Recorded in Berlin and executive produced by the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, Rufus Wainwright's fifth album offers an ounce of restraint from the man that dressed up as Sir Lancelot's crossed girlfriend Lady Shallott on the cover of his last. Well, not really. Having fallen in love and curbed his self-destructive streak, the New York-born singer-songwriter has certainly sharpened his wit on Release the Stars but the songs remain as ornate and over-the-top as ever, drawing as much inspiration from opera and the musical theater as the desire to purge personal demons. So while Wainwright spends considerable time here pondering the state of the world ("Going to a Town") and his own battles with drug and sexual addiction ("Sanssouci"), every note is punctuated by a choir, orchestral swell, or big burst of brass. It wouldn't be Rufus with anything less. --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Better and Better.......2007-07-08
What I like best about this album is that it is emblematic of Rufus' ever-maturing talent, both in subject matter and musical stylings.
A few standouts: "Do I Disappoint You" (love this track - bombastic opening as only Rufus can do. Compare with "Oh What a World" and "Agnus Dei" from the Want One and Want Two CD's), "Going to a Town" (written about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina - and NOT Anti-American as some have said), "Slideshow" (love the melody, not sure how well the subject matter goes with it though), and "Tulsa" (wasn't sure about this one at first, but now I like it - and it's not really about sleeping with Brandon Flowers, as many seem to think).
All in all, this CD makes good listening. I can't wait to hear what Rufus will come out with next.
Such a drama queen..........2007-07-04
I've wanted to like Rufus. I've tried to like Rufus. I bought this just for "Going to a Town"- an amazing song, and the lyrics are spot-on. But the rest of the disc is so melodramatic and off-the-charts narcissistic that I find it completely unlistenable. Rufus, can't you rein it in just a little bit?
Still Gowing.......2007-06-29
Rufus has created four masterpiece albums before this one, and he is still growing in talent and direction! Too many artists write the same music album after album once they find success, but this is not the case here. Whereas, I cannot say this album is my favorite, it does grow on me more and more each time I listen to it. This album is quite different - give it your patience and you will be rewarded. It contains few catchy melodies that are accessible upon first hearing, but instead is full of sophisticated musicianship.
Listening is a lot of work...but.......2007-06-27
Purchased this CD solely based on the reviews, and WOW! It is fantastic! It is very complex, and listening to it the first few times feels a bit laborious, trying to take it all in. As it turns out, it is well worth it. What a crazy, soaring, smooth, quasi-operatic extravaganza. I especially like "Release the Stars." It makes you feel like standing up on top of your desk, spreading your arms out wide, and belting it out yourself.
He produced Himself, thats all you have to say!.......2007-06-27
I love Rufus. His music if full and gorgeous.....and the title track on this Cd is an example of that. My only complaint... if it were possible... that this might be a little too much Rufus.

When Elliott Smith died late in 2003, he took with him one of the unique songwriting gifts of his generation: part folk grandeur, part punk fury, and virtually bottomless in eight short years of solo recordings. Thankfully for that generation, and many to come, he left behind two dozen songs that his Portland, Oregon, producer and pal Larry Crane has crafted into a retrospective celebration of Smith's contribution to music. Mostly house-recorded demos plucked from the fertile three years that followed his 1994 debut Roman Candle (including an early take of "Miss Misery"), there's an eminent clarity to these songs that makes them sound like they were recorded yesterday. A lone acoustic guitar is the general accompaniment to Smith's lamenting wail, his self-deprecating lyrics forever a contrast to the sheer beauty of the melodies. "What are you doing hanging out with me?" he asks in "Whatever (Folk Song in C)," his double-tracked harmonies mocking both Simon and Garfunkel. Along with fragile versions of "Angel in the Snow," "Looking over My Shoulder," and a cover of Big Star's "Thirteen," it's as eternal as anything Smith offered when he was with us, and, as one of several shining moments, makes you forget he ever left. --Scott Holter

