4 out of 5 stars The best of Manhattans.......2006-03-13

One of the few bands that could tell you a story in a song

5 out of 5 stars A Lot to Like Here.......2004-12-22

The Manhattans go back to the pre-Beatles (and for the most part the pre-Motown) era so it is not surprising that some of their earlier work such as "I Wanna Be Your Everything" and "One Life to Live" aren't on this compilation. No doubt other record companies were involved in the recording of those songs. There's a lot to enjoy here; even the non-hits are easy to listen to. My sister, a longtime country music fan, heard Blue Lovett do the ...this has got to be the saddest day of my life...opening on "Kiss and Say Goodbye" and made me rewind the tape I had then and replay it over and over on a 90-mile trip to the airport. She had the CD version installed in her bar's juke box. That's the power of the song; it had been almost 20 years since the tune first came out when that happened. And "Shining Star", a truly good love song, is special to me for a 1975 trip my wife and I made as the song was released. Even though those two songs still get preferential play, I enjoy all of their songs here. I recommend this compilation to go with your favorite Chi-Lites CD.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST!.......2003-07-28

Truly one of their finest! Almost every Manhantan song you could possibly want is on this album with one exception "If I Had One Life to Live". I can't seem to find this song anywhere on a Manhattan's CD. They sing a very short version of it on their "Live in South Africa" CD. If anyone knows where I can find this song, PLEASE let me know.

5 out of 5 stars Kiss and Say Goodbye.......2002-09-27

Good music and songs have all been played and sung

5 out of 5 stars The best album.......2001-12-10

This is one of the best, However, I'm still looking for an old one of there's titled "With these hands" which to me is the best. If anyone knows of where I can find it please respond. It's on the Deluxe label DPL12000.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Girl groups have enchanted humankind since the era of the ancient Greeks, when legend has it the Sirens attempted to lure wayfarers Odysseus and Jason to their fates; Persephone's chanteuses would eventually even lose a battle of the bands to the Muses. A couple millennia later, female singers would become a dominant force in the pop and rock of the `60s, the era anthologized on this four-disc, 120-track collection from Rhino. If the "group" tag is something of a misnomer (many of the acts here are solo artists), the vibrant female pop spirit of the times gets showcased in rare fashion by a collection that eschews the obvious to revel in showcasing rarities and surprises at every turn: the bittersweet, life-is-over-when "I'm 28" musings of a two-decades-pre-"Mickey" Toni Basil; a healthy sampling of gems by the Cookies and their various alter-egos, including the Palisades' fervent ode to uber-necking, "Make the Night Just a Little Bit Longer"; the Shangri-Las' mini-epic, "Out in the Streets"; hit songwriter Ellie Greenwich's solo turn on the haunting "You Don't Know." An impressive collection with an inclusive bent, its tracks range across the classic r&b of the Marvelettes, Chiffons and Irma Thomas, country-crossovers Skeeter Davis and Wanda Jackson, the blue-eyed soul of Jackie DeShannon and Dusty Springfield and wounded white-girl pop of Lesley Gore and Connie Francis. It's all contained in one of Rhino's most elaborately designed packages yet: each disc comes in a mock compact; its extensive liner notes and track info printed as a mini-diary; all housed in a smart replica of a vintage hat box--a treasure-packed delight for lovers of the genre and curious novices alike. -- Jerry McCulley

Album Description

It's the kiss that will be heard 'round the world: Rhino salutes the fabulous girl group genre with what is-amazingly and historically-the first boxed set ever to do so! This supersized collection luxuriates through almost five hours of the plethora of sounds, styles, and subjects that represent the beautiful, vibrant, and influential music women were making in the early to mid-60's. A footnote to the pop and rock of the day no longer, the raw emotion and spirited savvy of girl group greatness finally gets its due. Compilation producer Sheryl Farber notes, "Fans have always known how rich and varied this music is-how the sound encompasses soul, garage, Bacharach-style pop, countrypolitan, the British take on the American girl group sound, and more." Now the world will know and fall in love with girl group music too!

5 out of 5 stars More important than the bible.......2007-03-09

First, the downside: no Phil Spector. But, plenty of Shadow Morton and "wall-of-soundalikes." Decent mix of ballads and uptempo numbers. If you like the Detroit Cobras, come find all the originals here! Oh, and the booklet (hell, more of a book than a "-let") has got info on every song and every artist, plus pictures galore. The folks at Rhino continue to add to their superlative reputation for box sets and reissues. Buy or die!!!

