Customer Reviews:
A very good concert, and a decent recording.......2007-04-12
The band was in top form, and it's lots of fun to listen to. Good solos by various members, a lively beat, and great tunes.
Best played loud.
Finally the 1938 concert without the static!.......2007-03-28
A great remake of the best jazz concert ever. Cleaning up the sound makes this CD a treat to listen to over and over
THE classic swing era concert.......2007-03-19
Much has been written about Benny Goodman's Carnegie Hall 1938 concert. Very little about this brilliant edition, and its masterful sound restoration by Bjorn Almstedt. At last this classic swing era concert sounds like the time when the LP came out: a full, warm, authentic sound, far from the horrible CD edition that has been on the market for many years. Make sure you get this version: it's worth every cent, you'll love playing it again and again, and marvel at the likes of Goodman and his many great associates: Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton, Jess Stacy, and a host of swing and jazz legends. Among them Johnny Hodges, Harry Carney and Cootie Williams, three immortal Ellingtonians, who play 'Blue Reverie'. When I heard this piece for the first time, in 1967, I instantly became a fan of the music of Duke Ellington. That's 40 years ago ...
SUPERB REMASTERING OF MILESTONE JAZZ CONCERT.......2007-01-24
Amongst celebrated dates which exist in popular music, 16th January 1938 denotes the day the Benny Goodman Orchestra played the rarified environs of New York's Carnegie Hall - previously designated as the dignified home of classical music. Initially conceived as a publicity stunt to enhance Goodman's increasing popularity, this was the very first time a jazz ensemble had ever played this venue and despite initial coolness towards the event, the sell-out performance left no doubt that swing dance bands provided the latest craze which could no longer be ignored.
Fortunately, the Concert was recorded but in comparison with today's technology the methods and equipment used at the time were relatively crude. The outcome was acceptable but the acetates were filed away and not rediscovered until 1950 when their transfer to vinyl resulted in a million-plus selling album-set. The back-up aluminium masters were also lost for decades but when located in 1998, they formed the basis for a CD set released by Sony the following year. Unfortunately the re-mastering failed to filter out numerous surface imperfections, clicks and hiss with the overall shrill sound lacking depth, much to the disappointment of many buyers who were quick at making their views known concerning such an outcome which could only be regarded as a botched job. Subsequently, other record companies released the Concert with attempts using ongoing developments in technology enabling a degree of improved sound. However, this new Jasmine release has succeeded in both cleanly removing annoying defects and managing to furnish an overall warmer sound without compromising the music, the excitement and ambiance of the occasion and venue.
It's now possible to enjoy interludes by Benny's trio and quartet as well as the full orchestra with the lengthy version of HONEYSUCKLE ROSE played as a jam session and starring such luminaries as Lester Young, Buck Clayton, Count Basie, Harry James and Johnny Hodges. That old Goodman favourite, AVALON brings vibraphonist Lionel Hampton to the fore and other stellar names involved include Ziggy Elman, Teddy Wilson and Bobby Hackett. Supplying necessary glamour, vocalist Martha Tilton, handles LOCH LOMOND and BEI MIR BIST DU SCHON with great style. Of course the highlight is SING, SING, SING, with Jess Stacey's spontaneous piano interlude equaled by typical star drumming from Gene Krupa with his tom-tom rhythms stirring up enthusiasm of the highest order. Carnegie Hall would henceforth open its doors and embrace performances by dance bands, jazz instrumentalists and popular vocalists. This finely-tuned re-mastered recording will ensure this event continues to be cherished as a jazz milestone.
Uneven.......2006-12-25
It is well established that Benny Goodman's 1938 swing concert at Carnegie Hall was pivotal in "legitimizing" jazz as a musical art form among the general public-especially the white audience. My jazz collection is weak on swing and heavy on bebop. So, I decided to purchase this CD. I have some mixed feelings regarding the quality of the music as well as the sound.
First, the choice of music is very uneven. While some pieces are timeless, others are just plain corny and dated! Goodman's intention was to present a history of jazz from its beginnings in New Orleans to 1938 New York. The musical execution is of high quality. But, this is no surprise, as Goodman was known to be a perfectionist. Ellington and Basie band members who "jammed" with Goodman's Orchestra on this date were at the peak of their careers.
