Add ex-Veruca Salt co-leader Nina Gordon to a growing list of 90s female rock singers (think Liz Phair and Alanis Morissette) who have left behind the grit of their earlier work to emphasize a more accessible pop sound. On her 2nd solo release Bleeding Heart Graffiti, producer Bob Rock polishes each song to a high-gloss, showcasing Gordon's lightweight but pleasant voice over lush backgrounds. The lead-off single "Kiss Me Til It Bleeds" is a catchy meditation on the guy-you-can't-resist, but most of the album lingers in somber ballad territory without displaying the tension of pop contemporaries like Aimee Mann or Fiona Apple. Nina Gordon sounds like she's having more fun on "Suffragette", where an infectious T-Rex groove and background vocals dead lifted from an 80s Prince record blend into a danceable concoction. --Ben Heege
Album Description
Nina Gordon is back. Six years after her debut solo album and eight years after her departure from Veruca Salt, the singer-songwriter with the emotionally intimate voice returns with Bleeding Heart Graffiti. A concept album about the beginning, middle and end of a relationship--being alone, finding yourself and becoming strong again--Bleeding Heart Graffiti was produced by Bob Rock [Veruca Salt's Eight Arms To Hold You, Gordon's solo debut Tonight And The Rest Of Your Life as well as Metallica, Bon Jovi, etc.]. Warmer and more organic than her first album--but still pop--Bleeding Heart Graffiti paints a new picture of Nina Gordon.

Album is A Mixed Blessing...........2007-07-08
This sophomore solo effort from Gordon has some absolute pop gems, and it also has a redundancy in its second half that makes the last twenty minutes reasonably forgettable.
First, the gems--the opening single "Kiss Me Til It Bleeds" is infectious as hell. It is a song that is both sassy and cute at the same time, like the girl next door with a charmingly malevolent streak. Further along, we catch a brilliant Gordon ballad in "Don't Let Me Down." Aside from beautifully evocative musicianship, we get a sincere love song couched in a vocal cadence that makes this song stand out from the others. These were, hands down, two of my favorite songs to come out of 2006.
Aside from that, well...there isn't a single song that is bad. That said, there are few that are memorable, either. There are some good songs ("Christmas Lights", "Suffragette"), and then there is a lot of songs that don't do a great deal to distinguish themselves from one another--low-tempo ballads meant to showcase Gordon's amazing voice. None of them are bad...they just start to accumulate and feel a little disposable.
All things considered, I'd like to have seen a little more variety, which was far more evident in her previous effort.
That said--she is incapable of writing a BAD song, and is incapable of performing a song badly. So throw down some change on this one--it is worth it, warts and all.
i'm in a bad way .......2007-06-22
I was pretty disapppointed with this album it just doesn't live up to Tonight and the Rest of My Life. I have to agree previous reviews Tonight and the Rest of My Life is one of my favorite albums. Bleeding Heart Graffiti has one or two good songs but the rest of the album just falls short.
Waited years for this.......2007-06-20
Kinda good, kinda boring, but not nearly as impressive or entertaining as the previous "Tonight and the Rest of My Life". Get Tonight instead.
Disappointing effort.......2007-06-08
I really enjoyed her first solo album, and I was looking forward to hearing her new effort. Unfortunately, I just couldn't find one single song that I liked, even after repeated listenings. I appreciate the entire album, as she seems to have matured in her songwriting and production values. She's finally moved past being an Aimee Mann clone (on her first album) and gotten over being a former riot grrl (her career with Veruca Salt). However, she seems to have lost the sparkling pop sensibilities that were so in evidence in her past work.
Dissapointed Fan.......2007-04-15
I am a huge Nina Gordon fan, but this CD is just okay. Very mediocre. The only two songs I really like are Sufragette & Don't Let Me Down. I was very disspointed. I LOVE Tonight and The Rest of My Life, it is still my favorite CD in my collection. What happened to the Nina that I love?

Please!.......2007-06-11
Are you kidding me, this isn't progressing this is the exact opposite. Yeah its progressing if like like your hardcore all fluffy. This album has it good moments but over all it is a let down from their previous albums. I really like this band though and I hope their next release gets alot more heavy. If you can find it check out Bleeding Through first album Dust To Ashes, now that's brutal.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!.......2006-12-27
Bleeding through just straight up sucks, they sound like every other metalcore bands that swears they sound different, thesinger is horrible. i mean all he does is complain and whin through out the whole cd. just suck it up. doesnt he have enough balls to come up with something better and quit bytching? anywayz i dont recommend this so called "metal" cd, more like emo. but i do recommend some children of bodom, trivium, or kreator. now thats talent.
