file her under - other than Favorite.
This has all of Maria's best songs........2006-02-28
I bought this as a gift for my husband. He is very pleased with the CD, good sound and good content. Most if not all of Maria's most famous songs are on the CD. The only criticism would be that the CD jewel case was quite cheap, and it was especially difficult to remove the CD. He just put the CD in one of my clear jewel cases and works fine now.
Superb overview of her distinguished career.......2004-11-19
If all you know by Maria is Midnight at the Oasis or if all you have is an album or two, you're in for a treat. This collection collects the cream of her long career and puts it in one package. If you've ever seen her perform live, then you'll know many of these songs, because these are the ones that form the core of her stage act. If you're a fan of the blues, gospel, soul, and country--not to mention straight-up pop--you will love Maria Muldaur, and this CD is the perfect introduction. Get it while you can!

With its devotion to '50s rock and blues coupled to a manic, if decidedly middlebrow performance tack, Ten Years After could seem positively Jurassic, even by late-'60s standards. This collection culls magnificently recorded performances (kudos to Hendrix/ELP engineer Eddie Kramer) from a February 1970 weekend stand at the Fillmore East, capturing the band at its post-Woodstock performing peak. The running times of most of the tracks (three-quarters of which clock in at seven-plus minutes) will tip listeners to the show's jam-heavy take on covers of Sonny Boy Williamson (an ominous, revamped "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"), Willie Dixon (a slow, 16-minute burn through "Help Me"), and Chuck Berry (atypically economic romps of "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Roll Over Beethoven"). But with the band's own primordial originals (the titles "Skooby-Oobly-Doobob" and "Extension on One Chord" speak for themselves) there's an elemental, effusive--and, dare we say it--Ramones-like stoopidity to the tracks. Even Alvin Lee's trademark fret-burner "I'm Going Home" is hard to resist. This set perfectly captures one of the era's hardest working bands in a concise, double-disc time capsule. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
I just spent seven bucks too much for this.......2007-05-02
which really, really bites. The sound quality is great. The band is tight. Just keep in mind that Alvin Lee has one solo that he plays in every frickin' number the band does. You'll know it when you hear it, trust me. The songs themselves are great, and of course Lee is a tremendous guitarist, but Ritchie Blackmore he ain't. Still, if you were to make a choice between this and "Recorded Live," take this. I've always thought "Recorded Live" sounded uninspired, mostly. This has got many of the same pieces, but done better. You don't get "Choo Choo Mama," but you get a much better "Hobbit" and an "I can't keep from crying" that doesn't sound like it was recorded under a bathtub full of water.
edicion MUY, MUY recomendable!!.......2007-03-02
How Alvin Lee should be heard.......2007-01-09
Alvin Lee had his own sound and if you are old enough to remember it, get this cd and remember the high--if you have never heard Alvin Lee on guitar you are missing the rocker before Mark Knofler. They even due spoonful.
Ten Years After - 'Live At The Fillmore East' (Capitol) 2-CD.......2006-12-04
Fantastic two disc archive live release from a true music legend, the British blues rockers Ten Years After. 'Live At The...' took place over a two-night stand on September 27-28,1968.My only regret is not ONLY wasn't I there myself, but I've never seen these guys play live.Twelve track concert, with a duration of a little under two hours. You can't go wrong by picking up a copy of this title. Sound quality is great. Also priced pretty nice. Most memorable cuts are "Love Like A Man", "50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain" (one of my personal favorites), the bluesy (also fun)"Skoobly-Oobly-Doobob", "I'm Going Home", "I Woke Up This Morning" and their two Chuck Berry covers, "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Roll Over Beethoven". Would make a great gift for an old school fan. Highly recommended.