Second, the original sound recording is very poor. At the time, Goodman was not aware the concert was being recorded and only found out weeks later. There is only so much modern technology can achieve with such poor originals. Bjorn Almstedt did a great job restoring the original audio. Unfortunately, he had an almost Herculean task. Some of the soloing is so low as to be almost inaudible. Regardless, this is an important recording in the history of jazz and it provides some enjoyable listening moments.

Dowland did for lute music what Haydn did for the string quartet and Beethoven the piano sonata. The finest lutenist and songwriter of his age--he composed several of the greatest hits of the late 16th and early 17th centuries--the surviving lute works constitute a sort of encyclopedia of the possibilities of the instrument. There are song arrangements, dance pieces, tributes to the composer's friends, even a musical self-portrait. Much of the music is fashionably sad. Lute songs generally deal with the agony of lost love, and Dowland's most popular tune was called Lachrimae (Tears). Paul O'Dette is simply the best lutenist alive. These five discs are available together at a special price, or separately. A reference edition. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding.......2007-03-31
If you are a fan of the music of John Dowland, you must own this CD. The playing is outstanding to say the least.
It's not heavy breathing.......2006-08-22
It's great that O'Dette gives us the complete solo works, of course. I have the common reaction to O'Dette: his technique is flawless, his performance unengaging.
Others have remarked on the "heavy breathing" noticeable on the recordings -- it's not heavy breathing, but the movement of his fingers on the gut strings making that sound.
Technically good, emotionally bland. .......2006-04-11
Considering the extreme paucity of (especially solo) lute recordings currently available worldwide,
but especially in the US, this set becomes an essential "must have" for all lovers of the lute.
Yet it somehow disappoints.
I am sure that Paul O'Dette is brimming over with virtuousity and a technical expertise
that I am hardly one to pass sound judgement upon.
But the recordings have a flatness and monotony;
the songs are rendered with precision, but seem to lack feeling, empathy, or enthusiasm throughout the offering.
It is an impressive compendium, and I'm glad I purchased it.
There are very few lutenists out there producing any music at all, so Mr. O'Dette should certainly be praised
for delivering such a substantial feast to our ears.
It just should have had more flavor.
Where is Konrad Ragossnig when you need him?
Highly recommended.......2005-10-23
I bought Volume 1 of this set a couple of years ago. It has become one of my favorite CDs, so I thought I would enjoy the full set. I have not been disappointed. I find the sound quality excellent, the playing superb. The included booklet has a lot of interesting background material. The music is great as background for a dinner party or intimate conversation, but has depth aplenty for concentrated listening. I often listen to it while working at the computer where I swear it improves concentration and productivity!
A few tunes appear more than once as Dowland reused some work, but the arrangements are sufficiently different to be interesting. It is his complete lute works, after all. Some might criticise the set for sounding too much in the same style. It is the work of one composer, and if you happen to like the style, as I do, this is a pro rather than a con.
Another reviewer mentioned obtrusive breathing on the recording. I had listened to Volume 1 for two years before reading the review and had not noticed this. On listening carefully, there is breathing audible, but I do not find it a problem. Perhaps it depends whether one listens to the music or the background.
just a warning..........2005-10-14
Beautiful music, but... you can hear Paul's heavy breathing throughout. Apparently a lot of other reviewers either don't hear the heavy breathing, or aren't bothered by it, but for me, it's a near deal-breaker. Go ahead and mark my review as unhelpful, but I had to put the warning out there.

Can't beat Benny!.......2006-06-15
This is a thoroughly enjoyable CD of Benny's post-WWII work with trios. Benny, of course, was a virtuoso clarinet player and the accompanying musicians are all fantastic.
The tunes on this CD are all old-fashioned (pre-war) jazz and don't reflect the trends in modern jazz that were taking place at the time by such musicians as Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane etc. But that shouldn't deter you from giving this great CD a listen.
There are minimal liner notes and the remastered sound is excellent.
He could do things with that ole' licorice stick that no one else could .......2006-06-11
Goodman could sound mechanical and harsh at times, but his playing has an intensity and drivej like no other. Also there is a sense of his reaching places that no one else could reach with the clarinet.
For those who love the clarinet sound this is a must - have - record.
