Playing off of Elvis Presley's 1959 album 50 Million Elvis Presley Fans Can't Be Wrong, right down to the gold-lame suits the quartet dons on the cover, stalwart rockers Bon Jovi make a strong case that they're one of the true populist bands of their era with a box set that serves up dozens of previously unheard and seldom heard offerings. Designed as a heaping 20-year anniversary feast for insatiable fans, the four-disc/bonus DVD collection is surprisingly vital and consistent, considering that just about everything included was initially either rejected or related to B-sides and soundtracks. The high quality of these castoffs is attributable to the band's habit of preparing dozens of tracks for each album and cutting loose strong compositions that didn't fit with the theme of the completed product. Thus, some stylistic stretches were left in the vaults (check out the Southside Johnny-style r&b of "Love Ain't Nothing But a Four Letter Word"). Bon Jovi fans will find be delighted by this collection, and even skeptics may find themselves reconsidering these Jersey survivors. --Steven Stolder

2 out of 5 stars Yes, they can be. They are........2007-01-21

For fans, I suppose this would be a rather big delight; for non-fans, it's nothing that will turn you on to the band from Jersey. They had some okay, cheesy hits in the '80s - but listening to some of their modern songs from this collection proves how completely out of touch they are nowadays.

5 out of 5 stars For any Jovi fan..........2007-01-04

How can you not buy this box set? Enough said.

4 out of 5 stars Rasta-punkian?.......2007-06-27

I thought that their first album would be pure punk and was slightly suprised to hear reggae music interjected between groups of songs. It gives the album a nice contrast but I'm not a big fan of reggae. I get the fact that both types of music have anti-authoritarian ideals, but it may be awhile before I decide to buy any more of their albums. Different Class Harmonica

5 out of 5 stars PMA Mofo's.......2007-04-19

This is the real stuff right here. The Godfathers of hardcore. It was the craziest and fastest album of its time. The songs still influence till this day. They invented the breakdown, listen to Right Brigade... I want to show that to every kung-fu dancing emo jerk to teach them what real hardcore is. Banned in D.C. has the best intro to any song ever... nuff said. Filled with energy and positivity, this is a must have in any collection.

5 out of 5 stars great stuff.......2007-02-05

So i got this cd on friday having only heard the song soul craft and at first i was a little dissapointed because it was nothing like i expected, but i listened to it a few more times and i love it if youre into any punk or hardcore this is a must have

5 out of 5 stars i still have a tape deck in my car.......2006-12-10

and this goes in whenever the cd player runs out of batteries. who knows what punk really is and i'm not looking for an arguement about the subject but the people who say they like "punk" and listen to avril lavinge (spelling?) should have a copy of this record thrown at them from a moving car. this record, i think is their very best, the fastest record i've ever heard, even bad brains themselves couldn't keep the pace. rock for light has a lot of the same songs but i just feel like they're weak in comparison, maybe they were on better speed for this one, who knows...anyway, it's so much more raw and the tones of the guitars, particularly on the solos, have a marvelous presence. just one of the best records ever in any genre, it can be apreciated on the basis of sheer energy alone.

4 out of 5 stars that's right--four stars........2006-08-25

Bad Brains' early recordings found themselves in so many different releases that defining anything as their "first" album is pretty dicey. The Brains' apparent "first" demos were released on CD in the late 90's in the album "Black Dots;" this album itself had been previously released in the late 80's as "Attitude: The ROIR Sessions" before getting the special edition treatment after an endorsement by the Beastie Boys.

While this isn't their best album in terms of performance and songwriting, it is certainly their most accessible. Earl Hudson's drums lead the attack, directing Darryl Jenifer's bass and Dr. Know's guitar like a drill sergeant preparing troops for war. Dr. Know, easily the most gifted guitarist in the history of punk, drops crazy power-chord rhythms and frenzied, acrobatic solos, while Jenifer reinvents rock bass with his jazz-funk runs and tight grooves. Much is made of frontman H.R.'s pioneering performance on this album; while his incredible range does sound remarkable on this album (particularly within the context of what was coming out of the D.C. punk scene at the time), the cheap effects somewhat undermine its impact.

What keeps this album from being a five-star rockfest, at least for me, is the campy production value (Black Dots, recorded in the varying rooms of some guy's house, is mixed better than this album). Most of these songs were re-recorded for the vastly superior Rock For Light album.

