Sousa's marches.......2007-06-28
Excellent CD! I'm happy with the speed in which it arrived at our home.
OK, But Not As Good As the Original.......2006-08-12
It's OK, but doesn't have the quality of Sousa's original songs which were also played by a United States Marine Band.
Sousa Marches, MC Band.......2006-08-04
I was totally happy with the CD. It was everything I expected it to be. Thanks Much
This is so great!.......2005-03-27
This music speaks to my inner being, my father was a Marine with the ETC, and it was not an easy time. Music like this helped him think about how the best things in life are two doors down on the left, just a shade away from peace. I love this music, track 13 speaks to me so much that I am not sure if I have the time to listen as much as I want to! Such great music!
A Great Sousa Collection.......2004-12-15
These recordings seem to date from the 1960s and reflect a style of play that is impossible to find today. Some people might consider the sound to be too bright, the entrances too aggressive. But I think this is more authentic for Sousa than what one generally hears today. Sousa himself is known to have preferred "enthusiastic" entrances from his players, to have favored an "orchestral" sonority for his band and to have played his marches in strict tempo with no ritards or tempo changes. That is what you have on this disc, which features the Marine Band under Lt. Col. Albert Schoepper, who also conducts on Volume 3 of Altissimo's Sousa Original series.

The Rocker and The Balladeer.......2007-06-08
This album is not my favorite MB offering, but there are four incredible songs on it that I dearly love, one being my "sometime" favorite MB tune. I'm only going to mention these songs in my little piece here. I titled my review as I did because of the perfect display of Justin's and John's strengths on this album, Justin being the soulful balladeer and John the ultimate rocker. These two great men are just "all that" in my book, so I gotta give 'em their due.
Justin Hayward's 'New Horizons', partially inspired by his late father, is a stunning song in every way. Both the arrangement and the music are wonderful, with the strings and Justin's guitar sounding almost mournful at times. Hayward's voice has such a sad and deep note to it as well and he uses it masterfully. His wide vocal range is spotlighted here, along with John's perfect use of subtle and understated harmonies. This song just grabs you by the heart and never lets up, but at the same time it's so beautifully done that you have to enjoy it as well. "Horizons" is just simply Justin Hayward doing what he was born to do.
Ray Thomas' 'For My Lady', written for the woman he was then married to, is this man at his awesome best. His rich baritone voice, with all its layered nuances has never sounded better, and it soared on the higher registers. The music and lyrics, which are both outstanding, complement each other so well. What more can I say except this is a beautiful song and Ray sings it to perfection. As an aside, I am so very glad he sang it at the 'Red Rocks' concert a few years back for all the world to discover and enjoy.
John Lodge once again manages to both playfully rock me and deeply touch my heart with his two songs on this album. A lot of fans and critics consider Lodge's beautiful 'Isn't Life Strange' to be his best song. It is a favorite of mine, as well. To all those who say John is neither a great singer or writer, I dare you to conclude that after giving this song a really good listening to, preferably two or three. John has never written so poignantly and eloquently as on this song. He writes: "Isn't life strange? A turn of the page. A book without light unless with love we write". WOW! is all I can say. John's airy, ethereal voice- not to mention his fabulous falsetto- have never sounded better or stronger. Justin's co-lead and harmonies once again show how terrific these two men sound together. The orchestral arrangements are wonderfully done without overwhelming the song, only adding to its magnificence.
I'm saving the best for last: John's 'I'm Just a Singer In a Rock n Roll Band'. This song frequently trade places with 'Ride my Seesaw' as my absolute favorite Moody Blues song. 'I'm Just a Singer' is THE consummate rock song and John Lodge is so very much in his element on this great song. My gosh but the man can rock it out like no one else. John wrote this song in response to the legions of "spaced out" fans who worshipped the Moodies as their messiahs. Thank God for those misguided fans or I wouldn't have this great song to enjoy- lol! Not only is the song plain fun to listen to, its lyrics actually have a deep meaning. This song is a winner in every way possible. All the Moodies give stellar performances vocally and instrumentally. The rhythm, beat and tempo of this song are outstanding, carried along by the masterful hands of Graeme Edge on percussion (his best performance, IMO) and John on his funky Fender bass. Mike Pinder's keyboards/ Mellotron work is absolutely incredible, and Justin's blazing guitar solo blisters the ears. I love to listen to this song cranked up full throttle while wearing headphones. I hit 'repeat' and off I go rocking for an hour or more on just this one song alone. (No, I never get tired of it- not yet anyway) I'm sure I have sustained major ear damage but the sheer joy this song brings me is well worth it. If I still smoked cigs, I'd have to light one up after experiencing the genuine pleasure this song gives me- it's that good! To all the fans who got to see this song performed live pre-hiatus, I am so very green right now. To me, this phenomenal song is the Moody Blues at their ultimate best.