Album Description
Disc One: 01. Angel In The Snow From the Jan/Feb 1995 sessions at Leslie Uppinghouse's home studio that yielded much of the S/T record. Elliott's mix appeared on a CD that came with Mike McGonigal's magazine, Yeti: Volume I.
02. Talking to Mary From the 1995 sessions at Leslie's. This is Elliott's rough mix as the master tape is sadly missing.
03. High Times From the 1995 sessions at Leslie's. An early working title was "Coma Kid". The "drums" are really just doubled snare (with the throw off loose) and ride cymbal.
04. New Monkey From sessions for Either/Or. The "bar" was certainly La Luna in Portland, with "the millions of fans ignoring the bands."
05. Looking Over My Shoulder From sessions for Either/Or. The title of this song is not certain.
06. Going Nowhere From sessions for Either/Or. Due to the limits of eight tracks you rarely get bass guitar on these sessions unless it is integral to the arrangement. One of the most haunting songs in this collection.
07. Riot Coming From the 1995 sessions at Leslie's. Notice the excellent melodic electric guitar part.
08. "All Cleaned Out" This song was tracked at Jackpot! Recording Studio in early 1997. The title is an assumption as there were no notes on or in the tape box.
09. First Timer Tracked at Jackpot! in early 1997. With different lyrics this song has seen life as "Ghost Writer" or "From a Poisoned Well". Elliott recorded the guitars too loud to tape in this collection, hence the occasional "chunk" noise.
10. Go By From sessions for Either/Or. Recorded to 8-track by Elliott in 1996, but then bounced to 2" tape by Rob and Tom where they added overdubs. It was obviously a contender for Either/Or at some point. Early versions of the song were known as "Bye Bye" and "Two Timed".
11. Miss Misery (early version) This song was tracked at Jackpot! in early 1997. It was later recut with lyric changes at Jackpot! and used in the film, Good Will Hunting.
12. Thirteen This Big Star/Alex Chilton song featured often in Elliott's live sets and in the Lucky Three short film by Jem Cohen. This version was recorded by Rob Jones and Elliott Smith in Elliott's Basement in April 1996 and was broadcast June 1, 1996, on Rob's Locals Show on KWVA 88.1 Eugene, OR. This was a simple live take with acoustic guitar and vocals.
Disc Two: 01. Georgia, Georgia From the 1995 sessions at Leslie's. Even though it was older, it was an early contender for the Either/Or running order.
02. Whatever (Folk Song in C) Apparently from the September 1994 sessions at Tony's. Features JJ Gonson's vintage Domino guitar that Elliott favored. Also known under the working title "Hanging Out With Me".
03. Big Decision From the 1995 sessions at Leslie's. Elliott's mix appeared on the CD compilation, A Slice of Lemon.
04. Placeholder From sessions for Either/Or. Sung so softly, but really beautiful.
05. New Disaster From sessions for Either/Or. Vocals and music are from different takes. Vocals are from the reel that provided From a Basement on the Hill with "Last Hour", but the tape reel flange scraping sound (which you can hear on "Last Hour") was even more distracting on this song. Music was from a later instrumental take, with organ and drums but no vocals. This is the only instance on this record where we combined takes in this manner.
06. Seen How Things Are Hard This song was actually recorded on a 4-track cassette. Mixed by Tom and Rob for possible inclusion of Either/Or. Also known under the working title, "Sleigh Bells".
07. Fear City From sessions for Either/Or. Also known as "See My City Dead". Check out the cool melodic organ part and Elliott's grooving drum style.
08. Either/Or From sessions for the album Either/Or. Apparently the song title was appropriated for the album title but not the song. There's also a version of this song with alternate lyrics called "No More".
09. Pretty Mary K (other version) From sessions for Either/Or. This is a completely different song than the Figure 8 track, but seems to feature different words with a parallel theme. An early version was worked up as "Everything's Okay" - note the similar phonetics.
10. Almost Over From sessions for Either/Or. Some of his fastest guitar picking in this collection.
11. See You Later
12. Half Right These are two Heatmiser songs from their third album, Mic City Sons, performed solo in this collection. From the Rob Jones' Locals Show sessions, "See You Later" was released on the Air Check cassette on Rob's label, Jealous Butcher.
Technical Note: Except for the special case of "New Disaster", where independent instrumental and vocal takes were combined, all songs are presented as tracked by Elliott, and every effort was made to check stereo placement, track levels, editing ideas, arrangement ideas and the overall feel that were present in his rough (or released) mixes. In many cases remixing was simply an attempt to make the elements of the song slightly more legible, and in other cases to reduce the background tape hiss. In no way is this album simply a product of the studio in 2006 - it is a collection of songs, any of which could have easily been included on his albums of 1995 or 1997.
Songs previously unreleased except for: "See You Later", Air Check cassette (1999,JB020/Jealous Butcher/limited to 300 copies) "Angel in the Snow" Yeti: Volume I (2000, 2500 issues printed/pressed) "Big Decision" - A Slice of Lemon (1995,KRS100/Kill Rock Stars, still in print)