Album Description

“chasing the ghost” is haunting and captivating, with an essence that cuts to the core. Its hypnotic lull of orchestrated sounds and heartfelt emotion reveal a journey reaching deep into the psyche that will grab you and not let go. Recognized as innovators in sound, Collide prefer to cut their own path. This album, although decidedly different from their previous CDs, once again treads on new ground, combining new elements into a powerful whole.

Rarely in the darkwave genre do I find anybody that I consider to be interresting, however this time around, I'm satisfied. Collide is a collition of trip hop and goth that sounds like a terrible idea, but actually works out quite well. Collide will trip you out big time!

3 out of 5 stars OKAY BUT NOT STELLAR.......2007-05-18

I like songs 1, 2, 7 and the band's dance remake of White Rabbit. kaRin's voice is hauntingly similar to Kate Bush; although real heavy on the Vo-Coder. Some of the songs, instead of being entrancing tend to drone on and none of the tracks pop out as a really strong single. However, I am not sorry I bought the cd and would recommend it to others because it's easy on the ears (very melodic).

5 out of 5 stars Music for the Witching Hour.......2007-04-13

This album is so darkly ethereal and richly textured that I yearn for the poet's ability to paint a vivid word picture of its seductive sound. Sadly, I am not the world reknown poet any review of this album demands, but simply your average music lover, and after musing over it so long my brain cramps, the best I can come up with is something like. "Hey, what do you get when you cross a goth chick with a computer geek?" So you will just have to use your imagination.

Imagine the perfect song for a lovesick vampire. Imagine what moonlight peeking through gathering stormclouds sounds like. Imagine a Hammer horror movie with a Moby soundtrack. Imagine the distant music that haunts the dreams of some half-mad hero from an H.P. Lovecraft story. Imagine the perfect CD for your date with that fair-skinned lovely with the black lipstick and fingernail polish.
Imagine closing your eyes and feeling the sound sweep over you, setting you hair on end and your soul on fire.

Then stop imagining it and order this CD. Wait for a dark and stormy night and slip it in. Set your imagination free on midnite wings...

5 out of 5 stars Chasing the Ghost : one of Collide's best!.......2007-04-13

I highly recommend this Cd to anyone who loves to be swept away in imagination. I find all of Collide's music highly moving and inspiring, and Chasing the Ghost is one that truly grabs you and carries you away. I can't say enough about this cd really.. but it's definitely one of my all-time favorite cds. Dark and alluring.... perfection!

5 out of 5 stars Mesmerizingly Hard!!.......2007-04-12

This album is definitely a haunting series of songs!! The bands ability to add that certain haunting nature to Karin's voice is, in my experience, rare!! Defintely a must have for your hard core gothic/industrial/electronica collection!!!

Album Description

This is the debut album from the sultry and ever swinging Ms. Wilde and her Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra, a sweet blend of 16 world-class musicians who specialize in the raw, earthy big-band rythmn & blues of the 40's and 50's. This is music from the special time before strict boundaries were drawn between jazz, blues and r&b. Combining the drive of swing and jump-blues, the hot soloing of jazz, and the sublime vocal stylings of Lily Wilde, the Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra appeals to dancers, listeners and all fans of timeless music played by great musicians.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Take me back to the forties!.......2006-12-29

Lily Wilde and the orchestra have obviously been listening to a lot of Buddy and Ella Johnson over the years. They have their horn driven r&b sound down! Lily even sounds a bit like Ella on occasion. The band stomps and swings while Lily's voice floats over the swinging rhythm section. Songs like "Mr. 5x5", the old tune about Jimmy Rushing and "work baby" by Louis Jordan sound like they were written by her. Great musicianship, great arrangements. Great record. Wish I could see them live!

5 out of 5 stars Rockin' Horns!.......2006-12-14

From the first note of the first track, you know that you are in for a swingin' ride. The charts are great, and the musicians are top-drawer. If you're a horn player....you're going to be jealous that you weren't selected for this recording session!

5 out of 5 stars Lovely lady, lovely music!.......2005-08-10

If you like swing, this here's the thing. Fans of Lavay Smith will be pleased with what they hear. I have been a fan of Lily's for a while before I purchased her CD. I haven't been sorry since. Wonderful music with a lot of energy. I just wish she would play the east coast more often.

5 out of 5 stars Lily Wilde swings!!!.......2005-05-06

This is a wonderful cd. Great arrangements played by a fine orchestra, and of course, the vocals by Ms. Wilde are as good as it gets. The only complaint I have is that this is her only recorded work that I can find. It's that good.

