5 out of 5 stars Dream Theater Live......Short But Sweet.......2007-01-29

This live album was recorded on the "Images And Words" tour when the band was really taking off in terms of popularity. It is a single disc that contains material from both "Images" and the band's first album with Charlie Domenici. The album also contains a very cool previously unreleased instrumental called "Bombay Vindaloo". If anyone had any doubts about the band being able to pull of their intricate material in a live setting this album puts all arguments to rest. The inclusion of "Fortune In Lies", and "Another Hand - The Killing Hand" further goes to prove the how much better James Labrie's voice is than Domenici's. The rest of the album feature live versions of "Metropolis", "Surrounded", and "Pull Me Under", all performed fairly similarly to their studio counterparts. "Live At The Marquee" is a nice snapshot in time of where the band was in the early 90's.

my boyfriend loves this cd and it is so hard to find in a store. we have ordered it twice and it did not come, but you got it out fast and in great new condition and i saved the day. thanks!

5 out of 5 stars Live at the Marq..........2006-11-25

That's what they should've called it, since it's only 2/3 of the show they played. I have the whole thing on bootleg, but it sure sounds a heck of a lot better here! Gotta agree with the other reviewers, Killing Hand, Fortune in Lies, and Bombay Vindaloo are the outstanding tracks on this particular album... BTW, Bombay sounds a bit Zeppelin-esque, don't you think? Maybe a tribute one of their influences? Whether it is or it isn't I'm not really sure, but I am sure of this - for me, this is some old school metal at its absolute best!

5 out of 5 stars Classic, powerful early live DT.......2006-08-29

Live at the Marquee was released as an EP in Europe and Japan only in 1993. It's the only DT live album to feature the original "classic" lineup, including Kevin Moore on keyboards. And it is AWESOME!

Contained on here are probably the best versions EVER of Metropolis Pt 1, The Killing Hand, and A Fortune in Lies. Rounding out the set are excellent versions of Pull Me Under, Surrounded (a rarity on live DT releases!) and an incredible one-off instrumental improv, Bombay Vindaloo.

But what really stick out to my ears are two things: the incredible sound quality, which really captures the scope of Mike Portnoy's amazing drumming (and the depth of his drumkit's sound) and James LaBrie's FANTASTIC voice. This has to be the best live recording in terms of James' voice, which makes sense as it was a year later he ruptured his vocal cords, an injury from which he has only recently recovered.

Regretfully, this isn't the entire concert, and as Mike Portnoy has stated on his website the band like the record but don't consider it a "real" DT release, it's doubtful this will get the expanded re-release treatment ever. So we can content ourselves with this exquisite little live document of a band reaching the height of their powers, which they've sustained to this day.