4 out of 5 stars Young, female, and unknown.......2007-02-24

ONE KISS CAN LEAD TO ANOTHER * GIRL GROUP SOUNDS LOST & FOUND is truly one one the most unique box sets ever issued. It's also definitely not for everybody, not even all fans of late '50s - early '60s AM radio stuff.

DESIGN:
Remarkable-- simply outstanding. A miniature heavy board glossy hatbox, complete with a sturdy pull string that holds the box lid in place-- inside are four CDs surrounded by gray foam. They're stored on plastic holders that are covered by hard-paper books. Each of these packages has silver paper inside the front cover, and the overall look is of four differently styled powder compacts. Also included is a luxurious 204-page book that sets the standard for all-time. The jewel case sized book, made from heavy stock semi-gloss paper is replete with studio and other photos, advertisement and 45 label repros, and some of the most detailed text ever.

CONTENT:
This is where not all will be interested in this set. It's ideal for the obscurity collector, but not necessarily the TOP 40 fan-- there's only a sprinkling of commonly known tunes here. A lot of these tracks are unknown for a good reason-- some aren't even 'B' side quality. A good percentage of artists in this collection are as obscure as the songs they perform, and for the familiar groups or vocalists, many of their songs may not ring a bell either. This collection is called "LOST AND FOUND" for a good reason.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Overview Of The Girll Group Era.......2007-02-19

With this superb collection of some hits, and many misses during the 'girl group' era that really stretched between 1960 to 1969. The sound pretty much peaked in 1965 while the British Invasion more or less took over the American Top 40 charts, replacing teen anguish and a woman's point of view of growing up in love to what men really wanted to say. That is actually a flip-flop of what men were saying before the 'girls' had their turn, when Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Fabian, and other male teen idols dominated the charts. So, in essence, it was the 'girls' turn after male teen idols were growing older, and the girls had to give some answers.
This set, which is highly imaginative in packaging, includes some rather rare tracks that one would at times would need to find the original 45 release to get in order to hear.
I won't dwell on the obvious tracks here, like by the Shangri-Las, Darnells, Chris Clark, etc., but a few are worth the price of the whole.
My favorite is the contribution by Dolly Parton, "Don't Drop Out". Her voice seems so appropriate, but as we know which direction she chose, this track is one of the best unheard of gems, which is sad, as it should have done something.
Another classic is the 'stereo' version of Alder Ray's "Cause I Love Him", which in sound is alot different than the mono 45 version I possess. Crystal clear in sound, it still packs a punch.
One last great track that this package includes is Reparata & The Delron's "I'm Nobody's Baby Now". This track literally jumps out and bites. Not a Phil Spector sound-alike in intention, but does have a Righteous Brothers "Lovin' Feelin'" to it. Again, another clear and clean production.
I will say that with any package, there will be a few tracks that seriously should have been omitted, like "Egyptian Shumba" by The Tammys, which could have been replaced by another rarity that is not included, like Suzy Walli's "Be My Man" a powerful David Gates production from 1965, but everyone has different tastes. I for one admit that despite the few clunkers, this package is an excellent example of a time when girl groups and girl singers were everywhere.
Consider the fact that about 200 singles were released a week, and only a handful were graced on the Pop Charts. There are bound to be many that are excellent songs, but without the proper advertising, radio play, and touring, the obvious would happen. A good single that bombs.
One of my favorite artists is included, April Young. A shame that this package only inlcuded one track, "To Be Loved By You". It is a good song, but her energetic and rather forceful "Gonna Make Him My Baby" still sounds fresh.
Maybe in time Rhino will release a companion to this set. Sure, there are literally thousands of girl group records that were released in the 60's, like Marcia Strassman's "Out Of The Picture". Who's she? She later played the wife of Mr Kotter in 'Welcome Back Kotter", or "He's My Dreamboy" by Maria Antoinette, and other great girls like Beverly Warren, Roberta Day, Candy & The Kisses, The Joys, The Gleams, Carol Connors, etc. Can go on and on, but this package is worth the price, even to the most infrequent listener of the 'girl group' genre.
There are 4 cd's, so my advice is to just take a lazy afternoon, and while listening to the tracks, read the diary that is supplied. It's a good read, and at times rather refreshing, especially the rare pictures and even the pictures of the rare labels that sometimes one has never seen before.
Like i said, this package is worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2007-01-16