Ten Years After Live.......2005-12-23
This is one of the best live albums that I have. Alvin Lee is one of the must unterrated lead players in the world. His solo on HELP ME is simply the best the speed that he plays some on some of the songs is breath taking. Their verson of SPOONFUL is better then CREAM did on their live album. You can't go wrong buying this album. Also I would compare Alvin Lee's lead playing to Jimmi Hendrix and Eric Clapton any time He is one of the best in the world.

The best of the best!.......2007-07-09
This 2001 Tower of Power anthology spans the period between 1972 and 1976, during which they were signed to Warner Records. The albums represented include 1972's Bump City, 1973's Tower of Power, 1974's Back to Oakland, and 1975's In the Slot and Urban Renewal. These albums are widely considered the best TOP ever recorded, and this collection is a well-selected compilation of the best of these fine albums. During this period, Oakland's Tower of Power set themselves apart from the budding west coast music scene with their brand of soulful funk (or funky soul, whichever you prefer). Most famous was their incredibly tight horn section, which had as many as six players and full instrumentation. Besides being a vastly talented section, these players play so well together and their chemistry makes them a joy to listen to. The rhythm and percussion section is also very talented, so musically Tower of Power is just awesome on this disc. During this period, Tower of Power had two lead vocalists. On the earlier albums, the competent Rick Stevens was the singer, before being replaced by the wonderful Lenny Williams in 1973. Williams is very entertaining. Besides being a really gifted vocalist, he is so much fun because of his yelling and performance, you can tell he's having fun too. His voice has great range and versatility, and he brings a lot of soul and even gospel influence to the group. The tracklist is very well selected, and it is done in chronological order, so you can watch the band's progression. There's a nice balance of pure upbeat funk tracks and their signature slow jams. Tower of Power songs are all so well written and produced, and this record is a perfect example. I highly recommend "The Very Best of Tower of Power: The Warner Years" to all.
The compilation kicks off with a bang, the blasting "You Got to Funkafize," showcasing the awesomely powerful horn section. "What Happened to the World That Day?" is a heartfelt love song, Rick Stevens' influence is pretty clear on these earlier tracks. "Down to the Nightclub" was their first big hit, a swinging party song. "You're Still a Young Man" is another solid early-70s slow jam. "What Is Hip?" is their best known song, musically incredible, with a gorgeous arrangement for the funk guitar and horns. Lenny Williams also lends one of his finest performances ever on this song. "So Very Hard to Go" is among my favorites, an inspired love song, and "This Time It's Real" is also very appealing, a happy and hopeful ode. The slow "Will I Ever Find a Love?" precedes the awesome "Soul Vaccination," a fast and funky cut from the same mold as "What Is Hip?," but maybe even better. "Time Will Tell" and "Below Us All the City Lights" are both fine examples of TOP's range and versatility, and "Don't Change Horses (In the Middle of a Stream)" is a pumped up, swinging number. The slow, well-produced songs "Willing to Learn" and "I Won't Leave Unless You Want Me To" are split by the unforgettable "Only So Much Oil in the Ground," with the soaring horn cadence and Williams' wild vocals. The collection closes with the inspired "You're So Wonderful, So Marvelous."
One thing I love about Tower of Power's 1970s discography is that unlike so much music from that era, it really doesn't sound dated at all even today. Their music is so unique, well-produced, and exhibiting talent that the sound is timeless. For anyone who's a new listener or was a fan back in the day, "The Very Best of Tower of Power: The Warner Years" is a must have in the collection.
Not so faulty Tower.......2007-01-09
A bit dated, but I'm such a screaming fan I'd take recordings from when they were all in diapers!
You want to know the truth in life..........2006-06-24
...don't pass Tower of Power by. This band is smokin.' They have it all, great vocals, great compositions, great horns and arrangements. I would have loved to see Man From The Past on this one, but overall a very solid collection. So Very Hard To Go is top notch material - one of my all time favorites and they have so many great tunes - Below Us All The City Lights, Down To The Nightclub, What Is Hip, This Times It's Real, Only So Much Oil. Easily one of the best bands from the 70's. Got to have this one!