Well dear folks, that's my take on 'Seventh Sojourn', four songs of it anyway. Take a listen to it...... and enjoy. As for John Lodge and The Moody Blues, I have to say that they are MUCH more than "just singers in a rock n roll band" to us fans. They are a fantastic group of talented men who bring so much needed joy and pleasure to a hurting world. Thank you!
"Seventh Heaven!" :).......2007-05-20
To start off, what a topnotch remastering job on this splendid release! :)
On this occasion, Mike Pinder gets to open up a Moody Blues album with one of his compositions, "Lost In A Lost World"... I like the instrumental verse in the middle of the song, as well as the stereo effects on the vocals near the end, with the "So many people" chant on the right channel and the "Lost In A Lost World" chant on the left (Best experienced through headphones).
"When You're A Free Man" is an equally fine Mike Pinder song, and there is a sense of hope in the lyrics ... I love the one line that states:
"You know that love lasts ... For Eternity...
Let's be God's Children ... And live in Perfect Peace"
I love how the instrumentation in the fadeout to this track merges with the fade-in of the drums in the intro to "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)." Both this superb John Lodge composition and Justin Hayward and Graeme Edge's "You And Me" are excellent rockers that open up and close the second half of this album ... The brass effects on the former track are really neat and give the song that extra "punch," plus the group chant on the Justin and Graeme composition, before the lyrics "You're an ocean full of faces" is executed to perfection!
Both Justin's "New Horizons" and "The Land Of Make Believe" have a dreamy atmosphere about them, especially "Make Believe" (Beautiful xylophone effects and flute). Excellent dueling electric guitars (Also best experienced through headphones) on the solos to "New Horizons," as well. :)
For me, Ray Thomas' pleasant "For My Lady" paints the picture of a man on a cruise boat with the woman of his dreams! I love the way the song flows into John Lodge's fantastic "Isn't Life Strange," as both songs are played in the same chord ... Both Justin and John do an excellent job trading off vocals, and the harmonies sound nice on the choruses. I'm glad that this remastered edition of the album (As well as "Time Traveller") features a clean fadeout of the song that doesn't abruptly merge into the intro to "You And Me," like the earlier CD format of the album, released in the 1980's, did. To go off on a slight tangent for a bit, I'm probably one of the few (Or maybe the only one) listeners who enjoys the 1989 orchestral remake of "Isn't Life Strange," from "Legend Of A Band," just as much as the original version!
It's difficult for me to pick a favorite on this recording, since I enjoy all eight songs equally! I want to close this review by typing out one of my favorite Justin Hayward quotes from the live "Hall Of Fame" release:
"We're just Singers in a Rock and Roll Band!"
Thanks for reading! God Bless... :)
The last of their golden era, and one of their best.......2007-05-12
Said to be loosely based on the Canterbury Tales (or at least it started that way), Seventh Sojourn was the Moodies' last album before a lentghy hiatus. They definitely went out on a high point.
Three of their FM radio/concert staples are found here: "For My Lady," "Isn't Life Strange," and "I'm Just A Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)". That alone will probably be enough for any serious fan to want this disc. (If you are a serious fan and you aren't familiar with any one of those, trust me, you need to buy this!) But what about the five other songs? Like most Moody Blues album tracks, they take a bit of getting used to, but are worth the repeated listens. The opener, "Lost in a Lost World," comes as close as any song does to explaining why they broke up temporarily after this album, with its themes of isolation and lack of communication. But on the surface at least, it's not autobiographical. It's more of a rather cynical statement on the world at large. "New Horizons" begins almost dirge-like, but the balladish melody masks an optimistic tale of finding oneself. "You and Me" is one of their heavier rockers, and the "story" it tells works on a couple of levels. "The Land of Make Believe" and "When You're a Free Man" are characteristic acoustic ballads with orchestral backing, less radio friendly than the songs you already know but just as enjoyable once you get used to them.
The Moodies are as close as any progressive rock band ever came to being singles-oriented rather than album-oriented, and it does show occasionally here. Still, it's one of the most consistent albums they ever made.
A must have for any Moody Blues fan.......2007-04-15
While this is not my personal favorite , it is the most commercial of the 7 concept albums . It is a stylistic bridge to the band's later work . The weakest cut is When You're A Free Man . Even though it marked the end of the band's 2nd incarnation ( remember Go Now ) it really doesn't come off that way . I have 14 of their albums , including all 7 concept albums ( in vinyl and CD ) and this is the one I would recommend to the casual fan . This is the first art rock band that was commercially successful . King Crimson , E L P and Yes all came later . It is unfortunate that this , last album arrived at a time when the art rock era was just starting . It actually propelled sales of the band's earlier work . The band would have even more wildly popular had Days Of Future Past been released in 1971 instead of 1967 . This is the only album of their's to be released during tha art rock era and by the time they got back together , the era had passed .