5 out of 5 stars Great jazz and blues big band swing!.......2004-02-13

This CD is one of those sneaky surprises waiting out there in the swing music scene. Striking out from Portland, OR, Lily Wilde has produced a phenomenal album of big band swing, perfect for listening and dancing. Backed by the full Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra, Lily Wilde lays out a series of tracks that capture the swingin' feeling of the big bands of the 1950s, like Billy May and Count Basie. It's jazzy swing with the soul of the blues...in other words, the genuine swing article, not some rock band that just stuck on a few horns and called themselves a swing band. Lily Wilde knows her musical history and knows what she likes, and that means you're guaranteed to like it as well.

Lily Wilde's voice is supremely soulful and powerful, reminding a bit of Ella Fitzgerald and Helen Humes (one of Count Basie's best female singers), but separate enough to have her own identity. She does a great job with such swingin' classics as "Mister Five by Five," "Work Baby Work," and "Oh Babe!" (my personal favorite cut from the album). These all swing smooth and very danceable, and should get a whole room of picky swing dancers jivin' and wailin'. I also enjoy the humorous "Rip Van Winkle." Lily slows it down and gets soulful and torchy on "Since I Fell for You," (the best slow number on the album) and a beautiful version of "Stormy Weather."

The band itself swings hard in a very Basie-like style, sounding like the legendary "Atomic" band from the 50s. This is most noticeable on a stand-out, mid-tempo instrumental, "Go Ahead and Rock." It's an infectious piece.

The only flaw in the album is the one bad track among the bunch, and ironically, it's the title track, "Insect Ball." The band swings fine, but the electronic manipulation of the voices and the silly lyrics cripple it. Unfortunate -- but how often do you come across an album where every track is great?

This still counts as a five-star swing recording for me. Swing fans who haven't heard Lily Wilde need to get their hands on this gem while it is still around. It's guaranteed to get you dancing again after you've worn out all your "Swing Session" albums.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Simply the most amazing chillout music ever.......2007-07-03

Zoe Keating produces a very emotional and chilled experience from her work One Cell X 16. The album starts off with one of her best tracks, which has some more uptempo and blood-pulsing chello work. From there, the album tends towards more subdued tones with deep bassy tones and repeats. Her work is simply amazing for escaping into another realm. If you are a fan of downtempo music or just chello music in general, then I guarantee you will love this album. Not for the faint of heart!

Although, my roommate went to see her in concert, and was much less impressed with the performance than with the cd. It could have just been the venue, but perhaps it is just hard for her to match the brilliance she attained on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars even the baby loves it.......2007-05-07

my brother first introduced me to zoe keating... i was surprised to hear such beautifully arranged contemporary classical music. i'm not one for classical, or general instrumental music, but my three moth old adores this cd. i think my favorite track, and hers, is fern. it's haunting, and absolutely addictive. in the car, that is the song that puts her to sleep. if you're looking for brain music, that isn't the same old thing, zoe keating is the way to go.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent change of pace.......2007-02-21

After hearing some short clips of this album, I ordered it, and have not regretted it. Very unique listening experience - turn up your bass, and enjoy some rich, satisfying music - as pure as a cello can be. I initially thought the layering concept of one instrument would be quite limiting, and perhaps monotonous, but instead is quite complex. For a very satisfying change of pace, try this one out. You'll not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2007-02-08

Excellent, fascinating, hip, complex, Zoe Keating is a cellist whose playing level is worthy of any symphony orchestra who instead has gone off into uncharted waters using the miracle of modern technology to produce pieces that sound like a one woman symphony by layering (times 16) riffs of her beautiful playing. I saw her in concert recently and she is a beautiful person inside and out who live on stage can produce all the pieces on this amazing CD. Well worth checking out if you love cello playing or techno magic.

5 out of 5 stars Haunting and engaging - a unique combination.......2007-01-28

Like the first reviewer, I bought the CD after seeing her play live (opening for the California Guitar Trio). (I've bought it again since to give as a gift.) I think if I hadn't seen her "do" her stuff live I would have believed it to be studio trickery. She begins with a few short passages that she records to individual tracks on a sampler on the floor which she controls with her foot. Rhythms, bass lines, basic structures. She starts them looping, and she then plays melodies and harmonies that soar and dance over the recorded layers. The repeated looping passages brought to mind Frippertronics and even Philip Glass, but the cello has a warmth that makes the sound more intimate, more human-scale somehow. She played some pieces in the show that are not on this disc, so I hope there are more recordings to come. If she ever comes to play at a town near you, go see her!