5 out of 5 stars Good but..........2006-01-19

This a very good live album but it isn't the entire concert. Here is the real set list from that night.
1. Metropolis Part I/
2. A Fortune In Lies
3. Under a Glass Moon
4. Surrounded
5. Ytsejam (w/ drum solo)
6. Bombay Vindaloo
7. Another Day/
8. Another Hand/
9. The Killing Hand
10. Pull Me Under
11. Take the Time
~~~encore~~~
12. Wait For Sleep
13. Learning to Live
Twin Peaks (outro tape)
I think that they should re-release the album because it would be great to have the whole concert on cd. They did the same thing with Once in a Livetime CD and the Live in Tokyo DVD. Go to the bands website and check under Tourography if you don't believe me.
    4 out of 5 stars Real Rock, no hype!.......2002-10-27
    This album is badd!! Anyone who is a cult fanatic or even a mild admirer of this influential rock, punk band will be interested. The best thing I found about this double disc set is that a large proportion of the set list includes pre-electric tunes. There is a large degree of Love songs on this set and what's even better is that you get to hear how these tracks have "mutated" and changed since the early 80's. There are parts where you can obviously tell that Ian's voice is going out, but hey, if you sing like this on a 200 date tour you're voice is going to sound a little ragged also! I also need to mention that on the cd sleeve, there is a statement that there were no overdubs or studio cleanups involved in the production of this album! What you hear is what was there! For anyone who questions the validity of soul, feeling and no hype attitude of the Cult, this 2 disc set will confirm all that these guys have been saying and doing all along, Rock is alive and the cult is proof! 101
        4 out of 5 stars Good album from the days when Gary used to rock.......2007-06-03
        PATHERSON, I always assumed this recording was from sometime in 1980: Three of the songs are from G-Force (which came out in '79/'80, right?), and Gary announces "You" as a single "we had out a while ago". No clue who the bass player is, though.
        A pretty good album, with Gary in top form and with a solid band.
        As with several of Gary's albums from this period, Live At The Marquee has been released with many different artworks. My copy has a red background, blue lettering, and Gary's shape and guitar in yellow.
        4 out of 5 stars Good recording from a mysterious period in Gary's career...........2004-01-22
        Gary does not endrose this album very much, because this album, along with DIRTY FINGERS, was released by Jet Records (in Japan, first) without his final approval for the mix. Still to this day (and the booklet inside will NOT inform you that) I don't know in which year and date this show took place!!! Even the band line-up is a mystery. We have Gary, Aldridge and Airey for sure and, supposedly, Kerry Driscoll on vocals. But who was the bass player?!
        Anyway, this a fine live album. The energy is breathtaking, Gary is in top form, the songs flow effortless. Good album.
        4 out of 5 stars Great vintage recording with Tommy Aldridge!.......2003-03-17
        Gary Moore shines in this early live recording from the now closed Marquee Club in London. Features Aldridge on drums, Kenny Driscoll (from Lone Star) on Vocals, and Don Airey on Keyboards. Doesn't sound much different from the version that is not remastered, but it's good to have the remastered version nonetheless. Check out "Run To Your Mama," "Parisienne Walkways," and "Dallas Warhead," as they are the best songs on this CD. All of the songs rock though!
          2 out of 5 stars For Completists Only.......2007-06-08
          When one is shopping for arhival music, one has to balance sound quality with performance quality (one assumes you already have a passion for the artist...). Not including the rockabilly throwback Green and Spencer loved to perform, there are a little over 250 officially released unique Fleetwood Mac w/ Peter Green tracks available off and on in the market place. This recording is for the completist only - while the performance is a rare glimpse of the very first formal incarnation of Fleetwood Mac (Bob Brunning on bass, not John McVie), and a view into the famed Marquee club atmosphere, the sound quality is at the bottom of the aforementioned 250+ tracks one can collect. BTW, while Green would always play backup to Spencer, the reverse was rarely true. Much Peter Green listening requires attention to subtleties.
          2 out of 5 stars Live @ the Marquee.......2001-10-10
          It is a neverending search to try to find good quality recordings of early Peter Green and this is not the end of that search. The sound quality is fair, at best, and Green stays in the background too much for my taste. This maybe due to Danny Kirwan not being on this one, leaving too much Jeremy Spencer. I am glad I have this recording though as Mean Woman Blues is GREAT despite the sound quality. Green is dynamite at the end of it. So far, I still think you're better off with the Live at the Boston Tea Party discs.
          2 out of 5 stars Watch Out Peter Green Fans.......2001-09-27
          I just picked up this new issue of the 1967 Live at The
          Marquee recordings of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
          I am a collector of all Peter Green era recordings
          and was really hoping to find something along of the
          lines of Dinky Dawson's excellent Shrine '69 on Ryko.
          Unfortunately, this CD can't compare. The sound
          quality on Live At The Marquee is extremely poor.
          The performance is good especially considering that
          the band had been together for a very short time at
          this point. Peter Green's guitar playing is tentative
          at the beginning of the set but he seems to quickly
          gain confidence. By the time they start "Watch Out",
          he is clearly in control but again, the recording
          quality is so poor that only a true Green-o-phile
          will stick it out long enough to find out. There
          is some kind of disclaimer about the sound inside
          the brief booklet but even that doesn't prepare you
          for how bad this sounds. It claims that the recording
          stems from a sound board source but I would be very
          surprised if that were true. The only thing I can
          compare this to is 12/31/62 Star Club recordings of
          The Beatles. That night was captured by an alleged
          friend of the band on unprofessional recording equipment.
          Fleewood Mac Live At The Marquee sounds to me like
          it has similar origins. Original Mac bassist Bob
          Brunning supplies some interesting notes inside (first
          published with the 1992 of this release) and the
          period photos from the band are nice (although familiar
          to Green fans). If you need all of the available
          Peter Green material out there, you will need this
          but newcomers to this amazing band would be much
          better served by the aforementioned live "Shrine '69"
          or the even better three disc "Live at the Boston Tea
          Party" (Red Snapper edition-remixed) and the very
          reasonable priced six disc Blue Horizon Years box set
          (essential for any blues collection).
          Really not a Sweet effort, founding member and guitarist Andy Scott is the only remaining member here and it shows. The AS Sweet band is pretty tight however you can't knock them for their talents, but what's the point, really. I guess it's still cool that Scott still performs the old songs, I guess I would rather see Scott's name instead of Sweet. "are you ready for the ballroom blitz thing?'" is one of the lamest song intros in history.
          4 out of 5 stars Raw powerful concert energy... not rawk extravaganza.......2002-09-08
          I'll have to say that I totally disagree with the previous negative posting. The fact is, this is primarily a live CD, and really can't be compared to studio compositions.
          It shows the Sweet band in full raw concert energy...
          performing their classic hits to a responsive audience, which is what any good live concert CD should reflect, rather than simply duplicates of studio work performed live
          The extra studio tracks were so-so, but not complete throwaways as the previous posting indicated. So what if these and the cover song "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" aren't perfect gems.
          The point is that the majority of the CD is live concert tracks, which brings back memories of their familier classics from long ago, performed LIVE in action.
          Get the album if you are a fan of the Sweet band...
          Even if only to bring back memories of those days on desolation boulevard.
          P.S. I would have given this a 5 star rating, if the extra studio tracks had been replaced with LIVE tracks of their other hits.
          2 out of 5 stars Too much rawk extravaganza.......2001-04-29
          The songs are classics you love, but this live collection doesn't add anything to them. The four extra tracks, including the awful cover of "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" are throwaways.
          Stick to your copy of "Desolation Boulevard".