THE COMPLETE CAPITOL TRIOS.......2005-08-02
The end of WWII also saw the demise of Big Band Swing, with the likes of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and a host of other great band leaders, trimming down to smaller groups. Benny in fact, had recorded with trios, quartets and sextets since the mid 30's, becoming extremely popular, releasing many hits on a regular basis.
Benny continued with this practice from the late 40's, linking with Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton and many more. Tracks contained in this CD, I consider to be collector's items. Many of the songs listed, were originally released in the mid 30's and the advancement in technology during that period, is clearly evident.
Michael Wilkinson, Sydney/Australia 2005
Benny at his very best.......2005-07-13
Benny Goodman made the clarinet cool.
He was a genious, as you can see from this set of songs.
How Good(manesque) is this?.......2005-04-12
this is a must have. I don't care if it's "an essential" on anyone's list, it's one on mine. The cuts are all extraordinarily great. The band members are all here, as far as "must listens" are concerned. The two versions of "I'll Never Dream of You," and the cut of "I'll Never Be the Same" are worth buying the CD in the first place. If ever there were a musician who made a huge impression wherever he set his stompin foot down on a stage, anytime, anywhere, Benny would be my candidate. He had it all. Melody, Talent, Ear
for a chord...ability to attract other talent.
There are musicians for certain eras. Mr Goodman might go down as the historical mystical minnesinger of his. ThIs CD would certainly lend that particular moniker credence!

Excellent!.......2007-07-03
Some other reviewer once said "If you want to know what Benny Goodman was all about, you have to listen to the trio and quartet recordings". He is totally right. Despite having the best white swing band of the 30's, Goodman also recorded a string of records with his racially-integrated trio and quartet which become the birth of what we know as the modern "jazz combo". These recordings are amust for any jazz fan or musician. All the master takes, good remastering without going overboard and at a nice price. Essential for any big band collection.

Enjoy.

Great buy. I puchased my copy for just $11 online - 2 disks and 47 tracks. Sure, you can pay more (much more) for the three disk set, but why? If the extra disk's worth of alternate takes and excellent liner notes are important to you, then go with the other set. On the other hand, if you're just looking for a couple of hours of good music for a reasonable price, I highly recommend the Definitive set. Sound quality very good considering that this music was recorded in the 1930s.
The beginnings of the "Jazz Quartet.".......2007-02-18
Many believe that these recordings are the beginnings of the "Jazz Quartet." This is Benny Goodman like you've never heard him before.

Customer Reviews:
Earliest Sinatra, James is wonderful..........2000-02-09
This recording is amazing, largely because it is over 60 years old and completely listenable. It is remarkable because in 1939 neither Sinatra or Harry James were making much money, traveling to engagements where they were treated less than royally. Kudos to Sony/Columbia for producing such a first-rate CD with a nicely done narrative booklet by George Simon (who reviewed the Harry James Band in 1939 and commented on Sinatra's "very pleasing vocals"!) and Will Friedwald.
The music -- well, it's a mixed bag, but 'All or Nothing at All' is often regarded as Sinatra's first step to stardom, and the recordings here are ample evidence. 'Ciribiribin', the James band theme song, is catchy, 'From the Bottom of My Heart' is is heartfelt, and overall the singing and orchestrations are fun. The most exciting part of this release, however, is the Roseland Ballroom performance, taped for radio, that includes 'Stardust', 'Wishing will make it so' and other great performances. What just floored me the first time I listened was that Harry James and Frank Sinatra are almost a backdrop to the evenings festivities -- you can hear people talking and milling around even on the tape.
While some of the songs are just okay ('My Buddy' seems never to have reappeared in Sinatra's next four decades of performing!), this is a great sample of Sinatra's absolutely (too?) smooth and creamy vocals of 1939.
I would recommend this if you are already a Sinatra or James fan, but Sinatra fans looking for more "swinging" vocals will want to visit the Capitol Records albums of the 1950s.

Customer Reviews:
Ravishing Music, Ravishingly Sung.......2003-04-09
As a choral singer myself, I was particularly drawn to this new Naxos release of sacred and secular choral music, some of it familiar but much of it quite unfamiliar (at least on this side of the Atlantic).
