Ultra Fantastic!!! This absoultely rocks!!!.......2001-08-22
This is one of the best albums ever created by Harry Hess and Pete Lesperance. They are two of the most underrated musicians and songwriters here in Canada. This album deserves some major recognition as one of the best of the year here in Canada or anywhere for that matter. Hopeless, Spinning Around, In The End, Happiness and the rocking Forgive are simply some of the best songs I have heard in a while. If you like pop-rock music that has meaningful and catchy lyrics that you can relate to with fantastic melodies, you will love this album.
Ultra Dissapointment.......2001-06-07
Rubber have returned with their second album, Ultra Feel. Darren Smith has now been replaced by new drummer Creighton Doane (brother of Melanie Doane, interestingly!), who is good, but no match for Smith. The band has written another batch of pop rock tunes, virtually interchangable with the songs on their self-titled debut.
Unfortunately, this album is even less memorable than the last. A couple great tunes, "Forgive" and "Another Nail In My Heart" (a cover, don't forget!) hint at what this band is capable of doing. The rest are more attempts to break rock radio. Rubber are quickly losing an identity, and a direction change would be smart if they make a third album. This is especially tragic considering their past as Harem Scarem.
Of note, Barry Donaghy (bass) is singing more lead vocals, which adds variety, but his voice is so bland compared to that of Harry Hess. Yet even Harry only really cuts loose with his amazing pipes on the track "Forgive".
Buy it if you liked the first. If you didn't, let's hope that Harry, Barry, Creighton, and guitar wizard Pete Lesperance can find some energy and inspiration for the next.

A Must Have!!.......2000-12-01
One of the best albums of the year. This is the most underrated Canadain band. This album combines the catchy lyrics from Harry with the guitar wizardry of Pete and it could not be more melodic. A absolute must buy for pop and melodic rock fans alike. You'll find yourself humming the tunes whereever you go; there is not one filler on the entire album. Like I said, an amazing album from a killer band. Rubber deserves a US deal and more exposure here in the States. Do you self a favour and pick this one up!!

Angelic ultra powerful voice that draws you in immediately. Fretless bassist is incredible. The lyrics and how they make you feel and think is intense. Eastern flavors mix with pop culture to form a finished cd of wonderful suprises in each song.

Scream of Consciousness PLEASE.......1999-06-10
Well, I thought "ToDaY" was perfect, but enter "Scream of Consciousness." Coadic topped herself with a heaping of lush musical landscapes and beautifully crafted poetry. I recommend this album highly. She just keeps getting better and better, and now she has a full band backing her up. It makes the songs sound incredible. WOW!!!!!!!!
Budding Blooms, Fulfilled Flowers, Water, Breath, & More.......1999-05-02
SCREAM is a tour-de-force through another wing of the mansion of Colleen Coadic's ever-seeking mind. The overall sound is quite different from that of ToDaY, with continuity in the intimacy and scope of her powerful exploration of what it is to live, seek, and grow as a spiritual being in human form. SCREAM is a jewel of promise fulfilled. Colleen's voice is transcendent--it flows through guileless folky melody, lusty purring funk-filled growl, and full-throated diva scream. The power and flexibility of Colleen's unparalleled vocalizations are mixed front-and-center on this album. One cannot listen to SCREAM and escape the realization of having borne aural witness to one of the great voices of all time. Another unique aspect to SCREAM is the presence of Colleen's band, The Next Twelve. I was pleased to discover that Colleen has found musicians equal to the task of playing on her elevated field. (Bassist Sean Cobb's playing is so tight, and so deep in the pocket that I'd like to ask him what the lint looks like.) My only regret regarding this album is that it is a clear harbinger of the day when it will not be possible to see Colleen in a club setting--it'll be the Fleet Center, or the Worcester Centrum soon! And I guess, as regrets go, that one's not so bad. My recommendation? Buy this CD, and buy ToDaY. They're fabulous!!! And then you'll be able to say, "Oh yeah. Colleen Coadic? I've been listening to her since her indie days." --Alice p.s. there's newsgroup about Colleen's music at sixdegress.com