I'm a fanatic for the sound of the girl groups of the early 1960s.
Before it goes out of print, you need to pick up this incredible Rhino box
set.
One little problem is that Rhino's definition of "girl group" was too broad; some songs are female solo recordings on which backup singers play little or no role. And in an apparent attempt to appeal to the British market, they put on some British songs by people such as Cilla Black. The English had no handle on the girl-group sound at all; it was strictly an American phenomenon.
But with four CDs and 30 songs on each CD, who can complain? Some songs, such as several Shangri-Las rip-offs, are hilarious. Then
there's one called "He Makes Me So Mad" by the Hollywood Jills on which the lead singer is reciting her complaints about her boyfriend, and after each gripe the rest of the group comes in with a sarcastic reply. Example: "He told the gang that I swim raw." The reply: "Well, don't you?" Classic!
There's a great Wall of Sound-type song called "Bobby's Come a Long Long Way," produced by Al Kooper. I can't make out any of the lyrics, but
supposedly the song is about Bob Dylan!
You won't regret buying this box.

5 out of 5 stars SIMPLY BRILLIANT!.......2007-01-04

Who ever thought of this, is a GENIOUS! There's so much good stuff in here it's like an overdose of REAL GOOD music. So many great female groups in here, like the Supremes (of the 60's), Reparata & the Delrons, the Marvelettes, Goldie and the Gingerbreads, the Lovelites, the Blossoms (I love their harmonies), and on, and on, and on. GREAT stuff! you wont be dissapointed.

It's a lot less jarring these days to hear R. Kelly's romantic sentiments filtered through Ron Isley's still sumptuous 60-something vocal cords. Kelly wrote and produced 11 of Body Kiss's dozen tracks, hewing close to the sound and spirit of vintage quiet-storm Isley Brothers moments such as "For the Love of You" and "Between the Sheets." Though the lack of writing contributions from Ron and remaining brother Ernie is somewhat dismaying, this is a solid album that's both easy on and ever-so-slightly challenging to the ears. While there's none of the Isley's signature funk-rock here, it's a kick to hear the repeated "whoo" hook on the title track. The Isley Brothers remain playas worth listening to. --Rickey Wright

Ron Isley is the man. This is an awesome album with that old school soul and new school sound.

5 out of 5 stars Great listen.......2007-05-14

The cd has a very good mix of soulfull song with felling and rythem great for general public.

4 out of 5 stars Body Kiss is Excellent!.......2004-12-05

BODY KISS just goes to show that Ron Isley can hang with the new burgeoning R&B stars easily. Ron Isley sounds so smooth against R. Kelly's sensual arrangement. It is almost a collaboration built in heaven. This biggest surprise with BODY KISS is that Ron Isley, Mr. BIGGS is so edgy. The latter half of the album does lose some of the excitement that the first half had, but with albums today that seems to be the case most of the time. Track Picks: "SUPERSTAR", "LUCKY CHARM", "WHAT WOULD YOU DO", "BODY KISS", "BUSTED", and "SHOWDOWN". 4 stars MR. BIGGS!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2004-10-21

This is a great CD! Hip, modern R & B tunes. I am 21 years old and can most definitely appreciate the music from the Isley Brothers. Its a must-have!

4 out of 5 stars Good album by the Isleys.......2004-07-06

I thought that Body Kiss was very well done. R. Kelly might have done most of the album, but the show mainly goes to Ron Isley and Ernie Isley! I liked What Would You Do, both the original and remix versions. I liked the confrontation heavy Busted, where he goes after JS member for cheating on him unexpectedly. Especially the dancing/shopping part of the song, which was funny. A couple of the ballads in the second half recall their late '70s and 1983 period a lot, so all is not lost on here. Ron sometimes comes off like Jay-Z or one of the top rappers on a few of the songs, but his willingness to stay current helps this album. And I loved the one song that Ernie performed guitar on. I still think that Eternal was the better album, but this is just as good a follow up album to that one.

