4 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......1999-02-27

A rare find, but more righteous grooves from the JSBX....maybe not as hard as some of their other compilations, but they still prove themselves heads and tails above other "so-called" rock stars...

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Pure blues explosion at it's best........1998-10-09

This CD is worth your time and money, anyone who likes raw rock will love this CD. It's a great time to be a Jon Spencer fan.

5 out of 5 stars The Blues Is STILL #1.......1998-09-02

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is one of the few bands in rock 'n' roll that can inspire me enough to leave my home, wait in line to purchase a ticket and then wait in another line to see the show. They are also one of the few bands for whom I'd ask for seconds. Truth be known, they are one of the few bands worth a damn these days. "Controversial Negro" documents the indefatigable trio at the Hotel Congress in Tuscon, Arizona. After listening to the record, there is no question in my mind that the Tuscon crowd got more than their money's worth and so did I. To see the Blues Explosion live is to see pure televangilism delivered in the stylings of a young James Brown, accompanied by his band mates who have one foot firmly planted in Church and the other hanging recklessly over the edge. Particularly compelling are the tunes, "Vacuum of Lonliness" and "Sticky" The use of the theremin threads the needle like no other sound produced by machine and Russell Simmons proves himself to be one of the (most unlikely) funkiest drummers performing today. Taking their cues form their leader, Bauer and Simmons are always able to put it right in the pocket once spencer has lit the fuse. This is a must-have for any die-hard Blues Explosionist.

    4 out of 5 stars Here's hoping for an Xtra-Plastic Fang.......2002-05-15

Damn those Japanese imports... JSBX saves some of their best
stuff for overseas. "Ghetto Mom" deserves to be on the domestic
version but, alas, you must shell out $ to get it on this. The
other "import" tracks are OK, and are just as good as whats on the U.S. release.
I wish they'd put the BEST tracks on the album and save the
throwaway cuts for b-sides and imports.

          5 out of 5 stars extra-acme NOT ura-acme.......1999-07-23

Altough it's a fine and nice remix CD, this is not the CD URA-ACME as promissed, but another version of ACME, and it's called EXTRA-ACME... All those titles..it's very confusing... we have ACME; EXTRA-ACME; URA-ACME;EMERGENCY CALL FROM JAPAN...why is there so much confusion about this title ? And what happend to the right URA-ACME ?

5 out of 5 stars Jon Gets ill-matic in Japan.......1999-06-25

If u love JSBX then u gotta check this. On three new trax and two B-sides from the single, Jon, Russell and Judah get raw and kick it real. The remix of "Talk About the Blues" is worth the money itself. "New Year" brings out Jon's old Pussy Galore punk stylinss. There are also re-mixes from Moby and the Automator. The cover even is good, taken from the video with Winona Ryder as Jon. Please God never let Jon Go Mainstream.
