5 out of 5 stars They should have been the Extremely Fabulous Rhinestones..........2006-06-09

A fellow student in college, back when I was a bit younger, said "hey listen THESE guys Mr. Guitar player"Whether he said it sarcastically or to be informative mattered little ,cause "These guys were the Best"!!There are few bands that had such a distictive and put a s*** eating grin on your face debut album with one cut after the next different, played to the nines and sure to get your fingers snapping, rear end bopping, or for you players, a leap to the amp and a snap of the cord into the guitars jack and wail right along.(only Moby Grape's first, The Dregs stuff and Steely Dan's first were in this league for my money). Kal David was(is) just the tasty meister on the 6-string, with great vocals, Harvey Brooks on the bass and Mr. Greb saxing away. from the opening whump of "Nothing new" to the wall of horns etc in "Free" to the sax solo ending "What a wonderful thing we have"(which they reproed live with I believe Marty playing dual saxes when I saw them at the old Lone Star in Manhatten when they were there). The second albums good If and when it comes out but this one?....GET it you idiot, it's cheap at twice the price!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Missing Pieces.......2006-04-19

I agree, heartily, with what the most favorable of reviews have said about these guys, who, by the way, released two more subsequent albums, the second of which was nearly as good as this first. I am writing to add three things: one, these guys were also to be compared favorably with the, "blue-eyed soul," label that was about during that time. Secondly, Marty Greb had been a founding member of the Buckinghams, though this band was a heck of a lot more soulful and their music really moved you to dance. Three, these guys were a gas to see live. I guess that makes it four additons

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous Rinestones, a 1972 Kal David Classic: "What a Wonderful Thing We Have".......2006-02-27

In 1972, while the world was getting over Hippies and the commercialization of rock bands, many bands were moving in together to concentrate on surviving, doing gigs, and making music. The Fabulous Rhinestones were no exception. Kal David was a member of "Illinois Speed Press" and Harvey Brooks was the foundation of "The Electric Flag", and a consumate session bass player for Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield.

In 1972, the two banded together and lived in a large home in upstate New York to concentrate on music concept of fusing rock guitar licks (Kal David), blues (Harvey Brooks), and jazz (Marty Grebb).

The result is an amazing album and a cult favorite in New York, the Midwest, and in California.

"What a Wonderful Thing We Have" is such a superb blend of American music and was, and remains, a solid classic, albeit fairly obscure and unknown.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Rhinestones.......2006-02-21

Saw them many times at the Shaboo Inn in Storrs, Connecticut (nightclub of choice in the late 70's and early 80's for UConn students.) This band was the best thing there was before the Radiators from New Orleans (which you can still see in concert.)

5 out of 5 stars Long overdue; early 70s.......2003-12-30

The Fabulous Rhinestones were one of the best-loved bands in the Northeast, but due to the fortunes of the music business never secured the commericial success they deserved. The founding members Kal David (formerly played around Chicago with the likes of Paul Cotton and Peter Cetera), Marty Grebb (The Buckinghams) and Harvey Brooks (Electric Flag and consumate sideman for Bob Dylan, Miles Davis and many others), created a terrific blues-based body of original tunes.

5 out of 5 stars Bringing Back Memories..........2001-07-28

Like the last reviewer said, "It's about time."

One of the guys in my house in college found this album and bought every copy the store had. We all had a copy and most of that year you could walk through the house and hear this music in every room.

An (ex)friend ruined my copy and it's great to be able to hear this music again.

5 out of 5 stars About Time !.......2001-07-23

I was thrilled to finally see that some of the great work of The Rhinestones has been released on CD. Give this disc (their first album) a listen and be ready for some tight playing and great vocals. Kal Davids guitar playing is fantastic. Now, how about releasing the other 2 albums on disc ?

5 out of 5 stars One of the best bands not to make it big!.......2001-06-27

The rhinestones are such a great band and unfortunatly never made it big. This album showcases the bands mix of blues/r&b with an accute pop-sensibility. Great players and vocalist make this a joy to listen to. I also highly recommend both of their other albums.