I would give it 6 stars if I could .......2005-11-02
This band is one of the greatest bands of all-time, and most people don't even know it. Their Top Ten songs are:

2. "Down to the Night Club."
3. "Soul Vaccination".
4. "Only so much Oil in the Ground".
5. "Your still a Young Man".
6. "Diggin' on James Brown".
7. "Clever Girl".
8. "Attitude Dance".
9. "Oakland Zone".
10. "Page One".
Tower of Power: Live they are far better.......2005-06-26
Hallo Folks. I went to two concerts of TOP in the previous years in Holland, One time outdoor for the North Sea Jazz Fetival in The Hague and one time In Paradiso, in Amsterdam. I like TOP live far better than their album recordings. So for me the best CD is TOP live. This contains all their best hits, which are played more free, open and are recorder with much more base and a clearer sound. If you are a new fan, or a a huge fan, I would recommend the Live CD.

With their feel-good humanism, uniquely rural perspective, and melodic blend of funk and rap, Arrested Development seemed like the next big thing in 1992. The group hailed from Atlanta, which was not then a capital of hip-hop and R&B, and this, their debut recording, won the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop critics poll. Speech, the primary lyricist, wrote and delivered eloquent attacks on gangsta rap's mindless nihilism: the band's first hit, "Tennessee," spoke of reclaiming Southern black traditions from the racism that sullied their memory, while their second, "People Everyday," deftly updated the Sly Stone classic. Although Speech's rapping style was not distinctive, Dionne Farris's keening vocals highlighted the band's front line. Unfortunately, Speech began to run short of ideas and the band failed to maintain the high standards that this debut set. They disbanded a few years later. --Martin Johnson

Bring this stuff back...........2006-11-28
How refreshing to hear this kind of positive hip-hop, when the most of the world is drunk on the toxic garbage of 50-cent, P-Diddy, Ludacris, and Jay-Z.
There was a time when hip-hop showed promise by having intelligent lyrical content and thought-provoking introspection set to creative and original music from groups like Arrested Development.
When Ice-T was doing his morally-bankrupt "Cop-Killa" vomit, and Bone-Thugz-n-Harmony were glorifying the "gangsta" mentality that by now has been adopted into much of the hip-hop genre, A.D. was trying to send a different message. That women are NOT objects of marital infidelity and are not sex toys that you "hook up" with at the local clubs. And that Black culture is not about bling, blunts and "bitches". There are more beautiful, traditional and wholesome things to be proud of that sadly get thrown to the side for the more provocative and fleeting racy tripe that fills the screens of BET and MTV.
Standout tracks are Tennesee, Give a Man a Fish, People Everyday and Mr. Wendall.
If you're tired of the "Yo Dawg...spark up dat splif, grab my gat, and get-cho-freak-on" trash of today's rap/hip-hop scene, I recommend you check these guys out. It's much more satisfying (and edifying).
Great CD.......2006-07-31
I am a big fan and really enjoy this CD. It was great on my drive from PA to N'awlins.

The Most Innovative Group From Atlanta (5 stars).......2006-06-26
Before Outkast, Goodie Mob, and many other voices, there was a group named Arrested Development (Speech, Headliner, Baba Oje, Rasa Don, Aerle Taree, & Motosho Eshe) well known for spreading their African culture and vibes, along with positive messages comming from Atlanta.
One thing I like about this group is their style was mostly laid back and enjoyable. Most of the contributions of this album were the instruments that were used throughout this album. Speech, who does most of the vocals, makes lyrics that were made to create a positive environment like marrage on the song as "U" and getting a better outlook on religion on "Fishin' 4 Religion". At the same time, they were more for giving back knowledge to others in songs "Give A Man A Fish" & "Mr. Wendal". Other tracks that have a strong positive vibe are "People Everyday", "Tennessee" and "Washed Away". They sample a lot of old artist's songs on this album (a good one would be Sylvester Stewart's "Everyday People" on the song "People Everyday"), I like it though.