5 out of 5 stars this is how I got past the classics as a child .......2007-04-07

This album(and i mean vinyl...when I bought it in 1984 )was a COMPLETE breakthrough as far as the operettas and arias put in front of me .....this album tells the story of each and evey aria .....as an earley teen...this body of work enabled me as an adult to be able to attend and understand AND have a better overall appreciation of Puccini's work....he is my fave....still love them all...I completly recommend this C.D. ....pass it on to anybody who thinks that they don't like the opera!!!

5 out of 5 stars Oh the memories..........2007-01-19

What a great album. I've listened to that album in vinyl format all my childhood (cool parents) and now it's on CD. I've been looking for that album for a long time, I'm glad I found it on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Madam Butterfly.......2005-09-04

This is the only CD I've ever purchased for a single song. And I consider myself well compensated.

The lead track, Madam Butterfly (Un Bel Di Vedremo), is the kind of tune I can listen to anywhere, anytime. McLaren sets Puccini's operatic arrangement against the stumbling introduction of a self-admitted bounder and the faithful boastings of his concubine, a woman with whom he will never settle. This is the only pop song that absolutely breaks by heart. "Softly kissing my eyelashes. Call me fool, call me stupid. My white honky's here to stay." She is twice his equal. And it comes from the producer of the Sex Pistols. Experience perhaps.

Worth it.

5 out of 5 stars do it! get this album..........2005-08-04

i first heard this album in about 1994 and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. i am a lover of italian opera and McLaren's interpretion mixing the purity of the opera with some complimentary hip-hop was GENIUS. he didn't cross any lines or anything. my particular favourites are from "madame butterfly"...my favourite opera of forever! i highly reccommend that you purchase this classic.

5 out of 5 stars When opera meets R & B and Hip Hop, Life is Grand.......2005-06-08

I have had season tickets to the LA Opera for years. At the same time, I enjoy today's music, although I have been skeptical of hip hop. This CD reduces opera to the bare essentials without violating the music or the integrity of the art form. Counterpoint between sung arias and spoken word is clever and exciting. Voices are excellent. The words succinctly spell out the opera's story line while the melodies linger in the background. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Album Description

The definitive Fall anthology, this 39 track double cd spans the illustrious career of one of rock music's most important bands. Of all the late-'70s punk and post-punk bands, none are longer-lived or more prolific than The Fall. Throughout their career, the band underwent a myriad of lineup changes, but at the center of it all is vocalist Mark E. Smith. With his caustic, acerbic wit and inimitable vocal style, Smith has become a cult legend in alternative rock circles. This double cd set , at the bargain list price of $16.98, is the ultimate collection for both newcomer and veteran fan alike. "Led by acid-tounged poet Mark E. Smith, whose caustic lyrics and accented, amelodic vocals provide the Fall's primary features, the Fall has created a huge body of unique, adventurous and challenging rock. From its experimental beginnings, the Fall has continued to explore and grow stronger...the Fall has made a crucial difference in modern music." Trouser Press

3 out of 5 stars It has the two hits........2007-04-28

Cruisers Creek and Hit The North are on this compilation. That's about all for The Fall.

4 out of 5 stars An Introduction...of Sorts.......2007-04-10

When I began to delve into the music of The Fall, I was quite impressed with the band's diversity in instrumentation, style, lyrics, and various other aspects. After reading a bit of background information, I then found that The Fall had gone through about fifty different musicians in the course of it's existence, with only a handful being an active creative force for an album (or more) at any given time. Mark E. Smith has 'sacked' quite a number of them, being displeased with their attitude or performance, and has garnered the reputation of not being the easiest musician to work with. However, as the enigmatic songwriter and lead vocalist of this unusual group, he has remained from the band's formation in 1976 through to The Fall's most recent studio album release, 'Reformation Post TLC', in 2007! That's some serious dedication.

With such a long-spanning existence, there are loads of studio albums, live albums, compilations, etc...Where does one even begin? That's what I was wondering, until I stumbled upon this 2-CD compilation, '50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong'. The Fall is obscure to listeners of mainstream music, especially those in America. There have been instances when songs such as The Fall's covers of The Kinks' "Victoria" and R. Dean Taylor's "There's A Ghost in My House" climbed up fairly high on the music charts in the UK, as well as a scattered assortment of other singles. I find it unfortunate that The Fall's cover songs were generally better-received on the charts than the original material that The Fall released as singles...there's a lot of good stuff to be heard!

