Old.......2006-12-03
I popped this in after how many years and it's still as fresh as bones.
Why did I ever pass this up?.......2006-09-12
Before Warped Tour this year I had never really listened to Saves the Day. A friend had recommended them forever but each time for some reason I brushed them off. I watched half of their regular set at Warped and liked what I heard, then I happened to catch their acoustic set and was immediatly hooked. I came back to my friend demanding to borrow one of their cds. Stay What You Are is what I got. This is one of the most consistent almbums I have ever heard. All the songs are just so good. The music, the lyrics, and especially Chris's voice bleed emotion. The songs are often dark but still I can't resist jumping around and having fun. Stay What You Are is a perfect example of life's soundtrack.
I should of had my hammer and a few rusty spikes..........2006-08-26
Stay What You Are is easily Saves the Day's greatess album. Saves the Day's first two albums, Can't Slow Down and Through Being Cool, were both great albums. With Stay What You Are, STD shows growth as a musicians and a much more mature and refined sound than they had on their first two albums. Considering they recorded Can't Slow Down when they were teenagers, this makes sense.
This album marks a change in Chris's voice, which actually changes slightly on each of the next two albums as well. I think Chris's voice really shines on this album, and the lyrics are a main attraction for me. Its easy to get into the lyrics of STD on all their albums, but especially this one. I find this one to be their most powerful album. One of the trademarks that I always appreciate is the use of symbolism and metaphors in STD's songs. It gives the songs more depth and more meaning as they seem to really be something of importance to the band. For example, the opening track At Your Funeral, is about the death of the bands first bassist. Listen the lyrics on this song, they are incredible. Another example of some powerful lyrics is the track, As Your Ghosts Takes Flight. Its a very cryptic song imo, but the poetic nature of it makes me keep coming back for more. Its one of my favorite tracks.
This album is also more mellow when compared to the past two albums. I find the change of pace nice, and find that Chris's voice sounds great behind this playing style. I think this has to be one of the most underated albums that I've come across, not from STD fans, but from the music world in general. This was STD's biggest album, but it really deserved much more attention that it actually got. Its a amazing piece of work, and a album that gets better with more listens. It's a lasting album, not one you burn out on quickly. I know for me, its one album that I won't be forgetting for a very long time.
What a great album.......2006-06-03
Here it is 5 years after this cd came out and I am still listening to it. Such a great cd...truely a masterpiece.
Trully excellent album, I'll attempt to write this without bias.......2006-02-28
I have had this album for quite sometime, many years now. I think it's about time I pay my respects to such a wonderful record. STD hits all of what needs to be hit in any indie/emo album. Up until a few months ago I was not sure that I agreed with people when they claimed this record to be "the best emo/indie album ever", however in the past 2months I really realize that it is. From the beginning nots in At Your Funeral til the final chord of Firefly there is not a dull or boring moment of this CD. Im 19, and got this when I was 16, an age where I hated listening to songs I did not know. This was the first CD I put in and listened to stright through and was blown away by. I needed to learn the lyrics, all of which are written beautifully by Chris. In my opinion, if you pick up any album pick this one up, it is worth the 15 or so dollars. All we can now hope for is that Sound The Alarm (due out 4/11/06) can match the greatness of Stay What You Are.

impressed.......2007-02-05
Kind of scary. The first time I saw Saves the Day play was a year, or close to a decade ago, at some crappy hall in Yardley Pennsylvania. To be honest, I never liked Saves the Day much. They weren't bad, just not my taste. "Through Being Cool" was alright, but got old after a few months. I haven't heard any of the albums since "Through Being Cool," to give you an idea of the last time I've heard this band. The only reason I heard this disc is because the library had it on display. I am very glad I gave it a shot. This band has matured wonderfully and this is a great disc. I don't even know how to describe it. To compare it to other bands or cds is an injustice. It has a lot of heart to it. I even like the slower songs, which for Saves the Day has usually disappointed me. This is like an entirely different band and I have no idea why they're not the next Coldplay or whatever in-band is selling millions of records right now. They deserve it with a cd like this.
ah not at first but a few times after.........2007-01-06
i didn't like the sound of this at first, and after seeing them perform this album live i still wasnt vibing.. but listening to it repetitively it grew on me. im really like (say you'll never leave) right now.