Gone Too Soon.......2007-06-28
I love this collection. It's like two lost albums were found. Some of his most beautiful and haunting material. The world lost a brilliant songwriter when Elliott passed away. His death is as important to me as John Lennon's (if you knew me, you'd know that that means alot in my world); they both could have gone on to contribute so much more to the world. Maybe they're somewhere playing together right now. That would be cool.
An artist who will be forever missed.......2007-06-27
I lived in Portland Oregon in the mid 1990's and some of my best memories are the Elliot Smith shows i saw in quaint local bars and clubs, up close and personal, just Elliot and his guitar. I always loved him with his band as well, but to me, the true artist in Elliot Smith always came shining through in his solo shows, when his fantastic songwriting was front and center.
If you are the kind of person who owns every Elliot Smith CD, and considers the Kill Rock Stars records to be his best, then New Moon is a must have. There is no need for me to go through track by track to describe the beauty of this album. The care that went into this release by the people who put it together deserves five stars in itself.
Listening to New Moon made me realize how great Elliot Smith was and how much i miss hearing him and seeing him create new music.
Essential for Elliott fans!!!.......2007-06-27
It totally astounded me. I had no expectations, but would not have been surprised if these tracks were left off Elliott's records because they were somehow sub-standard. They are not. Either/Or could have been a perfect double CD with the inclusion of these tracks. If you are an Elliott fan, you will be exstatic about these archival gems.
Unbelievable !.......2007-06-24
Musically, I don't think anyone has surpassed Elliott Smith in the past 20 years or more. Here is more proof of his genius. If the measure of a CD's greatness lies in how many times you can listen to it before you get tired of it, then this one will stand the test of time.
Stellar!.......2007-06-19
Honestly, I prefer Elliott's "Good Will Hunting"-era work, but this album is still worth the buy. As always it's haunting, atmospheric, and this one hits some raw, punk notes. Some songs are reminiscent of his earlier musical themes, but reworked. A needed addition to any Smith fan's collection.

New Age diva Enya first became widely known when her 1988 album Watermark sold 4 million copies and launched the single "Orinoco Flow." Her follow-up, Shepherd Moons, was even more successful, selling over 10 million copies despite its slightly lower grade of ethereal enchantment. In 1997 she released Paint the Sky with Stars, an assortment of her best work from these two early albums plus gems from 1995's The Memory of Trees and the soundtrack to the BBC series The Celts. The most melodic and atmospheric examples of Enya's lovely Celtic-flavored songwriting shine on this disc. Those unfamiliar with the former Clannad member will find charm in such sweet lullabies as "Marble Halls" and "China Roses" while delighting in the more energetic "Book of Days," "Storms in Africa," and "Caribbean Blue." Overall, an outstanding collection from an artist who gives New Age a good name. --Karen Karleski

I've listened to this CD over and over and I never get tired of it. Enya's music is so wonderfully soothing and serene. I recommend listening to this one while driving to keep road rage at bay!