The disc leads off with what is probably Finzi's most popular sacred choral work, 'God is gone up with a triumphal shout,' set to a text by Edward Taylor. The opening organ fanfare is followed by sung fanfares with men's voices echoing those of the trebles. [The choir in this recording is that of St. John's College, Cambridge, and as such follows the Anglican tradition choirs consisting of boy sopranos, male altos, tenors and basses. There are some who dislike this sound but I find it very attractive, and of course it is the sound that Finzi surely heard in his mind's ear as he was writing these pieces.] The piece has colorful choral and organ writing that mirrors such words as 'Methinks I see Heaven's sparkling couriers fly.'
This is followed by 'Magnificat,' Op. 36 (Finzi's only American commission, written for the choirs of Smith and Amherst Colleges), a moving setting without the usual concluding 'Gloria', that begins with an exulting 'My soul doth magnify the Lord' and ends on the words 'for ever and ever' gradually dying away to the final 'Amen.'
'God is gone up' is the second of three sacred pieces in Opus 27. The other two are included (although not in consecutive order). They are 'My lovely one,' and 'Welcome sweet and sacred feast.' The latter is a setting of Henry Vaughan's poem celebrating the poet's redemption through religious conversion ('Dead was I, and deep in trouble'). It contains a meltingly beautiful passage on the words 'O rose of Sharon! O the Lily of the Valley!'
There are two part-songs for male voices, the a cappella 'Thou didst delight my eyes,' Op. 32, and one set to the famous passage from Ecclesiastes, 'Let us now praise famous men,' Op. 35. The latter, in two-part harmony, is notable for its Elgarian treading bass in the organ.
'Seven Unaccompanied Partsongs,' Op. 17, are set to texts by Robert Bridges. They are lyrical and tender and the part-writing is especially grateful to sing. The joyous 'My Spirit Sang All Day' is a particular favorite of small choirs. (For American readers/singers I will add that these songs remind me harmonically and in tone of those in Randall Thompson's 'Frostiana.')
The final and longest piece here is 'Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice,' Op. 26, a 14-minute festival anthem set to Crashaw's elegant translation of Aquinas's 'Adoro te' and 'Lauda Sion.' It starts with a longish organ introduction and features a cappella and accompanied passages and short solos following the poetry's verse structure. There are some ecstatically lovely melodies, particularly at the words 'Jesu, Master, just and true' and at the final 'Amen.'
The singing here is impeccable and stylish. The recorded sound is all one could ask. Another triumph for St. John's, Cambridge, its conductor, Christopher Robinson, and for Naxos.
A hearty recommendation.

Close to perfection.......2006-06-19
This is the collection to have if you want all the recordings of the Glenn Miller Orchestra made for RCA/Bluebird between 1938 and 1942. This box set will include lots of vocal numbers, mainly from the underrated Ray Eberle, the cute Marion Hutton and the great saxman Tex Beneke, plus a few others along the way. Also, there's many great instrumentals that you've probably never heard before.
Now, comparing this to the "Glenn Miller Story" (volumes 1 - 4 on 16 discs) from Avid records which includes songs from radio broadcasts, that weren't recorded for RCA; but I'd still say this one is the better choice. Why? Well, the problem lies in the Avid sound quality, there's too much noise reduction, at least for me. Where as this RCA collection breathes better, and has all the sparkle and fire that is missing from the Avid collections. So, if you're not afraid of a little surface noise, go for this box set, but, look around for a price that's $100 or less. If you want a taste of what this collection sounds like, try out the "Popular Recordings" three disc set first.
Lastly, why can't these compilations of old 78's have a few more seconds between them? Essentially we have a bunch of singles all crammed together, so why not let them have some breathing room. As I recall, the UK Beatles albums from 1963-1966 had a seven second break between songs. I loved it! It was like giving each song it's own spotlight. Oh, the days of one song at a time.
The definitive band of the Swing Era - Alton Glenn Miller!.......2005-05-01
This is the complete Victor/Bluebird set that was released during the 70's on Bluebird LP. I purchased that set as the discs came out, and have finally ordered the CD reissue. Firstly, I want to add that I was born three years after Mr. Miller died, so I heard most of his music from my folks' 78s. I've always been fascinated by the tunes that weren't the big hits; the "B" sides, if you will. It's fun to compare and enjoy different versions of the same song by different bands.