Product Description

The Gert Town area of New Orleans has a rich musical history; its also the birthplace of one Merry Baby Sister Clayton. The daughter of a Baptist minister, Clayton began her recording career in the early 1960s, backing pop star Bobby Darin on Youre The Reason Im Living. She made her first solo recording the following year, cutting the track The Doorbell Rings. That same year, she cut a version of The Shoop Shoop Song (Its In His Kiss) that failed to chart for her, though it later did for Betty Everett, Kate Taylor, and Cher. In the late Sixties, she joined Ray Charles Raelettes, but it was her work on Gimme Shelter from the Rolling Stones Let It Bleed album that brought her to rock audiences consciousness. Moving to Los Angeles in the early Fifties, she carved out a significant career as a backup singer, recording with Joe Cocker, Lee Michaels, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Phil Ochs, and many others. During this time, she also enjoyed several R & B solo hits, including After All This Time and Oh No, Not My Baby. Signed in 1979 to MCA, she cut the Emotion album, which was released early in 1980. Regarded by many of her fans to be her finest album, Emotion covers a lot of musical territory, from the Eagles Wasted Time to an ambitious Sly and the Family Stone medley. The album was produced by Steve Tyrell (way before he became a solo artist in his own right).

5 out of 5 stars A Celebration of Song!!!.......2005-12-02

This is one of the most remarkable works ever recorded! Merry Clayton will blow the top of your head off with these vocals! Just one listen through this cd is infectious. The musicians cook and the production is very fine. The tragedy is that this album was never promoted. Had it been played on the air waves when it was first released in 1979, it would have sold out in no time! Merry's talent has no boundaries and the songs are timeless. A musical treasure, this is one to celebrate!

5 out of 5 stars RIVETING & MAGNIFICENT VOCALS~BRAVO MERRY CLAYTON!!!.......2005-11-07

Merry Clayton is THE #1 legendary session background singer who really can out sing all of the numerous superstars that she has brilliantly backed over the past thirty plus years as this classic set clearly illustrates...opening with an incredibly great version of Webster Lewis' "Emotion", Merry hits the heights in this great song and turns it inside out infusing it with an emotional depth and vocal beauty that is extraordinary to experience and this masterful performance should have been a huge hit and a Grammy Award Winner...a tremendous arrangement plus very inspired play by a group of hot cooking musicians including a scorching soprano sax solo by Ronnie Laws and this is just the opener!!! "Cryin' For Love" hits a wild funky groove with hot driving rhythm that perfectly showcase another soaring and burning vocal...a passionate bluesy masterpiece "When The World Turns Blue (Melodies Of Love)" is stirring and hauntingly brilliant featuring a deeply soulful vocal that is just plain heavenly and quite moving with the great Joe Sample sublime on Acoustic Piano...a vocal tour-de-force is made of Don Henley's "Wasted Time" and by now it is clear that this singer is one of the all-time greatest who should be making LOT'S of very successful albums and be a household name...what is wrong with American Radio and the music industry for letting a masterpiece like this go without exposure and to the industry (i.e. Grammy Award Foundation) for not giving recognition to such a great set of songs done by an incredible artist at her peak...Merry turns "Wasted Time" into a gut-renching emotional experience that is sublime and beyond compare and Don Henley must have been thrilled and moved by this magnificent version of his song which is turned into a timeless masterpiece by this extraordinary performance.
Sly and the Family Stone are given a riveting salute by Merry that should have been and still could be a huge dance club sensation...this suite of songs takes it up a notch higher than the original versions and with exposure would have been equally hot on the charts...this is a smoking set of songs done to the max and once again Merry Clayton's vocals are peerless and burn the tracks!!!
Dangerous is this hot and cooking version of "Armed And Extremely Dangerous" which way outdoes the hit version with a riveting vocal and amazingly great arrangement full of fascinating tempo changes that are loose and wildly funky...a real celebration and again what a vocal performance...this athem should have been a huge dance club hit making one wonder where was the promotion...guess that department must have been out on an extended vacation!
Sadly all great things must come to a close and what better way to end this classic set of magnificent performances but with the crown jewel "Let Me Make You Cry A Little Longer" which Merry Clayton turns into a riveting tour-de-force giving a soul-deep performance that should be a must hear for all wanna be singers or anyone who wants to experience one of the great natural wonders of the music world! THANK YOU Merry Clayton for sharing your tremendous talent...anyone who loves a great, great singer do not miss this limited numbered edition of a true masterpiece...enjoy and lets hope that this once in a lifetime AMAZING talent gets back into the studio and REAL soon!!!