This truth is just mediocre........2006-11-28
To begin, I truly do not care for how the frontman for the band, Brandon, claims that this cd is a middle finger to the metalcore genre and the subculture full of posers or whatever. This cd is not anything special and does blend in with the typical metalcore bands. I like Bleeding Through a lot, they have a good sound and put on a great live show, but I can admit that it is nothing groundbreaking. The songs are all pretty heavy and can get you pumped up, but a lot of the riffs sound the same and I have a hard time distinguishing between songs. This cd is pretty good, but not enough to be considered great (4-5 stars). The one thing that I like least about this cd is Brandon's clean vocals. Everyone exclaims that his clean vocals are "amazing!" or "beautiful!" when they really are absolutely awful. You can tell that they were overly produced to sound even decent. He is really not a good singer, but still has a pretty tough growl, which is a strong point for the band. Again, this is nothing special but still has some cool breakdowns.
.........2006-11-10
I'm too lazy to type. This just deserves more than the average 4 stars it has.
It owns, and it's well worth anyone's money.
killer.......2006-09-09
yo, this album kills!!! the only complaint would be the clean vocals. brandon can't sing at all, stick to the tough guy vocals!!!!! brandon has one of the best tough guy vocals out there! anyways i still give it five stars it's that good!

the sun is shining with a new intensity today..........2006-03-28
This just arrived in the mail and as I was playing it I realised that I hadn't heard Freak Scene for years. At that moment the sun came out and I was lurched back to my youth and sweaty nights at the Pink Toothbrush where that song was guaranteed to fill the dance floor.
Today is a good day.
4 stars not 5 as Pond Song should have been on here. Otherwise it is great.
Out There... Jr........2005-10-25
Odlicna kolekcija pesama jednog od najzanimljivijih americkih bendova nezavisne scene. Ne znam kako i zasto, ali Dinosaur Jr. su uvek bili i ostali nezasluzeno u senci Sonic Youth i Nirvana.
Ovo je kompilacija koja ce vas vratiti u vreme kada je nezavisna scena i tekako bila uticajna, a pesme poput Little Fury Things, Just Like Heaven, Whatever's Cool With Me, Out There... potsetiti na neka bezbednija vremena.
Got a knack for being right!.......2005-09-26
From there inception as a post hardcore sonic terrors until the end as grunge survivors, 'Ear Bleeding Country' Dinosaur Jr's best of covers a great deal of territory. Full of great tracks, some classic some merely good, the one thing you should take away from listening to this collection is that J Mascis, boy could he play guitar. A generation of who were brought up on grunge owe that guitar sound to J, one of the few originals of the last 25 years.
What this fails to do however is give a good overview of the band. The early tense savagery of the more punk albums especially isn't really on show on this collection, and is rather under represented. However its still great fun, often thunderous, and almost reveling in a slacker ethic. Though I'm sure every fan would have come up with a different best of 19 songs, this is still as decent a starting place you'll find for the band, after which if you're interested you should get 'You're Living All Over Me' then 'Bug' then 'Greenmind' and 'Whatevers Cool With Me', followed by the rest at random. Of interest long time fans still is the pretty flower of a 'Take A Run At The Sun' which J did for a movie soundtrack, and is probably the best example of his softer sider you'll ever find.
The other high lights, the first seven songs, 'Whatevers Cool With Me', 'Start Choppin', 'Feel The Pain' and 'I'm Insane'. Really just enjoy and then hopefully you'll discover the rest of what the band has to offer.
Not Bad, But Not What I Expected.......2004-07-24
Okay, this is a review from someone who's not familiar at all with DJ's catalogue. I picked this up because I had remembered borrowing the Where You Been album from a friend and absolutely loving it. So I came to this expecting more of the same but unfortunately came away a little disappointed. The earlier stuff isn't really to my taste and I actually found it a little boring. From track 11 (the start of the three Where You Been tracks) onwards, things started to pick up and it was a bit more interesting. Overall though, if you're not a fan, I would recommend buying Where You Been instead. That's what I should have done in the first place!