A great addition to Saves the Day's history.......2006-12-22
Another Saves the Day album, another shouting match between old-time fans who don't want their high-school memories tainted with challenges to their indecipherable "punk-cred" agendas, and self-anointed "mature" fans who bizarrely consider themselves intellectually superior to the "little people" just because a particular CD happens to appeal to their subjective musical taste. We're both right. And wrong. Look, most people pick the first album they ever heard by a band as their favorite. I for one am squarely in the camp who likes everything STD has ever done, but who am I to say that makes me a "better" fan than somebody who wishes they were still making "Through Being Cool?" Those fans are as passionate as I am about Saves the Day... maybe more... and it's shortsighted and just plain rude to dismiss their palpable nostalgia and emotional pleas for a return to form as crocodile tears. The old-school fans, I've noticed, rarely lower themselves to attacking fans of the newer Saves the Day... their laments are aimed squarely at their former favorite band.
"Sound the Alarm" isn't a return to form. How could it be? "Stay What You Are" is *the* album that will forever define Saves the Day and modern emo itself. It's already one of the most memorable and lasting albums of the 2000's. It will never be topped, by Saves the Day or any other emo band... they could only hope to equal it. With that foolish ambition wisely out of the way, "Sound the Alarm" does manage to remind you of STD's pre-"In Reverie" past while still striking off in new directions... no easy feat, when you think about it.
I for one loved the vocals on "In Reverie," a gutsy and smart gamble that would've expanded Saves the Day's emotional appeal if Dreamworks had survived to actually support that CD. I'm equally thrilled with Chris' voice on "Sound the Alarm." From the first plosive "B" that sets "Head for the Hills" and the album in motion, he's out to prove that he never ceded the territory he dominated on "Stay What You Are" and "Through Being Cool," he just took a little vacation. But his "return" to this style is, as usual, on Chris' own terms... he actually sounds younger than he did on previous albums, if that's possible. The maturity and confidence he delivers here is a different story. His vocal on "Don't Know Why," the emotional centerpiece of the album, might be the most intense of his recorded career.
The band also sounds fantastic on this record, tight as a drum. You really feel the friendship and the mutual respect for each other's musicianship in the performance, partly because Steve Evett's production (he also did "Through Being Cool") has a subtle "recorded live in the room" element. While I wouldn't ever want to forget departing bassist Eben D'amico's contribution to Saves the Day, his replacement Manny Carrero makes the transition just about seamless. The diminished seven-position chord the band discovered on "Cars and Calories" and sprinkled sweetly throughout "In Reverie" is also all over "Sound the Alarm," this time in service of heavier, darker material like "Hell is Here," "Head for the Hills" and "Diseased." This gives the album just the slightest metal feel for flavor, and recalls "Through Being Cool" without retreading the exact same sound. The only blatant musical reprise is "34," a waltz that's a little more "Wednesday the Third" than "What Went Wrong" and successfully recasts the ¾ time signature into this new, darker context.
One area that does retread the past too closely is "Sound the Alarm"'s lyrics. Chris re-uses a few old metaphors: feet bleed from sheer exhaustion and eyeballs are again swallowed for dinner. Before, I always took Chris' poetic mutilation of the body as an imaginative, even playful metaphor for mind over matter: the perpetual daydreamer struggling to overcome the confines of the corporal body. But on "Sound the Alarm," it's difficult to interpret all the flesh-shredding and bloodletting any other way but literally. The body has become a hellish prison, and Chris is getting too old for recreational drug use or casual sex to sufficiently liberate the mind from the ways of the flesh. This hurts lighter songs like "Dying Day" or "Bones." "Bones" is the only song I outright don't like because it tries to be three songs at once, which is two too many as far as I'm concerned.
