Album Description
The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can't get better...yet continue to do just that. The Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. The music may be old time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll. Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland and named for the town's historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. On Live and In Session, The Tannahil Weavers mix live recordings of favorites recorded from their 2005 US tour along side studio recordings of new material.

Amazon.com's Best of 1998
In a year in which DJs asserted that, yes, they too are musicians, it was the duo of Cut Chemist (a turntablist in Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) and Shortkut (a member, along with DJ Qbert and Mix Master Mike, of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz), spinning live at a San Francisco party that put the proof in the pudding. Mixing albums from across the decades, some familiar and some obscure, the duo create something entirely--and undeniably--their own. --Randy Silver
Amazon.com
In the beginning, hip-hop was all about the DJ. The DJ rocked the party, keeping the flow going, and to help raise the level of excitement, he--and, back then, it was always he--might employ an MC to shout some catch phrases over the music. But for hip-hop to become pop and rock & roll, a frontman was needed, and the MC became dominant. Not so anymore, as an underground school of self-styled turntablists--DJs with a fancy name for themselves--eschew the MCs and rock the party themselves. Recorded live at San Francisco's Future Primitive Soundsession party, DJs Shortkut (one of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, along with Mix Master Mike) and Cut Chemist (of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) let loose on this disc: two DJs, five turntables, 70 minutes, and no overdubs. It's an astounding display both of their own technical skills and of their ability to keep a party grooving; it's amazingly danceable but punctuated with moments of jaw-dropping virtuosity. May the party never end. --Randy Silver
Album Description
This is the one that started it all! The first officially released recordings from the legendary Future Primitive sessions in San Francisco, which later gave birth to 'Brainfreeze' & everything that followed. Here Cut Chemist battles Shortkut in a ferocious non-stop attack of vintage 45 funk, hip hop classics & undiscovered breaks, beats & dialogue (much of which was later to find it's way onto Jurassic 5's early releases via Cut's production, particularly in the monumental 'Lesson 5'). This is a landmark recording in the history of turntablism. 70 minutes, 23 tracks.
Customer Reviews:
This album bored me.......2006-01-13
Unless you are really into turntablism and samples, don't bother with this album. This album is best for DJ's and music nerds.
I found it a little boring.
Sweet son of a bee sting..........2005-08-11
A truly amazing cd. I have a hip-hop/ turntablism/ soulful jazz/ deep house/ downtempo/ weird foreign stuff radio show and this is my favorite cd. I just start giggling like a little girl when I hear their eclectic selections. They don't let up through this whole cd and other than Q-Bert these guys have some of the best samples around. Hell, I just finished listening to it, straight through and I've had it for years. Worth the price of admission.
Yup, I was fooled........2003-10-09
This set sounded so perfect that I figured it HAD to be rehearsed. The transitions are too smooth, the mixes too perfect, the skratchin' too ill. But according to another reviewer, these two had never worked together, or even MET, prior to this encounter. That makes it all the sweeter. It's one of the best examples out there of just what DJs can do. Seventy minutes of nonstop scratching, ingenious samples, and unbeatable party beats-- this is the album I always reach for when I'm trying to convince unbelievers of the power of the DJ. And more often than not, they're sold on the idea.
With a little more lift and a little more thrust on the marketing side, this series could have taken off in a big way. As it is, we've got two incredible albums of hip-hop goodness that're going to age incredibly well, no question about it. If you don't have them already, what the hell are you waiting for?
Speechless... after witnessing the birth of a new art form!.......2002-04-03
Okay, everybody, I was skeptical when this CD was put in my hand. I grew up listening to old school rap (Run-DMC, the Beasties, LL,) and thought that DJ-ing was just a beat for the MCs. Then, of course, I was disgusted by Puffy and all that "sampling" of the 90s. I thought to myself before I put this CD on: "Well, this can't possibly be art, or even innovative or interesting. I mean, all the guys are doing is mixing other people's music, just like Puffy... and that stuff was so WEAK."
Let me just say: I was never more wrong.
This CD is a work of genius. I can't believe I am saying that, but truth is truth.
True, these guys are taking music other people made, but they are putting it together in totally new ways. As one reviewer said before-- and he was right on the money-- this is a new form of art much like Jazz. They are using other music as their paint, but making totally new canvasses with it. And, it is listenable, not just academic! This CD is both humbling and inspiring.
Words fail me.
Why?
Because my jaw is still dragging on the floor!!
strictly for scratch addicts.......2002-02-17
I was at the 'Bronx To Brixton' event at the Brixton Academy sometime in 98, when some little American dude who had a stall set up pressed this CD on me. [...]. I somehow managed not to lose it that night, took it home, fired up a zoobie and slapped it on. And?...let me first say this is the probably the most innovative mix CD I've ever heard. Chemist and Shortkut throw together such an amazingly diverse mixture of obscure samples, bizzare skits and classic tracks that it's impossible not to be blown away initially. Featuring instrumentals from the likes of Group Home, J5, Beatnuts, KRS, and some cool stuff I've never heard before, this would be the ultimate mix album were it not for one glaring downside...THERE'S TOO MUCH [...] SCRATCHING!.It does not let up ONCE during the entire 70 mins. It gets to the point where you wish they'd give it a rest just so you can enjoy the fantastic tracks they're scratching over. Don't get me wrong, I love scratching, but when you hear it continously for 70 mins you just want to scream and kick your stereo. If Chemist and Shortkut can somehow curb their scratch tendencies, I'd definately buy something else by them, but this is strictly for scratch addicts.