Okay compilation.......2004-06-27
This could've been a better Best of CD if it were a two disc complete with live tracks and more tracks from the albums. But we do get the hard to find tracks Take a Run at the Sun, Just like Heaven and Whatever's cool With me. But most of the tracks from the eariler albums like Dinosaur, You're living all over Me and Bug are gone. From Dinosaur we only get Repulsion which is a pretty good song, but why not include Bulbs of Passion? J Mascis himself said it's one of the songs that really made them what they were even before they became Dinosaur jr. On YLAOM the tracks Lose, the Lung and Show me the Way are skipped over. Lose is probably Lou Barlow's best contribution to the band, the Lung is just great and Show me the Way is amazing for a cover song. We do get the awesome In a Jar and Little Fury things though. From Bug the tracks They Always Come, Pond Song and Let it Ride are missed out on.
Actually come to think of it only two tracks from each album are featured on this compilation. And they're usually the more popular songs like Feel the Pain (Without a Sound) and I'm Insane (Hand it over). Not to say they're bad songs, it's that the Dino jr veterans would like to see the less accessible tracks from the OOP albums on here.
With that being said pick this up if you're a newcomer to Dinosaur Jr or J Mascis's work. But if you've grown to Dinosaur Jr like I have then skip it and seek out the other albums.
I would also like to say that sometime later this year You're Living all Over me, Dinosaur and Bug are getting reissues. Keep that in mind.

Wow! What fabulous new music! If you like female singer/songwriters, you will LOVE Nicole Atkins! She's got a unique sound and does lovely things with her voice. The lost sound.......2007-05-03
I believce that this is the album that really highlights Chris Barnes and Jack Owens/Rob Barret real talents. Owens has been one of my all time favorites and along with Barret, the guitar melodies and riffs are at the most brutal here. There are many many death metal/grindcore/noisecore bands around, but most sound all the same with the exception of varied levels of technical abilities. Few of these groups have their own unique sound and character...and few bring this to full conception like Cannibal Corpse. I think that this album puts it all together. The song writing, melodies, vocal approach, and production quality just seem to gel on this album! You can't tell me that these guitar players are anything less than brilliant on this recording, the complex layers, and absolute style is all their own.
I notice that the trend of bands in this genre as well as CC in the years to follow this alum tend to become more groove core oriented, as well as dumbing down the complex songwriting opting for something more digestable. I think a whole generation missed out on the more creative and complex sounds of earlier grindcore. Around 1995 most bands went either super technical or groove core, and I still miss the absolute insanity of this earlier style of music. I think that this was the last of the the original CC sound and the one I most appreciate. CC along with AC, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, and Regurgitate still remain my favorites. Peace
get this album.......2007-04-18
don't listen to the worthless opinions of others who bag this album. this album shreds and should be in all true DM fans collection. if this crap is boring to you or sounds the same then you probably don't really have a heart for Death Metal. just get this album and you'll see.
The Bleeding.......2007-04-11
Of all Cannibal Corpse's albums, this is the one I find myself listening to the most. I don't know what it is about this album that just makes me really get into it. The strange thing about this conclusion is the fact that I prefer Fisher's vocals to Barnes'. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, I'm simply saying that I prefer the vocals of Fisher. Anyways, what we have here is a great collection of death metal. This isn't the height of Cannibal Corpse's technicality (you'll find their latest work "Kill" to be far more technical than previous release as they tend to push the envelope with every new album), and it certainly isn't their most creative lyrically, but if you're a fan of the genre, you will be in love with this onslaught of unbridled Death metal. If I were to suggest a Cannibal Corpse record to a newcomer, it would probably be this one. Also be forewarned that there is another version of this album that includes extended artwork and bonus tracks. I don't have that version, but I would suggest that you try and find it.
One last thought before I leave Homozon.......2007-01-07
First off, if you added me to my myspace thing, I will still talk to you, especially the people that i became good friends with (you know who you are).
I like Cannibal Corpse. DOn't tell me that anybody can make music like this, because they cna't. It takes more talent to do this kind of music, but never mind. I am really sick of this site, amazon really did get bought by Disney (the _________ entertainment corporation ever). CC Rule, and they are catchy too, and not boring. Catchy catchy catchy that's what they are. Can't deal with that? Oh well.
CC rule, that is all. Bye.
