5 out of 5 stars The Best of Poison.......2007-04-04

This is a good copulation of their work. A recommended purchase for Poison fans.

4 out of 5 stars I always liked this band, no matter how many other people hate it :).......2007-01-22

Poison is one of those 1980s bands that became "unfashionable" after the 1990s grunge craze, and is now looked upon with almost universal scorn. Reviled for their big hair, spandex clothing, and simple song structures, almost nobody even admits to liking them, but I still do! For one thing, who cares if 80s music is no longer hip and trendy? Time waits for nobody, and all music eventually becomes old. The grunge music that replaced hair metal is every bit as dated as hair metal itself is, and I don't see people bashing Nirvana or Soundgarden for being "90s has beens" do you? Nothing stays hip and trendy forever. And the other argument used against Poison is that their music isn't complicated or technically complex, it only has 3 chords, and doesn't require any talent to play. Has it ever occured to you hair metal bashers that there is more to music than lightning fast guitar solos that are so impossible that nobody can play them? Sometimes 3 chords is enough to make an impression on the listener, even if it isn't hard to play. In fact, virtually all rock stars s*ck at playing their instruments. You only need to look at all the Avril Lavigne, Green Day, U2, Nickelback and Nirvana songs that have ever hit #1 on the rock charts to realize that. Nobody thinks anything less of these people for playing 3 chords on their guitars, so why should it be any different for poison? I think this band has always been underrated.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-01-03

My fav CD right now. I listen to it on my long commute to and from work. It's the only thing that keeps me sane in the rush hour traffic. This CD is a must for every CD collection.

5 out of 5 stars This guy is great!!!.......2007-02-22

I have loved Bobby Rydell (my little Italian boy) since I was a teenager.
Met him in Ocean City, Md. in the late 50's at a Buddy Dean record hop & was impressed at how sweet he was. I've had a crush ever since! Would love to see him again & know what's happeing in his life (children, career,
etc.) This CD is wonderful & brought back a lot of good memories.

5 out of 5 stars "Tremendous And Sad".......2007-02-02

This has to be the most tremendous collection of Boby Rydell music put out! Nothing is ever ever perfect and even though "The Fish"is not included, so be it. By the Way, "Butterfly Bay" was a hit of his I believe within the summer of 1963.

Now, what is sad and it has nothing to do with this CD. I believe that from about '61 into'63 his talents were developing at an enormous clip. During the summer of '63 he had a STARRING role with Ann Margaret, Dick Van Dyke, and Paul Lynde in the HUGE movie "Bye Bye Birdie" and within the movie he sang a very moving song, "One Boy" with Ann Margaret. This is one of the most beautiful duets that I've ever seen and heard. The movie was a huge success. He followed the movie up with a touching and very big hit record,"Forget Him". That, sadly, became his swan song. Many americans truly did, very ashamedly, did "Forget Him".I feel as though with the movie "Bye Bye Birdie" and the two touching songs, "One Boy" (With Ann Margaret within the movie) and and the big hit, "Forget Him", which followed the movie, he was on his way to super stardom in both the recording fields and that of motion pictures. That is until the Beatles SQUASHED him with their fluff. He had (has) more talent within his little finger than all four of The Beatles ever had. In fact, his talents outweighed all of the fluff of the British artists that suddenly began to flood our american airwaves including not only The Beatles, but The Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, Gerry and the Pace Makers, Hermans Hermets, and even many of the american artists such as The Beach Boys, etc. I'm even including groups like "The Hollies", etc. as producers of fluff that crushed Bobby Rydell. It was so very unfair when he was being totally cut out when his total talent was becoming more and more evident and more than likely super stardom was on the horizon. He was crushed by fluff.

It's tremendous that the CD is available and it's sad what The Beatles and other "artists" plus what the american public did to him. Shameless.

5 out of 5 stars Brings you back in time.......2007-01-11

Just listening to this cd makes me think of another, younger time in my
life (not that I'm that old). Real music nostalgia for those who grew up
in the 60's. This is a definitely a must have cd for fans of rock and roll
and just good listening music.

4 out of 5 stars Nostalgic moments!.......2006-08-26

I remember seeing Bobby Rydell on stage back in the '50's at home in New Zealand. This CD has everything I need to enjoy that era!

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!.......2006-08-08

WITH A VOICE LIKE BOBBY'S, IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE HE DIDN'T HAVE BIGGER HITS. THIS CD HAS AN EXCELLENT VARIETY OF STYLES. I RECOMMEND THIS CD TO ANYBODY WHO ENJOYS OLDIES.

