5 out of 5 stars Excellent summary of six of their studio CDs.......2001-12-19

This is one of the two imported versions of Survivor's Greatest Hits (the other one is called "Fire In Your Eyes"). Each CD has 18 songs (a real bargain!) I compared the song lists of the two, and there are only four songs which are on both CDs ("Eye Of The Tiger", "High On You", "I Can't Hold Back", and "The Search Is Over", which are four of their biggest hits). Of the two, this CD has fewer of the "hits" and more of the album cuts. It does not contain the two movie soundtrack cuts "Burning Heart" and "Moment Of Truth". It is more of a chronological presentation of six of their seven studio CDs, which includes most (but not all) of their hits. The main quibble with this CD is that it does not include any tracks from "Caught In The Game". There are three tracks from "Survivor", three from "Premonition", three from "Eye Of The Tiger", ZERO from "Caught In The Game", four from "Vital Signs", two from "When Seconds Count", and three from "Too Hot To Sleep", in order by album (but not by track order within the album).

I cannot attest to the sound quality or whether these are the full-length versions of the songs, but I can definitely recommend this CD based on the song list. I recommend it mainly for those who may own a couple of the studio CDs and want some songs that are not on those CDs. It also supplements their "Greatest Hits" CD quite nicely. I don't recommend it as a standalone greatest hits package unless you can live without some of the hits available on the other greatest hits CDs. Of course, what I really recommend is buying all seven studio CDs and one of the other greatest hits CDs, then you're all set. But you can't go wrong with this one, either.

5 out of 5 stars Collection of What I Like To Hear In Live!.......2001-02-24

In my opinion it is far better than official compilation because of the choice of tracks. Particularly tracks like It's A Singer Not The Song(boy, it is one of my favorites), Chevy Nights, and Rebel Son is the reason why you should get it including myself.

Oh, Jimi Jamison should get this to learn older Survivor tracks and show his brillant performance in live.

But it is not the greatest Survivor compilation because track order is simply chronological. If you are serious Survivor fan get Finest Selection--The Search Is Not Yet Over if you can.

1 out of 5 stars Hits? Some. Their best? Not quite........2001-02-20

I consider myself a huge Survivor fan. I own all of the albums they released from "Survivor" through "Too Hot To Sleep." Missing from this collection: "Somewhere In America" (from "Survivor" and one of the other greatest hits albums); "Light Of A Thousand Smiles" (from Premonition - which I don't think you can get anymore!); "I'm Not That Man Anymore" (from 'Eye of the Tiger'); "Caught In The Game" (from the album of the same name) ... in fact the whole "Caught In The Game" album was entirely ignored on this CD! However - you do get 3 very good songs from "Premonition" (Chevy Nights, Runway Lights, and Summer Nights). Personally, I'd recommend getting all the Survivor albums that are still available - there is a LOT more to this band than the hits that made it on the radio. Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan were a great songwriting team, and both Dave Bickler and Jimi Jameson were amazing vocalists. All in all, a completely underrated band. But, if you're only after the hits, buy the other greatest hits CD, Vital Signs and Eye Of The Tiger. Skip this one, unless you want the unavailable "Premonition" tracks.

4 out of 5 stars The Best Song in the Whole World.......2000-06-16

This is not the greatest Survivor CD. It has some lousy songs that are repetitive and get boring but there are 3 songs in this CD -back to back to back that are the three best in history. That is- I can't hold back, high on you, and my personal alltime favorite song, The Search is Over. This song is the most touching song I have ever heard. It will be classic forever. If for no other reason, I would buy this CD for this price just for these three songs.