In the end "Sound the Alarm" is another satisfying and listenable chapter in the Saves the Day catalog. Typically strong melodies abound and the band's energy and delivery throughout are awesome. There are some truly great moments like "Don't Know Why" and the unique "Hell is Here." It doesn't quite achieve greatness because it's neither as ambitious as "In Reverie" nor as transcendent as "Stay What You Are," but its greatest virtue is that it knows better than to even try to replace the band's past glories. However *you* feel about Saves the Day is your business, and you're entitled to it, but I think you and I have one thing in common: with each new release, we'll always give these guys another chance to wow us.
Save the day.......2006-11-04
What a disappointment! This album left me annoyed and agitated!!!!I though the lyrics stunk and the over all vibe was too much.
Good, but a step back.......2006-10-26
It disappoints me when I read reviews from people claiming to be huge fans of bands , but who have only listened to one or two albums, or start off with the band's newest album and then criticize the band's previous works. With that said, I've been a Save the Day fan for 6 years, getting hooked on Through Being Cool. As long-time listeners know, Saves the Day has constantly evolved album to album, borrowing elements of certain genres, but still retaining their punk roots.
The funny thing is, with each new release that Saves the Day put out, I found that I immediately hated it upon listening to it for the first time, simply because they kept exploring new sounds. For example, Stay What You Are seemingly was an ironic title for their third album because I had grown used to defining Saves the Day by their punk sound. I couldn't stand the softer "emo" sound they employed, or how Chris Conley's voice had changed. However, over time I grew to appreciate their new, more refined sound and the musical complexity of the songs.
The same held true for In Reverie. Most Saves the Day fans hated this album and I was no exception. After refusing to listen to the cd for almost 6 months, I gave it a try again. Conley's voice had changed yet again and the band seemed to be striving toward a more "indie" sound, which I was not accustomed to. However, after repeated listening to the cd, I realized how amazing it truly was. All of the songs realize the album title, creating a daydream-like state of abstract thought and sounds. The lyrics are as ingenious as they are in Stay What You Are, showing how masterful Conley is as a songwriter. The music is somewhat ecclectic, but is complex and gives the band a truly mature sound. I applauded the band at the time for refusing to deny their musical creativity and create another cookie-cutter album, to sound like their earlier, more acclaimed works, like so many other bands do just to satisfy their bank accounts.
With that in mind, I was really looking forward to Sound the Alarm, wondering where the band would take its sound next. What I found was a little disappointing. Conley's voice has changed yet again, only this time it is more nasaly than ever. I'll admit that his voice is an acquired taste on any of his albums, but he almost sounds like a chipmunk on Sound the Alarm. Overlooking that, I feel that while the songs again contribute to the apocalyptic theme "Sound the Alarm" in the same way they contributed to the dreamy theme in "In Reverie," the music itself took a step backward. Dark, brooding and even violent at times, the music seemingly doesn't fit with the lyrics at times. It seems like they have reverted back to the simplistic punk chords and riffs that dominated Can't Slow Down and Through Being Cool. Maybe they were trying to recapture a harder sound, I don't know. But I really think that they were better served continuing in the direction that In Reverie was leading them. I still appreciate the lyrics and there are a few songs that demonstrate Saves The Day's musical talent, but overall I felt the album is mediocre compared to their other recent efforts.

The absolute best CD ever........2006-05-13
6th grade, what a weird stage in my life. My older brother would always burn me CD's that I never liked but he was my older brother so I always said i liked it. I always liked Saves the Day a little, but I didn't really listen to music. Not until this year, when i met this kid. He had an older sister a year older than my brother. When I first met him, we were talking about music and what he liked. So i said, you probably don't know them, but i like Saves the Day a lot. He tackled me. We talked about why there so good and it wasn't until this year I lived off of Saves the Day. I went to my first STD concert and the trocadero, 3/30 this year. What a night... since that day i havnt not listened to them, and it just shows you why Through being Cool is the greatest CD of all time. If you really listen, and you understand what he's saying, you understand why it's so good. Just every song flows. There are a couple amazing songs though. You Vandal and Shoulder to the Wheel are the best. Just the way You Vandal ends and how Shoulder to the Wheel starts just makes you think it's one amazing song. Throughout the CD, there are no mistakes. Every song, 5 stars. It's like a book, and a different twist for every song. Stay What You Are is a very good CD, so is Can't Slow Down, Ups and Downs and Sound the Alarm. But nothing will every be as meaningful and amazing as Through Being Cool.
