Ive listened to Russell Scott for over 20 years and he has just gotten better with age. Anyone who hasn't heard them needs to listen to them. They have a sound all of their own.

    5 out of 5 stars True Talent.......2004-07-27

I have just had the opportunity to work with Russell Scott at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, where he performed in the musical 'Idols of the King' by Ronnie Claire Edwards and Allen Crowe. It was my first time meeting Russell, and it was a pleasure working with someone as talented and fun to be around as he is.
Though I have not heard all of the tracks on this CD, I can tell you that Russell is truly one of a kind, and definitely worth a listen. He has an awesome voice and can PLAY!

    5 out of 5 stars Sweet!.......2004-05-03

"Russell Scott and His Red Hots" is the only name possible for this band, 'cause they are SMOKING. Impressive musicianship and a lot of fun. These guys know what they are doing. Try this test: play the cd and see how long you can listen without having to jump up and start dancing. Tasty!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD from a versatile group.......2003-09-12

This record is fantastic. But I think to really appreciate how good Russell Scott and the Red Hots are, you need to see them live. They used to play every night of the week in SoCal, but now its once or twice weekly in LA and at the Doll Hut in Anaheim and annually at the Hootenanny. Gene Jaramillo is on guitar on most tracks of this album. Gene provides harmonies to many of the tracks that add to the brilliance of their arrangement. The first track is written (or co-written) with Eddie Nichols, the lead singer of Royal Crown Revue and friend of Russell. It is sort of a cross between rockabilly, R&B and doo-wop, a fast track with lots of energy.

Next in Line is one of my favorites. Of all the tracks, I would say that Rock you through the Roof and Tie Stands Still are classic rockabilly sounding, while the others range from rhythm and blues, jump, and even reggae-sounding. This is one of my favorite bands: I've seen them live millions of time, and they are absolute sweethearts!

    5 out of 5 stars one of the best cd's i've heard.......2000-12-24

russell scott is an amazing talent. this is a great cd of rockabilly and swing. a perfect choice for a gift. russell sings like an angel on this record. a true talent with this band. see him if you can, he's a rare gem

5 out of 5 stars Do You Feel Lucky?.......2000-11-15

Satisfied Rick Moore & Mr. Lucky (MRL 7799-2)

"Satisfied," like the feeling you get after making love with your lady; or that feeling you get after a nice meal; or a day out fishing on the lake on a beautiful summer day. "Satisfied," like the feeling you get when you hear a smokin' rhythm and blues band that you've never heard before, but that you know in your heart of hearts is destined to become one of your all-time favorites. "Satisfied." What a perfect title for a nearly perfect blues album.

This, the second CD from Rick Moore & Mr. Lucky simply reeks of Memphis soul and down home blues. The CD is filled to the rim with straight-ahead, rhythms, melodic hooks, stinging guitar and Rick's throaty vocals, all melting together to form a smooth, impressive recording. Comparisons to such diverse artists as J.J. Cale, Delbert McClinton, and Little Feat wandered through my head during my first and second listen, but by the third spin, it was obvious that Rick Moore is most assuredly his own man, with his own unique style and Southern accent.

They say 13 is an unlucky number. Not so with Mr. Lucky, who's thirteen tracks herein, eleven of which were penned by Moore himself, are all winners.

"Take it Down to Memphis" rocks with some superior saxophone from guest artist Jimmy Hall and scorching slide guitar. And speaking of guests, Rick enlists a few other heavy hitters to add to the mix, including Jack Pearson, Wayne Jackson, and Jimmy Nalls.

Albert King's "I Wanta Get Funky" is one of only two cover tunes on the album, and both it and B.B. King's "Sell My Monkey" are treated to new, almost Southern Rock style arrangements at the hand of Moore, who is obviously as good at producing and arranging as he is at guitar and songwriting.

On one of the album's most outstanding tracks, "Dark Before Daylight," Will Rhodarmor blows some of the meanest harp ever committed to disc, and the set opener, "Satisfied Man" is a real barn burner. Hats off to Rick Moore and Mr. Lucky for creating one super-fine blues album that is sure to leave you "Satisfied."

              Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Terrific for toddlers and their parents.......2002-11-07

My son received this CD as a gift on his first birthday, and I absolutely love it. What a refresing change from those recordings of off-key children belting out nursery rhymes! The song list includes original songs as well as a few classics. The musical genres range all over the globe and most are really toe-tappers. Most of the songs are performed by very talented adults, all with voices that are friendly to a toddler and genuinely enjoyable to a parent. The name of the album comes from the two new verses added to the traditional Ring Around the Rosy rhyme. My son, now almost 2, loves to sing along, and I love the fact that some of the songs are actually educational without being pushy (e.g. looking both ways before crossing the street; calling 911 for help). Our family favorites are the pirate song and the p-jammin' song, but there really isn't a song on here I don't like. This CD makes great travel music for the car, but it's also great for the playroom. A sure thing!
