Album Description
Shake, Rattle and Polka, the new album from multi-Grammy(r) Award-winning artist Jimmy Sturr, follows in the footsteps of his previous Rock 'n Polka, fusing polka's effervescent backbeat to a host of early rock 'n' roll standards. Digging deeper into the rock 'n' roll songbook, Sturr's razor-sharp orchestra and an illustrious cast of guest vocalists team up to create a fresh, exhilarating sound that will appeal to both polka fans and an entirely new audience. Guest stars include Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, Duane Eddy, and Frankie Ford.

Spirited, energetic, infectious and stimulating.......2005-10-26
Playing Time - 31:48 -- By his junior year in high school, Jimmy Sturr, a young man of Irish descent, was fronting his Orchestra in Florida, New York, a fertile area to where European immigrants brought their culture, music and farming skills. Now, 14 Grammy Awards later, the big band is still primarily a polka band although its repertoire includes songs from rock `n' roll, country, Cajun and western swing works also. Nine polkas and three waltzes make up the set on "Shake, Rattle and Polka!" If you're not used to the beat, you might have a double take at a polka version of a song like "Maybellene" or "I Walk the Line" or "Rock Around the Clock." But, the bottomline is that the music is lively, and it's danceable. As is typical with the many releases from this group, Jimmy and the 14 musicians are also joined by many special guests on a few tracks apiece: Willie Nelson, Duane Eddy, Frankie Ford, Delbert McClinton, The Duprees, and Chris Eddy. For a slower favorite I perked up when The Duprees sang "You Belong To Me." Faster favorites are Willie singing "Blueberry Hill" and Delbert singing "Promised Land." The only instrumental is "Detour" featuring guitarist Duane Eddy.
A question on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" television show hosted by Regis Philbin, was "Who is America's polka king?" The contestant won $250,000 by correctly answering "Jimmy Sturr". This hard-working and prolific band tours extensively and has appeared in some very prestigious venues. Their music is spirited, energetic, infectious and stimulating. His creative approach has been to adapt hits from other genres to the polka tradition. So the American melting pot is also reflected in his own simmering musical cauldron. (Joe Ross, Roseburg, OR.)

Album Description
Many studies have linked a child's exposure to music with high achievement later in life. At Rocket Baby, we feel a child needs to be more than "exposed" to music at a young age, they need to be "immersed" in it. If listening expands the mind, imagine what listening, feeling, dancing and participating can do? By getting your child on their feet, or into your arms their entire body and mind are involved in the music.
Many children's CD's are designed to be listened to in the car on long trips or used to lull children to sleep. Rocket Baby - Shake, Rattle & Rhyme, on the other hand, is designed to get everyone out of their chairs, irresistibly moving to the music. Whether it is Samba, Cha-Cha or even the tango, each song puts the baby in your arms, or the toddler in your hands and you find yourself dancing together around the room.

Rocket Baby: Shake, Rattle & Rhyme.......2003-02-15
I truly recommend this cd for all ages. This cd is a creative way of incorporating the latin, jazzy, flavors into everyday children's rhymes. My fifteen month old son just loves dancing and moving to heavenly sounds of each track, especially, the salsa and merengue beat. Grandma is also grooving, too. It should be added to every child's music library.

A Great Talent with a Fresh Voice.......2007-01-08
Arthur Conley's style of singing has so much energy and joy, I never get tired of his music. The instrumentation is great too, lots of horns and background singers to round out and complement A.C.'s verve. This is truly Sweet Soul Music and any fan of James Brown or Otis Redding or Sam Cooke will find a lot to love here.

Shake, Rattle & Roll is a network TV four-hour miniseries about rock & roll's cultural influence in the late '50s as seen through the eyes of a fictitious couple and band called the HartAches. The blurring of the line between reality and fantasy continues in all aspects of the film and soundtrack. Modern-day rock stars portray both real music legends and fictional characters. As for the 21-song soundtrack, it's nearly all fiction. Nine of the tracks are by the HartAches, tackling the likes of "Slippin' and Slidin'" and "One Bad Stud" by Leiber & Stoller. Big Joe Turner's title track is covered by Dicky Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones with Dan Wilson of Semisonic. These "incredible simulations" might appeal to fans of the Commitments or the Blues Brothers. But for anyone with any sense of music history, the curious moment is B.B. King's performance of Bob Dylan and Tim Drummond's "Fur Slippers." --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
Neither Phish nor Foul.......2000-09-13
There are some decent oldies strewn around here, but they can be found in better suuroundings or original oldies compilations. The covers by contemporary artists such as Blink 182, Semisonic, and Blues Boy King may be of curious interest to completests.
The best of the "new" cuts made for this Made for TV mock-u-mentory, the sweet, sweet, Chante Moore vocal with the Emeralds on "WALL AROUND MY HEART", beats all. That cut is as strong as anything on the Tom Hanks produced film THAT THING YOU DO.
Honestly, if your heart is into remarks of oldies but goodies or you just can't pull your self away from your stratchy 45's, try the briliantly right-on GRACE OF MY HEART soundtrack (movie was ok too), or even the campy guest-fest by Shudder To Think, "First Love, Last Rites" (soundtrack).
...on the other hand, it's better than Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart.
Great Soundtrack to go with a great movie.......1999-11-16
I thought that this was a great soundtrack to go with a very entertaining movie. I love to listen to this CD to get me up and moving! I also love to sing all the songs!

Customer Reviews:
Great music, shame about the sound.......2005-01-09
The annotation on this Australian 1997 release is worthless, and the sound is mediocre, lacking depth and, well, clarity.
So don't buy it, eh?
Well, if you're a casual listener just looking for "Shake Rattle & Roll" and "Roll 'Em Pete", this is not the place to start. But if you're into Big Joe Turner, you will definitely want to pick up this album.
The sound is really not state-of-the-art, and audiophile will undoubtedly wrinkle their nose at this. But the music itself is really great...Joe Turner is is excellent form, delivering powerful yet seemingly effortless renditions of some of his best songs. Over the course of an hour, Turner does a terrific, dignified "Stormy Monday Blues", a great "Shake Rattle & Roll ", a gritty "TV Mama" with a prominent (and unfortunately unnamed) guitarist who does his best to emulate Elmore James, and a tremendous reading of the juicy R&B-stomper "Hide & Go Seek". "Honey Hush" and "Chicken & The Hawk" are here as well, and the band is tight yet supple, anchored by a great (unnamed) pianist and a small horn ensemble. And there is none of the meandering which plagues some of Turner's live recordings; both he and the orchestra are totally focused.
Great stuff, and Big Joe Turner's big, smooth baritone is in top form. It still isn't enough for a fifth star, not with this kind of fidelity (or lack thereof), but it's great stuff all the same.

Just ordered it.......2007-01-14
I downloaded a free song from this CD and the kids loved it! It's a very unusual version of "Itsy Bitsy Spider"...almost punk rockish but I just had to laugh when I heard it! It gets my 3½ yr. old twins laughing and giggling as well. I'm hoping the whole CD is just as fun. If it's not; I'll update!