My Favorite Album Ever.......2006-02-11
If you are into the whole emo scene not only should you own every saves the day album but in particular this one. this album is fast, upbeat, and catchy this is an album that everyone sould own several copies of.
There's something great about Kansas.......2005-12-04
I love this CD. Some say it's a period CD, but I disagree it really grows with you. It's catchy, but still a little twisted. Shoulder to the Wheel is one of the best songs ever made.
I agree with everyone..........2005-10-19
I bought this album when I was a senior in high school and was going through a complete 360 with my life. I was sick of the stupid clics at school and started hanging out with the punk kids and this album was the perfect soundtrack. I liked it back then because it was fun and new. But now I listen to it as a junior in college and much more mature and I realize it is an amazing album. Their musicianship is amazing. The songs are really well written and you cannot help but listen to this album and feel wonderful.
I recommend buying this album because it's different from all the other Saves the Day albums and it's better too!
More well crafted than it seems.......2005-08-09
My experience with the cd is actually the exact opposite of the guy whose review is below mine. I got the CD senior year of high school, and now I am a senior in college. When I first got the CD, I liked a lot of songs on it, and didn't like some. I thought it was an ok album, but nothing amazing. 4 years later, I now think it is one of the most well crafted albums I've ever heard. The thing is, you have to listen to the whole thing striaght through without interruption in order to understand why. Every song fills an exact purpose and makes the songs around it sound better. There are some songs that are great on their own, my personal favorites being You Vandal, The Last Lie I Ever Told, and Banned From The Back Porch, but they sound even better in the context of everything else. A lot of these songs I would never listen to on their own because, without their context, they aren't that good of songs. Altogether, however, every song sounds perfect.

Unexpectedly A Fan .......2007-07-11
Before listening to this album, I had never heard of Saves The Day. To be honest, you couldn't have convinced me to listen to this at all if I weren't reviewing it for a newspaper. Even so, I was very nearly scared off by the strange illustrations and initial listen. But, like a good music reviewer, I dutifully listened to it several times through before forming an opinion.
The first few times through the guitars sounded harsh and the lead singer's voice weak. The lyrics were strange and seemingly nonsensical. But as I continued to listen, I began to understand what was being said and the music began to make sense. If you take time to really listen beyond the surface of this CD, you'll find a whole other world of music and emotion far beyond what typically constitutes any kind of popular song now days. The introductions were all different (no confusion on what song it is when the ipod's on random), and each song was varied in style, mood, and/or key, which also helped to lessen confusion. The only real downer on the whole album was #9, "She," which, after nearly four years with this thing, I can still just barely stand to listen to all the way through. It's just too different for the rest of the album and seems awkward and unnatural. It almost feels like, in mixing the CD, there was a tech error and someone else's song got shoved in the middle of an otherwise flawless album.
Take a minute to listen. Saves The Day is not some pop band that instantly sticks. Let it sink in, and it'll soon grow on you. I never thought I'd like it, but I must say I am very pleasantly surprised.
In agreement with most of the recent reviews..........2006-10-31
This is the defining record of Chris Conley, and quite frankly, this album gave me so much hope for their next record. True it didn't catch on immediately and the first time I heard Anywhere With You, I swear I thought it was another band posing as Saves the Day.
But I think what's amazing about this record is how his voice (which is more beautiful yet less emotional than SWYA and much less than TBC and CSD) and the music is layered unlike their previous records. That is truly the key to the beautiful sound that is consistent throughout.
I agree with one review that says the music seems to bring you back to a simpler time, and it's definitely evident in the song structures, the melodies, and especially the lyrics which are less imposing than previous albums. They aren't as random and exciting but they are more personal and the imagery is just as affecting as their other albums. The depth of this album far surpasses their others and their musical composition is at its pinnacle.
The album does seem to float along in the breeze and before you know it, it's over. And if you let it pass by without truly engaging yourself to the music, you will miss so much. I've been a huge fan of Saves the Day and the thing about their earlier albums is that they were as catchy as pop-punk gets without going too far on the hooks or too heavy on the guitar riffs and percussion. The music stayed level and never went over the top, and I think that, plus Chris Conley's amazing lyrics which were the heart of emo at that time, endeared them more than most bands.