Overall, this was a very innovative album that came out in 1992. Unfortnately this album got over played, that people got tired of this group (I was about 7 when this came out, and I still remember the "Mr. Wendal" song), so when their 1994 album Zinga...(I dear not try to spell that name) came out, people turned the other way. I believe both of their albums should be heard. Also they would appear on MTV's Unplugged in 1993. If you can, try to hear one of the albums by this group, even it's a greatest hits album (they're tons of them floating around), because I pretty sure you'll love it. I recommend this to people who want to hear some African cultural vibes and music.

Thank You Baba Oje!.......2005-08-19
It is a true pity that our people are so eager to line the pockets of filthmongering materialistic hip-crap, and leaving eloquent and sincere artists like A.D. out to dry.
This album was positivity pure and simple. The message was strength but also intelligence. We can be poets too. The pen is mightier than the sword.
How many other groups out there subscribe to the African concept of respecting the elders? But Speech and Co. brought Baba Oje with them for spiritual guidance, and he gave them plenty!
The music is soft and deep and beautiful. An anthem for our people, and a prayer of hope.
Who says rap has to be violent and vulgar?.......2005-08-10
I respect AD for having the courage of their convictions and being unafraid to state their beliefs unequivocally in their music. It's obvious that they have great respect for humanity and for their fellow man (all mankind).
"Mr. Wendal" is a very touching commentary on homelessness, "Tennessee" talks about recapturing a more peaceful time and lifestyle and my favourite track "Washed Away" talks about the gradual and slow moral degradation that takes place almost imperceptably.
This album is a classic because the lyrics are great and would still be great if this were a country & western album. My point is that the intelligent and heartfelt lyrics here would be at home in any genre and what is surprising is that it falls under the rap genre which is probably the one you'd least associate these days with intelligence, sympathy and concern for humanity.
AD may not have lived very long as a group but this album sure will and is destined to remain a classic for many years to come.

Customer Reviews:
Rich collection of the Stones' earlier work.......2007-04-15
Many of the items on this album have been released before in well known collections (Hot Rocks, More Hot Rocks: Big Hits & Fazed Cookies, etc.). However, this provides a nice survey of what the subtitle refers to as "The London Years."
Especially welcome is Disc One. Here are a number of early works that draw upon the blues tradition out of which the Stones came. Their covers are as interesting, in some senses, as their own music. Chuck Berry's "Come on" illustrates. A nice rollicking version. Some of Willie Dixon's compositions are covered (e.g., "I Want to Be Loved," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," and "Little Red Rooster" [a cool version]). One of Buddy Holly's hits, "Not Fade Away," comes off well. Bobby Womack's "It's All over Now" is solidly sung (indeed, in a later Rolling Stones' tour, I saw Bobby Womack sing this as part of the opening for the concert). Stevie Wonder's "I Don't Know Why" is also included. The other songs on Disc One are primarily works by Jagger-Richards themselves. Toward the end of this are quintessential Rolling Stones works of the mid-1960s, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and "Get off of My Cloud."
The second disc covers the years from "19th Nervous Breakdown" through the psychedelic album, "Their Satanic Majesties Request." Some rather little known works appear, but most are well known. Because of that, this covers much the same territory as "Hot Rocks" and is less interesting than the first CD. The final disc has a lot of the "greatest hits" of the late 1960s and early 1970s (think "Street Fighting Man," "Honky Tonk Women," "Brown Sugar," and "Sympathy for the Devil"). There are also some mildly entertaining trifles ("Jiving Sister Fanny" and "Memo from Turner").
The most interesting of the CDs, then, is the first, since it shows off nicely some of the foundational works upon which the Rolling Stones' oeuvre is based.
