Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13

Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.

I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.

A Must Have .......2006-12-12

I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.

extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.

WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19

The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.

Legendary selections by a legendary voice.......2004-03-24

With special emphasis on the variety presented in this collection, this album has a broadness of scope that will appeal to anyone who appreciates the magic of the human voice.
McCormack was perhaps the most popular entertainer in the world during his career, comparable with the superstars of today, only richer in the currency of his day.
Though purists may have criticized his shift to the popular venue as opportunism, and perhaps desertion of his training in the classical tradtions, he was simply presenting what people wanted to hear. Whether he set a pattern of career management followed by modern entertainers or was simply happiest when the accolades flowed over him matters not. The talent and richness are his legacy to us.
His range and vocal dexterity are well illustrated and represented by this larger than usual collection, and anyone with a particular favorite tune in his rather loose genre will likely find it here.
After a journey through this collection, listeners may well gain another special melody or two for addition to their personal list of "best ever" songs and singers.
Although it may be considered a bit foolish, some will choose this album for only one or two tracks. Some call that trait wasteful, but when a jewel of performance is played again and again, the teardrop may fall once more, and the heart will thrill yet again.
This album will please many musical palates, even those who claim no special fondness for "Irish Tenors."

Good Bonus Tracks.......2003-06-18

This cd-single features three previously unreleased tracks and a radio edit of "Calling All Angels" from 2003's excellent 'My Private Nation'. The single is vintage Train with a great melody and an incisive, reflective message on the state of society post-9/11. It's a message of guarded hopefullness and very sincerely delivered with a catchy melody as good as anything from 'Drops of Jupiter'. What makes this cd-single worth purchasing, however, is the quality of the three bonus tracks (not available anywhere else thus far). Both "For You" and "Landmine" could've easily fit on 'My Private Nation' and I wonder why they were left off. "Fascinated" is worth hearing as well although it's a little repetitive. Each track is between three and four minutes in duration. These bonus songs aren't nearly as stylistically diverse as the two extra tracks included with the limited edition pressings of 'Drops of Jupiter'. "Landmine" is particularly good although it is rather similar in sound to "Counting Airplanes" from MPN. Well worth purchasing for these hard to track down quality tracks by one of today's best rock n' roll bands.

Angel Bound.......2003-06-08

There is no doubt that Train has been out of the public eye for a certain period of time. Nevertheless, their back with a brand new hit song, Calling All Angels. This personally happens to be one of their best songs currently. Pat Monahan and company surely have come a long way since they started with Meet Virginia back in 1999. Personally, I really enjoyed not just the song, but its video is absolutely breathtaking. I absolutely love the computer-animated graphics. There is no doubt that this is truly one of the top songs for 2003.

Yes!.......2003-05-29

I didn't know trains could fly, but Train certainly soars here. True they don't break any new ground here, but "Calling on Angels" is exactly what I wanted to hear from train anyway. It is Train to perfection and in my mind is superior even to the mega-hit "Drops of Jupiter" I hope these guys continue to make their own brand of uplifting music for a long time.

Refreshing Similarity.......2003-04-29

Train has a sound that is still captured in their latest tracks, without sounding too redundant. These releases are within the same Train style, that most fans will enjoy. If you're expecting a big change, you'll be disappointed. If you liked Drops of Jupiter, you will equally like these new tracks. Great listening.