The Sojourn is Over.......2007-01-30
I like this album , it's the perfect ending to the Classic 7. As usual the Moodie 3 R's - Rock, Romance and Risk are all covered.

Mike Pinder's Lost World.......2007-05-25
If anything, this final CD reissue of the Moody Blues initial seven records will remind the listener how vital Mike Pinder was to the Moody Blues. On each track of Seventh Sojourn, his arrangements come to fore, his stamp is on each track. The wispy figure in "New Horizons", the swirls in "You and me" and "Singer in a rock and roll band", the thick flute sounds of "My Lady". These are some of Pinders most imaginative moments in Moody Blues history.
He also provides the much-needed edge on this release, compensating for the rather sedate predecessor "Every Good Boy". On Seventh Pinder uses a Chamberlain to great effect, producing a cleaner, brighter, less murky sound than the mellotron used on subsequent recordings. Pinder also opts for one of the few bona-fide Justin Hayward guitar solo's (and a memorable one) on his composition "When You're a Free Man".
"Seventh" was recorded during a period of band fatigue. Like the Beatles, they had spent most of the early adult life together. The liner notes detail the unusual length of time (for the Moodies) spent in 1972 on completing this eight song album.
Fans will not want to miss the 4 bonus tracks. The never before released 8 minute version of "Life Strange' is the first highlight- opening with a piano count in omitted in the standard release. The clarity of this version is better, one can hear the pump organ breathing and wheezing through the track. . However, the big surprise is when after the oboe fade sequence Pinder's Chamberlain swoops in to begin a 2 minute instrumental section. As is, it seems to have been left unfinished-to these ears, it seems to have been laid down as the background for a big guitar solo. It's assumed the band decided to leave this section off the track before atempting overdubs.
The "Lost World" instrumental demo is another revelation and the highlight of this release. It opens quite differently than the released version with a prominent, ominous guitar riff, and has a slight 70s soul sound to it. (Not too surprising, considering Pinders r&b roots.) The drumming also has more of a soul feel to it, and it really stands as a track on its on-it would fit nicely into a soundtrack.
"Island" appears to be an abandoned track with a scratch vocal, the chorus is not developed, (Justin Hayward scats this section) and what remains is a basic backing track with a neat ascending Chamberlain figure that repeats in intensity until the end of the track. What is also interesting about this track is that the band recorded this as early as Feb 1973- only a few months after "Seventh Sojourn" had hit the top of the charts. The liner notes make no mention of any other recording attempts after "Island" and after a long lull of seeming inactivity the band embarked on a world tour (perhaps obliged by contractual reasons) in Sept. 1973 ending in Feb. 74 in San Francisco.
One hopes a live concert from one of the 74 concerts is eventually released. The song selection was challenging (the concert opened with "Higher and Higher" which morphed into "Out and In", and numbers such as "Eternity Road", "One More Time to Live","Watching and Wating" and an extended "Legend of a Mind" were performed.)
"Seventh Heaven," Deluxe Edition! :).......2007-05-20
*The following comments are in regard to the bonus tracks on this release. To read my opinions on the original content of this album, check out my review under:
"Seventh Sojourn" by The Moody Blues (Audio CD - 1997) - Original recording remastered
Here is what I enjoyed about each of these outstanding bonus offerings...
"Isn't Life Strange" (Original Version):
The piano "count in" was a surprise, as I don't believe a piano was anywhere to be heard on the final version of the song! The instrumental break, that was edited out of the final version, was beautifully executed and reminded me of "The Voyage" from "On The Threshold Of A Dream" (In certain places) and "The Word (Mellotron mix)" from the Deluxe Edition of "In Search Of The Lost Chord," in true Mike Pinder mellotron style! The fadeout is extended a little further, so we can hear The Moodies singing a tad more than on the final version of the song. :)
"You and Me" (Beckthorns Backing Track):
This version of the song blew me away with the keyboard tracks in place of the vocals ... To me, the instrumentation sounded similar to the mellotrons heard on "The World Today," from Mike Pinder's 1994 release, "Among The Stars." The extra instrumentation, that was edited out of the finished product, was a treat, as well! Sounds like background music that could be used during a Moody Blues radio interview. :)
"Lost in a Lost World" (Instrumental Demo):
The haunting electric guitars, in place of the vocals, really grabbed my attention on this version of the song ... This riff sounds more like David Gilmour's style (Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason," in places) than Justin Hayward's! What a wickedly beautiful sound! :)
"Island:"
Until this reissue came along, this amazing unreleased gem would have made a fine bonus track to Justin Hayward's "Songwriter." The tune also reminds me of something Justin would have come up with for "A Question Of Balance," had The Moodies created the song at that time. More magnificent mellotron/Chamberlain playing from Mike Pinder, yet again! "Island" definitely has that "'Classic 7' Moody Blues" feel to it. :)
Just like the 1997 CD remaster of "Seventh Sojourn," this Deluxe Edition also featured a topnotch remastering job! I would recommend this release to any Moody Blues fan or collector. Thanks for reading! God Bless... :)
CD vs. SACD...some people just don't get it..........2007-04-26
The focus of this review is sound quality only; as such, it is restricted to the SACD version/disc on this two-disc package. The only reason to pay the cost of these reissues (I suspect most true fans have already bought the five albums released last year) is the high resolution available via the SACD format. If we take for granted that you have the necessary hardware to properly decode/playback this format, then these reissues are well worth the extra cost, as they reveal greater dynamic range, increased resolution and 'air', and a far deeper and wider soundstage (even through two channels). By the way, these are NOT 5.1, but 4.1 (they were sourced from the quad mixes, remember?). Some of the very minor audio drawbacks that plagued the DVD-A 'Perceptions' box-set by the Doors (see my review there for more details) are also present here, but overall, this SACD offers sound quality that comes about as close to the warmth of fine analog as the digital format currently allows. Remember, these recordings (these comments can be extended to include the SACD version of 'Every Good Boy Deserves Favor') are 35+ years old. By the way, the only "compression" I noticed was when I wore my headphones too tight, so I'm at a loss to explain the observation expressed elsewhere; perhaps Home-Theatre-In-A-Box strikes again, who knows?