After the most searing Black Uhuru lineup broke up in 1985, Michael Rose (former Black Uhuru frontman) retired to Jamaica's hills to tend his coffee plantation, Sly and Robbie maintained "riddim twin" super-star status, and Duckie Simpson went on to form additional Uhuru incarnations. Rose, who made an early '90s comeback and immediately catapulted once again to reggae's frontlines, is joined here by S.A.N.E., Jamaica's top show band, who are live and in full effect in the City by the Bay. Rose's minor-key vocal flourishes and his rock & roll energy for 15 Uhuru solos--plus his own "Short Temper" hit (inspired by a feud with Simpson)--hit as hard as ever. Added bonus: the perfect balance achieved in this recording between the sounds of audience enthusiasm, bass-driven instrumentals, and Rose's muscular vocals. --Elena Oumano
Customer Reviews:
Michael Rose is a reggae legend!.......2007-04-24
Great cd, 1 of the best live reggae albums out there, enjoy! sounds like you are sitting in the front row.
Should be on the list of Top 5 Live Reggae CD's.......2003-12-04
This is on my list of top 5 live Reggae cd's. Along with Marley live at the Roxy, Babylon by Bus. This is the perfect cd for the Reggae fan who wants to get past the Bob Marley Legend barrier. Very energetic, perfect sound quality. A must for any Reggae fan. Also a great crossover for the Uhuru fans.
Party in Section-- Live.......2003-05-21
This entire CD is off the hook. My wife and I went to see him live in Little Rock, Arkansas. His show made you get out of your seats and party. I do not like many live CDs, but Mr. Rose sounds are on point. It does not matter if he sings live or on his CD. If you are looking for a CD to start your collection, this has to be in your top two!(This CD is in my CD case every where I go).
Derivative at times but certainly not weak.......2003-03-11
I take personal offense when someone calls any work by Michael Rose weak (see below). We're talking about one of the most talented singers in any genre of music here. Yes, he plays some songs from the early eighties, but those are undeniable classics- some of the best songs in the whole great genre of reggae. Musical accompaniment here is excellent, though not quite up to par with Sly and Robbie, of course. Why four stars and not five? Michael's solo embarkment, though successful and quite respectable, just can't kick it with Sinsemilla and Red from the Black Uhuru days. And to my friend from Kingston, reggae is a beautiful art form. It isn't what it was 25 years ago, but if we dwell on that this beautiful artform will wither away. This CD rocks on any day of the week.
Awful and Pathetic.......2003-01-03
Weak and derivative, it's clear that there has not been a new idea in reggae in at least 30 years. Where are the visionaries, the leaders, and not the followers? This genre better develop another Marley or Tosh fast, or it will forever languish in this sort of "happy" yet forced drivel -- entertaining the masses at the expense of art and creativity.

Wow!.......2005-05-18
I cannot believe that no one else has reviewed this album. It's a powerful combination of Cannonball and Ernie Andrews "gittin' with it." When Cannonball blows and Ernie belts, it's magic. Work Song, Big City, Ten Years of Tears and Green Door are all exceptional and catapult this album into the top 10 of my modest jazz collection of over 300 albums.
"I'm Always Drunk in San Francisco" and "Don't Be Afraid of Love" do fall a little flat for me as I favor the up-tempo songs that highlight the pair's talent. However, the rest more than make up for these. This CD is a permanent fixture in my car's CD changer.