This guy is wonderful. I should have bought all his albums when they first came out. Could'nt afford them then. It is great to find sites like Amazon who have them.

5 out of 5 stars A great collection!.......2007-05-17

If you are a fan of Bobby Vee's music, then this collection is a must! It contains all of his big hits, such as"Take Good Care of My Baby","Run to Him"and my personal favorite"Devil or Angel". His vocals sound so good-you'll love it!

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of Bobby Vee.......2006-06-29

The CD is truly the very best of Bobby Vee's works. A delightful CD. Even my college age children enjoy the music. Really worth the money

5 out of 5 stars Time Machine.......2006-03-08

So if you have ever wanted to take a trip in a time machine, you've got a ticket to the mid sixties with this disc. Bobby Vee recorded some great songs and some corny songs. They are all here. Best part is the sound quality and channel separation are both excellent. Buddy Holly did a few select recordings known as the "string sessions" utilizing violin sections as accompanyment. All of these Bobby Vee cuts use this theme. Try it and you'll love it.

5 out of 5 stars The very best indeed.......2005-07-28

I grew up listening to Bobby Vee, and this CD is awsome! I would recomend this to any Bobby Vee lover!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great selections from a vast catalog. .......2006-05-20

I normally loathe greatest hits collections. Naturally they contain the songs every one knows and loves from an artist, but what usually gets me is that they in a lot of instances omit the other songs of that performer's catalog, that while not as popular, are every bit as good. In a lot of cases these songs are essential to grasping that artist. This collection of gems from the pride of Muscle Shoals, Alabama does a fine job capturing the essence of Mr. Bobby Womack. All of the hits are here, from "Womans Gotta Have It", "That's The Way I Feel About Cha", the classic "If You Think Your Lonely Now" (covered tremendously by K-Ci by the way) and what Womack greatest hits would be complete without "Across 110th Street"? My standout personal favorite is the soul stirring "Harry Hippie".

Womacks' vocals are so on point on this and virtually every song on this collection. He is without a doubt one of soul music's most important voices, and this cd testifies to that effect. My only complaint is a few too many covers. The versions of "All Along The Watchtower", "California Dreaming" and "Sweet Caroline" are nothing special. They could have been replaced by other songs less known to someone prone to buy a greatest hits cd, thus drawing them deeper into the artist. Again that is why I usually avoid GH albums even when getting to know an artist for the first time. I'll start with the most popular album, then work my way through. Though it may take a little longer, it's usually more fulfilling to do it that way. Other than my lil hangup, this is a strong assemblage of Womack's music, and the price is usually perfect for those looking to dig up on some great soul music by him, possibly for the first time.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have Soul Music.......2005-06-10

I purchased this CD from My local Record Store at a good price, I didn't know if it was "original" recordings or not, I suspected the EMI stuff was the original recordings, but I was unsure of the MCA tracks....of course, the Store employees don't know Bobby Womack, let alone would know if these were the true original recordings...Well, they are, which makes this THE Bobby Womack CD to own. You get the rich 1972-74 Material, which is as good as Soul gets, plus the cream of the 80's, notably "if You think your'e lonely now", on one fabulous disc. Those who bought/and or considered buying Bobby Womack's Greatest Hits (on Right Stuff) should note that this CD contains "across 110th Street" and "Love has finally come at last (with Patti Labelle)"...The above 3 mentioned tracks are missing from Greatest Hits...

5 out of 5 stars A teenybopper with talent..........2006-07-27

I love bubblegum music, and no one did it better than Bobby Sherman. This is an excellent collection to start with. Bobby actually wrote some of his own material, and played many instruments. He actually had talent and a brain, unlike many teen idols, past and present. With the great tracks La La La (If I Had You), Hey, Mister Sun, Cried like a Baby, to more obscure (but still wonderful) songs like Together Again (off of the very rare Just for You LP), Bubble Gum and Braces, and Goin' Home (Sing a Song of Christmas Cheer, my favorite track off his Christmas album), this is a wonderful collection, must better than the previous "very best of" album. If you dig the Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch (their music, not their TV shows), you will really go for Bobby. He's now a paramedic in California, and not really involved with show business anymore, but that's OK. We still have these wonderful songs. Thanks, Bobby..

