Not My Style.......2007-05-11
This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!
Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28
For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.
Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16
This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.
Western Music.......2005-07-29
I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."
A great follow-up.......2003-08-29
This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

Product Description
A quirky 10 track cd of funky music from one of Ireland's most creative fiddlers, featuring new multilayered compositions as well as traditional tunes transformed with cool crosstunings and soundscapes.
Described in the Irish Times as inhabiting the eccentric fringe of Irish music, the elliptical Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh orbits a different planet to most Irish fiddlers.
This short CD consists of 10 quirky tracks: six brand spanking new pieces from his own imagination, alongside four novel interpretations of traditional tunes.
Some tracks, like 'Fead an Iolar' and 'Dún do Shúil', are straightforward - they feature Caoimhín playing solo hardanger fiddle, using weird and wonderful crosstunings to create a new ambience for these old tunes. 'The Old Waltz' and 'Wild Goose Chase' find him creating a new approach to presenting traditional tune forms, with a sense of soundscape and beauty. Other tracks, like 'its all about the rhythm of her toes' and 'the mole man of hackney', are multilayered creations of madness, a quirky and fun stereo abstraction.
Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh is regarded as one of the most exciting and creative musicians in traditional music. His album 'Kitty Lie Over' with uilleann piper Mick O'Brien was named #1 Traditional Album of 2003 by Earle Hitchner in the Irish Echo. He has recorded, performed and collaborated with the likes of Iarla Ó Lionáird, The Waterboys, Liam Ó Maonlaí and Breanndán Begley. He performs happily in many combinations all over the planet.

Customer Reviews:
The good side of Adult Alternative.......2004-03-16
Wow, this is a change of pace. Anyone already familiar with Mark Seymour from Hunters & Collectors may be surprised by this. It is even a departure from his first solo disc, which was excellent, though really just continued on from the final H+C album. So, how is it a change?
Well, I think the best way I can describe this album is to say it sounds like Mark Seymour singing Crowded House songs. By that I mean that it has a definite 'pop' element to it. And the other surprise is that it is ON PAR with Crowded House. The reviewer who said there are no hooks or catchy songs is way -WAY- off the mark (no pun intended). Although, I admit I felt a little like that upon first play, this is a disc that reveals itself over repeated listens.
I can tell you, off the top of my head, I could hum "Don't You Know Me", "On My Way Home", and "Sad Songs." They stick and are as finely crafted adult-oriented pop/rock songs as I've heard. This should be on the radio next to David Gray, John Mayer, Josh Groban, etc. (actually, in my opinion, INSTEAD of said artists)
- one note: the Amazon tracklisting is totally incorrect
Sort of stunning.......2002-01-22
One Eyed Man is a real shocker. A shocking disappointment, that is, for anyone who is a Hunters & Collectors/Mark Seymour fan. Considering how H&C were incapable of making anything but innovative, emotive music for two decades, it's hard to believe that it took Seymour four years to put out this gutless album. And Seymour already had a gorgeous solo album, King Without A Clue, under his belt. Some critics have described One Eyed Man as Seymour doing Crowded House. That's about dead on. There's a lot of sound, a lot of notes, but no hooks and no real songs. You wonder how anyone had the patience to labour over the flawless production of these flabby tunes. Seymour once seemed to have a bottomless well of lyrical wordplay and melody. It's a mystery how quickly it all dried up. Hopefully he was just distracted, trying to make a tribute album to his brother (Nick, ex-Crowded House) or something.
Universal Appeal From Down Under.......2001-03-28
It's been three years since Mark Seymour (ex lead singer and songwriter from Hunters and Collectors) put out his impressive but hard to obtain first solo album "King Without a Clue". The new "one eyed man" is a more-or-less straight ahead rock and roll album, accessible in its pleasing rhythms and universal themes, but sophisticated enough, like all the best things in life, to improve with each listening experience.
Seymour has always been a brilliant songwriter, apparently as pleased with the more mellow ballads and love songs as he was with the more driven H&C songs. The new album is a mix of both with quick paced songs like "blue morning", "long way down" and my personal favourite "supagirl", and ballads as good as they get with "the ballad of the one eyed man".
The song lyrics seem to allow us a connection with Seymour's interest in human experience, both historical and what appears to be very personal, and the music has been beatifully matched to create the appropriate feel. For instance, in the song "ready to go", the tin flute and jangling acoustic guitar create a kind of wild western feel, where the lyrics and the raw vocals echo a desolate anguish "Some chose to believe, some chose to fight. Some vanished in the dead of the night. But I'm not ready to go..."
Much more could be said about each song, but the best thing to do is to buy it now! There's not a weak part to this album. The musicians are clearly excellent and recording & production quality is good.
One pleasant surprise, particularly for H&C fans, is a hidden track at the end of the album. Following the appropriate 'last' track "on my way", but hidden within the track, is a slightly quirky version of the Hunters & Collectors classic "Throw Your Arms Around Me"! Someone told me that "Throw Your Arms Around Me" is probably the most played song in Australia? It's really a terrific version and makes a fabulous final chapter to "one eyed man".
As stated above, the best thing about "one eyed man" is that it continues to improve after many listenings. Be prepared to have it become one of your long-term favourites!