Customer Reviews:
best Carl Cox album ever!.......2006-06-21
This album is in my opinion the best album Carl Cox brought on the market. The records on this album are the records he played the most in the season the cd came out and most of them are just smashin'. Due to the fact that it's a live recording, it's a very uplifting and lively (dâh) cd. Even my friends who don't really like techno like this cd!
Wayyy ahead of his time..........2005-10-07
I had this cd for a year or two now and recently decided to pop it in the player and give it another listen. I was truly blown away! Cox was so far ahead of his time and the flow of the disc is fantastic. This disc will make you wish that you could go back in time and be in the club that night to hear this wicked set as it was born.
Turn the Mic Off and Spin.......2004-02-11
Very annoying screams from the crowd, and intermittent interruptions from the DJ encouraging the crowd to continue yelling over every track and "drop-out", utterly ruins what otherwise would have been a master piece of Techno music. Somebody please tell Carl to turn off the d@mn microphone and spin the records.
Fast and Fun.......2003-08-07
Carl Cox rips it loose in Motown on this 2nd Session of Mixed Live !! The tracks are thumpin', pumpin' hard trance danceables....just what you'd expect from Carl's live work. Carl uses the sound board to create effects and even yells out to the crowd throughout the mix....its fast, furious and fun....the only thing missing is his trademark ending where he cuts the power to the turntable and lets the last song wind down to a stop on the open mike...all in all I think this mix is superior to his 1st Session of Mixed Live....its harder, more thumpin' and more representative of...well...Carl Cox Live !!(at least when he comes to Miami.....Crobar and Ultrafest come to mind). Carl is best when he's live and this is a good snapshop of his work. The tune selection is basic but you won't find the tunes on any of your other mixes !! Its quality fare and worth picking up, especially at used price. Hopefully Carl will mix Session 3 real soon. Mix one live in Miami, Carl !!! We're dying to see you again !!
Into the mix.......2003-06-10
GREAT. That's all that really needs to be said. Carl Cox deftly layers some basic tracks until he has the full sound that many of these tracks lack. He is truly an artist among fools.

Customer Reviews:
D takes it to the next level.......2003-12-25
The album may start with Donald being woken up by his cell-phone, but the live set that comes afterward is bound to keep you moving. Donald's track selection is superb as he moves from some heavy house into infectiously funky tunes. I was very pleased with how the album stays upbeat, intense, and fun, perhaps more than any other album in the "mixed live" series. This one is definitely a winner.
Not his best, but still great!.......2003-07-22
One reviewer here said that there is no mixing on this album. Considering the title is Mixed Live, and Donald is one of the best mixers around, I wouldn't take that review to seriously. What I think he meant to say is that there is no scratching or the fabulous turntablist techniques that Donald is known for. The reason for this is explained in Donald's interview. He was adapting to the environment he was in. He was enclosed in a DJ booth with hardly anyone around him. Also the position of the turntables, and the rotary style mixer make it virtually impossible to pull off scratching with confidence. This CD is still the 2nd best CD in the whole Mixed Live collection. Donald's blending and selecting of tracks make this a CD a must have. This is not a good representation of his live performances, but it is still one of the best house CD's out this year.
another great mixed live.......2003-06-10
I love these mixed live cd's. This is my first time listening to glaude but upon hearing this it won't be my last. He has some really great bass lines on tracks and does some great tribal tracks. This is a great cd also because you get the great live feeling especially from the bonus DVD.
Donald seems to have lost his house.......2003-03-22
I love Donald Glaude his mixed live 1 is one of my favorite albums. I have seen him live several times & there is not another DJ out there that pumps up a live crowd like him, but that seems to be missing. I agree with the last review, there is no mixing in this album & Donald is famous for his mixing. I was very disappointed in this album & dvd. Buy it used if you want this, don't pay full price.
Doanld Glaude is the man.......2003-03-20
...in my mind this is as good as it's gonna get seeing donald glaude live. I just love this cd, it starts of slow but by track 3 he gets the crowd pumped, by track 10 it gets really nuts and crazy with him yelling to the crowd tell c'mon. I love his house music because its straight up funky with loud beats and makes you want to dance your ass off. This is hands down one of the best live cd's i've heard and way better than his last mix cd. I wouldn't definetly vouch for anyone to get this cd because you won't be dissappointed. What makes this cd so good was he was behind a booth getting the crowd crazy, just think what it would be like seeing him live, hes just that good. This CD finally does justice to Donald Glaude repuation as one of the best live dj's .

Album Description
This is the text from the Pamphlet we are including with the
Ultimate Island Spa mix, "This Time in Between." How to use this CD The program of music on this CD offers an instrumental sequenced journey for healing therapy including preparation of the room atmosphere and the therapist's state of mind and energy level. The music then gently takes the healer and client to deeper and deeper levels of relaxation. After about an hour, the music gently brings the energy level up and leaves all involved with an uplifted spirit of hope and abundance. 1) Start CD. During songs 1&2, Prepare room atmosphere, light candles and incense. Prepare therapy surface. (table or chair) Greet client, ushering into your healing space, allowing her to relax and prepare. (undress, lay down, breathe) 2) Song 3 plays. Therapist returns and begins session. Music is still slightly upbeat but slowly easing the client out of her hectic world and into this time in between. 3) Music slows and stays mellow for the next five songs. Client drifts off to her own comfortable space. 4) With the next three songs, the musical journey begins to turn upward, slowly guiding the client back into a safe space. She is rejuvenated. And with the final song, uplifted yet still in a very mellow space. 5) Therapist and client are both left relaxed and energized.
