Album Description
The debut by Melbourne's Cut Copy is a collection of dream and love-laden tunes pulled together with Dan Whitford's inside-out knowledge of 80's flavored synths and studio trickery. Influences range from house to low-slung, fuzzed up punk garage, and seminal 80's raincoat-wearing Mancunian electro-pop to nouveau disco, often within one song. Impossible to pigeonhole. Pop and dance. Happy sad. Simple yet complicated. Sincere yet cool. Naive but clever.

bright baby bright.......2007-02-16
from the moment I heard "Saturdays" I was sold. Gorgeous CD. Love the concept and how can you go wrong with music that makes you miss an era that you didn't live in?
best album I've heard in years.......2006-08-01
This is a foookin great album. The whole thing has a same-ness of sound, but is really quite varied. Some of the tracks are straight up electro while some are guitar based rock, but they pull it all off with such ease. GREAT songs, that flow into one another easilly and effortlessly. People talk about the synths and guitars on this album, but the bass is what propels it all. Whether its synth bass or real (and same with the percussion), the driving bass lines make it possible for the guitars and keys to do their thing. 'Autobahn Music Box', 'That Was Just a Dream', 'Saturdays', 'Zap Zap', are all pretty much perfect pop songs. The music makes you want to dance like crazy, but the lyrics are all about lonliness, sadness, longing, yearning. Its perfect. 'The Twilight' rocks in a way that sounds a lot (musically, not lyrically) like early PiL, 'Bright Neon Payphone' is an amazing rocker that for me is the climax of the album. All of the rest of it builds up to this song where the depth of the sadness and lonliness alluded to in other places on the albums is really exposed. Its great songwriting, the music rocks, the whole overall sound is, well, its hard to top. Then the album finishes with 'A Dream', a perfect comedown from the rest of the album, slow, bouncy, wistful. The whole album is so damn pretty! Beautiful music, everything I love all blended together into one great record. way to guy cut copy!
You've heard it before but..........2006-03-01
It gives a gracious nod to their influences: New Order, etc, possibly Superchunk. Anyway, I'm always baffled by people making the complaint that a band's influences are obvious. Music lovers know the difference between a bad rip-off and an appreciative nod. Nobody's doing anything new under the sun. This album is great for shaking off a bad day by shaking your hips instead. This entire album is a good listen. It's fun, moody, nostalgic...great for driving or for dancing by yourself. Plus, that cover is captivating.
A step back to the future........2006-01-07
I just cannot express enough how much I love this frickin band! I feel like a little teeny bopper listening to this album. By far my favorite new band. These guys arrange their elctro with true evolution. They toured with Franz Ferdinand in 2005. See these guys live if possible. It's a real treat. Make sure to download 'Kidz at the Disco' and the 'Nowhere Digitalism Remix'. These tracks are tough to find if you're not in the UK or down under. DJ's - If you can find anything vinyl by them, buy it. Very collectable. Everyone I play Cut Copy for loves them immediately. You can't go wrong buying this album.
ambient über-pop.......2006-01-03
recommended by a friend with superb taste, cut copy was a band i knew i would instantly be drawn to.
the album art was the initial indication.
mannequins. . .so hot right now. [and in the 80s]
daft punk-esque hooks, but distant dancing relatives- twice removed.
clearly new order and gary numan's estranged lovechild.
i love it. and so should you.
my advice: pick up this album, jump in your lamborghini, feather your hair, turn up your collar, splash on some polo, and head back to the time when reagan was king.

King vs. Queen is absolute royalty.......2007-04-17
Apparently this album wasn't even supposed to come out. In fact, the band said that the record was released without their knowledge. There was absolutely no promotion; it was just placed on a few stores' shelves one day. The trio have continually run into complications with their former record label (Carbon Copy Media) and are currently unsigned (according to their myspace page). It doesn't really matter, though, because this album is amazing!
The songwriting is great. Every song sounds different, yet one can recognize vocalist Justin Richards' distinct voice on each track. As far as I'm concerned, at least half the songs would go over well as singles. Each song has a poppy melody that I constantly find myself singing along to.
Favorite Songs: The Better Way, Television, Ready When You Are
One downfall to the album: Although I'm a fan of gang vocals, Brighten utilizes this tool on a lot of their songs. It takes away from Justin Richards' raw vocals.