Something people forget is that to truly define yourself as a band is to go beyond your genre, and that's what Saves the Day did with In Reverie. I really can't stop saying enough good things about this album and for those that gave up on it after the first listen, stop being biased due to previous greatness from Saves the Day and give them another chance on this one.
This is nearly as good as it gets for Saves the Day and I hope they come back to this sound again someday because they really let it slip away on Sound the Alarm.
Easily Saves the Day's best .......2006-10-26
This album has been out for nearly two years now, but every time I go back and listen to it I find new things that I appreciate even more about it. To me, that says this is a complex, well-thought musical arrangement, not just a collection of catchy, melodic, fast-paced punk songs--like STD's earliest material. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the difference between mid-teens STD and early 20's STD is clear. The band is maturing and exploring their creativity, which happens far too infrequently in the music scene anymore.
If you have grown accustomed to STD's early sound, or even winced a little bit when Stay What You Are was released, I can guarantee you that this album will probably leave a bitter taste in your mouth. I had the same reaction at first, but this album now ranks among my top five favorites.
While few of the songs particularly stand out among the others, I initially had the impression that it was because all of the songs were weak. However, after repeated listening and scrutinizing, it suddenly dawned on me that there really wasn't a weak point in the entire cd--all of the songs were equally strong and lent themselves entirely to the "In Reverie" theme.
Departing even further from their East Coast punk roots, In Reverie is thoughtful and reflective, digging even deeper than SWYA did. What throws most people off is the abstract sound STD embraces in this album. It is a light and melancholic, but extremely deep and mature--a welcomed departure from the teenage-angst ridden emo/screamo/punk that record companies keep pumping out at unwelcomed volumes.
As a singer/songwriter, Chris Conley explores the full extent of his emotions in In Reverie, but is never out of control. The songs show variation and amazing creativity, but never escape the sound of the album as a whole. To me, that is the mark of a masterpiece--when an artist or band is able to choose a definite direction for an album, write captivating music that coincides perfectly with the message of the lyrics, and do so while remaining true to the artist or band's identity.
If you are a Saves the Day fan, or you just love truly good music, I strongly recommed this cd. This is STD's defining cd right now, and everything they put out hereafter will be measured strictly against it.
Under-appreciated pop gem.........2006-04-13
I normally don't like this type of music (punk/emo), but this album has catchy melodies and strong hooks. It's a pity that fans of the band look down on this album. All the tuneful virtues of this album have been aborted on their 2006 follow-up album. Too bad.
It is so good.......2006-04-12
This is my favorite album of all time. I liked "Stay What You Are" and thought it was a really good album, but this one is head and shoulders above any album I have ever heard. I rank it up there with Nirvana's "Nevermind" and The Beatles "Revolver" or "The White Album." Like it has been stated in past reviews, many STD fans do not like this album. That puzzles me. There is nothing like this that I have ever heard. Chris Conley's vocals are perfect and totally different from anything he has done in the past. The first time I heard his voice I thought it was a different person or something. I can't even discribe it and give it proper justice at the same time. The guitar work on this album is crazy good and creative, too. The drums are perfect and the bass lines fit the songs extremly well. This album has a mood that sweeps through the whole thing. It is a total emotional experience. I could talk about this album all day and still never find the right words to describe it. Just check it out.

Still not through being cool.......2006-05-17
Whoever is below me and said Dave and Ted's song writing is at its best is actually incorrect. Ted and Dave debuted on through being cool, Anthony Anastacio and Justin Gaylord were the guitar players on Cant Slow Down. Besides Chris and Bryan, all other members were replaced and through being cool came out.
Anyway this cd isnt as creative as its sophomore release, "Through Being Cool," but its still saves the day, and it is still amazing. More of the hardcore edge like their even earlier recordings (featured on "ups and Downs" cd, where Chris was still only 16 when they recorded a few of those songs), and by going in order, each saves the day record gets moderatly slower with each release, with the exception of Sound The Alarm, which is yet another milestone for STD by the way. Nonetheless, this cd is catchy and worth whatever you spend on it.