Speaking of songs released as singles, '50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong' includes a good many of them, as well as some songs that were album-exclusive. Due to the sheer number of songs that The Fall has released, it must have been an alarming task for whoever had to put this compilation together! However, I must say that this serves as a pretty good introduction for a new listener; it's priced rather nicely and includes 39 songs! My personal favorites are: "Totally Wired", "Cruiser's Creek", "U.S. 80's-90's", "Victoria", and "Free Range". Of course, fans will gripe about certain songs being left off of this compilation, but that's somewhat inevitable, due to the vast catalogue of Fall songs in existence. Overall, most of the 'key' songs are here, regardless of whether they are more memorable singles and/or favorites amongst fans.

The Fall has shown many different sides throughout the years, which is partly due to having such an array of different musicians involved. Not only that, but Mark E. Smith's lyrics and direction has grown and changed in so many different ways that I don't even know what genre I'd label The Fall as. As Mark E. Smith has said in past interviews, he is not concerned about any kind of 'music scene' that might be happening; he would rather be focusing on creating new music in his own way, regardless of whatever 'scene' might be popping up someplace. A given music scene might seem exciting for awhile...only to fade away and be replaced by another. But, here's The Fall! Despite the ever-changing roster of musicians, Mark E. Smith, as the talented, knowledgeable front-man, has definitely shown that he has a handle on what he's doing.

So, if you like this compilation, what next? The Fall's 'This Nation's Saving Grace', a favorite of Fall fans and critics alike, would be a good selection from the myriad of studio albums available. The album, as a whole, is quite interesting to listen to, and includes some rather good tracks that aren't on '50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong', such as "Bombast", "L.A.", and "My New House". For even more Fall, 'The Complete Peel Sessions', though expensive, is a comprehensive 6-CD box set spanning from 1978-2004. Regardless of what route you decide to take in listening to this band, you'll find that there's a lot of interesting music to explore, and...you probably won't hear any other band like The Fall.

5 out of 5 stars Tossed about like Johnson's current endowment.......2005-12-08

Was, is and will always be worthy of our attention. Amazon Rules suggest 75 to 300 words when submitting an assessment of a product but this collection is beyond description. I might ramble further about the ramifications of this product's impact on the early 21st century but I feel time is too valuable. You must obtain this collection immediately.

If you're not satisfied with this purchase, I suggest rebirth or a venture into advanced mechanization, exploitation or debauchery.

1 out of 5 stars A VIOLATION OF ALL WE HOLD SACRED.......2005-12-03

Why must Mark E. continue to torment us so? The only band to lay more "music" to vinyl than the Grateful Dead, and with no end in sight. No musician is more responsible for the ongoing violation of Mother Gaia and the mobilization of vast armies to secure resources to make more records: why do you think the UK is in Iraq? Enlightening us to The Monks is not enough! Any two-bit Mancunian ink-stained wretch could transmogrify rock n' roll long after Manchester United is forgotten. For Allah's sake, the dude doesn't play a guitar and is turning into a hunchback! When will the sonic rapture cease? And who decided to defile the memory of Nudie Cohen? Go ahead. Be a yob. Buy this and turn into some fey Brahmin who thinks Madonna isn't British. I'm warning YOU!!

5 out of 5 stars A great price for a lot of great tunes........2005-09-18

I remember a review of a new Fall release (by Fred Miller?) that
began with the sentance: "I always expect the next album by The Fall to suck, but it never does".
The Fall alwats skirts the
fringes of pop and appears ready to teeter, but they never do.
This compilation is the proof. The Fall always remain an interesting and rewarding listen.

Most of my Fall collection is on vinyl. I repurchased a few favorites on CD: Wonderful and Frightning World, Bend Sinister,
This Nation's Saving Grace. The 50,000 Fall Fans compilation
was a great chance for me to pick up digital copies of many other
favorite songs and hear a few tunes from recordings that are not
in my collection in any media.

This CD is a great deal. A double CD by a great group at a single CD price. If you are a newcomer to The Fall,
this is a good starting point. If you are already one of the 50,000 (like me) the price is a good insentive to
pick up the singles that are not already in your collection. Favorite track: 'Hey, Luciani'.