INTENSE re-mastering..........2007-04-24
This review is based on the CD portion of the disc only.
If you are hoping these "deluxe editions" will sound even better than the re-mastered discs of `97 you will be disappointed. The old re-masters sound much more pleasant to the ears than these "deluxe" discs. Doing a side by side comparison, using top of the line monitors, these "deluxe" versions don't come close to the last round of re-masters which breath much better. The "deluxe" versions have been once again aggressively compressed, which means, by the time you've reached the middle to later stages of the album (depending on the album), you may experience some ear fatigue. The sound is unrelenting and it changes the original dynamics. I felt like I was hearing a whole new mix, which is a sign of over compressing. For example, the song "For My Lady" seems to have lost all it's relaxed nature and Ray's vocals were lost in the mix! Has the music industry gone compression mad? Or, were the Moodies worried that their back catalogue (the holy seven) lacked musical muscle, and super charging it with heavy compression is the answer? Or both?
The bonus tracks were very interesting to hear, but not really important unless you are a Moodies fanatic. The booklet's in this "deluxe" series are all a little redundant, you'll be reading a lot of the same text from booklet to booklet. The picture selection was a bit lacking in imagination. It appears that the people responsible for the booklets went with one photo session. Is that lazy or boring?
In conclusion, after hearing all of these "SACD Deluxe Editions," I'll be keeping my old (1997) re-masters, after all, they still sound great. Perhaps the other two layers of these "deluxe editions" will be rewarding, but if you still haven't bought any of these yet, you are way ahead of the game.

By Far SDS's best effort!.......2007-07-07
I had heard SDS's first two releases and thought that they were good, heart pumping rock. But I was not ready for this CD. With new producer, Paul Ebersold (Third Day- Wire) onboard, SDS has released a far superior effort to their first two CDs (and I liked those). The sound is bigger, the drums hit louder, and the guitars are fuller. The overall sound of the CD is simalar to Nickleback, but heavier. My one complaint is that most of the really good songs are at the beginning, but the whole CD is very listenable. Having seen these guys live, I am really impressed with their ministry. They are one of the few bands that don't put out that "Rock star" vibe. All in all, a very good hard rock CD. It stands up well against their mainstream counterparts.
Excellent CD!.......2007-06-22
Seventh Day Slumber's new album "Finally Awake" is Christ worthy rock that I believe any Christian rock fan is going to love.
1. Awake 10/10 - This is a very heavy and solid rock track. The vocals are spot on, and the guitar will totally rock you. The lyrics have to do with peer pressure, and trying to look like someone else instead of yourself. Wonderful song.
2. Last Regret 7/10 - A metal fashioned lament, woeing the singers lost years without Christ. A good strong melody, and wonderful guitar save this song, as the vocals resort to screaming more than once.
3. Missing Pages 10/10 - Wonderful tune. This is the CD's main radio hit, and it shines. Basically this song speaks out to lost people who have built walls around their hearts and souls.
4. My Only Hope 10/10 - Great rock song about Christ being our only hope. One of the heavier songs on the album.
5. Always 9/10 - Great acoustic drven ballad.
6. Breaking Away 10/10 - My favorite ballad on the album. The change from verse to chorus is amazingly unique, and the lyrics are so encouraging. "Breaking away, from everything that's hopeless, the world ahead looks wonderful today."
7. Burning Bridges 10/10 - The next great fist pumper on the album. I like to listen to this one cranked up.
8. Undone 10/10 - A wonderful ballad that finds the band crying out to Jesus, asking for restoration.
9. On My Way Home 9/10 - Yet another great ballad.
10. Broken Buildings 10/10 - Heavy rock set to a punk beat and a major key, I love it.
11. Every Saturday 8/10 - Great closing number, not as great as "Breaking Away" or "Undone" but a good slow song to close the album.