Smooth music devoid of flash but rich in vintage hip-hop and soul dominates the accompaniment to this urban love story. Mary J. Blige's "Never Been" pulses like a gentle lullaby ode to desire, and Jill Scott's "Easy Conversation" flutters with her sultry, airy voice and mellow strumming. Angie Stone's "Bring Your Heart" pulses with lazy piano countermelody and honey-sweet vocals, while Cassandra Wilson's take on Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" is understated and folkish. Mos Def provides an edge to several tracks--"Breakdown," featuring fadeaway horns, and the "fine," fiercely rhymed version of "Brown Sugar." On a similarly uptempo bent, the Roots add in funky echoes and stutters to "Act Too (Love of My Life)," Black Star's "raw" version of "Brown Sugar" is sharp-tongued, and Eric B. & Rakim's sample-happy "Paid in Full" is a sprawling trip down old-school hip-hop's memory lane. Yet for all of its nods to the past, Brown Sugar sounds distinctly modern. Instead of just rehashing the past, its artists celebrate the spirit of bygone days with warm affection and loving care, which envelops the soundtrack in a cohesive and comforting glow. --Annie Zaleski
Customer Reviews:
This CD has been recalled because it contains a rootkit.......2005-11-16
WARNING - DO NOT BUY THIS CD. This CD is infected with DRM, a technology that not only limits what you can do with the music but actually affects the ability of your computer to do other unrelated tasks and opens you up to viruses and privacy infringements. Sony has actually recalled this CD and by all rights it should no longer be for sale on Amazon. In general, don't buy any CDs that are labeled "Copy Protected" or are made by Sony.
I like my Brown Sugar WITHOUT POISONOUS SPYWARE!!!.......2005-11-15
This is one of those Sony CD's that contains "XCP" spyware. XCP was written with the intent of concealing its presence and operation from the owner of the computer, and once installed, elements of the software run continuously -- even when no Sony-BMG music CD is in use. It provides no clear uninstallation option.
Additionally, without notifying users, the software appears to contact a remote machine under your control.
Sony has shocked and angered people over this issue. Software that deceives the owner of the computer it runs upon and opens that computer up to attacks by third parties may be expected to come from malicious cyber-attacks; it is certainly not expected nor acceptable to be distributed and sold to paying customers by a major music company.
Sony should temporarily halt manufacturing CDs with XCP and reexamine "all aspects" of their "content protection initiative."
If Sony truly intends to undo the harm that they have caused, they should immediately and publicly commit to the following measures:
1) Sony should recall all CDs that contain the XCP and SunnComm MediaMax technology. It must include removing all infected CDs from store shelves as well as halting all online sales of the affected merchandise.
A recent New York Times article said that well over 2 million infected CDs with the XCP technology are in the marketplace and have yet to be sold.
2) Sony should remove from all current and future marketing materials statements like that on http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html that say the cloaking software "is not malicious and does not compromise security."
3) Sony should widely publicize the potential security and other risks associated with the XCP and SunnComm MediaMax technology to allow the 2.1 million consumers who have already purchased the CDs to make informed decisions regarding their use of those CDs. The publicity campaign should include, at a minimum, issuing a public statement describing the risks and listing every Sony CD, DVD or other product that contains XCP or SunnComm MediaMax. The publicity campaign should be advertised in a manner reasonably calculated to reach all consumers who have purchased the products, in all markets where the CDs have been sold.
4) Sony should cooperate fully with any interested manufacturer of anti-virus, anti-spyware, or similar computer security tools to facilitate the identification and complete removal of XCP and SunnComm MediaMax from the computers of those infected. In particular, Sony should publicly waive any claims it may have for investigation or removal of these tools under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and any similar laws.
5) Sony should offer to refund the purchase price of infected CDs or, at the consumer's election, provide a replacement CD that does not contain the XCP or SunnComm technology. For those consumers who choose to retain infected CDs, develop and make widely available a software update that will allow consumers to easily uninstall the technology without losing the ability to play the CD on their computers.
In addition, consumers should not be required to reveal any personally identifying information to Sony in order to access the update, as Sony is currently requiring.
6) Sony should compensate consumers for any damage to their computers caused by the infected products, including the time, effort, and expenditure required to remedy the damage or verify that their computer systems or networks were or were not altered or damaged by XCP or SunnComm MediaMax products.
I'm not buying any more Sony CD's until they do the above!
Watch out for backdoor computer programs.......2005-11-15
Sony has gone too far. Until they recall all XCP DRM discs and hand out free copies to exploited consumers then I will continue to boycott them. Five stars for Don't give Sony a penny till they make a full applogy for this mess. Don't buy this cd.
