Customer Reviews:
Standard Great White Stripes.......2006-01-24
The album version of Hotel Yorba plus a performance at Hotel Yorba. Rated X is a nice song about our double standards about women who get divorced and try to have fun afterwards. When the song's over, Jack says "Let 'em talk, Meg." Hmmm, inspired by their own divorce? Maybe. The live version of Hotel Yorba is a different sound with Meg singing back up on the chorus. This is a fun EP to own.
Good stuff - nothing groundbreaking.......2005-12-19
For some folks (me) the Stripes can't do much wrong. There's nothing groundbreaking here but a good old romp with Hotel Yorba. A must have if you're trying to keep the library current.

Customer Reviews:
Needed addition - good stuff.......2005-12-19
Just about anything by the White Stripes is worth it and this short CD is no different. The rendition of "Fell in Love with a Girl" is, as you would expect, raw and edgy. The other two songs (B-sides from a Japanese release I think) are the same. This small group showcases the Stripes energy and experimental freedom. A need addition to any fan's library.
Exactly What You Want.......2005-09-25
For those who felt scorned after buying the "Blue Orchid" single and finding not searing rock through and through, but the quirkyness of "Who's A Big Baby?" and creepiness of "Though I Hear You Calling, I Will Not Answer," have faith. This single is exactly what you want.
It, of course, rocks right through "Fell in Love With a Girl" like it's no one's business--easily one of the Stripes' most appealing songs, at least in the public sense (but I could suggest a dozen more appealing unpopular songs). But the treat here is that the single doesn't slide into the genre experimentation that bugs so many on "Blue Orchid" (it doesn't bug me, but check out that page--all the reviewers go nuts about it). It's a rocker through and through. Both "Let's Shake Hands" and "Lafayette Blues" have the harsh, unpolished sound of "The White Stripes," the album. "Let's Shake Hands" is a straightforward rocker, whereas "Lafayette Blues" is a dabbling experiment for Jack in the French language.
It's wonderful to be able to look back on this single in retrospect, being able to compare it to "Blue Orchid," but it's in no way NECESSARY. This gem stands alone.
B-sides or otherwise.......2003-12-06
Just a head's up in case you didn't know that the two non-album tracks on this are also the bonus tracks for the Japanese version of the "White Stripes" cd. If you have problems with space to store your collection like I do, the import is about as much money as the regular album + the single. The White Stripes are one of those bands where the b-sides are as good as or better (as in this case) than some of the album tracks. "Let's Shake Hands" is a great rave up along the lines of "Let's Build A Home". "Lafayette Blues" was also one of the audio tracks on the free dvd that came with some copies of "White Blood Cells". It's kind of a bizarre song sung in French until Jack quotes: "I'm ready ready Teddy to Rock 'N' Roll", then they just rip it up & play as fast as they can. Meg can't even use her beloved cymbals it's so fast. Get these songs in one way or another.

More good stuff.......2005-12-19
Another good group of singles. Nothing too new here for the masses but if you're collecting the library this is a must have. The cover of "March" is excellent and the "Button" video is good though it received scant airplay when held up against "Seven Nation Army."
Very good.......2005-11-07
"Hardest Button To Button" is one of the less prominent songs in the White Stripes catalogue, mostly because it was eclipsed by "Seven Nation Army". "Hardest Button to Button" is a strong single by itself. "St. Ides of March" is a very good song, as is expected from any White Stripes b-side. The video of "Hardest Button to Button" is not spectacular, but a nice add-on.
Certainly worth buying if you're a die-hard White Stripes fan. If not, just buy the album "Elephant", and the even better new album "Get Behind Me Satan".
Hardest Button To Button.......2003-12-30
Definately wasn't one of my favorite White Stripes songs until I bought this single. Hardest Button To Button is a simple, but very catchy song from the Elephant album with a lot of power behind it. The single includes the song itself (of course), St. Ides of March, and The Hardest Button To Button music video. St. Ides of March is originally a semi-blues/rock number with good ol' lyrics conjured by Ben Walker and Ben Swank and I think Jack and Meg White do an excellent job at covering it. The video is very brilliantly done as well, you have to see it to beleive it. All in all, not a bad single.

Customer Reviews:
Nice surprise with this re-release.......2007-03-29
This is by far one of my favorite anthrax albums. It marked the introduction of lead singer john bush, and continued in the vein of their best album persistence of time. Leading of with the track potters field, this rips through a series of intense, fast paced songs that Anthrax has been well known for over the years, but with a darker, and more political insightful view. It was not just fun and games. Best tracks on this Album are Black Lodge, Only, This is not and Exit, and 1000 points of Hate.
With this european package (released in 2003 with the re-mastered Volume 8 and Stomp 442) It adds the black lodge Strings mix to the CD, and Adds a bonus Video CD that can be played in your CD player. with the videos from this album, and excellent concenpt which should be carried through their catologue, but only got done here on the Electra releases (issued on Nuclear Blast in europe). This is an excellent edition to a collectors collection. It is actually the fourth version I own, and I am still amazed. Check this out.