As a musician myself I'm always searching for the ultimate unique musical experience and Enya's music is timeless. This "best of collection" will deliver hours of listening please. Enya's multi-layered voice textures, that give her music its uniqueness, are soothing to the ears. Real ear-candy!

A Sound All Her Own !.......2007-07-06
Oh, Wow! This is a cd that will be liked by all who enjoy M E H D I, C E L T IC or even Loreena Mckinnett. It is the very essence of good new age. So tranquil, yet so spirited, this cd is a refreshing break from my well-worn collection, I just keep wanting to listen to it over and over again. I am amazed! It reminds me somewhat of Celtic Women, but still very unique. This is music to the soul. Absolutely relaxing, as well.
ALSO RECOMMENDED: M E H D I ~ Instrumental Paradise Volume 8..A True Gem.
Mood Music, some good, some bad.......2007-06-27
Enya's music is spacey with airy singing. Much of it is genuinely moving and touches emotions, but other tunes make the listener almost want to die. Definitely mood music. Good songs:
Orinoco Flow
Carribean Blue - very ethereal
Book of Days
Celts
Anywhere Is
Only If
The Celts
Paint the Sky with Stars - not a good song. I mention it as illustrative of my above comment. This is a real downer. Don't listen to it if you are struggling with suicidal thoughts in your life. I'm not just making a bad joke with this comment; it is truly mournful.
Overall the first half is more enjoyable. Album could have 5 stars if it had maintained that pace, but the 2nd half is much more depressing rather than emotive
Timeless.......2007-06-16
This music appeals to all senses primal and majestic, those felt, those buried. Enjoy!

Made up of former displaced persons from the killing fields of Sierra Leone, members of the Refugee All Stars (a.k.a. R.A.S.) were forced to flee for their lives during the 1990s, fanning out into nearby West African nations. Through continued hard times, bandmates Reuben M. Koroma, Francis (Franco) Langba, and Abdul Rahim (Arahim) Kamara entertained and heartened their compatriots with truthful, gently satiric, liltingly infectious tunes. Filmmakers Banker White and Zach Niles made a prize-winning documentary about the band's courageous struggle, thereby bringing their story to an international audience. Backed by Keith Richards, Sir Paul McCartney, and other socially conscious celebrities, R.A.S. embarked on a rapturously received world tour and were at long last able to augment their earlier, but nonetheless invaluable, field recordings with professionally engineered studio tracks. The resulting seventeen songs travel through deceptively relaxed Sierra Leonean Palm Wine music, triple-rhythmed gbute vang and reggae-like sounds (complete with toasting), Nigerian Afro-Beat, and even echoes of Congolese soukous. Backed by sweet yet astringent vocal harmonies, sultry guitars, homemade percussion, and playfully retro-sounding organ riffs, each selection reveals still another facet of a bittersweet but ultimately triumphant saga of survival. At long last, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars are poised to become the superstars they were always destined to be. --Christina Roden
Album Description
This is a group of musicians who lived for years as refugees in the West African nation of Guinea. While living in a tent camp, they acquired a couple beat up guitars and a rusted out sound system and began playing. American documentary filmmakers made the band the focus of their movie, which received enthusiastic endorsements from the likes of Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, Angelina Jolie, Joe Perry, and Ice Cube. The film's success has allowed the band to tour internationally to ecstatic audiences. Born in the midst of a violent, decade-long civil war, the group and its music celebrate our ability to sustain hope, inspiration, and creativity - the best in us - even in a climate of rage, loss, and madness.