Overall this is a great CD that I hope you get the chance to enjoy.
AWESOME REAL CHRISTIAN PERFORMERS.......2007-05-02
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform at a local church and they were amazing!! They, especially Joseph, the lead singer, have such an amazing passion for the Lord and they make that known in every song, but without making it too corny. Awesome rock songs that when you sing along with them you really are praising the Lord. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, Christian or not.
Good Music With Very Good Lyrics.......2007-04-11
'Finally Awake' is a very good rock album.
Many of the songs contain powerful guitars and drums with a rather hard rock sound. Some of the tracks are a bit mellower. All contain positive lyrics with a Christian theme.
Seventh Day Slumber is never one to shy away from referring to God or Jesus in their music. This collection is no exception to that.
Some of the songs that are very good include the following: Awake, Breaking Away, Undone, On My Way Home, and Every Saturday. I particularly like 'Missing Pages'.
As an aside, if you have not seen this group in concert, they would be a great one to catch. In addition to their very enjoyable music, the lead singer, Joseph Rojas, has a very powerful testimony that will make an impression on anyone.
I recommend this album. It is a good one for anyone. Harder rock fans will particularly like it.

Sousa By the Royal Marines.......2007-03-31
This is a great CD re-issue of the Band of the Royal Marines School of Music under Graham Hoskins. This band did a three LP series on Sousa marches some years ago that was better than most on this very well covered topic. Sousa march recordings will always come and go, but some like this stand out more than others. For one, there is nothing like the panache of a Royal Marines band. Their sound is a time honored development that gets passed from one generation to the next. Even as the number of RM bands continues to change and downsize, there are now about four bands left in the service, their sound quality continues to be superb.
When these recordings were made RM bands were still at their height in the British service and their quality was amazing. Most bands numbered over 60 in this period, and that is why many Americans may be surprsed at the volume of music produced here. This is not one of your small, though excellent regimental bands! Americans tend to think that British military band instrumentation is on the thin side. Not so here! Of course Sousa always sounds best with either the Allentown band or the US Marine band.
This CD is evidence of how popular Sousa has always been in the UK, and with RM bands in particular. The selection here on two CDs covers most of the standard Sousa fair, with a few different selections here and there. Unfortunatley there are none of Sousa's fine transcriptions for classical music, or selections from his operettas. This music is always wonderful to have in combination with the marches as it shows how much variety he was capable of in his compositions. For that kind of concert the reader is referred to the very fine collection of Sousa music being done under the Naxos label by the Band of the Royal Artillery.
Here you will find a solid collection of Sousa's great marches. Roughly a third of those 136 compositions are contained here. The Royal Marines give a sharpe and clear sound to these works which should certainly inspire. You will also get a very nice idea how RM bands sounded back in the 1980s. Graham Hoskins was a fine director of music, typical of the inhouse genius of the Royal Marines Band Service at that time. He took this band on a USA tour in 1985 with the Arygll & Sutherland Highlanders. Devotees of Sousa should enjoy these spirited versions of the march king's music as performed across the pond.
Still Among the Best.......2006-06-01
I bought two audio casettes with these marches back in the 1980's and wore them out. These performances are hard to beat for virtuosity, enthusiasm, and sparkle. The sound quality is outstanding. And there are some marches that are rarely, if at all, available.
How Sousa Should Sound.......2006-03-07
Great value 2 cd disc set cut in the early 1980's & remastered the sound of the Royal Marines Band is nothing short of terrific. Judging by the sound would not be surprised for this to be a combined double RM band. These 1st chair players give Sousa's great marches that extra kick that takes the "March Kings" music to that higher level. By the center quick march!!!!

Truly Inspiring.......2007-04-05
Funny thing is when i first heard this album, i wasnt a fan of it. so i put it aside and listened to other things for awhile. years later, i got bored one day so i find this cd and i pop it in the player....best CD ever. end of story. dont know what happened. maybe my musical tastes matured, or maybe all it took was a second chance, but this is by far my favorite maiden album along side NOTB. Every song on this album is a classic. this album is a best of maiden cd on its own. it might be a little more progressive than their earlier works, but hey Iron Maiden has always been ambitious and i think it surely pays off here. I might recommend other albums like NOTB or BNW for fans new to maiden to start off with though.