With Kiss the Sky, Will Smith's former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air costar Tatyana Ali ditches acting to enroll in Little Miss R&B 101, a class already crowded with one-name star pupils like Brandy, Monica, Monifah, Aaliyah, and Nicole. With such competition, it's tough to say whether Ali can pull off an A, but the first single, "Daydreamin'," driven by a sample of Steely Dan's "Black Cow," is a good start. The rest of the album however, is sugar-puff light--full of lukewarm ballads, candy-sweet lyrics, and Boyz II Men-like melodies (wherever Boy II Man Shawn Stockman has stamped his writing credits) that don't quite work with Ali's angelic but powerless voice. Don't write her off yet, though--she shows promise and in a few more years may deliver. --Rebecca Wallwork

5 out of 5 stars Kiss The Sky.....7 Years Later.......2005-07-18

Seven years have passed since the release of Kiss the Sky and I am very impressed still. Comparing this to artists of today like Ashanti, Tatyana really impresses me with her debut attempt. Sure the subject matter may be simple, but it's the delivery that pushes the album to me. I particularly love the songs "Boy You Knock Me Out" (anyone who samples Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love" and has Kelly Price on backup vocals and Will's rap is AMAZING in my book), "Daydreamin'," "Everytime" (I LOOOOOVE the Cutfather & Joe Edit though as well), "Kiss the Sky" (beautiful ballad) and "Through Life Alone" (very smooth delivery....like a soft rain). I didn't get this album when it first dropped, but I recall FALLING IN LOVE with "BYKMO" and holding on to that love seven years later. Today, I am still in love with "BYKMO" and I'm falling in love with and appreciating "Kiss the Sky" all over again....especially in the midst of today's crap artists like Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce's Chillun, and Ashanti who believe ho'ing it out is the way to selling a song to an audience. This is an album for all of those who like it simple and not overdone. A simple and directly innocent love ballad is just enough for romance, not some Cater 2 U crap. Tatyana nails it for me. Kudos to you Tati.

5 out of 5 stars Tatyana Ali's Debut Album.......2005-05-13

I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. I fell in love with it instantly. I kept playing this constantly. Tatyana really has a nice voice. I loved that single Daydreamin' which went gold. This album is a languid journey to the heart and soul of modern R&B,a mellow fusion of up-to-the-minute beats and grooves accompained by heartfelt ballads. Each song tells emotional tales of young love, and speaks of the steep highs and deep lows of the journey as felt through that intense perspective, where a brokem heart can quite feel like the end of the world. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 1998.

5 out of 5 stars Nice For Her.......2005-04-09

For her debut album this is nice..I got this CD when it first came out despite the fact that I hated the single that was initially released..Boy You Knock Me Out...that song irked me..It came out right after Lord's over played single came out that it sampled..I still think this cd was hot though..All together..I love the ballads...I would buy it again if that made sense..I hope she is given a chance to come out with another cd, or that she even wants that.

5 out of 5 stars My Favourtite Album.......2005-02-19

Even years after it was released this is still one of my favourite albums. It never grows old. Its a fantastic album for any R'n'B fan. It is worth buying!

5 out of 5 stars Kiss the sky.......2005-01-15

Although I brought the cd, back in the day. I still think that the cd is very good. I mean it has fast some and some you can slow jam to. It's rare you find an cd that is worth buying, much less write a review about several YEARS after the release. I hope that she comes out with an new cd, i'll be some thing that I watch out for. My 2 favorite song on the cd where: Boy you knock me out, and Kiss the Sky.

3 out of 5 stars I expected more..........2007-04-16

Seeing the Quincy Jones's executive production and the Rod Temperton's production I had believed in something different. Yes, Quincy's usually musicians do they're usually terrific work, but the songs have nothing special. The best are tracks 3-7-8, written by Siedah, and track 9 by Rod Temperton (which remebers Rock with you of MJ). Tracks 1-4-5 are danceful and track 6 is a Groove of Rod Temperton. Track 2 is written by a young Babyface.

5 out of 5 stars Another Looked Over Artist.......2007-03-14

Kiss of Life by Siedah Garrett is one of the Best Albums I have ever heard. It is well written, emotionally sang, and musically the most diverse album to date. Nothing on this album sounds even similiar to the accompaning counterparts. Siedah has done, as always, a fantastic job a delivering what I would say are top notch vocals on every track. I bought this album from it first release. Now I am buying it again because the songs have never left me. Siedahs writing techniques are immpeccable. Rod Temperton is the absolute best at what he do and coupled with Siedah and all that she brings to the table, this masterpiece will live on forever. There are so many artists that fall into the Overlooked and Underestimated catagory. Siedah is one that always comes to mind. Another artist is Cherrelle. Siedah has always been and will always be my Female Artist of the My Life time. My hats off to you Siedah..........