Rock to the rhythm of the Refugees.......2007-07-12
I lived in Sierra Leone for 4 years, from 1971-1974. The time I spent there has shaped my beliefs. I was introduced to new music, new languages and this album brings it all back. As well as the Hi-Life and more traditional songs, this album has some really good roots reggae
But, don't buy it because I'm getting misty eyed. Buy it because the music is inspiring and makes you want to dance. Buy it because you've never heard anything from Sierra Leone. And, when you've bought it, go out (or online) and find the album by Afro National.
I was lucky to live in Sierra Leone and I love this music. Now to try to find the tv program which goes with it...
ABOUT TIME! Bob Marley would be proud!.......2007-06-27
At a time when we are overwhelmed by negative and ignorant music (with few exceptions) in the US and elsewhere, this CD is a Godsend! Positive and uplifting music along with thought-provoking lyrics by people who really know that you can't be happy if you've never been sad.
The rapper Black Nature has a lot to teach his American rap counterparts. Keep up the good work brother, your work far outstrips the US rappers who have inspired you!
To Grace, The Emperors, and all the other RAS, God bless you all. ZBob Marely is smiling somewhere.
Living Like a Refugee CD is excellent for both music and content.......2007-05-13
I work with refugees here in the U.S. so I was particularly interested in listening to this group of musicians who formed a band while they were in refugee camp. The song "Living Like a Refugee" poetically describes some of the many feelings refugees have when they are uprooted from their homes and forced to flee to another country. Many of the refugees I am working with are from West Africa and they love hearing the music because they identify with the songs and they understand the ethnic languages used with the music. This is the first artistic and creative piece that I know about which has originated in a refugee camp and is now being listened to by ordinary people all over the world. I hope that the music will help all of us to understand that refugees are people just like us and that they deserve to be acknowledged and respected for the courage they demonstrate to the rest of the world, especially those of us in the U.S. who have no idea what it is like to "be a refugee".
Passionate Sounds.......2007-01-19
Great CD filled with passion and emotion. Recommend to anyone. Smooth, relaxing vibes.
Must have!.......2007-01-15
If you like world music this will be a great addition to your music collection. It has a slight reggae feel to it at times but the lyrics make you really feel where it is coming from. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this 15 song album. Enjoy

This compilation offers the single versions and created new edits, which is clearly stated in the booklet. Imagine trying to buy all eighteen songs (pictured in the booklet) individually? The last two songs on this CD, making the total twenty were previously unreleased. The Pop-Rockin' "Stars" is no token throw-away. It one of their better songs in the last phase of the Cranberries. I like the single versions better on this CD and album versions better on the individual albums if that makes sense. A true "Best" is owning "Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can't We? - Complete", "No Need To Argue - Complete" and this compilation. The other indivdual songs is personal choice. The band also had the fans vote for their favourite non-single - "Daffodil Lament". So what is offered here is sampler of their five albums. For a beginner, it's good enough. For a big fan, it closes the book unless the band gets back together. In the 1990's the Dave Matthews Band and the Cranberries were Modern Rock's best.
love it !!.......2007-03-12

Great CD.......2007-01-10
It's the Cranberries. If you like them, you love them, and if you don't, you don't.
It's a great CD, but how could it not be?