Can Seriously Damage Your Computer/DANGEROUS/Do NOT Buy.......2005-11-08
*Probably* this disc won't cause problems on non-computer players (or on Macs, apparently), but it can *seriously* damage your Windows-based computer even now, and probably destroy future versions of the operating system.
While there are numerous Bad Possibilities inherent in using this disc's proprietary player software on any existing Windows 95/98/NT/2K/ME/XP system which result in annoyances and problems that can be worked around, i read recently that F-Secure tested it on Windows Longhorn/Vista and discovered that it completely destroyed that operating system.
As reported at http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/10/sony-rootkits-and-digital-rights.html (which has been cited in other reviews of copy-protected CDs), this CD requires you to use its proprietary player software to listen to it on your computer, in order t prevent you from making more than three copies of the music.
This player installs dangerous (and very poorly written, making it more dangerous) malware called a "rootkit", which is undetectable and almost unremovable, even by the top virus/spyware protection products, on your system without your knowledge or permission.
The installed malware is unstable, resulting in the possibility of system crashes or data corruption, and removing it is likely to render your computer's CD or DVD discs completely unuseable.
And, beyond that, because of how poorly written this thing is, it provides a handy back door for any malicious person to install undectable worms or other malware on your computer.
Don't buy this disc or any other from SONY/BMG until they stop packaging them with this dangerous malware.
(Actual star rating is about Negative 1000, but Amazon's system won't allow that.)
This CD will break your PC.......2005-11-08
Don't play this CD on your PC, it does something that screws up the operating system. I had to re-install Windows :-(

believe it or not..........2007-02-25
For those of you who went to see this movie back in 2001, will remember the music. At this point, it doesn't really matter what other people think. I personally was a little bit sceptical when I read the reviews about the soundtrack. I remember that the music, which has a mix of alternative rock and some club-based score by the ever astounding BT, had a certain quality to it. It spoke to its generation for its time. Though I do see what the fuss is all about. True. The soundtrack has copy protected material permanently housed on the cd that may not play on all audio players or computers. That doesn't mean it should be disregarded from the curious. It deserves a second look, or a first look for the kids of today. The cd contains some fairly clean music, though it may not appeal to everyone.
If you've heard the likes of Saliva, Hoobastank, Digital Assasins, and BT, the sounds should be familiar. Ultimately, there has been advancements since they manufactured the cd. As I read, one reviewer stated that the cd would not play in their car stereo, portable cd palyer, home stereo, dvd player ect. As I thought this to be true, which I'm sure it was, I avoided purchasing the cd. To my surprise I was able to play it in my SONY portable, HP laptop, Dell PC, and download it to my Ipod nano (first generation). So by this time I think that they might have worked all of the bugs out of it. See for yourself. If you are still sceptical, then I would recommend that you listen to the audio files provided by amazon as well as your heart to see if this is right for you. Or if you are looking to buy at a music retailer, if defective, make sure you get a full refund (cash) provided by the store policy. thank you.
Some Music from Fast and Furious other songs inspired by.......2007-01-14
Copy Protection is a joke and this should be recalled by Universal/Island. If its true about Sony knowingly using hidden programs on the disc (not a CD) I will be one unhappy camper. Sony/Universal/Island should be ashamed of themselves for letting this be released in the first place. NEGATIVE STARS recall this disc and reissue it with ALL the songs from the film non copy protected so I can enjoy the music on my ipod. A newly released edition of Fast and Furious The complete soundtrack I'd buy that for a dollar.
They still don't get it..........2007-01-06
So the first soundtrack was the rap essentials (or filler as I call it) and this soundtrack is the rock essentials but they still don't get it. The reason most people run out to buy a soundtrack is because they loved the music played throughout the film, and they still fail to include some of the main tracks we loved, songs by bands like Live and Dope that should have made it are substituted by multiple tracks by mediocre bands. Sure, I was glad to see `Superstar' show up, but why `Click Click Boom' is here is beyond me, and while I love `This Life' and `Crashing Around You' I don't see how they have anything to do with the movie. Next time instead of included THREE tracks by BT give us what the movie promised because, believe it or not, that's what we wanted to hear!
Lost song.......2006-03-22
I just wanted to let you know about a copyright situation. In this movie there is a part where they are sitting in a mexican food restuarant and there is a song playing in the back round. That song is not listed on the song track and I think it should be. The song is Atrevido by Orishas. I think this is wrong.