P.S. Squash N' Squeak, if you had any pride, do you think you would have become so popular on this crappy site if I wouldn't have found you that easily? DOn't give me that _____ either about how "I would have found myslef" because I'll tell you, it took me forever to find my way into it. BEfore, I had no friends on this site, and the only way I found people on this site was because of my discovery of the reviewer Eggplant, and that was because I liked his profile picture (after reading through his reviews, then I realized he's the best reviewer ever). And lastly, don't take this as some _______ insult. Why do people think taht just befcause you don't make something positive, you are automatically being bashed. In real life, we disagree with people and nothing happens, yet people act like it's a Nulcear Attack on the world or something. So dude, let's keep it sane and don't fight okay. As far as I am concerned, you still kick ___.
P.S. Comrade ren, you also rule.
As for the people I don't like, ____ you all!
Moronic in every sense of the word........2007-01-07
First off, let me say that I'm not offended by CC's lyrics or their album artwork (which I find kind of amusing). I'm sure the band members are normal people, and don't do anything their lyrics talk about (at least I hope not). But even so, this band is one of the most retarded I've ever heard. The music is boring; it all sounds the same! Chris Barnes' growl is way too incomprehendible; seriously, I don't even know why he bothered writing lyrics. But then again, the lyrics obviously didn't take a lot of thought. They're just about necrophelia and smashing people's heads open. Oooh, I'm trembling! When listening to a band like CC, I can understand why people badmouth death metal so much. And come on, "best death metal album ever"? Listen to Death's Symbolic and then listen to this, and tell me which one sounds better. Geez, Chuck Schuldiner must be rolling in his grave.
If you like this band, that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I know the lyrics are meant for entertainment purposes only, but this is just boring and redundant, and the lyrics are just stupid. But go ahead, give me an unhelpful vote for not agreeing with everyone else and not thinking this is a good band. Go on and call me a pu$$y for not liking them and not thinking they're "br00tal". Show that you're ignorant enough to not respect other people's opinions. I'll respect your positive opinion of CC if you respect my negative opinion on this band.
P.S. And listen to Comrade Ren right below me, and check out the awesome bands he recommended. His review is just as good, if not better.

best cd ever.......2007-04-28
okay, i only named it that because of the few who rated it 1 star and... the one who rated it 3. it really is one of my favorite cd's though. it is an aquired taste and a love it or hate it cd. if you rate this a 3, i really don't understand you. i have fallen asleep to this cd blasting in my headphones once, and that is truly terrible. because this is probably THE heaviest cd i own, and although the members have changed (besides scogin) the chariot continue to rule with UNSUNG and the fiancee. they never cease to amaze me, but this album will take time to grow on you. once you do, you WILL NOT put it down for a LONG time.
The Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Chariot!!!!.......2006-04-21
Well, obviously if you are looking at the reviews for this CD you may be seeing that people either LOVE this CD or HATE this CD. I am one of those that LOVE it. The Chariot is mainly a thrash band without the 30 second songs. They have all the brutality of The Locust, Et Tu Brute? and bands in that genre without having 1.) The blood lusty, depressing lyrics, and 2.) The half minute songs that all sound the same after an hour of listening.
The Chariot is fronted by Josh Scogin of Norma Jean (Who, by the way, does a LOT better than the new vocalist they have). He has a huge range with his vocals and brings over his trademark long song titles for this CD. (Check out the title for track #2) But the lyrics he writes are poetic and uplifting, not dark and disturbing like others in the genre. And if you pick up "Everything Is Alive..." check out their "Unsung EP" with some new music and a concert video that is wicked. Bottom line is, though, you are going to like it or hate it. So maybe borrow it before you buy it to check it out. But if you are a fan of Norma Jean or even As I Lay Dying, you should give it a once over.
Chaotic Metal: Definitely An Acquired Taste.......2006-04-06
I got a good laugh out of the sticker on the corner of "Everything Is Alive..." that read something like "For Fans of Opeth, Unearth, and ASHLEE SIMPSON". A band on Solid State Records that sounds like a mediocre pop "star"? Yeah right; this band definitely has sense of humor.
When I first played the CD, I listened to the first track all the way through. I absolutely hated it. I then skipped through all the other tracks and listened to about 30 seconds of each. More of the same. I couldn't believe that I had wasted my money on this pile of slow-paced loud noisy garbage. The guitar feedback grated on my eardrums, and I ended up with a massive headache. Needless to say, I took a break from The Chariot for a while.