Maiden's Most Ambitious Album!!!!!!Their Best!!!!!!And The Greatest Metal Album Of All-Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-07
Let me just say that no other Maiden album captures the spirit of the band as much as this one.Every album from The Number of The Beast to this one showed you the evolution of this band. All of them were stepping stones to this.Listen to those albums in succession then listen to this one and you will see what I mean. The idea of this album was to perfect the dualling guitars in a melodic way and if you ask me they did just that.Sure they have heavier albums but this one is the one that shows you what this band is all about. Those people out there saying that this album is pop-metal misinterpret this bad.The lyrics on this were their best from the 1980's.The album revolves around a child with clairvoyant powers but doesn't know whether to use them for good or evil. How about Bruce's performance on this one,it is by far his best vocal performance,he does some very angry howls but still has a very operatic approach on vocals just listen to those howls at the end of every verse on the album's epic Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.He has never sounded this good in his career. This album is more moody than any of their releases in the 1980's.The album opens up with Moonchild a song about how Lucifer was plaguing the Seventh Son's mother, this one is old shool metal at its best,a great way to open the album.Infinite Dreams is about the idea of reincarnation and dreams that plague the Seventh Son's father, this one takes time to get used to but when you are used to it,it will become one of your favorite Maiden songs, this song has a very good instrumental section and some mesmerizing dualling guitars from the two gods themselves Dave and Adrian. Can I Play with Madness has Bruce at his finest with those soulful howls, this one is about the Seventh Son's father getting angry with a Prophet who will not tell him about his future. The Evil That Men Do is also Bruce at his finest, this song is probably about the Seventh Son's conception, this one can get a bit redundant but still a good song. Now we get to one of the best metal songs of all-time Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.This is probably the best song of the album. The song is about the Seventh Son's birth and that anything he does will not change his life because it is already written and he can't do anything about it.This song has one of the best instrumental sections that the band has ever done,Dave and Adrian trading solos on this one is a thing of beauty. The final guitar licks are absolutely beautiful with some great snare drumming from Nicko and if you listen closely you can hear Steve play the bass like a madman, one of the best Maiden songs of All-Time.The Prophecy is a song about the Seventh Son warning a village of an impending disater and they do not listen to him and then let's see who is laughing now, this song has a very beautiful acoustic ending which takes you to a wonderful world that you would never want to end, a thing of beauty. The Clairvoyant is a moody rocker about how the visions of the Seventh Son are ruining his life and that he cannot take it anymore, the riffs on this one are scary in a way just listen to them and you will see what I mean, this also has one of the best choruses in the history of Heavy Metal"There is a time to live and a time to die when it's time to meet the maker,There is a time to live but isn't strange that as soon your born your dying".I mean that is some pretty deep stuff right there.Only The Good Die Young is about, well you guessed it the Seventh Son's death. This song is very underrated, behind the synth this is classic Maiden. The lyrics poke at Christianity(which to me is very, very Metal). The band ventures into the dark side on this album, that is why it is my favorite album by them.Everything about this album is right on the target. With this album you have to let your imagination run wild and then you will understand the power of it.This album is best heard altogether and at night. The Maiden sound is perfected on this landmark album.Up The Irons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAN I PLAY WITH MADNESS???????????????.......2007-02-17
A must own album from Iron Maiden All the songs are the incredible best one of bruce dickenson's best.
Still The Best Album Of All-Time!!!!!.......2007-01-28
This is Iron Maiden's seventh studio album, and in my opinion the best heavy metal album of all-time.This album takes you into a magical world in which the Seventh Son tries to warn a village about a holocaust about to occur but they don't believe him.Later the village experiences the holocaust that the Seventh Son warned them about and they blame it all on him.You can hear this story in songs like The Prophecy(a very underrated song). This album includes classics like Infinite Dreams,The Evil That Men Do,Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son(song about the Seventh Son's birth),The Clairvoyant,is a song beyond words, you can't even describe it,just flatout wonderful!!!!.Don't forget songs like Moonchild(another very magical and very good song),Can I Play with Madness is a song that is just fun. This is my favorite album by Iron Maiden, thus the best album in heavy metal history and of all-time.Very innovative, original, and captivating.Just a flatout beautiful album. It makes me want to cry that this is better than life itself.I would give this 1000 stars if it was on a scale like that.Up The Irons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The End of an Era.......2007-01-01
SSoaSS is probably the last really good album that Iron Maiden put out. There are a few weak cuts but, overall, the disc is solid. "Can I Play With Madness" is a Maiden classic. I hadn't listened to this for a decade; I had forgotten how good this disc is.

UnRetro Disco.......2007-05-30
This one is way more upbeat than "Cloud Nine". And as a result it's somewhat discoish but not too nostolgic. That said, this is a fine package, that in my opinion has only one negligable track. Highly recommended.
Note: The -1 star is strictly a measure of personal preferance, I prefer a more chilled vibe as is found on Cielo: Cloud Nine.
Deep House at it`s finest.......2007-04-21

everything superb. my friends are keen on the discs and were heading for ituning them. this double pack is even better than the cloud 9. it is more profiled and really gets the sun down on the beach like the picture on the cover. astonishingly european dj-sets from the heart of nyc.