Do not buy any Sony CDs.......2005-11-16
Do not buy this CD or any other CD either made by Sony or labeled "Copy Protected". These CDs are known to be infected with DRM and contain programs that compromise the usability and security of your computer. Anti-virus programs are now classifying these DRM programs as rootkits and are cleaning them off of the infected computers.

Album Description
ARIEL PINK'S Worn Copy is a piece of work. Epic and grand in scale (seventeen songs clocking in over 70 minutes), Worn Copy is the history of popular music as revealed through the eyes and ears of ARIEL PINK. It's an impassioned combinatory view of popular and unpopular culture that takes in everything from THE CURE, R. STEVIE MOORE and AMON DUUL to forgotten episodes of THE GONG SHOW, IT'S YOUR MOVE, and WHAT'S HAPPENING? Originally released in 2003 by the Rhystop label and now featuring a bonus video of "For Kate I Wait", Worn Copy is re-seeing the light of day on the ANIMAL COLLECTIVE'S Paw Tracks imprint
Customer Reviews:
A lo-fi mind-blower.......2007-03-17
Some have said this Mr. Ariel Pink character is some sort of "outsider" artist a la Daniel Johnston, although the fact that he lives in Los Angeles and seems quite capable of writing, performing, producing, recording and even releasing his own material would belie that assertion. Imagine, if you will, an FM radio station that plays pop/rock hits from the '60s, '70s and '80s starts transmitting its broadcasts into deep space, and is received by some very strange aliens who know nothing of Earth culture. They assume these sounds are a form of direct communication with them, and they reply by naively trying to replicate the sounds they hear. "Worn Copy" is the result. Many of these songs could be long-lost psychedelic nuggets, or melodic 70's pop, or New Wave obscurities, played on a standard, if lo-fi, guitar/bass/drums/synth lineup. However, they're smothered in tape hiss and echo and all manner of bizarre sound effects--some songs seem to be interrupted by advertising jingles! The vocals are often hard to decipher, but considering the song "Oblivious Peninsula" seems to mainly consist of repeating that nonsense phrase, one gets the feeling it doesn't really matter, and what to make of a title like "Immune to Emotion"? It also doesn't matter if this is the product of a genuine outsider or just some dadaist art prank, 'cause in the end it comes off as a sincere, but gloriously failed, attempt by some odd individual, gripped both by nostalgia and obsession, to recreate a time when "lying in bed, with the covers pulled up over your head/radio played so no one could hear it" (as the Ramones once put it) was just the oultimate in bliss. In short: one the strangest, but most interesting, pop albums you're ever likely to hear.
an astounding and utterly unique recording artist.......2006-09-22
low tech and brilliant, music that seems to have channeled Zappa, Winchester Cathedral, and god knows what else. incredibly funny, and then suddenly sad. mr pink is a genius, you betcha. and he explains what it is and how it is to live here in this strange quasi-city in the shadow of the industry, in the curiously full and fun wasteland of other people's dreams.
The Henry Darger of the music world........2006-01-01
Somewhere deep the in Hollywood hills, recording on some broken tape recorder, is this monstrosity, Ariel Pink. Was there a weirder release this year? Sounding like an FM radio from an alien planet that's currently undergoing their "70s moment" he flies in your face with the strangest songs I have ever heard of. Where did he get these melodies and these lyrics? Many have criticised him of ripping off shampoo commercials or radio ads for new cars, this is true. His work sounds like remnants of a PR company specializing in the chessiest music for the cheesiest third world country. But this is exactly where his genius lies, he has an ear for these melodies that seem to stick onto your subconcious and stay there forever. His lyrics are horrifyingly opposite of whatever his actual music sounds like. Lyrics dealing with satanism, the end of the world, being broke. This music is unlike any indie rock, any noise, any freak folk. This is the sound of popular culture stabbing itself in the brain. Epics run into diddies that run into symphonic broken walls running into kiddie pools. The music is recorded on Ariel's analogue 8 track which produces the blurriest and crappiest sound imaginable, but it works for what he is creating. It's like watching 70s television on a giant old 70s TV set, blurred color & creaking dials. I had a chance to see Ariel in concert, and he's just as strange as his music sounds, traipsing around stage dressed in what looked like a rainbow brite reject costume singing through a broken fuzzy mike with a strange backup band all replicating exactly what you hear on his records, which is just crazy and weird and catchy. Ariel is great, he's a true outsider and largely misunderstood by the music press. This album is one of the great releases of 2005 and MUST have for anyone interested in music that you just can't find or hear anywhere else.

