5 out of 5 stars a classic everyone should own.......2002-10-15

Some of the best jazz I've heard--just bass and saxophone by two masters. It's simple but beautiful and each song send happy chills up your spine. Just listen to the amazing minor melody in Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most," the soulfulness of "Since I Fell for You," and the great interplay and humor of "Mack the Knife." Person and Carter complement each other so well, they should have recorded way more music. As it is, this in an incredible box set worth every penny.

Why is this box set out of print? I don't know, but if you can find it, snap it up immediately--it's that good.

5 out of 5 stars A Stunning Mix of Artistry and Technical Proficiency.......2001-04-09

This album is truly one of the best showcases of complementary instrumental technique that I have ever seen (been following jazz since 1958). In fact I would have to rate it as one of the top ten albums in all of my collection (200+). Person's sax presents a spare yet hauntingly clear melody line throughout and Carter supplies a solid bass line that is at times as melodic as the sax. Carter's riff on Mack the Knife alone is worth the price of the album. This is thinking people's jazz, but still rhythmically free and emotionally warm. And it's a good deal as well...two disks for one money!

I am a long-time Johnny Winter fan and own most of his releases.
This was a total waste of money. It is absolutely the most poorly recorded CD I own. What you can hear of Johnny is great as
always, but the sound quality is incredibly bad. Buy this only if you want a prime example of how a CD should NOT sound.