Can you say LIFETIME??.......2005-08-15
This Album is really great, especially if you are a fan of Lifetime! This album sounds way different than newer Saves the Day albums and sounds VERY similar to the band Lifetime. So if you are a fan of Dan Yemin's guitar work you will enjoy this album!!
Oldest album a must-buy.......2004-06-17
Saves the Day has acquired many new fans thanks to some of their newer releases like Through Being Cool, Stay What You Are, and In Reverie. Often unnoticed, their first album, Can't Slow Down, is a necessary part of any Saves the Day collection. No two Saves the Day albums sound the same, so each CD is definately worth buying. This album dates the band back to their punk roots and sounds much more raw than the others. The poetic lyrics of Chris Conley, laced with deep metaphors and emotional intensity, contribute to the album's greatness without compromising the musical integrity. Can't Slow Down is definately a must-buy for any fan of any Saves the Day album.
just no words to describe this.......2004-02-08
really, there arent but ill try my best. ok where to start? there are many great songs on this album with really good lyrics also. chris conley just never ceases to amaze me. ok so every song on here is awesome and each has something particularly special in it even though they sound the same at first but dont be discouraged. the first time i gave it a listen, i didnt really like it but now im soo in love with it.
my favorite song would have to be BLINDFOLDED it has the best lyrics in it and also the other great ones are: Deciding, the choke handsome boy, collision, three miles down (sexy acoustic song), always ten feet tall, Hot time in Deleware, Obsolete, and Jodie and many more hah thats like all of them though but its cause they are all soo well put together. so please buy this youll be happy
EVERY SONG has something that is worth listening to whether it has a good lyrical lyric that is cool to hear or some good guitar part oh and the bass on here is pretty amazing stuff
chris makes everything sound super no matter how he says it
and i guess this is the order i would get the saves the day albums and this is the order of my favorite
1. Through Being Cool
2. Can't Slow Down
3. Stay What You Are (this can be switched with #2 also)
4. In Reverie (it is still very good you know
AND i couldnt rate i'm sorry im leaving because i DONT have it!! ahhh i need it
but there is really just no words to describe this and i know i am repeating myself but i cant think of anything else to say just that it is nothing short of a beautiful album it really is all of it its about 30 minutes but it is soo well done
buy it you WILL NOT be disappointed
Disappointing.......2003-12-31
I tried to like this album... I really did. I enjoy emo music, but this just didn't do it for me. The Choke and Three Miles Down are both very good tracks, but beyond that, there's not much here. All of the rest of the songs sound about the same, and there's nothing that stands out about them. There are much better selections within this style of music. I would suggest The Get Up Kids' "Something to Write Home About". That is a much better investment that "Can't Slow Down".

Album Description
Starting out in the mid 1990's in Princeton, NJ - Saves The Day rocked the Jersey punk scene. So what is so special about this new album? The band has come up with 19 tracks dating back from when they were teenagers up to a live track from a recent tour. You can hear the clear progression from the tracks that were demo'd in Chris Conley's basement til;l present day. All 19 tracks are extremely rare if not unreleased.

Saves The Day's "Ups and Downs" Definitely Up.......2005-10-12
I am 38 years old and I have been a fan of Saves The Day for some time. Their newest release titled "Ups and Downs" is actually a release of older material, some of which was not previously released. In a word it is GREAT. The tracks on this cd show how good these guys can be if they stay true to their music and stop trying to be all things to all people. Saves The Day gives a phenominal live performance and the last track on the cd proves that. This is a cd that any fan of Saves The Day should have. I only hope their future work will be worthy of that endorsement.
Saves The Day Rules The World.......2004-09-23
After their last cd I was a little dissapointed in Saves The Day. When I herd that they were coming out with this one I new it was going to be great. I already herd about half the songs on this cd but I still couldn't wait. I have been a fan of Saves The Day for about 3 years now. Since that time I have herd everything by them. They are one of the best bands out right now. If you ever liked anything by them then you'll like this cd, a lot. It has everything from acoustic to fast punk. Buy it now, along with Stay What You Are and Through Being Cool
Please come dive in puddles with me. .......2004-09-15
I think because i knew it was coming out relatively early, i got my hopes up. Saves the Day is my favorite band, and i was so excited about them releasing something new. I didn't quite understand why basically the whole entire ep "I'm sorry i'm leaving" was on this cd, but i still like the cd none the less. I liked that a good amount of it was acoustic, but some fast too, because you can listen to it regardless of your mood. I was a bit dissapointed, because i was thinking more unreleased stuff would be put on it, but i love it none the less.