Sousa On Parade.......2007-05-31
This standard collection of Sousa's marches is nicely played throughout by the US Marine Band. All the well known marches by Sousa are here. Little is new here in that regard. The CD has in its title Dances and other Music. Only "Le Reine De Le Mer" is in this category and the piece is more an overture than a dance. The "Gallent 7th March" is not normally in the top 10 constantly played Sousa marches, but it is worthy of note. Sousa composed it for the fashionable 7th Regiment New York National Guard. This unit had a good band which was well known in Sousa's day and often combined performances with the Sousa band in New York City.
Sousa was director of music for the US Marine band for 10 years, 1882-92. He left to form his own band because he knew he could make a lot more money on his own. Suffice to say that Sousa greatly transformed this band from a 2nd rate ensemble to one of the best in the USA. The US Marine Band is also the oldest musical organization in the country, dating back to 1802 when Washington DC was still a wooded Virginia back water built over sickly swamps. Today this band probably gives one of the best versions of Sousa's music. Still, the listener should consider other collections by the Royal Artillery Band available on Amazon which provides a much fuller range of Sousa's music with authentic programing.

Much has been made in press circles about Joseph Rojas and his real-life story of redemption. While there is no denying the authority he holds when he sings about how God has changed his life, it's time to focus his music. Once Upon A Shattered Life, the band's sophomore effort, is truly a breakout release and one worthy to be heard. There are many assets to this group's music including Rojas' powerful vocal presence, much akin to the likes of Mac Powell (Third Day) or Bart Millard (Mercy Me). Newcomer Ray Fryoux lays down a bed of steady beats and anchors a solid rhythm section with bassist Joshua Schwartz. Meanwhile, Jeremy Holderfield provides riveting guitar work throughout, especially on tracks like "Shattered Life" and "Chris' Letter." Smooth rockers like "I Believe" and "Brand New Man" display a simplicity and catchiness reminiscent of Jeremy Camp or Switchfoot. But while Slumber's modern rock sound may draw parallels, this band makes its own mark on tracks like "Make Believe" and "Back in Time," showcasing an offset rhythm and creative guitar work. The band can even bring it down as it does on the two softer closing numbers, "Masquerade" and "Oceans from the Rain." The release is a confident step forward for the band both creatively and (hopefully) commercially and should propel them into the upper echelons of Christian music. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2006-11-10
Seventh Day Slumber fills a space between hard-driving energetic punk and modern rock and does it with a heart for Christ. Fueled by the hurt experienced in thier young lives, Joseph Rojas, Jeremy Holderfield, and Josh Schwartz have successfully used their music to span the chasm between the hurt Satan would bind us in and the freedom found only in Christ Jesus.
Not only a great studio sound, but great in concert as well. I was fortunate enough to see them in a little dive with about 20 people in Greensboro, NC (I think it was the first concert for Ray Fryoux... Drums). I have to tell you, they were playing their hearts out for Jesus, not just for that small audience. Saw them again at Ichthus 2006 with an audience of around 5,000 ... same energy, same passion, same mission...and a few more great songs.
Highly recommended! These guys touch lives...like mine.
Energetic Christian Rock.......2006-04-18
I had never heard anything by Seventh Day Slumber until I saw them in concert when they were warming up for another group; they were pretty good.
This album combines some power rock sound with some positive, meaningful lyrics. I think that this sound would appeal to many fans of secular rock as well as Christian music fans.
There are three particularly good songs in this collection: 'Shattered Life', 'Caroline', and 'Oceans From The Rain'. Two others that are pretty good are 'I Believe' and 'Masquerade'. The others are ok, but nothing special.
If you like a heavier sound, this would be worth checking out.
Good but not Amazing.......2006-02-19
Definatly a good solid cd worht buying. But most of the songs are somewhat forgetable. Overall the First 3 track make the cd worth it. But there are better christian rock bands out there
ONE OF THE BEST CHRISTIAN ROCK BANDS OUT THERE!.......2005-12-08
I got to see Seventh Day Slumber this summer at ShoutFEST in San Antonio. I had never heard of them up till this point. We (my family) loved them. Right in the middle of the concert Joseph Rios stopped and did an alter call as he felt God was leading him to do this right then and there, it was one of the most moving moments in the concert with all the bands, Zoe Girl, Kutless. I have both of their CD's and they are by far my favorite Christian Rock Band and their Lyrics just minister to my heart!! I recommend them to anyone and everyone!!
Tricia from San Antonio
Their voices will be heard thanks to this hit CD........2005-12-05
Spiritual rock! Great guitar work, lyrics, and messages. Every song is a potential chart topper. "I Believe" will likely be popular in a lot of modern church youth groups. I expect to be hearing it Sunday mornings very soon.