Recall.......2007-01-10
Sony recalled this cd b/c of an issue with the cd software. It doesnt play in cd players and wont be able to go onto your mp3 players.
RIP.......2006-10-25
It's a shame Acceptance disbanded. Phantoms was a great showcase of the bands
potential. Jason Vena is a great vocalist, and the lyrics better than average
(permanent), and the melodies are nice. It's unfortunate we'll never know how they progressed.
One of the best albums of 2005.......2006-09-23
I bought this album after hearing the song Differnt online or on the Radio and I had no idea what I was in for. Despite the overly-paranoid anticopy encodings they have on the disc that makes it close to impossible to upload to your computer (to your own programs) the songs them selves are amazing. They're honestly is no song on the CD that I didn't like.
With amazing melodies and musicallity to back it up; each song flowing well into eactother, it literally takes the listener through a show if you listen to the CD (complete with instumental intermission which is really good).
I do not write many reviews and I own a lot of music and this is just one that I felt I had to comment on.
I honestly believe this is one of the best cds I have ever purchased and listened to and the best thing about it is that its not even recognized that much, you don't hear much about it.
I also got a chance to see them live and they are pretty good live as well.
OMG.......2006-05-07
OMG OMG OMG i absolutely love love love this band! all the songs on this album are great! in my opinion, take cover, so contagious, the letter and glory/us are the best ones but i love them all...so anyways, shut up about your sony problem and just enjoy this wonderful music!
On account of SONY..........2006-03-16
[...] I am absolutly ENRAGED at sony, who took it apon themselves to stop 'illigal copying,' which consists of less than 3% of musical exchange in this day and age. And they basically screwed the other innocent 97% percent of us, whose computers were ruined and our innocence raped. And considering once you own a Windows/Microsoft system, you will not want to fork over the money for a Mac just because of something like this, doesn't do any justice. Sony needs to realize what a truly awful mistake it make with this kind of thing, and pay their customers for new cds and NEW COMPUTERS. Its not just a matter of a bad cd: its a broken computer.

An total waste of time.......2006-02-11
Every other reggie album is great. This one should have stayed
un-releashed, as it was originaly "lost". This would have been
a great bootleg, but should not have been released commercialy.
This isnt as heavy or as good as other reggie albums. The sound
quality sucks. The song titles are unique, but this really is
not a overall good album. The usual crap appears, techno, pop-
punk and some metal. I found it boring and un-enjoyable. If
your new to reggie do not buy this album.
Very impressive.......2003-12-13
I saw Reggie and the Full Effect open for Alkaline Trio on the Vagrant Tour in Cleveland..They were impressive. I hadn't heard any of their stuff before seeing their performance, but I was immeditaly hooked. Very catchy tunes, lots of onstage energy, and you could just feel the music. They also covered Raining Blood by Slayer which was really cool. Not only are these guys good musicians, but they're FUNNY as hell too! These guys are definatly worth checking out if you're into punk/emo or you just wanna try something new.
Funny stuff.......2002-11-10
Ok, so this is NOT emo. I don't know if many of you know this, but New Found Glory and Midtown are most definitely NOT emo. I think they would fall under the pop/punk, or maybe just the horrible music category. Reggie and the Full Effect doesn't really have a genre, and that is good. It is just a fun CD to listen and laugh to. Boot to the Moon and Gloves are my two favs.
Good songs, but not enough of 'em!.......2002-09-02
Too many skits - not enough songs. Granted, some of the skits are hilarious, no doubt, but, these guys know how to write some damn good tunes - should have put a few more no kidding songs on the album...
Actually a 4.5.......2002-06-04
This is a great album. It is so much fun to listen to with some great emo punk with keyboard-electronic background music. You can't take this album seriously, it is meant to be funny. The lyrics are ridiciously simple but you don't care cause your busy doing the robot dance in your car to the music. You just can't help but rock out with this cd. Most of the songs are really good even though they are kind of kidding around. Some of the members of the Get Up Kids are part of this made up band. It sounds like no other emo or punk band you've ever heard but you should enjoy it if you like some of the more pop sounding emo punk style, especially if you like the Get Up Kids. My favorites are #13,2,3,8 and all other songs.