Stay cute, and have a nice day.
AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!!.......2004-09-11
I saw no real good reviews so i thought that i would try one. Wow. I don't know where to start with this. It is incredibly amazing, from start to finish. One of the best things about it is that it has liner notes inside and Chris describes when and where he wrote the songs. It has awesome pictures from when they were younger.
Ups & Downs: 10/10 This song is really awesome. It reminds me of the times when they made Stay What You Are, because that's where this is from. The guitar goes sooo well with the drums and the lyrics and vocals are amazing.
Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off To Heaven: 10/10 What can i say, this song is an absolute classic. They play it live alot at shows and this one, you can tell Chris is really young. The lyrics are soooo good like, "I know blue eyes get boring
But I'll wear dark glasses all the time And hey if you want me to I'll take a knife to My own bright eyes." OR "There's a beautiful sky tonight And if you were by my side then we could share this but you are gone.." Yes I just really want you all to buy this and support them!
A Drag In D-Flat: 10/10 Wonderful wonderful song. The guitar is soooo beautiful in here and everything compliments very well. Lyrics like "I am not afriad of what it takes to glue you to my side even if it takes a little bleeding, so be it. I would go without breathing and I don't have to justify it. you just watch me. ive got time to kill" leave you in awe. The double vocals in the end are what makes the song i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e.
Then they have the four songs from "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving". I love those songs but i usually skip them/10 The lyrics are awesome. The guitar is very good. It is so catchy. I love it.
The Art of Misplacing FireArms: 10/10 All i have to say is "friends don't mean a thing when you can actually feel the knife sticking in your spine.."
Dave Feels Right: 10/10 The end is the best part. Beautiful.
When it isn't like it should Be: 13/10 I LOVE THIS SONG. You just have to hear it. He sings with such emotion in this song. Lyrics are very very very well done.
Clash City Rocker: 11/10 This song is super catchy. Guitar is so good in here. The end is awesome.
I also love Cheer and the Jessie & My Whetstone live is soo good too.
STOP READING BUY THIS NOW!!!!
Good, but hardly essential........2004-08-27
I can't say I'm all that disappointed in this album, just not particularly excited by it.
I love a Drag in D Flat, track 3... and really all 3 songs recorded in 2000, as they sound sort of in-between Through Being Cool and Stay What you are, which are my favorite two albums by Saves the Day. Track 1 is excellent and sounds right off of Stay What you Are.
Of course, all the tracks from the acoustic EP are very good, but... I already own that cd. In fact I'm not sure why they're considered rarities, as thats an easily obtained album. Ugh. I guess I was really hoping for more stuff that was harder to track down. The live track is nice, and if it was recorded at the show in Asbury Park NJ that kicked off the TBS/Saves the Day fall tour then I was at that show, which is pretty cool... but then again, I heard that track twice on that tour. Oh well. If you're a big fan of the band, this is a nice little cd to add to the collection, but its certainly not essential in any way.

Great.......2006-05-17
I was never a fan of acoustic material, from any band, I always thought it was boring etc. And this released proved me wrong on how boring acoustic may be. Chris Conley has such an amazing voice and talent with song writing (he wrote most of the guitar parts in all of their cds..even when he just sang) and this just proves the talent he has. each song is mainly up tempo and extremly catchy, its too bad "The way his collar falls" wasnt released on cd version (its vinyl only) because thats one of the best acoustic songs from Chris, and the rest of the band.
