5 out of 5 stars ridiculous...in a great way.......2006-12-31

So for those of you that have a special place in your heart for the Refreshments like I do - because God knows that over the last decade plus this CD has been there - through a lot of strange times and all my encompassing emotions. Anyway whether you love it or don't - the bands lead singer along with the bassist - I believe but could be wrong - have formed another band several years ago called 'Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers' and have released several CDs very much true to their original sound but tweaked in some places. Anyway if you love the Refreshments you should definetly check them out.

5 out of 5 stars Most Unerrated Album EVER?.......2006-08-06

I think it's certainly possible that FFBB (as we in the "know" like to call it) is, at the very least, the most underrated album of the 90s. The songs on FFBB sound as fresh and real and often brilliant as they did a decade ago.

Much is made in some of the Amazon reviews about the "humor" of the Refreshments' lyrics, and while it's true that there are some laugh out loud moments if you really listen to the words ("European Swallow" surely has its moments), the Refreshments are more genuinely clever than just "funny" when they keep it light, and downright contemplative when they dig a little deeper, as they do with "Nada."

FFBB also contains what I consider one of the best love songs ever. "Down Together" is another of those clever songs, but its so much more than that. It's truly a rare example of a pop song that actually gets love right. It's not sappy, and the sentimental turns ("Your breath, it smells like wine, I like that a lot, especially when I kiss you") feel so genuine that it seems almost like eavesdropping on a slightly tipsy conversation between to people who are deeply in love. Honestly, I could deconstruct this one song for hours, and never begin to touch the heart of it.

Just buy this album, go out and see Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (pretty much The Refreshments V2.0) if they come to your town, and consider that this is what rock and roll should always feel like.

My friend, Dana, turned me on to the Refreshments about 10 years ago and I can't thank her enough!!! Roger Clyne and company definitley take you on a ride with their Tex-Mex sound and wild story-telling! There isn't a track to skip on here and this surely makes my list of top 5 CDs!! Viva La Refreshments!

5 out of 5 stars Quite Possibly One Of The Best Albums Ever Made.......2006-06-21

This may be one of the best, most fantastic, most listenable albums ever made...

I first encountered The Refreshments back when you could hear "Banditos" on the radio all the time. I love/loved that song and promptly went out, bought this record and I fell in love with them. It's like some other people have said you go out you buy a record, you hope it has a few good songs on it... But with this one... Well, in my humble opinion there isn't a bad song on this album. Not a one.

I may buy a new CD or two weekly and I may listen to all kinds of different music but this album never leaves my CD changer. It's in there somewhere, waiting... I can listen to this when I'm happy, sad, depressed, angry, you name it and this baby has a song with your name on it...

And I swear that the last song "Nada", is the kind of song that makes me want to grab an old pick up truck and drive off into the sunset... And that's another thing about this CD, it's is terrific road trip/travel music, just outstanding.

Buy this album. Buy it now.

I'm mostly a punk and metal fan, and yet I have only two things to say about this album: 1.) It should be issued at birth. 2.) Buy two copies in case one ever gets lost or ruined.