Hail to bobby sherman! Now HE WAS THE ULTIMATE PIN UP POSTER! WHAT A GOOD LOOKING MALE. BOBBY'S CD WAS ENJOYABLE TO LISTEN TO WHILE I WAS DOING MY NAILS AND JUST FLASHBACKING TO THAT ERA WHEN I WAS IN MY 'TWEENS'! WOW, WHAT AN ERA I WILL NEVER FORGET.

4 out of 5 stars Music to boost your mood!.......2002-10-08

It was wonderful to discover two terrific songs on this CD that were lingering at the fringes of my memories from 1970: "Hey, Mister Sun" and "La La La." Both songs are wonderfully positive with a great sound, and alone make the CD worthwhile. Of course there are also the bigger hits here like "Little Woman" and "Julie, Do Ya Love Me?," and those are essential to any Bobby Sherman collection, but they were awfully overplayed. At least now I know what the young girls understood long ago: this guy could put out some darned good songs. A nice touch is that the year of release and chart position is listed along with each song on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Groovy, baby!.......2002-08-16

I just found this compilation and it's great. All of Bobby's hits and a few should-have-been hits wrapped up in a nicely packaged CD. Lots of interesting tidbits about Bobby's music career and his life before and after his stardom. This is a good one!

He has an amazing range and versitility. I think there was a PBS documentary about him that says he is a teacher. I like that. I also like this CD.

5 out of 5 stars perfect indeed.......2006-11-10

A top CD technical high level sound and of course a real good perfomance!

3 out of 5 stars Interesting but ultimately disappointing........2004-02-21

Let's be clear, Bobby is a genius. His efforts on this this CD however are not up to his true talents. I have enjoyed some of his more inspired work with Yo-Yo Ma or The Vienna Philharmonic more than some of the well-meaning but trite work of this CD.

I enjoy this collection very much. I listen to it all the time while traveling.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Bobby Bear.......2007-03-09

This has got to be the best CD that Bobby Bear has out there all the favorite songs and more . I was so please with this CD the price was great and this CD is very hard to find in stores a must for Bobby bare Fans.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad; Could be Better.......2005-01-07

I think Bobby Bare clung to country music despite his early success (1962) with "Shame on Me", much beloved by a LOT of country music lovers I know but not a hardcore country song by any means. But this package has one of my very favorites, "Just to Satisfy You", later covered by Waylon Jennings, also not hardcore country. With "Detroit City", Bobby knew what his future would be; it was followed by "500 Miles From Home" (a variation on other renditions) and a lot of other listenable hits. I would like to have seen "That's How I Got to Memphis" written by Tom T. Hall in this compilation, but what IS here is good. Bobby had one of the great voices in modern country music. I recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars Bareing Down.......2002-07-14

Bobby Bare's Detroit City CD should be in every home.

I don't usually listen to lyrics, but his lyrics on Detroit City
are humorous and logical. Tequila Sheila is a bombshell!

Best known for his early rock hits such as "Splish Splash," by the early '60s Bobby Darrin had pretty much abandoned rock and recast himself as something of a finger poppin', tuxedo wearing, youth-camp version of Sinatra. Surprisingly, it worked. While he lacks Frank's chops, the swinging "By the Sea" and "Mack The Knife" are two of the best latter-day Sinatra imitations, and there's no denying his light touch on "Lazy River." He even had the guts to take on "Guys and Dolls," a song identified with the Chairman. As good as this album is, it only gives a fraction of Darrin's talents. For a broader picture (including his late 60's transformation into a jeans wearing folkie), check out Rhino's Darrin box, As Long As I'm Singing. --Steven Mirkin

5 out of 5 stars Darrin the best.......2005-09-07

Bobby Darrin was one of the best, Sinatra was the King, Darrin was the Prince , first in line to the throne , I was in the English Pub in NYC the day it came over the air that Darrin had died on the operating table, We knew he was sick, but not that sick, Sadly missed by all fan's of quality music throughout the world, This album is a Five Star recording, A must for the Darrin fan. Bobby's sitting on a cloud looking down, snapping his finger's in time and smiling.

This has become one of my alltime favorite albums, and the best of the five Darin albums I've got.

"Mack the Knife" is one of the greatest songs ever. Lots of people have done this, including Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, but no one touches Bobby Darin's version here. This song will live as long as bars have jukeboxes. "Lazy River" is strangely evocative; it somehow combines the hazy, lazy sense with his ferocious delivery. "Beyond the Sea" is right up there with "Mack the Knife." I believe it has undertones of being with the one you love, after death. It's one of the most romantic songs ever.