5 out of 5 stars HOT.......2006-03-17

Siedah was hot then, sings hot and will always be hot...The album never got the recognition that it deserved. Her voice is unique and she and Rod are fantastic writers, making so many good artists great...I will always be die-hard fan, love her...lee*

5 out of 5 stars The Best R&B of the 80's.......2006-01-07

I have had this on cassette, when it wore out I had to purchase the disc. Before I found it on CD, I bought the vinyl copy. I believe that this is a really good albumn for the 1980's. I used to listen to it, and dance. I am glad that she made a second CD, however it is not as good as this one is. The second CD is alot of reproductions of old songs. But it is definitely worth having if you enjoy Siedah Garrett.. Sit back and relax and enjoy Ruby D...

4 out of 5 stars A good reason why one review is not enough........2004-04-20

I couldn't stand by and let this album get 1 star from just one reviewer.

I bought this album when the video for K.I.S.S.I.N.G. first showed on (I think it was on BET.)

Yes, it is heavy on drum machines and the like, but then, so was much of what Michael Jackson was doing at the time.

The songs on this album are as catchy as any MJ song. Siedah Garret has a naturally "growly" voice. Her voice is similar to Irene Cara from the movie FAME, but way better.

The true test of an album is whether or not you would buy it more than once. I wore the original cassette tape out, then bought it on CD and made a tape for my car from the CD.I still listen to it.

It might not be a 5-star album but it's definitely not a 1.

5 out of 5 stars HUGE Chili Pepper Fan.......2006-12-14

I enjoy this album very much. I am a RHCP fanatic although sometimes I am in the mood for light relaxing music and this fits perfectly. So, I get to enjoy the best of both worlds with this excellent tribute to their work. Might I add that Under the Bridge is beautifully composed here, and is my favorite track of all time and on this album as well.

4 out of 5 stars Not-so-loud Chili Peppers' songs.......2006-10-30

First and foremost, The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a hard rock band. Nobody is going to buy this album in order to hear the Chili Peppers- that would be stupidity. There are only two reasons anybody would purchase this album:

1. You love the Chili Peppers' music and You want a change of pace.
2. You love listening to string instruments (such as the violin).

Buy this album if you love the Chili Peppers' music and you love strings. That sounds like a no-brainer...

5 out of 5 stars enjoyable.......2005-03-10

I realy happend to enjoy this CD. I just bought it recently and every time i listen to it i feel like its the real thing because its so similar. I Love just relaxing to this cd. I think it is worth hearing.

3 out of 5 stars Just my opinion.........2005-01-19

..but I just feel indifferent about this CD. I bought it thinking it would be an orchestrated-type stuff, which it is but I was hoping for something I could relax to. Whenever I hear the music in this CD, I think of weddings. Don't get me wrong, it's a good CD, but just not what I was expecting (which was a more relaxing kind of orchestration).

5 out of 5 stars oh man.......2004-06-29

i bought this cd when i went looking for the last elusive cd that was missing from my rhcp collection(freaky styley, you should buy that one too)...i ended up walking out with this one as well and i rocked it all the way home with my windows open. this isn't an orchestral arrangement, it is a true to the original quartet: every solo, (almost) every fill, and every vocal que is present. The basslines jump from Persiani's prodigious upright (bass) and u can almost picture flea bouncing around. this work brought a whole new breadth and life to th emusic that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end; and for that, i applaud the string quartet.

Here you get to know the pop-side of Brenda Russell. It almost sounds like a Stock Aitken Waterman production. Very pop-ish and very 80s. Quite some fun, but people who look for a song like "Get here" look in vain. There is here own version of "Dinner with Gershwin"(also sung by Donna Summer) and some more catchy tunes like "All Americans".

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best compilation of Betty's music yet released.......2005-05-10

Betty's rousing version of It's in his kiss is the only song she is famous for, but the other twenty-nine tracks here demonstrate her versatility. Betty's first hit was You're no good, which was a top sixty American hit for her and has since become something of a classic. The Swinging Blue Jeans covered it and had a top three British hit with it, then Linda Ronstadt covered it in the seventies and had a number one hit in the American pop charts. Good as they are, neither of those versions is any better than Betty's.

Betty's version of Hound dog is brilliant, yet different from Elvis' version. She had a series of minor American hits with I can't hear you, It hurts to be in love and Getting mighty crowded - all of which are included here, but it's amazing that they didn't chart higher. Betty's classic duet with Jerry Butler (Let it be me) is also included.

For whatever reason, Betty, who had a strong, passionate voice, didn't become the big star that her talent deserved, but this is a highly entertaining collection of her music.