A few weeks later, however, the song "Die Interviwer" popped up on my mp3 player's random shuffle, so I listened to the whole song. I could actually tolerate it. Soon, I started listening to more and more songs from the album, and I was amazed by the realness of the sound, and the incredible brutality of it all: the ripping guitars, the pounding drums, and the lead singer, who roars like a man possessed. I listened to the album all the way through, and I was hooked.
The Chariot is a truly incredible band, and is nothing like I've ever heard before. They draw a listener in more than Norma Jean ever will. They are just as amazingly brutal in concert, also. However, a word of warning: You cannot just start listening to this band. A love of metal is required, and you have to be open to new styles. I would recommend listening to bands such as Becoming the Archetype before picking this album up. But it is well worth it; listening to The Chariot is a breathtaking experience.
DO NOT!.......2006-02-20
This is one of the worst metal releases of all and I mean
ALL time. Lots of long song titles that make no sense and
are stupid. Short songs. Sloppy metal. Horrible screaming.
Crap. Get zao instead.
Feedbackfest 04! Starring The Chariot.......2006-02-08
Well.......what to say about this album other than.....it has mroe feedback than a Who concert (even at 13 decibels haha!) This one is decent at best....I'm glad a friend of mine burned it for me instead of me going out and actually paying full price because it's not that great. I was expecting so much from Scogin but ya know what......if you really want to hear what this band can really do, check out The Unsung EP. Now I can understand how most people really love the rawness, I am one of them believe me, but ya know what....there is only so much feedback that one person can take without wanting to throw the CD out the window. The one blessing that this album gives you is that it's only 29 minutes long. My favorite song on the CD by far is track 5 And Then, Came Then. I love the intro with the classical music, then Josh's bone rattling roar blasts from the speakers. If you're looking for Norma Jean 2....don't listen to this CD. The only thing NJ about this CD is Scogin. But if you're interested in The Chariot, listen to The Unsung EP...the songs have more of a polish but it still showcases the talent wonderfully.

Album Description
In the roughly four years since their inception, this Orange County outfit's musically muscular intimidation, clearly focused purpose and irrepressible drive has allowed Bleeding Through to savagely claw their way up from the hardcore underground and quickly become a force to be reckoned with across several genres. Bleeding Through has arrived to stake their claim as heir to the legacy of the heavy metal forefathers of yore. Just take one listen to the tightly wound, convincingly proficient, brutally pummeling and absolutely devastating sound of "This Is Love, This Is Murderous" and there'll be no need for further convincing. Imagine the heaviness of Meshuggah, the fierce yet melodic sensibilities of In Flames and the undeniable credibility of Hatebreed, and you may begin to formulate some idea of what this band can do. On the strength of this masterpiece, you'll soon see Bleeding Through's dark, Samhain like image, uplifting and engaging stage persona and blackened and New-Wave-of-Swedish-Heavy-Metal-charged devastation attack your town.
Album Description

"This Is"...good stuff!.......2007-06-10
If you grew up in this generation, one of two things probably come to mind when you hear the phrase "Orange County, California":: a) any number of punk and/or screamo bands, or b) that excruciatingly sappy (and now canceled) drama on the Fox Network ("The O.C."). Well, Bleeding Through are from Orange County, but they are neither a punk/screamo band or a group of melodramatic, honey-faced teenagers. They are an intense and hungry young metalcore outfit with loads of potential.
Bleeding Through's third album (and first on a major label, Trustkill Records), 2003's "This Is Love...This Is Murderous," is a bit more unique than typical, faceless metalcore releases, because it incorporates several other genres and influences into the mix. Brandan Schieppati delivers his furious vocals (in the form of growls, barks, and bellows) over a seemingly endless stream of pulverizing breakdowns, blistering Swedish death metal riffs, weighty rhythms, admirably technical drumming (i.e. walloping, grindcore-worthy blast beats), atmospheric, black metal-worthy keyboard accents (ala Dimmu Borgir), and even an occasional ripping guitar solo. The final sound is typically quite catchy, and always very lean, mean, punishing, and satisfying.