Don't Count it Out Yet!.......2005-09-25
When I saw the White Stripes at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, the show was scorching. It may have been my first real rock concert, but what a way to start the journey! The duo seamlessly went from song to song--in the first half hour, I was convinced that they were trying to fit in every song from their repertoire. And then, after blasting through songs from literally every album (and even some non-album tracks), a familiar beat rang through--"Seven Nation Army." I'd completely forgotten about the song until that moment.
For those who complain that "Seven Nation Army" is trite and (or perhaps "because") it's overplayed, don't blame the Stripes--they are as familiar (and frustrated) with that fact as we are. For the other reviewer who said this should be a triple-A-side single, you're absolutely correct, and the White Stripes will NEVER treat "Seven Nation Army" as more or less of a song than any of their other material. Even though it's the pop-fodder that led them to the mainstream, they always treat every song like the make-or-breaker of the concert.
The single is fantastic, of course. "Black Jack Davey" opens with some of Jack's most soulful guitar work, and "Good to Me" is a thoughtful tribute to Brendan Benson (with whom Jack is releasing an album in not too long--The Raconteurs) and just a blisteringly good song. But to get the full effect of the White Stripes, you MUST listen to all their material, and you MUST at some point in your life, see a live show.
what can i say?.......2005-04-22
This is without question the song that made the white stripes a household name. Seven Nation Army, off of their newest album "Elephant", is the 1st song on the album. It just draws in. The only thing better than getting this single would be just getting the album its off.
Seven Nation Army.......2003-08-17
Perhaps 4 and a half stars would be more appropriate, but Seven Nation Army is easily the single of the year. The title song is growing weary with me, but still has great impact on the listener is terms of raw power. The progression is the same throughout the song, so it can be redundant if you overplay it, so use sparingly and you'll have a new favorite. This single could have feasibly been a double-A side ala The Beatles due to the strengths of Good To Me. Similar to songs like Black Math and Broken Bricks, Good To me is very simple with lyrics penned by an old bandmate. It works perfectly with Seven Nation Army. Alas, the best is saved for last, and I must say this single could have been a TRIPLE A-SIDE because of Black Jack Davey. A very Physical-Graffitish song with a hooky riff and an incredible fill, Davey goes into the pile with Death Letter, Jolene, etc. as classic covers. Overall, Seven Nation Army is as close as The Stripes will likely get to single perfection.
Another killer single from the Stripes.......2003-06-09
One of the many great things about the White Stripes is that they have constanly put out great singles to supplement their albums. This one is no exception. Unlike the previous single for "Dead Leaves..", this one has two new songs not just reworking of previous material. "Good for Me" is a Brendan Benson cover and a fun poppy two minute blast. "Black Jack Davey" is the gem on this one. A Zeppish reworking of the British tradional ballad, Jack's guitarwork is scorching, and Meg drops one of her heavier beats on this baby. Of course this is all topped off by the album track "7 Nation Army" which is quickly becoming one of their classics.

