    The ritual piece is recorded in a complete context rather than anthologized. Spirits metamorphosis into animals, while running across the encampment between 11 pm and 4 am. The phosphorescent beings come out of the forest to provoke the villagers to celebration. Celebration is an essential part of the Bayaka lifestyle. Once the festival is initiated they can go on for many months; the longest festival known among the Bayaka lasted for two years. They are a hemp using culture.

      I have been a Bonzo fan for more than 30 years, having discovered them right after they disbanded. Bonzo's witty lyrics and stage antics distracted many listeners from their high degree of musicianship. The performances are very strong and the songs are catchy and memorable.

      The first four Bonzo albums are all masterpieces of dada pop/rock: get Gorilla, Urban Spaceman, Tadpoles and Keynsham (and yes, I recommend that you should buy them - each deserves five stars) before you buy Anthropology. Anthropology is mostly demos for Tadpoles and Keynsham. If you get the Cornology box set plus Anthropology then you will have almost everything.

      This music is so amazing. I can't seem to get enough of it. It's got awesome techno beats mixed with some amazing ethnic sounds and music. Even if you're not into techno you'll like this because it's so interesting. I've enjoyed it immensely and I can't wait to get more like it!!

      You can appreciate this CD from various angles. There are authentic ethnic samples: didgeroo, andean flutes, etc. There are bone-crushing techno beats. There are dreamy ambient grooves. One of my all-time favorites. I came here looking for Volume 2 which, sadly, never materialized. Highly recommended.

        Album Description

        What's the Danish word for Marshmallows? If you answered "Skumfiduser" you are correct and will no doubt enjoy Applebaum's work for orchestra and computer-generated tape of the same name. The intellectual and audio pyrotechnics don't end there on this unlikely new disc: "Martian Anthropology" posits that scholars from Mars visit the Earth after its destruction and piece together the entire history of civilization from three objects they dig up. They might be anything; a wheelchair, a business card for an escort service, and a tube of Chapstick, for example. The rest is up to you and your imagination. Four Applebaum mega-works for orchestra and electronics are gathered here and will redefine your next symphony experience. Listening to Ferneyhough on a sugar high does not even come close to this trip.

        5 out of 5 stars Mind Expanding.......2002-10-12

        This is a very difficult album to review. For an electronic release, it is so muti faceted it takes a few lessons for it to sink all in. There are overwhelming beats, overlapping strange atmospheres, intersperesed with ambience. Fans of Future Sound of London should enjoy this disc. It utilizes that same unpredictabilty. But Lance and John Bergin(from C17H19NO3 fame) perhaps go a bit further. This disc needs to be heard to be believed, it is one of the most challenging electronic albums I have heard, fully invocing rhythm and chaos. I strongly recommend this album to people who enjoy off kilter drum work, and dark atmospsheres, and those who are tired of predictable electronic music.