Listeners looking for pummeling hardcore beat-downs should definitely give "This Is Love..." a listen, because there are a ton of them to be heard here. And if they aren't your cup of tea, but you enjoy aggressive, brutal, abrasive music with raw-sounding production and a very powerful and visceral impact, you could do a lot worse than this album. After a brief intro ("Lost Love In A Hale Of Gunfire"), the pounding "Sweet Vampirous" is the official set opener, and it pretty much sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the songs, with its dense, churning riffs, bruising rhythm, throaty yells intertwined with clean singing, impeccable (albeit fairly brief) solo, and mellow ending. But then the band storm back with "Number Seven With A Bullet," a sneak attack (it's just over a minute long) backed by dense guitars and forceful death metal blasts that greet the listener like a steel-toed kick to the skull. Then, after the menacingly ambient and highly symphonic "On Wings Of Lead", the bludgeoning "What I Bleed Without You" knocks you flat on your back. Later, Brandon goes absolutely nuts on the microphone while bellowing out the lyrics to tracks like the title tune and "City Of The Condemned" (plus, the latter also features a surprising hardcore shout-along ending: "No regrets!");"Murder By Numbers" boasts scorching guitar interplay, wicked shrieks, slamming drums, and a couple of tasty solos; "Dead Like Me" is another onslaught with extra chunky riffing and a hard, driving rhythm; and "Revenge I Seek," which is probably the record's hookiest song, falls into a lurching, head-bobbing groove.
Monotony sets in after a while, leaving "This Is Love, This Is Murderous" as a good, if not entirely memorable album that shows Bleeding Through had plenty of room for growth (which they would achieve on their 2006 effort, "The Truth"). But it's still a very enjoyable listen, and it makes for competent headbanging sessions. Plus, it may lose out to a few other bands for the best metal/hardcore record of 2003 (see Lamb of God's "As The Palaces Burn," Chimaira 's "Impossibility of Reason," and Hatebreed 's "The Rise of Brutality"), but all in all, it is a pretty close call.
One of the best Metalcore bands.......2006-07-14
This Is Love, This Is Murderous is, in my opinion, Bleeding Through's best effort to date. It has the best sound, the best lyrics, and best vocals. When I heard this album for the first time about a year or so ago, I couldnt wait for their next. Then when "The Truth" did come out, I was somewhat disappointed. They took a turn in the more generic Metalcore direction. Its more commercial. Sure, its still a decent album, but just not as good as this one. This album doesnt have that. Neither to their other first two.
Now, this album is not a masterpiece by any means. What this album does lack is the keyboard sounds. Which are a strong point on "The Truth". I mean, if you have a keyboardist, then use her! Some songs lack inspiration. They just sound the same...I dont know why bands would do that. Its like an over use of the Death Metal blast beat, except with groove guitar riffs being over used. What I do like about this album are the vocals most especially. Branden is a great vocalist, and he really can LEAD the band along. If you want to hear how Metalcore should be played then buy this album. Its a Metalcore classic.
Frustration on record sounds like the rest.......2006-01-03
So I really don't listen to this music too much because nothing is valuable to me on this CD. Bands like this are often awesome live, and then you buy this CD, and then you find yourself listening to a few songs off it for a while, and then it phases.
On listen alone, I can't understand the vocalist half the time enough to care what the message is. The musicianship (as with most metalcore albums) is interesting, but molds itself in with other bands. I like the level that they take events to, but I can't see the full picture on words alone.
My guess is that bands like this create songs in their garage for about three months, record them before they forget them, go play shows with this new material and maybe a few of their more memorable ones, and then start all over, burning the bridge and calling it a success. I can't understand that train of thought without some kind of care put into the vocals, and real musicians get interested in new sounds and ways of creating songs, not at all what they seemed to do with this release.
So go see 'em in concert (they probably are a lot of fun to see), but leave the $10 at home if they try peddling this CD.
Know What You're Talking about.......2005-12-28
Someone wrote a review dissing Marta's playing on this album. She didn't play on the album, it was recorded before she joined. She's an excellent keyboardist, and this album is great. If you're looking for a really hard, metal album, then this is it.
this is really 3.5.......2005-12-25
This album has good parts and lots of potential in this band and based on the reviewers of the other albums Bleeding Through can be better than this. You can tell they influenced by all of the metalcore scene. The post-hardcore/Straight Edge, bands like killswitch engage, throwdown, hatebreed, chimaira, heaven shall burn. Death metal/black metal, with bands like lamb of god and God forbid.