5 out of 5 stars Just plain great to listen to...........2006-09-27

Even with the year old classics like Mal's Song and the Ballad of Joss, which bring back great memories of Firefly and Serenity, I believe the power of this soundtrack lies in its instrumental tracks. I was moved to buy this after watching the documentary. But from folk to ballad to whimsical, this is a great soundtrack to listen to regardless if you want Firefly music or just good music.

5 out of 5 stars May be even better than the documentary.......2006-09-21

If you're a Firefly fan, you've no doubt heard some of these songs before. The Bedlam Bards' "Ballad of Joss" and Michelle Dockrey's "Mal's Song" have been making the rounds for over a year now, and several of the other artists have been performing at conventions around the country. But this CD collects all of your favorites and adds some new ones in, including some instrumental versions that are just beautiful.

It's not a sequel or a new season, but close your eyes and let this collection take you back to the 'verse.

Chuck Leavell admits to three passions: his family, his tree conservation, and his music. A bluesman to the core who's worked with the Allman Brothers Band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Gov't Mule, the Georgia-based piano player touches the hearts of listeners here with solo performances of mostly original material. The title song pleases with Leavell's improvisations on blues sequences, his references to the history of blues piano tied together with an impressive craftsmanship. Genre-bender "A Lotta Colada," which he originally wrote for his blues-rock-jazz group Sea Level, displays even more of his creative musical mind. Leavell's "Song for Amy" points to the sunny jazz piano of Vince Guaraldi, and his ardor for life comes across most effectively on his Crescent City-directed boogie takeoff on the gospel staple "Walk a Little Closer." --Frank-John Hadley

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Rich, Soulful, Crisp Piano Work.......2003-12-08

I recently heard Chuck Levell on Piano Jazz with Marion McPartland and he played some of the best piano blues and standards I have heard in a long time. It was a wonderful show so I thought I 'd explore his solo recordings. I bought and love this album. It is all instrumental which in a way is too bad because Chuck has a nice singing voice. A one star hit from me due to the length. Many releases these days are similarly scant, but at only 37 minutes I had a need for more when it ended after a sweet rendition of "Georgia On My Mind." The music that is there is wonderful.

4 out of 5 stars Just 88 keys, but a lot of soul.........2002-09-05

According to Chuck's liner notes, Forever Blue's opening title track was a quick improvisation he dashed off while the engineer was setting up to record. It's a simple basic blues tune, but brightly performed with some spirited embellishments and a light overall playfulness. This sets the tone for the rest of the record nicely; it's not groundbreaking, but it doesn't try to be anything other than 37 minutes of fun ivory-tickling. Never mind the grim bleakness of the cover, it's quite a cheerful little gem. We've got some upbeat boogie ("Walk a Little Closer"), some Southern gospel ("Higher Ground"), and a few beautiful meditative moments made for quiet reflection. And for mood-lifting sunniness, the joyous "A Lotta Colada" stands out as the brightest offering here. As his history (Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones) attests, Chuck's musical personality is permanently tied to the blues, but the blues aren't always meant to be sad. This shows the joyful side of the coin, and it's one of the nicest quaint treasures I've discovered in a good long time. I'll be getting some mileage out of this.

5 out of 5 stars If you like piano, you will LOVE this CD!.......2002-07-25

When you hear this album you will have a hard time beliving this is solo piano. It is not what you might expect. Not rock based but blues, jazz and N'orleans styles. It is more than the hard piano rifts from Sea Level and Gov't mule. Totally entertaining! So enjoyable you'll want to go out and "spread the word". Chuck is a master and I hope he does more solo work.

5 out of 5 stars Best solo piano recording in ages.......2001-08-23

What a refreshing thing for the ears! Leavell has put together a diverse and satisfying set of tunes that gets better with every listening. The styles range from melodic to latin to boogie, all with a thread of the blues (thus the title). This is a classic, and if it doesn't get a grammy, there is no justice! Buy more than one copy! CAL

5 out of 5 stars Solo Piano that touches the soul.......2001-07-10

Chuck Leavell is a superstar Rock and Roll pianist, his work has been heard shining through on albums and tours by the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Gov't Mule, and tons of other superstars. He steps out with this release on his own, with only his piano to express the deep soul that has enhanced the music of so many high profile bands.

This CD is a must have for fans of Rock and Roll, Jazz, R&B, and soul.. I recommend it 100%.