Every band of that time had to record the tunes that the record company's executives wanted issued. That is why Tex Beneke had to sing on "Three Little Fishies." I'm sure he didn't want to do that tune! So you can blame the executives for a lot of mediocre tunes. The great thing is that Glenn and the band made most of their music at a very high level. Miller was a perfectionist, as well as a good businessman. You will discover seldom heard tunes that you will enjoy. The set is worth every cent and then some. It's a musical education for all, especially for the younger listeners. This band could swing and play the sweet tunes equally well. I'm not going to go into detail about individual tunes because that has been done by other reviewers.
Finally, to address the sound quality; these records were made between 1937 and 1942. In a lot of cases the original masters were lost or destroyed, so that dubs had to be made from original 78 rpm discs. Since Glenn was so popular, his records were played until they wore out. You will hear surface noise on a lot of these performances, but that is not really a problem because the music is what counts!
I suggest that anyone who wants to start appreciating Glenn Miller, get this set! There are so many musical goodies here that you can spend hours at a time listening. Share this with a youngster, as my parents did with me. Enjoy!
Good collection but could have been better..........2005-03-02
As a longtime Glenn Miller fan this is a set that I had wanted for a long while. Finding it was a problem because it is out-of-print. I bought it, here, a few weeks ago and really looked forward to hearing music from Glenn Miller that I was not familiar with. This set, 13-Discs in total, is complete and has it all.
For those of you who are tired of hearing the over-played "In The Mood", "Little Brown Jug', "Pennsylvania 6-500", etc. there is plenty here to listen to that will be new to you and very enjoyable. (Otherwise there are plenty of collections out there that have all of the over-played Miller favorites in a single-disc format at a fraction of the $150 price-tag).
That said, after listening to the set a number of times since it arrived, I have come to realize that for every Miller gem there are 2-3 novelty tunes that would have been better off not being recorded. It is a complete set but there is a lot of music here that I could just as soon do without ("Sweet Potato Piper"? "Booglie Wooglie Piggy"?). These tracks have altered my opinions of Miller's music in totality.
I love the Miller sound (I played on the band myself in the '90's for eight years in the reed section) and seldom heard or broadcast items like "Yesterday's Gardenias" or "I'm Thrilled" make the set worthwhile if only because the vast majority of this collection is not available on CD anywhere else.
I was disappointed with the cheap packaging. A musical icon like Miller should merit at least cases for each individual CD instead of 4 discs crammed into a double case (and there's 3 of them) with disc 13 being the odd-one out in it's own case. They are all packaged in a box with a flip-top that will probably fall off if you plan to play the set a lot.
The accompanying booklet, on the other hand, is very well done with a lot of good information and detailed listings of personnel, dates and arrangers for each selection.
The sound quality is not nearly as good as other recordings of the same vintage. Again, with Miller being such a huge figure in 20th Century Popular Music you would have figured a little more painstaking work would have gone into such a mammoth project.
There is some great music in this set and it is nice to finally hear some things that have, unfortunately, been over-shadowed by the same 12 songs that most of the public wants to hear over and over and over again. The band was always VERY polished, tight and was the most individual ensemble of the era. The recordings are a testament to the orchestra's musicianship and execution. Miller's vocalists, especially The Modernaires, were a huge asset to the success of the group. In short, Miller's music epitomizes the Big Band sound. To many people, Miller WAS the Swing Era.
For the casual Miller fan, this set is not for you. For the die-hard Miller fan, however, it is a must-have. 4 stars for completeness. Different packaging would have been more appropriate. Perhaps a newer version will correct this edition's shortcomings.
Stunning, simply stunning.......2004-12-05
This is some of the most finely crafted pop music you'll ever hear. Miller's music immortalizes the pop culture of white, mainstream America in the wartime era... Although it's clearly a big nostalgia trip for us all today, this music also holds up on its own over the decades... heck, even over the centuries, as it turns out. It's both corny and elegant, populist and refined. And a joy to listen to... This box set (SADLY out of print, and in need of reissue!!) is really the way to go for Miller's best work... Like other reviewers here, I also own the multi-volume Bluebird LP sets from the 1970s, and I can hardly describe what a pleasure it is to also have them in digital form as well... this is the kind of box set you can enjoy for weeks on end. Highly recommended!