A solid EP.......2006-05-06
The first STD album I heard was 'Through Being Cool', I am a native of New Jersey and grew up with Saves the Day and all of their albums. The album "Ups&Downs Early Recordings" that came out, is arguably the most desirable album... and it is a compilation. But truly this unappreciated EP is a necessity for any STD fan. To hear the acoustic songs on this album makes you appreciate the range of STD so much more, and i doubt Chris Conley sounds any better than on this gravelly recording. It is really a must get for a fan of emo and STD, i only don't give it a 5/5 because it is an EP and the cover song that concludes it sticks out as the only shaky song.
gives me the chills.......2006-04-14
I must agree with a review below....Chris puts Chris Carraba to shame with the true power with his emo songs on this cd. "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving" is a very powerful song with very deep lyrics. If you have a couple bucks lying around, I would recommend it to anybody.
Saves The Day - I'm Sorry I'm Leaving........2004-08-30
Saves The Day, 'I'm Sorry I'm Leaving' acoustic EP is clearly a transition of the 'Through Being Cool/Can't Slow Down' era. Of course, at the time of the release, no one knew that. What makes this different and unique from the likes of Dashboard and such, is that Saves The Day hadn't exactly changed their sound. They still have those amazing 4/4 power chord riffs, awesome basslines, Chris's raw voice, and the same sort of lyrics as showcased on their previous records. As well as Chris singing his heart out as he does on every release.
1. 'I'm Sorry I'm Leaving' - The title track to the record is the opener to the EP. Chris sings his heart out. This one involves the full band with basses and drums. Personally, i think its decent, but i like it.
2. 'Hold' - This is a really great song. The chorus is catchy, and the lyrics are really deep, and beautiful. This one is just Chris and a guitar. One of the stand outs.
3. 'Jessie & My Whetstone' - Another stand out. Its a bit faster paced, but great vocals as usual, and a very catchy chorus.
4. 'Take Our Cars Now' - This is one of my favorites as well. Great song, and the chorus is really catchy as well. The lyrics are good and deep, and everytime i hear it, i imagine the scenario of the it.
5. 'I Melt With You' - My least favorite on the EP. Its a cover of a Modern English song. It features the whole band too, but its pretty boring.
Overall, even though its not long, its a very good acoustic EP. The songs are good as well. They are also avalible on the 'Up And Downs' record that just came out. This is definetly on most Saves The Day's fan collection already. I heard this is in it's final print, so get your copy before they are out of print. Its worth it.
I know what you're thinking........2004-06-21
Emo? EMO? Sweet mother of christ, emo sucks! Right?
Well, no -- not always, at least. This album bears superficial resemblance to the Dashboard Confessional tearjerk school of thought that's tarred emo's reputation (same acoustic gituars, loud vocals), but the songwriting is brilliant, and the lyrics, far from melodramatic pap, have all the understated depth and nuance of REAL emotion. Listen with an open mind and you'll be surprised.

Worth a Listen.......2007-04-14
If you were a fan of Jared Dean aka Dizzy Dean Davidson of BRITNY FOX & BLACKEYED SUSAN, then this will be worth your time to listen too, Dean is back with a somewhat different yet very well written and played album of songs. Doesn't sound anything like Britny Fox, but you can still tell whose voice it is.
People are selling for .01, spend the dough, one day this will be a rare cd and people will wish they had a copy, listen to and enjoy...
Jared--thanx for the tunes dude, keep rockin'
Excellent work by Dean Davidson.......2003-02-08
I found out about this album from the Britny Fox
site. Big fan of Britny Fox!.
This is a great CD to buy. "Dizzy" Dean sure sounds
different from the Britny Fox days. But it is a good
purchase. Would love to see him back in Britny Fox
singing those tunes!!.
Love saves the day..........2001-12-22
Wow... every song on Superstar is just amazing. The lyrics are really well crafted, great memorable melodies. Dean Davidson could possibly save rock and roll... think of him as a Dylan for the new generation. My favorite song is Judith. The production is grreat, too. If you like good heartland, all American rock/roll like Springsteen, Sheryl Crowe or Tom Petty than Superstar is a must have!!!!

This CD is amazing. Saves The Day puts together a really good, solid album. No song feels repetitive or dull. Everything is lively, and the songs are all extremely cute. A great album to get, whether or not you are a Saves The Day fan. And after hearing this, you'll definitely become one...