A bit disappointing............2006-06-22
I would like to start off by saying that I have immensely enjoyed all of Matthew Good's music up until now. I really anticipated this album and expected something genius like most of his other works (e.g. Avalanche or MGB's Audio of Being). However, after patiently listening to the album over weeks and weeks, although I have grown to like it, the album is definitely lacking something; the 'something' that was the reason I loved all of his other albums so much. Starting with Underdogs, all the albums have been incredible, and I feel kind of let down over this album. I don't really care for the country-vibe he's put on this one; he's much better doing the rock thing. Was rather disappointed with the lyrics as well, I've always thought he had the best lyrics especially on Audio of Being; which I personally thought had some brilliant stuff on it. I still have faith that he'll make more great music, and not that this album was a total failure. "Blue Skies Over Badlands" is a great track, as well as "We're So Heavy." The guitar playing on this album is probably the highlight. Really different than anything he's put out before. (like on put out your lights, poor man's grey, we're so heavy, and blue skies, and even certain parts in it's been awhile since i was your man). I think he could have made better use of his vocals on this one; maybe it just seems like that because I've listened to Avalanche too many times. Overall, good cd, if you're a matt good fan or were a mgb fan, definitely give this a chance. Hopefully he's just experimenting and the next album will be better.
as country as anyone needs to be.......2005-09-06
matt branched out into a sumwhat uncharted region for this cd, althought i hate country music it still has enough of a message in its rock roots too warrant it werthy of a listen.
I admit. I Miss New Wave........2005-05-11
Well, it's been several months since I received Matthew Good's "White Light Rock & Roll Review" which was by far one of my most eagerly anticipated releases of 2004. Not much struck me on my first listen except how different the whole approach was to this album from his previous "Avalanche" (an absolute MUST purchase BTW) but I had read a bit about its development and felt I knew what to expect. My interest was peaked and it became clear that unlike just about all of Matt's other releases, this one was going to have to grow on me if it had any hope of taking hold. As I said, it's been months and dozens more listens and there's still not much happening. I appear to be in the minority of Matthew Good fans who seem to really like this (if fellow Amazon reviewers are anything to go by), but I find this album to be a curiosity at best, and largely unsatisfying.
It has a decent lead off single "Alert Status Red" although despite some topical lyrics even that has a -we've heard it all before- kind of vibe. The opening two tracks start loud and never take enough to time to even bother to go nowhere quickly. "It's Been a While..." & "Bad Idea" seem to harken back to songs that were better done on "Beautiful Midnight" but might appeal to fans of his more radio friendly stuff. "We're So Heavy" holds the promise of a well made tune but then reverts to an incongruous medley of sorts held together only by its lyrics. The Who homage "Ex-Pats..." sounds like it might have made a nice b-side someday.
Even the stuff I've grown to like quite a bit is flawed. "Blue Skies Over Bad Lands" seems to have everything you would want out of a MG epic, but it's minimalist arrangement doesn't seem to build along with its escalating ideas. It runs out of steam. I get the feeling I'd have to actually be in the room with the guy for this tune to have its full effect. "North American Life" is very good material but at 2:07 if you blink, you'll miss it. There's a sort of alt-country bonus track here that has a lot of charm too.
Matthew Good is a real virtuoso in a lot of ways. I was quite spoiled to first hear his whole catalog just prior to the release of "Avalanche" a couple years ago. It was deluge of sound and ideas and really got me excited about a new artist in way I hadn't been in quite a while. I'm still in the Matthew Good camp and can't wait to hear what he has in store next. After all, even a 3-star album like this has a multitude of moments that impress: a break, a turn of phrase, a strategically placed crack of the voice. The difference between this album and most of his others is that here these moments don't seem to add up to anything lasting.
And I really have tried to give it a fair shake.
Aint no blue skies over bad lands, even if it aint raining........2005-02-25
For 8 years I have called Matthew my favourite artist of all time - and he's the only one I've ever bestowed with that title. And with "White Light Rock & Roll Review" we have finally, after many ups and downs, arrived back at where we should be. Matt is making his music and having a blast again.
"White Light" is a protest album, done in the classic fashion of 60's-style rock and roll, country, ballads, you name it. It's raw and unpolished. There's hardly any effects. The staple string section is now gone. And my God is it awesome.
Every song can be counted as one of the best songs on the album. But the best examples are "We're So Heavy," which starts off with an uptempo drive and then abruptly slows down into a searing power ballad with one of the best guitar solos on the album; "Empty Road" is the first to re-introduce the folk-country influence that marked Matthew's earliest work. With slide guitar and all it may sound hokey in description but in practise it's as catchy as anything you're likely to hear; "North American For Life" is probably the loudest, angriest, most humorous protest song ever made and makes no apologies for the subject of its contempt.
By this point the album is already at a 5 star rating but the best is yet to come.
"It's Been A While Since I Was Your Man" is a picture-perfect love ballad. "Buffalo Seven" is worthy of being named among the best late 60's rock songs. "Ex-Pats Of The Blue Mountain Symphony Orchestra" is about as Who or Zepplin-esque as the album gets. But it's one hell of an epic closer (discounting the hidden track). All of these are brilliant songs, easily the best from the album. But one song stands off in its own category. It could very well be the best song Matthew has ever written in his entire life so far.
"Blue Skies Over Bad Lands" is one of those slow-boiler, endlessly building songs that never erupts into a caucophony of loud noise. Instead it builds to a point when it's about to burst and then burns like a flame for over a minute. Again this is done through another one of the best guitar solos on the album. To fully appeciate how impacting this song is, you have to see it performed live, with the lights turned off and strobe lights flashing randomly on the walls and the roof giving the impression that the bombs are falling.
It gives you shivers.
And if that sounds lame to you, then this probably isn't your bag. For shame.
Brilliant.......2005-01-11
Matthew good is back on top form with an album that albeit quite different to avalanche, is just brilliant. If youve only known MG for his avalanche album then maybe youll be abit suprised, Its quite faster but still has those emotion grabbing lyrics and great tunes. A must for MG fans.

NOT JAPANESE BUT RUSSIAN !!!.......2007-05-31
WATCH OUT WITH THIS NEW SERIES OF BEATLES WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REMASTERED AND MADE IN JAPAN.
THIS NOT THE CASE THIS IS A FALSE JAPANESE MINI LP. THEY ALL COME FROM LETHONIE ESTONIE AND RUSSIA. THE QUALITY IS OK BUT NOT GOOD AS A JAPANESE. THEY ARE A LOT OF DEFEATS IN THE OVERALL PRESENTATION. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IT'S ABSOLUTELY NOT REMASTERED AND THE SOUND IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL EVEN BELOW. ALSO THOSE CDs ARE NOT IN CLOSEABLE PLASTIC ENVELOPPE AS ALL JAPANESE CD. EVEN BRAND NEW THEY HAD SCRATCHS AND ARE NOT CLEAN.
AS A COLLECTOR OF JAPANESE MINI LP WHO BOUGHT THIS ONE I ASSURE YOU THIS IS A FAKE.