Grindcore, old as i lay dying, norma jean, and the dillinger escape plan. And last but not least, the newer kind of thrash seems to be infulenced by the Scandinavian Metal
like in flames. (this metal doesn't really have a name for it). with bands like, the newer as i lay dying, darkest hour, all that remains, haste the day, A7X, silverstein, and still remains. but this album doesn't refect any good quality of these types any of those kinds of metal (other than Love Lost in a Hail of Gun Fire, On Wings Of Lead, Revenge I Seek, and Dead Like Me). you hear it, you know theres talent but, it doesn't have any feeling in it. it doesn't make you feel ticket off at the heavey parts or gives you a feeling of remorse at the slower parts. if you want to hear something better than this check out these bands...

Album Description
The Bleeding Alarms debut album Beauty in Destruction is a disc that has many different layers of the post-hardcore/emo/punk movement. The band pulls in elements from all the genres to clinch an impressive initial effort on Immortal Records.
Customer Reviews:
Emo/Screamo......whatever........2007-03-15
I was immediately impressed with the bands multi note front work, since most bands these days are nowhere near that in their abilities. I found myself drawn into the album, and I finished with a slow sigh. It was absolutely one of the best albums I have listened to recently. They gave me something to look forward to in this genre. I played the CD on repeat and made sure it was in my Ipod. I've reminded all my friends to check it out. I was shocked my friends hadn't already heard of them, and I consider them a true diamond in the ruff.
thebleedingalarm ~Beauty in Destruction~.......2006-07-06
Thebleedingalarm, always spelt in lowercase with all three words mashed together, are a five piece rock band out of Canada that just recently signed to Immortal Records. Apparently the demo was so good that the label decided not to make any changes to it; just repackage and release it as the bands debut album.
Though not quite as good as Immortal would have you believe, thebleedingalarm have some promise. They're emo in the same sense that Moments in Grace are, they have a large emo appeal but I wouldn't go about tossing them right in the genre. Their leads remind me of Alexisonfire's Watch Out!which is nice to hear since not many bands are using that type of jerky/multi note lead work.
The disc itself really starts to shake about half-way through with the song ""Amber in Ashes."" This track exemplifies strong screamo and propels the rest of this album forward. It's a shame the first half isn't as good as the proceeding songs... ""Sorrows the Seas of my Heart"" is chock full of wonderful melody and the title track is a true monster, filled with desperation and anguish.
All in all, for most people, this album will probably get tossed into the "typical screamo" corner and never get listened to again. I hear a little more melody in some of this bands songs and their hooks are pretty tight so I hear a world of potential. Instead of re-releasing this album, I would have had the band go back into the studio and work on an entirely new album--I hear maturity, but I know that a second album from this band would have produced much better results in the same way that Alexisonfire's second album is far superior to their debut.
If you're down with screamo that has strong melodies, this is for you. Just don't think you're buying the next Too Bad You're Beautiful.
For Fans of: Alexisonfire, From Autumn to Ashes, Brand New
Where the hell did this come from?.......2006-06-14
In a fit of boredom I began listening to every band that Amazon recommended to me, and I was just about to give up when I discovered "Beauty in Destruction"...I have to admit that I know absolutly nothing about this band, other than the fact that they are a diamond in the rough.. This CD came out of nowhere and completely blew me away..I highly recommend this CD to anyone with ears, a soul, and a cd player..

killer.......2006-10-14
i first got into bleeding through after i heard lost in a hail of gunfire. after hearing the song i went out and got this is love, this is murerderous and thought they killed it! but after listening to the record it all started to sound the same with a few tracks that really stood out to me, i was really reluctant to pick up portrait but when i did i fell in love with this band again! this album is way better than this is love, i just can't stop listening to it. but this group has a lot of promise and they seem to only keep getting better because the truth kills everything! i can't decide which is better though the truth or portrait. the truth musically is brutal but i could have done with out all the clean vocals and the only slow track that's on it, but the keyboards and drums kill! anyways, promising band.
good.......2005-12-04
this is a good CD..i personally like "This is Love, This is Murderous" better...ive listened to this CD alot...and i still find new things about it...M. Shadows from A7X appears in #5 of this CD...overall great buy, if you like "This is Love, This is Murderous" then you'll like this..

One of the best metalcore albums ive heard. Really heavy chugging guitars, harsh screamed vocals mixed with an occasional clean part, and fast aggressive drumming.
