Candi Staton is a terrific singer and her Fame-recordings are really great. It's a pity that the sound on this cd is zo horrible. I don't think they used the mastertapes. When will there be a high-quality cd (or cd-box)with all her Fame-recordings? It's a real shame that after thirty years there is still no cd that does justice to these beautiful recordings.
Anyhow, this cd is the only one available at the moment... It's better than nothing.
Sumptious Collection, Not so great Sound.......2003-06-13
The tracks here are from Candi's
stint with the Fame label and the
gems are a plenty including the
inspired cover of "Stand by Your Man",
"Too Hurt To Cry", gritty "Do Your
Duty" and hit "I'd Rather Be a Young
Man's Sweetheart... However there are
absentees like "Heart On A String" and
Grammy nominated "In The Ghetto". It
is clear Candi nor Fame had no involvement
in this compilation as the sound is rather
poor and liner notes scant. However, these
are rare gems (many appearing for the first
time on cd).