Very metal. Very Good. Very Avenged. .......2007-04-28
If this is your first time buying an Avenged Sevenfold CD, u've been missing out. I've been their fan for many years. This is Avenged Sevenfolds first album and is BY FAR the metalist album they have. With Matt Shadows (vocals) as the screamer and the melodical voice, Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar-Back-up Vocals) with his amazing burnout riffs and EL FANTASTICO solos, Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar, Back UP Vocals) with his mix in riffs wit Syn, The Reverend (Drummer) with his INSANE drumming, and Johnny Christ (Bassist) with his amazing bass power, THIS BAND HAS THE PERFECT PEOPLE. But I have to say, This album doesn't have half as many solos as City Of Evil. Soon after this album had released, Matt Shadows had ripped a blood vessel in his throat, this is because he used his screaming power in only Sounding The Seventh Trumpet. You will see that the rate that he screams in this album he doesn't do in any other. But what is a singer witout his crew? Thats where Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ, and The Rev come in to deliver what they call is Sevenfoldism. So if u would like see less metal of Avenged Sevenfold, check out City Of Evil and Waking The Fallen. Those are both fantastic albums also, Sounding The Seventh Trumpet is juss more intense. I don't see one track on this album that you should skip over.
Song Reviews as Follows:
1. To End The Rapture 10/10. Now this is how you start an album. This is a masterpiece. This is where Synyster Gates had his debut. The whole song is an intro, but, my god, its a great one.
2. Turn The Other Way 10/10. This is another masterpiece. The debut of their screamo songs start right HERE. Shadows fierce growling sure takes care of your anger. Best part of this song is the outro. Great Guitar riff with great singing.
3. Darkness Surrounding 11/10. I'm saying this is the best track on the album. Shadows reaches a whole new level of screaming and melodical singing. He definitly knows how to mix those 2 together. Even The Bassist gets a miniature solo. Great Song great ending.
4. The Art Of Subconscious Illusion 8/10. This isn't exactly their best shot at this. The is not one of the songs that they needed to do. M. Shadows voice is good though. I juss don't like the fixture of this song.
5. We Come Out at Night 9/10. This song is good. Chorus is melodical and great. But the verses with the screaming are great also. Great guitar work involved. The screaming here sounds dif. then their previous songs.
6. Lips Of Deceit 10/10. DUDE. THIS HAS THE BEST INTRO IN THE ALBUM. great intro then great verses. This song is great. One of my all time favorties.
7. Warmness On The Soul 11/10. What does every great band need? A ballad. And dang does Avenged make this a great one. This song is a masterpiece. Great piano work and impressive solo by Zacky Vengeace. 2nd best song in album.
8. An Epic Of Time Wasted 10/10. This songs good also. cool intro and cool verses. The Ending is pretty nice to. M. Shadows delivering his melodical voice after all the screaming.
9. Breaking Their Hold 7/10. LOL wat is this. Not their best they do. The worst track on the album.
10. Forgotten Faces 10/10. This song is impressive. Love the verses. and the chorus is great also. Its kind of like An Epic Of Time Wasted Part 2.
11. Thick And Thin 10/10. THis song is grand also. I love it when Shadows mixes his screamo with melodical magicness. Another one of my favs.
12. Streets 9/10. Whew. Besides the ballad this is their next song where there is no screamo. This one is kind of punky but its one of a kind also. I love how shadows juss keeps going in the verse witout stopping. The pre-verse after the chorus is great also.
13. Shattered By Broken Dreams 10/10. Wow two ballads in one disc right? WRONG. This starts out as a ballad but then tranforms into screamo and madness. great way to end the album.
So overall this is a mad cd. Avenged Sevenfold sure knows how to make a debut. This is a great cd. If u want some other Sevenfoldism madness check out Waking The Fallen and City Of Evil.
Someone please cut off their fingers and toungues!.......2006-08-04
Wholely dissappointing and not unexpected from a bunch of wanker/poseurs. I hope they learned their lesson: That a bunch of tattoos, angry poses and their daddy's money are no substitute for talent...
The beginning of A7X.......2006-06-30
This disc is incredible. M. Shadows has such a vocal range such as metal has never seen. Warmness on the Soul is an awesome ballad that falls in the middle of the disc. Other notable tracks include Turn the Other Way, The Art of Subconcious Illusion, and We Come Out at Night. Look forward to future releases from this band.
A work of art.......2006-05-22
This album is original work. People who only get the "City of Evil" album are truly missing out. A7X made this album at 17. a very big accomplishment for such a young age. I think that this album should be called one of the classics. You can tell that their influences played a big part, because it is obvious, by their sound, the compilation of various artists that this album comes from. BTW, they are the mystery guest at Ozzfest, go to Ozzfest and see them on the main stage!!!
A7X Kicks Ass.......2006-05-17
Like others have said this cd is much more harder than City of Evil, and a little harder than Waking the Fallen, but still is a good cd. If your a new fan of A7X, I would suggest getting City Of Evil first, but don,t overlook this cd.