The ringout at the end of the Saviour Saint Salvation instrumental gives me a huge [...]
Im pretty much sick of the whole overplayed metalcore genre but this album i still always come back to. Its not particularly innovative or unique (some may argue its generic), but the songs are well written, and relatively catchy, and the breakdowns will make you destroy.
This band is blowing up at the moment and its good to see them still playing cuts of this album when they play live as this is much better then This is Love...
Recommended if you like moshy chugging metalcore
Some people no nothing about music.......2005-01-22
First off i would like to say that bleeding through kicks ass. second off to the idiots that hated bleeding through the singer brandon was also the gutiarest for eighteen vsions and for throwdown. Now on to the albim its self, excellent hardcore for the most part, insane vocals backed up by griddy guitars and probaly the best drummer i have heard in awhile. I say everyone should buy this and maybe some that already own it should take a second a listen and get off the crazy death metal trip cause this hardcore.
Very Good.......2004-12-20
While Bleeding Throughs Portrait Of A Godess doesnt add much new to the table, it is still a very good album. I would definetely recommend this instead of This Is Love This Is Murderous. TILTIM is a pretty generic and boring album. True, Bleeding Through are your typical metalcore band, but they play their music with more passion, fury, aggression and energy than most of them out there. The musicianship is pretty good, especially the drumming. The keyboards in this CD are also pretty interesting. The keyboardist Marta doesnt play anything hard or complicated, but she does add a different element to the music. The highlight tracks here are "Rise" and "Portrait Of A Goddess", two of the most aggressive metalcore songs that youll ever hear. Recommended

While Hollywood's penchant for unbridled nepotism has produced its share of questionable career results, we're happy to report that this soundtrack collaboration by Alex and Jake Parker for their director father Alan Parker's morally charged courtroom thriller is a notable exception. The two young composers combine their disparate backgrounds--Alex is an engineer versed in electronic studio compositions; Jake a classically trained orchestral composer--to create a diverse score that's a compelling argument for the stylistic freedoms imparted by postmodernism. Alex's work veers from the alterna-electronica of the opening "Another Bleeding Heart" (reminiscent of Alabama 3's Sopranos title song, "Woke Up This Morning") and the even darker "Waterside" to dense electronic soundscapes propelled by tribal drums and punctuated with jarring, abrasive samples. By contrast, Jake evokes Samuel Barber in his melancholy, string-driven cues, occasionally combining his traditionalism with his brother's contemporary electronic bent to evoke music that's as forceful as it is mysterious. Their savvy musical instincts also include source music that ranges from Puccini's Turandot to the contemporary country of Toni Price's "Just to Hear Your Voice" and the plaintive Latino folk flourishes of Correo Aereo's "La Pena Huasteca." This enhanced CD also contains the film's international trailer as well as Web links. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Devastating and moving like the film.......2006-11-09
The music for this film is devastating, heartbreaking, and moving just like the film it represents. Both are loaded with emotion and power, and this is an example of what a film score should be - an extension of the bones of the story. Excellent.
Great Movie But Below Average Soundtrack.......2006-06-27
Don't waste your money on this soundtrack. They left the best song off. The song where they are at the party, eating food. Borrowed my brothers, and I gave it back to him two days later. I will say its a bit melodic, so it might make ok background music but that's it. Dony waste your XViii money on this.
Leonard Cohen???.......2004-12-18
I bought the CD for the Leonard Cohen song Future, (played at the party) where is it ???so dissapointed.
simple yet powerful.......2003-12-19
i just watched the movie, and i was so impressed. the music helped it along very well. although seemingly redundant, there was a successful purpose to it. the simplicity of the music is key in the relationship to the film. if the music was too active, it might've distracted the audience from the movie and wouldn't have had the same effect. the beat to me seemed like a rhythmic heartbeat, which helped the mood of the movie, given this man is on deathrow, and there's only a short amount of time left. coupling of music to films is an art for me, and i loved this one. i recommend it for anyone who loves simple, yet effective beats, and violins (my all-time favorite instrument).
I loved the flick.......2003-04-06
but the CD soundtrack by itself is a major disappointment. a common thread of beat and sound links all the tracks with one drum and one cello. After a few go-rounds, it becomes grating and tiresome. I would pass on this soundtrack and wait for the DVD for a few more dollars.