Winner of five Oscars (including two for Richard and Robert Sherman's memorable slate of songs), Disney's 1964 adaptation of British author P.L. Travers' beloved children's tales melded live action, animation and music more successfully than any film before or since. Containing the most complete version of the Sherman Brothers' score and a wealth of previously unavailable behind-the-scenes treasures, this double-disc, 40th anniversary soundtrack edition becomes the ultimate musical tribute to the beloved family masterpiece. The Sherman's memorable songs are showcased here in a more comprehensive musical context than ever before; indeed, a number of the expanded or previously unreleased pieces of the Irwin Kostal-arranged underscore now included were truncated in editing the film itself. The generous bonus disc contains the set's greatest historical treasure: a 40+ minute pre-production story meeting between the Shermans, gag writer Don DaGradi and author Travers herself. Also included is a lengthy 1964 audio documentary featuring the Shermans and stars Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, an audio montage of the songwriting team reminiscing and playing their original demos for the project and an illustrated 40-page companion booklet containing a history of the project as well as complete song lyrics. -- Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Practically Perfect..........2007-06-20
A really wonderful re-issue of this classic score, made even richer by the inclusion of much of the orchestral score. My only quibble, rather small, is that the expanded overture heard on the original lp has not been included. That overture goes on a little longer than the film version and is quite beautiful. Has this version been on any cd issue of the soundtrack? As I said, small point, and this cd belongs in every soundtrack collection - it's just great - and far better than the current stage version.
A Classic.......2007-05-13
This CD is not of the caliber of a Sound of Music and West Side Story as far sheer volume of great songs go; most songs are good and classics.
This CD is one to have in your collection of musicals.
Loved by young and old...I mean older :) .......2007-03-15
My son and mother-in-law love to sing to the music, so we bought this for her birthday to replace the record (album) that she has been using. Yes, I did say record! It really is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
What a soundtrack!.......2006-11-10
I wish I would have gotten this a long time ago. I never knew soundtracks could be so much fun! My whole family enjoys singing along with these songs and visioning the movie while we sing. Even my husband enjoys singing Chim Chim Cher-ee! The price is amazing to boot.
Perfectly pleased.
Mary Poppins Soundtrack is supercalifriglisticexpialidocious.......2006-11-10
The CD expansion of the score from the original vinyl is delightful and a must for any soundtrack collection.

classic music CD.......2007-06-27
The CD was well represented by the clips on the Amazon website and came in time for our event. We did have a problem with the charge but that was taken care of promptly. Great service.
Good for beginners.......2007-02-15
It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.
Great mix.......2007-02-14
All the best composers! Over an hour of music. A samble of the greatest pieces.

Sousa's marches.......2007-06-28
Excellent CD! I'm happy with the speed in which it arrived at our home.
OK, But Not As Good As the Original.......2006-08-12
It's OK, but doesn't have the quality of Sousa's original songs which were also played by a United States Marine Band.
Sousa Marches, MC Band.......2006-08-04
I was totally happy with the CD. It was everything I expected it to be. Thanks Much
This is so great!.......2005-03-27
This music speaks to my inner being, my father was a Marine with the ETC, and it was not an easy time. Music like this helped him think about how the best things in life are two doors down on the left, just a shade away from peace. I love this music, track 13 speaks to me so much that I am not sure if I have the time to listen as much as I want to! Such great music!
A Great Sousa Collection.......2004-12-15
These recordings seem to date from the 1960s and reflect a style of play that is impossible to find today. Some people might consider the sound to be too bright, the entrances too aggressive. But I think this is more authentic for Sousa than what one generally hears today. Sousa himself is known to have preferred "enthusiastic" entrances from his players, to have favored an "orchestral" sonority for his band and to have played his marches in strict tempo with no ritards or tempo changes. That is what you have on this disc, which features the Marine Band under Lt. Col. Albert Schoepper, who also conducts on Volume 3 of Altissimo's Sousa Original series.

It's flatly unfair that the Gossip aren't a massive success, a rocknroll giant slayer, especially as they unleash another 10-song, 30-minute zinger like Standing in the Way of Control. Singer Beth Ditto's boundless, whether shouting out the title song's chorus or feather-dusting the lyric on Meg White-sounding album closer, "Dark Lines." The band rocks with an unerring simplicity, a leanness that writhes. The big-beat, hop-along (and sing-along) "Listen Up," is the centerpiece here, a stripped focus on the Gossip's core conviction, that rhythm can rock like little else. The tune has Ditto holding court over a bluntly simple one-two beat, cautioning a crowd that by rights ought to be tenfold larger: "now gather round/now listen up," warning them that "some people talk way too much." As Ditto stuns, drummer Hannah Blilie's beat pounds, and Brace Paine's guitar lays down a simple law. Ignorance of that law is no excuse. --Andrew Bartlett
Album Description
Gossip have returned two years after their last release with a new drummer and a slightly new sound. Described as everything from dance-punk to "Pointer Sisters without synths", this is a preview of their upcoming album, coming out in January. "Standing In The Way Of Control" comes backed with a stellar remix by Le Tigre, with art by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth.