His "Guys and Dolls" just assassinates this song. It swings like crazy. All the blues numbers in here - "Was There A Call for Me" "I Guess I'm Good For Nothing But the Blues" "Black Coffee" and "Pete Kelly's Blues" - are fine. They draw vivid pictures in the imagination; Darin sells them completely.

"Clementine" is politically incorrect but true to the original and still wonderful; you wouldn't think a corny traditional song like that could be delivered with 10 tons of dynamite like he does. Ditto "Bill Bailey." (This was something he apparently excelled at, resuscitating traditional songs most vocalists wouldn't bother with and making them work.)

Darin wrote "Artificial Flowers" and shows that social consciousness wasn't the sole property of folk-singing pukes with acoustic guitars. At least two people I know cried when I first played this song for them.

"I Didn't Know What Time It Was" and "Just Friends" make a pair on this album that has private meaning for me: My first foray into jazz in college involved Charlie Parker; the first Bird album I ever had also had versions of these two songs on it. This is the only other album I know that does both - I'd never heard the words before - and this says something about the versatility of both the standards songbook and Bobby Darin. Bebopper on the one hand, rock `n roller cum Vegas singer on the other hand.

"Skylark" - you can just see the bluest of skies when he sings this. "Christmas Auld Lang Syne" almost makes me want to celebrate Christmas. (I'm Jewish.) I think it speaks to Christmas as people imagine they'd like to have it.

4 out of 5 stars SHARIN' DARIN.......2004-11-15

It strikes me that the individual human response to music is one of life's most intriguing mysteries. What is that unexplainable thing inside us that resonates to a certain combination of musical notes, or to the tonal quality of particular instruments, but not others? And why is this response not universal?

For me, the melody of MY FAVORITE THINGS is so pretty, so clever, so powerful that I can't hear it once without it bouncing around inside my skull for the next several hours. And yet I know people who are apathetic about it. How can that be? We even find this mystery taking place between people who inhabit the same musical orbit. The "King Of Rock 'N' Roll" might have two devoted fans; the first who loves SUSPICIOUS MINDS and MEMORIES, but is not overly thrilled by HOUND DOG and IN THE GHETTO. The second fan's opinion is the complete reversal.

Some might think that this is comparable to our myriad responses to food flavors, but in that example there is a physiological explanation - something to do with chemical reactions in the glands, the taste buds. With music it's entirely intangible; some "it" within the inner being that responds, makes the body move, the toes tap, the mind rejoice. . .or mourn.

That "it" within me loves Bobby Darin's music, but "it" is selective. "It" doesn't care for Darin's pop hits, of which only a few appear on this collection. And although "it" digs LAZY RIVER which has one of the greatest, most energetic vocal performances ever, we play this album for the fabulously moving standard ballads (some with big band arrangements.) WAS THERE A CALL FOR ME; I GUESS I'M GOOD FOR NOTHING BUT THE BLUES; DON'T DREAM OF ANYBODY BUT ME; WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MADE; BLACK COFFEE; SKYLARK; and even CHRISTMAS AULD LANG SYNE, these are the reasons you find me in this place. "It" likes 'em!

There is a certain something, a quality, in Darin's voice that can be discerned on his ballads; an innate melancholia that can't be taught, nor faked. I have found this in the voices of only two other singers: the jazz vocalist, Astrud Gilberto, and Karen Carpenter, who had it in spades! In fact, so much so that it sometimes bled through even on her uptempo numbers like TOP OF THE WORLD and SING. It's a kind of faint whisper of an intense inner aloneness, or a vague remembrance of something; a wistful yearning for what has passed and can't be retrieved, like a dream of something that glowed golden way back when, in the recesses of the mind. Hell, I don't know what it is, but "it" sure loves it! Anyway, that quality permeates so much of these recordings and that's why "it" makes me play them so often.

If you know what I'm yakking about here, and if it appeals to your "it" too, then also obtain a used copy of the "out-of-print", 'CLASSIC DARIN' if you can locate one at a reasonable price. This collection also contains many ballad tracks like WHERE LOVE HAS GONE; FLY ME TO THE MOON; A TASTE OF HONEY; SOFTLY, AS I LEAVE YOU; and SOMEWHERE with Bobby's "blue" voice thang goin' on.

According to his 2004, July 14th review, it seems that The Big Dong, doesn't have this same "it" inside of him. You think maybe I should go see if his priest can exorcise my "it" too?