There are better choices for Rolling Stones GHs........2007-02-04
This box set was release in the late 80s during the peak of the box sets revival. The problem with the collection here is that it included all of the 45 records on 3 CDs. This may seem like a good ideal, and I will be the first to admit it, I thought it was great until I got it home and started listening to it. The problem is that not only does it included all of the hits, from "Satification" to "Get off my Cloud" to "Sympathy For The Devil", it includes also the B-side of the 45s, which include such songs as "Little Red Rooster", "Jiving Sister Fanny" and "Who's Driving Your Plane?". The issue is not the good stuff, it the filler that kills it. The Stones have way to many great songs, both before and after "Exile on Main Street" then to waste time listening to almost half the songs on this album. If you love the stones in the London Years, trade this in for Hot Rocks.
Great Fun. A Musical Biography of A Legendary Band's Early Years.......2006-11-06
This album is simply great fun from beginning to end. Made up of all the material on the Stones' singles, A and B sides, from the London years, it is a grand tour of their early years and their evolution as one of the top rock and roll bands of all time. The mix is good enough on the CD that the mono still sounds fine to me on a stereo system, so I have no complaints there. The sound is raw and energetic, much the way I expect their early concerts sounded. If you are a Stones fan, this is an essential addition to your music collection. So good that when the CD ends, you want to give it another listen.
I'm gonna tear my hair out just 4U!.......2006-08-16
Many, like me, read these reviews as a pastime. There are a few reviewers who must be more audiophilic than simply lovers of the Stones, or rock, or any particular group. In this particular case, since it is such a comprehensive and large box set--if you remember these were all singles, that's a LOT of vinyl replaced by 3 little discs--I am not going to be so particular.
This is the first boxed set or CD of any kind my goil friend, and now wife, risked buying finicky me: she felt she could not go wrong! And she was 100% correct. Mono, stereo, SACD, AIFF, AAC, whatEVAH--If you were jumping up and down to these songs over some tiny transistor AM radio in the sixties, and singing these songs in the bathroom, and they came out of your dashboard on Saturday night when you had your date parked out in the woods, BUY THIS! It sounds great, absolutely amazing, song after song, compared to what we had then, and the hits keep right on coming. Try to decide which songs Mick was messed up on. Figure out which ones were influenced by some other band from that era when they came out. Dig how amazing Brain Jones was always!
I don't think you can pack more coolness into a boxt set, as someone else said. This set of mine is like fifteen years old now, and I put it on iTunes a few months back. It gets played, in part, nearly every day, and I have 60 Gigs of iTunes! How good is that?
A Fantastic Compilation.......2006-08-13
If you happen to be a huge Rolling Stones fan like myself, than I must say that "The London Years: The Singles Collection" will make a fantastic edition to your cd library. This solid mix of classic hits by Mick and the boys and hard to find rarities, it is a truly wortwhile purchase.
Disc 1 covers 1962 up to 1965, kicking off with their first single, their cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On". What follows is a journey through some of their biggest hits ("(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Time Is On My Side", "Get Off My Cloud") and a stunning list of rare tracks (their cover of The Beatles' "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Little Red Rooster", "Off The Hook", and much more).
Disc 2 is loaded with familliar Stones staples such as "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Pain It, Black", "Mother's Little Helper", "Ruby Tuesday" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and includes lesser known tunes like "Stupid Girl", "Sad Day", "Who's Driving Your Plane", "2000 Light Years From Home" and "In Another Land".
Disc 3 is the only disc I have really any complaints about. I hate how they put the single edit of "You Can't Always Get What You Want", the song is nothing without the choral intro. Plus, while I know this is solely meant to be a singles collection, I think that any Stones compilation covering this period, even if it's mainly just the singles, should include "Gimme Shelter", "Let It Bleed" and "Midnight Rambler".
Other than that (plus the fact that the cd won't play on my computer), I have virtually no complaints about this fantastic compilation that I recommend to all fans of great rock and roll.