There Is Still Great Music Out There And Right Here.......2007-04-23
This cd by the Gossip is one of those rare ones that you let play all the way through and then start it over again. Very distinct vocals from Beth Ditto and very good music. My personal favorite tracks are the title cut and HOLY WATER.
Good singer but..........2007-03-23
OK so this is one of the big things in the NME at the moment. It is not that bad but also not that great. The singing is really very very good but the music is little mroe than unoriginal derivative new wave. As I write the singer has a lot of potential but the rest is not that great.
Gossip are lethal.......2007-02-05
Hi Guys
I have to say i disagree with the above-mentioned reviews. I haven't felt the same way about a band since i was going through a large White Stripes phase some years ago.
This band are very similar to the Whites Stripes in that they have that stripped down, bedroom sounding production similar to Elephant. They also have the same type of bluesey guitar licks. The vocals are absolutely tremendous, bringing a soul voice to a rock band, although if she went on American Idol they would slate her.
It is of course the songs themselves that cement this record. Every song is a stone cold hit. The chorus of "coal to diamonds" has so much emotion it makes me feel nauseous.
The only downside is that the chorus of "Keeping you Alive" sounds slightly tacked on, even though it makes the main riff of that song sound cooler.
It is also worth noting that this band are hot enough to have tracks remixed by Belgian rock/dance crossover Soulwax and Le Tigre.
If these guys really float your boat it is worth checking out The Invisible Deck the Rogers Sisters.
Gossip.......2007-01-10
Beth Ditto has one of the strongest voices today, very reminiscent of Janis Joplin. The album is full of suprises.

Augustana's finely burnished debut again points up the contrast between contemporary American rock's persistent navel-gazing and the vibrant, back-to-the-future vibe of resurgent Britpop. The angst-ridden lyrical pleas of mainstay Dan Layus are often informed by the band's restless westward travels from its Midwestern roots on tracks like the spare "Roosevelt" and lush, mid-tempo gem of a ballad, "Boston." Yet one can almost count the modern rock influences on the album's opening wall-of-guitar conceits, "Mayfield" and "Bullets," and elsewhere, the likely residue of Train and Wallflowers producer Brendan O'Brien's aggressive studio slickery. It's to Layus' and the band's credit that the album's best moments are usually its most emotionally and musically direct, as witnessed by the moody title track, "Boston" and folk-tinged closer, "Coffee and Cigarettes." The soaring drama of "California Burning" throws all those elements firmly against the wall and damned near makes `em stick, ample evidence that the band has the potential to rise above the comfortably safe familiarity that sometimes seems to constrain them here. --Jerry McCulley

Wonderful CD!.......2007-06-08
I had heard the song "Boston" on the radio. Shocked the cd had come out a few years ago and radio waited so long to play it! I was so happy that Amazon had the CD. It's in my SUV and I listen to it over and over again.
Job well done!.......2007-04-10
I always enjoy seeking out new music. This bands music is well thought out and well produced. It gets better with each listen. You can't pidgeon hole their style which is what I like best. It could be rock, indie, or alternative - whatever you want it to be. Take a chance and support a group that will be around for a while.
Best CD I've Ever Owned.......2007-03-30
I first heard Augustana's song, Boston, in 2006 when I was traveling out west. I came back to Ohio and downloaded it. I decided I loved the song so much that I wanted to buy thier whole CD. I'm glad I did, I love everysong on it, which is wierd for me. It's worth buying! Be sure to check out thier website too!!! Augustana rocks!

This is a wonderful CD...and the music is absolutely great!!! My favorite is "Boston"!!! I originally ordered the CD for "Boston", but found that other songs on the CD are just as good!!! :-)

I have recently been purchasing a lot of alternative music and this is one of the CD's that I base my "searches" on when looking for bands that I will like. You won't be disappointed.
