This is the sort of subtle - yet senses assulting, whimsical, seemingly effortless, bursting-with-ideas pop that we've come to expect from the likes of XTC, Loud Family, Robyn Hitchcock, Julian Cope and few others.
Even though this is a collection of early material, the makings of something truly great are clearly evident already.
The flow of ideas on tracks like "Liar over Winchester", "Set Me Up Eleven" and "Mumbletypeg" rival that of their recent masterpiece "Resin".
They can even pull off an offbeat blues instrumental like "Abagail".