A Box Set To End All Box Sets.......2004-09-21
Now THIS is a box set! Every single Bluebird recording by the great bandleader, Glenn Miller, all in one convenient compact set. Thirteen CD's in all, and everyone packed to the max with music every bit as alive today as it was over 60 years ago. This is the sound that defined a generation and an era, all from one man who knew what the record buying and jukebox playing public wanted to hear.
Amazon has the complete listing, so there is no need to get into song titles. But, just so you know, every charted song Mr. Miller released is here - all 127 charted hits - except two: Solo Hop on the Columbia label, and Every Day's A Holiday which was on the Brunswick label (hence the reason for these two numbers not being included - they are not Bluebird or Victor releases!). Plus so many more songs that are, to me, every bit as good as the hits. Along with that there are some very good alternate takes on disc 13.
The main reason, however, to purchase this set above the others is the sound quality of the tunes. It is a truly remarkable sound that RCA has been able to pull off of the original (lacquer?) discs. You'd swear the songs were recorded 30 years after the fact - the sound is that good. A full bass, no ear piercing highs (nice and crisp as they should be), and the mid range sounds just right. Not a click or a pop within ear shot.
Is this set pricey? Well, yeah. I guess it is.
But is it worth the price being asked? Every penny!
This is one set that RCA did absolutely perfect, including the extremely informative booklet (141 pages!).
This is one set that, heaven forbid, if anything should happen to it, I would replace it in a heartbeat (house payment be damned!).
A treasure trove filled with gems from the past by the master of the WWII sound.
I'm sure Glenn would approve.

The highest quality performance.......1999-03-13
The music on this recording presents a typical example of a semi-opera, popular in Britain in Purcell's time. Semi-operas were based on a dramatic spoken play, and were accompanied by "incidental" music (dances and masques). It is this incidental music that usually finds its way onto a disc. This recording follows this convention. What distinguishes this recording is its high quality. Collegium Musicum 90 and Richard Hickox are experts in baroque music. The soloists include the biggest names in English vocals. Even the two additional tenors, brought in to merely double the voices in two places, are not just anybody, but Mark Padmore and Ian Bostridge (!). That tells you something. The biggest highlights include the Wood-god duet in Act V of Dioclesian, and the soprano song "Since from my dear Astrea's sight" which is placed in an appendix because musicologists don't seem to know where exactly it originally belonged. This song, which seems to speak of a man's, rather than woman's, anguish over the lost love, concludes with the most wrenching words: "alas, with weeping eyes, And bleeding heart I lie Thinking on her whose absence 'tis That makes me wish to die." Isn't that beautiful?

Customer Reviews:
Quilter deserves better..........2005-11-10
Was this recording of Quilter songs (Complete Folk-Song Arrangements and Complete Part-Songs for Women's Voices) a vanity project for soprano Amanda Pitt? It is hard to explain in any other terms, for her voice is not pleasant to hear. It is a pinched, badly produced, squally sound - the sort of standard one would expect in a not very gifted singing student. Why Naxos permitted this travesty of a recording under their label is a mystery.
The majority of the songs on this CD are sung by the aforesaid Amanda Pitt (soprano). The other singers in this project are of a better standard - in the case of Philip Langridge, beautiful to listen to. This recording is not worthy of his excellent career and lovely tenor voice. The other two singers - mezzo Joanne Thomas and baritone David Wilson-Johnson - are not bad, either, although the mezzo doesn't get a single solo. The lack of a solo for Ms Thomas is glaringly evident when compared to the ten (10) solos which Ms Pitt sings. (10 out of 21 solos - definitely an unfair ratio. Of these ten solos, several could have been given to the mezzo to sing - they were certainly not beyond the average mezzo range.)
The rest of the album consists of duets - thirteen of them. Eleven of the thirteen duets are soprano/mezzo, and in spite of the mezzo's voice (from what one is permitted to hear of it) isn't bad, the duet performances are frankly awful, chiefly because of Ms Pitt. Even the superior quality of Philip Langridge's singing cannot save the two duets he sings with Amanda Pitt.
It's artistically an insulting and atrociously unbalanced distribution of material.
Look for the John Mark Ainsley/Lisa Milne recording of Quilter songs & arias. Admittedly, it doesn't include most of the duets on this CD, but oh, the sheer pleasure of hearing well-trained and lovely voices give Quilter a worthy treatment!