3 out of 5 stars It has his swingers, but too many ballads, which Darrin.......2004-07-14

Daris was many things a 50's rock'n'roller teeny bopper, a rockon' cowboy, and a vegas swingin' lounger, but he COULD NOT sing ballads. He just doesn't do well with songs like Black Coffee, when he sings a 3 minute ballad it seems like 10 minutes of terror. This cd does however have his greatest swinger son one cd Artificial Flowers, Beyond The Sea, and Mack The Knife, with a few midtempos taht he handles well by rockin' and rollin' hsi way thru swing standards liek Bill Bailey, Down With Love and Clemintine. A good cd, if only there were no ballads and all swingers! Still a good disc!

5 out of 5 stars the PERFECT Darin collection.......2004-03-04

OK. I finally found the PERFECT Darin collection! The range of genres, the hits, the misses--this has it all! A great companion to this all-studio collection is the 3-CD box set "Rock & Roll Legends," in which Darin has his own disc, featuring LIVE versions of "Splish Splash," "Plain Jane," "Dream Lover," and "Mack The Knife" (the ONLY song to overlap with "Best Of Bobby Darin Vol. 2"). Though "Best Of Bobby" gives you ALL the goodies, "Rock & Roll Legends" lets you hear how Darin laid on the spangle in his stage show; it's a heart-stealing, mood-changing ten-tracker that sits nicely beside the "Best."

Speaking of the trip down Memory Lane - this is it. Bobby's voice,in pure form, will bring the past alive for you.

1 out of 5 stars The Worst Song of All Time.......2006-04-21

CNN Eye on Entertainment named "Honey" the worst song of all time. I whole heartedly agree. Just listen to the lyrics. Absolutely pathetic!

4 out of 5 stars Original recordings remastered.......2005-11-04

As another reviewer pointed out, this compilation stands out among all of the Bobby Goldsboro collections. This fine selection contains the original recordings remastered beautifully. BEginning with the world famous hit "Honey", you just know you have got yourself a great CD. My all time favourite "Summer, the first time" is included and is such a spine tingling song - haunting and beautiful. Also included on this compilation are his impressive covers of "I am a rock" and "And I love you so".

If you are looking for the best Bobby compilation, this is the one. It does not contain any of the re-recordings that he did in the early 90's (urgh).

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant pop singer of the sixties and seventies.......2005-06-13

Bobby was never a prolific hit-maker but he wrote and recorded plenty of great songs. Most of the best songs are included in this wonderful compilation, which primarily focuses on his American hits.

Bobby's biggest hit came with a song he didn't write - Honey, a song that many people have strong opinions about. Honey made number one in the American pop and country charts in 1968. It also made number two in the UK pop charts that year. Re-released in the UK in 1975, Honey again made number two. Many singers have covered this song but the strangest cover is that by Tammy Wynette, who adapted the lyrics, taking the role of the woman who died in the song and singing from beyond the grave, even apologizing for dying.

Bobby's first American hit came in 1964 when he made the top ten with See the funny little clown. Apart from Honey, he never again made the American top ten though he came close with Little things (a UK top five hit for Dave Berry) and Watching Scotty grow. His other American top forty hits were Summer the first time (which made the UK top ten for Bobby), Autumn of my life, Voodoo woman (different from Bobby's usual mellow style - this one has an R+B feel to it), Whenever he holds you, It's too late, The straight life and Blue autumn. Bobby had other American hits that didn't make the top forty including With pen in hand (written by Bobby but it had previously been a hit for both Billy Vera and Vikki Carr), And I love you so (a cover of a Don McLean song that gave Perry Como a major international hit) and I'm a drifter. The compilation is completed by Bobby's cover of I am a rock (Simon and Garfunkel).

This compilation does not contain every Bobby Goldsboro song worth having. For example, it omits Hello summertime (a UK top twenty hit) and Cowboy and the lady (covered by Dolly Parton as Cowgirl and the Dandy for her album, Here you come again). Nevertheless, this is a very strong compilation of Bobby's music.

It is worth noting (in case you're tempted by a track listing of a rival compilation) that some compilations contain inferior re-recordings I do not mind re-recordings as such, but with Bobby's music, it is wise to stick with the originals. If you only want one compilation of Bobby's original recordings, this is the one to choose. If you decide to buy a different compilation, make sure that you know what you're buying.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-01-07

I really enjoyed this disc. Bobby Goldsboro is best known for "Honey" but I like some of the lesser known songs even more. I rate 7 of the 15 songs as very good or excellent. My favorites are "I'm A Drifter" and "Autumn Of My Life".

If you like "Honey" but don't know many of the other songs, you won't be disappointed with this disc.
